The smell was brine shrimp drying in the sun. The more takes they took, the worse the smell got because of the heat. One of the last shots, Will had had about enough and broke character and screamed "What is that smell"???. Made it in the movie.

This movie brings back memories. I was working at a theater which had just expanded from 8 to 20 screens by building on 12 new ones, so it was the biggest in the south east.
We just dealt with surges for The Craft, Mission Impossible, Twister, and even The Arrival drew crowds.
I had to put together 6 copies if this movie (you would stitch together the 5-8 reels that made a movie back then, before digital). Took me hours.
Then we would run one movie through a projector and instead of wrapping up at the end we would have it strung across the room to go through a second projector so we could double the views for the same film rental cost from the distributor.
In all it was showing on 12 of the 20 screens we had. Yet it was so crazy it was still selling out all day, for days. Simply insane.
From my time at the theater, with movies like this along with the opening weekend of Jurassic Park, The Lion King, and several others i look back and think: "damn the 90s had some popular cinema.
And yes, I am old AF (which i hear means "and friendly" but i suspect i am being played with that definition)

So I’m still at the beginning of this video but holy shit you gotta react to Men In Black. I think it’s Will Smith at his absolute best, and it’s like a perfect movie. The performances, the editing, the pacing, the jokes. the music. Everything came together for that movie. The second one isn’t that great but there’s some good stuff that carries over from the first one. The third one is legit good somehow, way better than it has any right to be like 18 years after the original with the same cast. The brand new one is dull as fuck, don’t bother.

This movie put Will Smith on the map as a major movie star. Before Independence Day, he was best known for being on The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. But when Independence Day hit, Will was coming out with a big movie like every year. He was even approached to play Neo in The Matrix, but turned it down because he didn't understand the script.
And save yourself the trouble and skip Independence Day: Resurgence. Will Smith isn't in it, and it's trash.

For anyone familiar with the previous movie from the same director (Roland Emmerich) which was "Stargate", the novelization of Independence Day mentions that the team at Area 51 had previously tried to contact a Dr Daniel Jackson for help translating the alien language, but they were unable to find him. This won't mean much unless you've seen Stargate, so... see Stargate. There's a movie, and then 15 amazing seasons of TV and two more movies down that rabbit hole.

Speaking of UFO's I saw some a couple of times. Both times they looked like moving stars. Not airplanes, not fireflies, not comets, stars. First time I was out with my brother walking his dog around 11pm, stargazing a bit and shooting the breeze and I kept checking out this one patch of sky since it was a clear night and no light pollution so you could see all the stars in the sky. There was a triangle pattern of three stars in one spot.
After about twenty or thirty minutes an airplane came from the north west-ish part of the sky. Had the blinking lights and all, probably a passenger plane heading to the airport about forty miles away. When the plane passed under the triangle shape the bottom star in the pattern suddenly started moving and following the plane. Kept at a steady speed and just followed the plane across the sky and disappeared over the tree line toward the airport. It was weird man, like a giant invisible hand just started moving the star across the sky like a refrigerator magnet across it's surface.
Last year I saw similar ones, two this time flying across the sky together. One was going straight and another did some maneuvers behind it before catching up and following it in a straight line. Both times they looked just like stars. Weirdest damn thing I ever saw.

They said the mothership has a diameter of ~550km...(a bit less than the size of Texas)
So, let's just say our heros were locked in the middle of the ship. After dropping the nuke, they had 30 secs to get out of there, so that's 275km in 30secs...that means they were cruising at minimum 33.000km/h. And let's not even mention one nuke flattening all of Texas.

We haven't been back because it's super expensive and we decide what money gets spent on and we decided it wasn't worth it anymore. I say we meaning voters.

Jeff Goldblum makes any movie better. I recommend, Earth Girls Are Easy (1988).
I thought I Am Legend was bad, Independence Day very entertaining, the original Star Wars is a classic. I thoroughly enjoyed the Men In Black movies, but the best SiFi outer space movies are Alien, and Aliens. Some excellent movies about space/space race that are based on real events are, October Sky (1999), The Right Stuff (1983), Hidden Figures (2016), Apollo 13, (1995). Fictional fun was Space Cowboys (2000), and favorite space fantasy movies, Contact (1987), Moon (2009), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 (2017).

I totally forgot about "The Pursuit of Happyness." If you ever get a chance to watch it, watch it; even if you never get polls high enough. I don't think as many people are aware of it as other fictional stories. Smith is a good actor and conveys the incredibly tough time Chris Gardner had, not only in making it into a financial firm, but in weathering a tempestuous relationship, trying to take care of his boy, and being broke. I've also always found Jaden Smith a natural. The difference between this movie and all the others you mentioned was that this is a true story. Chris Gardner busted his ass and did more in a few years than most people do their entire lives. He's one of my heroes and I cried all the way through this movie. He never wanted anything handed to him and he didn't feel entitled to it; he just kicked a**. I admire him so much I can't express it. I challenge you to watch it without crying. Incredible man.

The original cut for Russel was him flying in with his crop plan and a missile cause they wouldn't let him fly, that's why they were all like who is that guy and ID yourself and i guess why they had to make it seem like it was just jammed

A bunch of my family and I watched ID4 on opening day July 3rd on LSD HAHAHAHA and it blew us away,The excitement in the theater was like nothing I have seen since the original Star Wars 1977 release. This is by Far my Favorite Alien Invasion Movie to this day, the sequel broke my heart it was so bad....Here is to hoping they move forward with the planned ID4 TV series that will pretend the sequel never happened.

The reason we've never been back to the moon
is because we were never supposed to be there in the first place.
There WAS most likely craft and bodies at Area 51, but after the release of the information that the base and facility exists, it's most likely that they were moved to another unknown and undisclosed facility, as well as any other otherworldly anomalies, like the SCP Foundation (if it indeed exists) for example.
There are other worlds nearby (in a cosmic sense) that COULD theoretically support life, possibly intelligent life.
And it's more than likely one of these probable civilizations currently watching over us.
What for, we may never know...

The fire would not have gone to that room. It generally goes in the direction of least resistance. They still would die, there would be no oxygen left after such fireball for a woman a kid and a dog. They literally would have better chances if the dog would not make it but they would suffocate anyway.

As you look up stories of parents lifting up care because their kids get stuck under them, scientists have no idea why it happens, probably increased amount of adrenaline but it’s very much an instinct

Adrenaline is a big part of it, I read about this guy who got stuck under a Boulder and he had a surge of adrenaline that gave him the strength to lift it off himself His arms were fractured from it but he got it off him and lived.

The movie is silly, illogical, has loads of cheese and unlikely stuff happen and I love it. :) The effects are bloody impressive and there's a bunch of great actors in it. It's not even a guilty pleasure for me, just a pleasure, even knowing all the faults. :)
