I have a 2019 Elite with a P0498 cvs circuit low code. I traced it to an open wire on that circuit as there is no continuity between the PCM 50-pin connector Pin 29 and the cvs connector red wire pin 2 I believe. Connector views, color and location and harness routing are hard to come by on Alldata for Honda. It also has a lazy throttle pedal for the first 20% and then it picks up rapidly. At 138,000 miles I had a light come on saying “emission control systems problem”. The light goes on an off. It went off as I pulled into the dealer. They just to me it could be loose gas cap. It came on again, and it took to autozone to scan it. The code received was P0420. I had oxygen sensors replaced and so far that hasn’t fixed the problem. so I have it scanned at Oreilly . It read the most likely solution was to replace catalytic converters and exhaust manifold gasket. Went to autozone and it read to replace fuel injector and intake manifold gasket. Im still working through it. and will go Back to the dealership. I did everything on time maintenance wise that was requested and was not expecting to have this type issue only one month before paying off the automobile. Any suggestions?
It’s a catalytic converter and it might be covered up to 150k I believe, don’t quote me on that but I believe you should be covered. If they say it’s not covered ask them to see the warranty parts inquiry with the car part number saying it’s not.

I have the same issue. I just bought a used 2019 honda oddyssey from a certified dealer (vern eide honda sioux city, iowa) and the first day i got the car home the check emission system light came on. I live 1 hour away so i had to drive and take it to the shop and they said there was a small leak in the lines. They fixed it for free and i was fine with it. Brought the car home and drove it for 4 days. The check emission system light came on again. Contacted them and they said for me to bring it back. I brought the car back to them again. This time they said the car charcoal canister needs to be replaced so they replaced it after i waited 7 days before i got the car back. Drove the car home and in 3 days the light came back on again. Called them again telling them how frustrated i am with the car. They apologized and told me to bring it back again. I brought it back and thia time they said the fuel injectors was pumpimg too much fuel and needed to be replaced. I told them thats fine but you guys need to find out why there ia so much issues and so much leaks with the car. They said it wont happen again. This time i waited 3 weeks before i got the car back. Note: At this point the dealership has had and seen/test drive the car longer than i have all together while owning it. After the 3 weeks i drove the car for 6 days, almost 1 full week. Guess what? Check emission system light is on again. Contacted the dealership sales manager and he said he is sorry what is going on and that he will contact me back asap. 3 days passed and i havent heard a word from the sales manager. I was getting really irritated, pissed off and frustrated with the car so i decided to drive there and talk to the sales managers myself. When i got there i felt like the sales managers and consultants didnt want to help me at all. The sales manager finally came and try to kiss ass to me saying he is sorry and what can he do to help. I told him i want a new car or my money back. He said gice him 1 more chance to fix it. This time itll be good as new and promised me no more leaks and check emission light. I told him i will give him another chance to fix it and if he doesnt fix it i want a refund or a new car or my legal team will be in contact with them. They had the car for a total of 10 days. Claimed they fixes everything. Picked up the car from them and drove it for 6 days again. Guess what. Check emission light comes on again. This time i drove straight to them and demanded a new car or my money back. At this moment im still waiting for another van because they arr currently out. I just thought id shared with everyone about my bad bad experience. Looking around to see if people.had the same issue as i did. For some reason im reading from the 40k - 80 k milage on these cars then the check emission light comes on for a leak, co2 sensor, canister, gas cap, fuel ejectors and much more. Idk why these cars has so much issues with this but it really frustrate me. I lost about $350 on gas money driving 1 hour each time just for them to fix it. Each time i went i had to drive 2 cars. Is it normal for alignment to go out on a 3-4 month old van 2023? 3 of our 4 tires failed for alignment. At Honda they told us that’s normal. Also our odyssey automatically switches to manual shift while driving down the road, is that normal?
The only time I've experienced it switching modes is if I accidentally touch/tap one of the paddles behind the wheel. It seems Honda automatically switches to Sport mode when you touch a paddle, not sure I agree with that implementation but that's how our 2024 works.
As usual very informative video. Also, you mention that brakes are fading faster than they should. Is that only related to rotors or pads to? I have a 2021 Ridgeline with 26k miles and I’m experiencing that. Thank you
I am having the same issue. I had an alignment done. All of the lights were still on. A month later I hit a curb and had to get a new tire and found out. All of my tires were ruined, except for one had all of the tires replace, but the lights are still on. Do you think another alignment we will fix the problem. And where are you located so I can just come to you?
Just bought a 2023 and I’m happy that your conclusion is that you either get a good one or can get a buggy one. So far almost 3,000 miles in. Thanks for reassuring about VCM not being bad on these. Are the valves on these ones prone to gunking up thanks to DI?
@@BCautosutions Thanks you! Regarding DI I was dreading that. Anything I should be doing to mitigate it? I’ve read using top tier fuels, making sure the oil is fresh and making sure we rev her out when possible are things that will help the valves from getting too gross, any truth to those tips?
@@CrunchyBlack_386 Yep, it was our first choice, put a deposit and waited 1-3 months for any news, then they told us it would be another 3 months. Waited that and went to see the Odyssey. There is something happening with these (I have one). We’ve been having a battery drain issue that’s been happening apparently something either stays on or turns on randomly like a ac fan or something that is causing the battery to drain sporadically. We will go for months no problem and then it will do it again. This problem is happening to others because im seeing people on here and dif problems trying to find a fix. We are having this problem currently. I just came back from jumping it for my wife it wouldn’t start after her work shift. Very very annoying considering how much we’re paying for this vehicle. Can't wait for the 6th gen. Things I hope to see are - climate controls decoupled from infotainment and all hard buttons, like the new Pilot - ceiling vents for 2nd and 3rd row, like the 4th gen - removable front center storage that can make a walkway from the 1st row to 2nd row, like the 4th gen - extra compartment at the bottom of the center console, where the "cool box" was on the 4th gen - passenger seat shelf like on the new Pilot
@@BCautosutions Hopefully Honda understands that the sales dip in 2022 were due to supply chain issues. 6th gen Odyssey shouldn't be too hard. Odyssey has always had the same powertrain as Pilot. Interior wise, what they should do is carry over the Pilot interior, but change what's below the Climate buttons so that a walkway from 1st row to 2nd can open up if the center console is removed.

