I got a time travel movie for you guys to react to. It's one of my favorites. The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz.
In 1990, 32 years ago, we thought that humans might possibly be on Mars by now. After all, 32 years is further than the Moon landing (1969) was from the first jet aircraft. At the very least, Moon colonies seemed totally realistic. It's kind of disappointing that we haven't even been back to the Moon in 32 years!
I went to High School with Debbie Carrington (Thumbelina, the little person in the Last Resort bar). She was big into acting back then, played in several plays in school and was great at it back then. When she was going to UC Davis, she got her first semi big role in Under the Rainbow, kind of a B movie with many little people cast in it...making her one of the crowd. I remember hearing through the grapevine that she landed the role in this movie, so a group of us all went to see it in the theater. When she came on screen, we all cheered for her, "Woo hoo, Debbie!" and all that. The other people in the theater thought we were nanners, but we were just stoked seeing our friend in the movie and that she landed such a role in a main stream movie. She was always really cool and a great friend, I was sad to hear through a mutual friend that she had passed away in 2018.
The original story was written by Phillip K. Dick. If you look up that name you will be amazed at all the films that are based on his works! Like Blade Runner and Minority Report and The Adjustment Bureau and much more. Also I also played the version of Doom that looked like this! Yeah I thought the same when I was playing it. Just like Total Recall. Great reaction guys. Y'all be safe.
I remember when this came out, it was hugh! Love this classic. Back in the day you had tv programs about movies that I used to watch with behind the scenes/making ofs, also for music video's. Miss those days. Thank you guys for this reaction
The mental twisting in this movie is a hallmark of Philip K. Dick. Julien would really like another movie based on a PKD book called "A Scanner Darkly" starring Keanu Reeves and a host of other super stars. You guys will definitely be questioning things in that one. In a similar vein is the movie "Southland Tales" starring The Rock in a role that is very different for him. That movie has many nods to PKD and is a brain twister, too. Critics hated it as it confused them but it is a wild ride.
Somehow my parents dropped me off at the theater to see this alone when I was only ten. It started my crush on Sharon Stone, and it's still one of my favorite movies of all time.
Verhoeven himself said he left the ending ambiguous but that he personally leaned towards it being a memory, blue skies on Mars, and the fact that the movie faded to white instead of black thus possibly meaning that he was lobotomized. Yet convincing arguments have been made that it truly did happen so it's all up to personal interpretation.
@@samuraiwarriorsunite there’s also the fact the recall guy predicts exactly everything that will happen if Quaid shoots him, including right up to the ending with the lobotomy. In the dvd commentary, Verhoeven said it was actually a memory and that’s the way he shot it with clear hints that it was. And as you said when the memory is complete (saving mars, getting the girl) the white at the end indicates he is being lobotomised. The recall lilt plays at the end as well. Even so, he intentionally left it ambiguous for the viewer. In the same DVD commentary Arnold said it was not a memory and was all real. One of my all time favourite movies, and the remake had great effects but is unfortunately forgettable. It was great watching these guys react to it.
I lean towards the whole thing being the Total Recall program called Blue Sky. If it was real, why would he be able to contact a woman who was on the menu he chose from? On the other hand, his dreams about Mars, prior to going for the memory implant suggest it could be real but I don't think so
It's open to interpretation. On the menu there was some abstract woman. He gave description from his not completely erased memory (brunette, athletic built), and he saw her face as he was falling to drug-induced sleep. The monitor didn't really show Melina. Or did it?
Thank you, gentlemen. I had a tough day at work. Watching your faces and corny comments while sipping an adult beverage really made my night. Julian's face during the bug removal scene had me laughing out loud.
Guys I know that old man knows this movie with Michael Ironside (Bad guy) in the classic: 1981's Scanners. For an older movie, this movie is MIND-BLOWN!
@@iKvetch558 yeah I know but despite it taking swerves from the book it's still a great movie. Hey it would be a bland old world if we all liked the same thing, or would it lol
Welcome to Philip K Dick stories… he generally had a theme for questioning what reality is. Blade Runner, A Scanner Darkly, Next, Paycheck, Minority Report, The Adjustment Bureau, Screamers, and Imposter are all based on his stories.
Remember seeing this when it came out. So bad it's good (or so good it's bad). Mystery Science fodder for sure. But...gotta love Arnold! He said he'd be back and he wasn't kidding. ✌
Ooof, go figure the guy who was repulsed by a woman kissing a bald guy would have no sympathy for a mutant, let alone a mutant child. >.> Great movie though, so much evidence that it really is all in his head but never lands what is real and what isn't.
Many other movies/media/videogames take a lot of inspiration by multiple elements of this movie (like many other 80/90 cult movies). And btw, this movie is cyberpunk af.
When this came out the press went nuts about the violence. Saw it at the theater. Gonna Watch “Starship Troopers?” (Verhoven’s third sci-fi movie.) This and “Robocop” were both remade and both sucked.

This might be the best film ever. Aliens The Matrix and Blade Runner are up there too. And the mystery of what tit was fake will be pondered for generations . I notice that in total recall the red pill is spat out but in the Matrix the red pill is swallowed.
This is a great movie. The remake was also good I like that one too. That had more of a cyberpunk feel about it because remember the Cyberpunk ethos, High tech and low life. And if you've any of The Madqueen Cyberpunk Lore videos she would put in commercials that mixed elements from a lot of other movies of the genre. There is one more in the Verhooven trifecta called Starship Troopers. I almost forgot the face and voice of the Johnny Cab should be familiar if you are fans of Star Trek Voyager. That was Robert Picardo the EMH the holographic doctor and Mr. Woolsy from the Stargate SG-1 franchise.
There's a little known TV series based on this that came out of Canada in the 90s and it's actually really freaking good. I recommend it. It really expands on the universe.
You're prejudiced. Just give it a try. I know at least one part-Canadian, part-German series that is freaking awesome, although sometimes just too weird. It's called Lexx.
I hate to ruin my guys day who made the crack about kissing the balding guy. Once I started shaving my head, I had a lot more women interested in me. The ladies can be fickle and you'd be surprised what they'll go for.
Julien wS just being silly. I also have gone bald before and just wore a goatee. Gave me a bad boy image that had a positive affect on the ladies. Though that was before I was married. I tried it again during my marriage and both my wife and daughters hated it. Go figure. 😊

A great combination of naval warfare and time travel.
Not enough people know about this film which I find strange considering it's got Kirk Douglas in it.
I saw it on VHS in the mid 80s. Loved it.
This movie was loosely inspired by The Philadelphia Experiment involving the USS Eldridge.
I'd love to see this one remade

Because there isn't a moon to go to
Ikr. I want to visit Mars and visit that bar Quaid went to.
Best scene in this movie is that little person woman standing on the bar shooting that automatic machine gun!!!

The x-ray security scanner shots are the only CG VFX in the movie.

Dictionary definition of Meat shield: Total Recall escalator scene.
I didn’t start watching yet and I already know Julien’s favorite part
You know him well! :-)
When he said, Tits? I had to say at-least 3 from one scene...
Johnny Cab blew up because of the lithium battery. They do that.

Just before the credits roll the screen smashes black. Quaid got what he paid for.
Going through your backlog and didn't realize you wacthed this one on camera!

Love this movie with Arnold better than the remake. To think he went actor to politics.

a classic with an insanely weak remake. arnold as the bad boy Houser? i love that moment. and michael ironside is just great.

The movies that Arnold did are just act flicks for buck sake. Sylvester's films, on the other hand, had an underlying point/message.
For example, take Last action hero. It is literally a parody of every action movie cliche.