The only Honda has proper brakes are the Civic Type R using Brembo brakes system
I agree on the civic type R brakes although vcm and oil consumption haven’t been an issue on the earth dreams engines. Even before that it’s typically linked to infrequent oil changes. Hondas maintenance algorithm is sub par to say the least.

It’s always a controversial topic. Also - would you always disable the start stop? (I know there’s bypasses for that too, voiding warranty aside) Thank you for the rundown as always. There’s always more room for Honda content on UA-cam.
So yeah the j35/10 at combo works well. We have 2-3 nearing 200k on original powertrain so that’s reassuring. I would stay away from the muzzler, we haven’t had any oil consumption issues or spark plugs fouling with the earth dreams engines thus far. I absolutely can’t stand the auto start/stop and would absolutely bypass it. Appreciate you watching!
the new DHOC in the pilot is the proper way to haul these heavy van unless Honda makes changes or else when VCM gets old they cause nightmare of burning oil and the shake will pre mature wear on engine mount on the passenger side
@@TranTek im a firm believer that oil consumption is directly related to Hondas terrible maintenance algorithm and it’s extra long oil change intervals. Anyone who has done 3-5k oil changes never seem to have any consumption issues.

Bad battery less than a year old did same to my truck about a little more than year ago too.

What about the rear window molding rubber seal failure? I’ve got 40k on my 2022 and it’s falling apart.
@@kevinmiller83 could be but not a common issue as far as I’m concerned
2019 honda odyssey touring, I had all the recalls done, the problem was the technicians putting it back together, they broke parts and windows don't seal like it supposed to,tucked it back many times and they never fixes it, dealership changed ownership, never when back for anything else. Honda didn't do crap about it. The rear window rubber seal is falling apart and honda have don't crap about it eather
That’s unfortunate, some techs and dealers don’t have any pride unfortunately.

I own a brand new 2023 Honda odyssey in Vancouver. After two weeks of delivery we start hearing “clicking” sound underneath the dashboard at driver side. There’s a forum at Reddit suggesting bad cv axle or strut, but my dealership can’t pinpoint the issue and claiming the aftermarket floor mats, or plastic trims are making the noises. It happens in hot weather. No sound when temperature drops down below 18 degrees Celsius. Tried to tape all gaps of trims and tie up the cables around fuse box but still no luck. Anyone having the same issue here? I even switched back to oem mats too.
I’d take it back to them or bring it to a different dealer. Their approach is unacceptable.
Hi Eric I own a 2021 one, and we have the same problem you described. There is a recall on it for 2020-2022 for the electric part auto idle stop. Took it to Honda for a recall and the noise is worse coming from the dashboard. Honda says that we need a compatible battery from them to fix this recall problem. My lease will end in 2 months and Honda will take the car back as it is. So, my wife and I are not sure if it is worth fixing it and keeping the van or getting rid of it at no cost at this point. I want to get in touch with you if possible. Thanks for sharing your story

The most important thing is the time wasted out of my life just for this bs. I had to call in 2x at work and ask.for days off just to deal.with this issue. I really hope honda would fifure this out because a lot of people are having the same issue.
I had that same message across my screen emissions system problem with the check engine light on. Dos you notice you gas milage was horrible and the green economy light wouldn't come on your dash anymore it was always white. It turned out it was my purge valve.
my car is working good and suddenly after I drive all my power was out. after I jump with my friend car, it is working .no power and I can,t trun on my engine too.
sounds like a loose connection somewhere possibly
Is it normal for alignment to go out on a 3-4 month old van 2023? 3 of our 4 tires failed for alignment. At Honda they told us that’s normal. Also our odyssey automatically switches to manual shift while driving down the road, is that normal?
Tire wear is dependent on driving style and roads driven on with pot holes and stuff. It should not be switching modes tho
The only time I've experienced it switching modes is if I accidentally touch/tap one of the paddles behind the wheel. It seems Honda automatically switches to Sport mode when you touch a paddle, not sure I agree with that implementation but that's how our 2024 works.
When they replace the rotors do they just replace them with the same shitty OEM ones or have they fixed the core issue?

@@CrunchyBlack_386… I’m going to start researching the Toyota vans because Honda Odyssey has too many problems to deal with
There is something happening with these (I have one). THEY BOTH HAVE EQUALLY AS MANY PROBLEMS, THE PACIFICA MAYBE EVEN MORE.
front end sway bar gets replaced a lot
Really? Haven’t done too many in this model year, the older ones all day. Anyways, love the input from different areas 💪🏼
Can't wait for the 6th gen. Things I hope to see are
- climate controls decoupled from infotainment and all hard buttons, like the new Pilot
- ceiling vents for 2nd and 3rd row, like the 4th gen
- removable front center storage that can make a walkway from the 1st row to 2nd row, like the 4th gen
- extra compartment at the bottom of the center console, where the "cool box" was on the 4th gen
- passenger seat shelf like on the new Pilot
One could always hope, although if sales keep declining, might not be another generation.
@@Blank00 considering Honda loves the new design language that it’s in basically the whole lineup, I would think that would carry over into the new odyssey as well. Only time will tell. 👍🏻
Brakes had been known issue since early Odyssey, Honda brakes over all under design
the door latch tends to lead to parasitic drain
Those VCM eventually cost burning oil big time, i had to disable them using resistor dial
this also leads to engine mount broke
i learn about these after years of trying to figure out why many had this issue
you can google them.

So yeah the j35/10 at combo works well. We have 2-3 nearing 200k on original powertrain so that’s reassuring.
I would stay away from the muzzler, we haven’t had any oil consumption issues or spark plugs fouling with the earth dreams engines thus far.
