This movie is great. I thought you were dead is one of the best running jokes in cinema. Just because this movie is not a comedy but it adds a touch of levity. It also makes you wonder what he did in the past that made him so famous and why a rumor of his death was started. It serves to create some depth of the character without having to do any exposition at all.
@@RKnights someone probably is pitching a movie about young Snake Plitzkin that explains his eye, his nickname, etc. Like they did with Han Solo. I hope that never gets made
This movie absolutely inspired the Metal Gear series of games. “Kurt Russell's character, Snake Plissken, influenced the name of the original game's protagonist, Solid Snake. The name "Pliskin" is later used as an alias by Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2.” Great reaction.
That's was all I was thinking when I saw his character. Then when he said call me Snake, I was convinced that the game was influenced. Got me in the mood to play again
Harry Dean Stanton was the guy who played the character, "Brain", and who played in quite a lot of movies as a supporting actor but most notably noted in the original movie Alien, where he played one of the 2 maintenance crew. Harry Dean Stanton also played in the 1984 movie "Repo Man", not connected to any of the more recent Repo Men movies but still a great iconic film in it's own right which I highly recommend watching, staring Emilio Estevez. Another Kurt Russell film I highly recommend is "Soldier", which gets passed up a lot but still quite entertaining.
"We'd make one hell of a team, Snake!" "The name's Plissken!" Fun Fact: The opening narration, and the computer's voice in the first prison scene, were provided by an uncredited Jamie Lee Curtis. Location Location Fact: The night street scenes were filmed in East St. Louis, Illinois, across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri. East St. Louis is filled with old, run-down buildings, and entire neighborhoods burned out during a massive fire in 1976. Practical Effects Fact: The wire-frame computer graphics on the display screens in the glider were not computer-generated. Computers capable of 3-D wire-frame imaging were too expensive at the time. Special effects designers built a model of the city, painted it black, attached bright white tape to the model buildings in an orderly grid, and moved a camera through the model city.
This ranks up there as my number one personal favorite movie of all time! Snake was definitely the inspiration for Solid Snake. The creator of the MGS games, Hideo Kojima, was a huge fan of this movie and Snake’s character, as you can tell. I’m a sucker for the reluctantly heroic, anti-hero type characters. Snake’ is the G.O.A.T.!
The guy who played Brain was Harry Dean Stanton...who was in movies and TV starting back in the 1950s, and was active until his passing in 2017. You saw him in a small part in The Avengers...when Hulk crashed to earth and was found by that guy that said that funny thing to him. LOL You also may have seen him in the first Alien movie, or maybe in The Green Mile, and he was also in Red Dawn. ✌✌
@@davehoward22 Yeah...it is always hard to know which ones to list. I think I just named the ones that Stanton was in that these guys had posted a reaction on the channel...but it was a while ago. It would be terrific if the guys watched Cool Hand Luke and Kelley's Heroes...and of course, if they have not seen the Godfather movies, those too.💯
Fun fact: The female narrator at the beginning of movie is Jamie Lee Curtis. I remember seeing this in the theater; the whole crowd gasped at the 400% increase of crime line.
This is commonly accepted among fans of the series, but the thing is, it's never been confirmed by Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, or anyone involved with the movies. Until either Carpenter or Curtis addresses this rumor, it's difficult to confirm either way if her voice is heard in either movie, and it appears Kathleen Blancard really is the narrator heard in both. (yes I copied and pasted) :/
with his two movies carpenter created a universe of his own; a different story line, a very interesting one at that. i'm sorry they didn't make a third movie,to show us what happens to our little blue planet, after what snake did to it!But Kurt Russell is still alive, so there is hope!
I absolutely concur with this suggestion...Kurt Russel as Todd in Soldier is an underrated classic, IMHO. And you will see a few other faces you know in that one too. 💯💯
its a sidequel for the Bladerunner. Its same universeas you can see Todd's tattoo; Tannhäuser Gate which Roy Boy mentioned in his monologue and in piles you can see hover car wreck from Blade Runner. Just how much communication Russell does without words is amazing.
Love this movie and really enjoyed your reaction, Ray. You have to watch "The Thing" if you haven't seen it. They also worked together on "Big Trouble in Little China" which is also worth watching. Thanks Ray!
Big trouble in Little China is one of my all-time favorite films. I have the board game and I'm currently painting the miniatures. Just finished the three storms. I hope R Knights watches it.
Lee Van Cleef was in a few of Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns with Clint Eastwood. The woman in the diner was played by Season Hubley, Kurt Russell's wife at the time. An EFNY remake is listed on imdb, with very little info. Judging from what I read on the internet, it's still in the discussion stage, with Wyatt Russel, Kurt's son, mentioned as a possible Snake Plissken. There's also talk of John Carpenter doing a third film in the series called Escape From Earth, also with Wyatt possibly playing Snake. If you're interested in another great Kurt Russel film, I'd recommend Tombstone, one of the best westerns ever made. If you want to see a deleted scene that explains why Snake is sentenced to prison in NY: ua-cam.com/video/V7DxQYEl5oo/v-deo.html
Aw yeah!!! This is a truly iconic classic...I am kinda sorry Julien and the other guys are not watching it with you...or have they already seen it? Anyway, Kurt Russell is definitely one of the all time greats, at this point. Even if you do not think he is a terrific actor, when you look at the notable classic films he has been in and the iconic characters he has played, he definitely deserves his place among the greats. Snake Plissken in this and Escape from LA, Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China, Herb Brooks in Miracle, Jack O'Neil in Stargate, and Wyatt Earp in Tombstone are just a small slice of the films/characters that Kurt Russel has graced...and that does not really begin to cover the full list.✌✌💯💯
Thanks for that list. I've seen Tombstone at least 20 times. I've that movie. Most of the guys have jobs or are finishing college. We can only meet on Saturdays and even then it's not guaranteed. We need to make sure we have content on the channel to grow. My dream is to be able the have the guys quit and do this full time with me. That's the dream and until then we will do our best to react together. When I have to I will do my best on the solo reacts. I hope I did a good job. I also reacted to Stargate alone. Julien told me he is off this week so hopefully we can cover some more ground. 😊

As mentioned, a lot of this was shot in St Louis- a section of the city that had suffered a major fire s couple of years earlier. It was NOT a good place to be, unless you had a death wish Kurt Russell tells a story- the shooting locations had all kinds of cops & security - but one night he decided to walk the 2-3 blocks to where they were shooting the next scene. Not his smartest move ... After he went a block or so- he became aware that he was being followed - and no way to alert the crew that he was in trouble - he stopped - turned- and in character w full Plisken wardrobe and prop weapons - snarled "What do you want?" to the shadowy figures behind him. A couple of tense seconds later- "Nothing Man, we cool, we cool".... He walked the rest of the way without being bothered
I love Kurt Russell. Been watching him since he was a little kid in It Happened At The World's Fair where he kicks Elvis in the leg then Disney movies like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes as a teen.
On the ground always being wet, I think it's for lighting and depth. I've seen a few movie scenes being filmed and the thing that most caught my attention was how much lighting they use even for scenes that are considered dark. Light bounce is pretty useful. Plus reflections add 3d type of depth to a scene. Play a computer game with reflections off and then with reflections set to max and see the difference.
I think there was a point where the creator of Solid Sbake asked Carpenter for permission to use Snake's last name, because he had modeled the character after Pliskin.
Island penal colonies, where prisoners roamed around free, was a popular idea back when executing people for every minor offense started to become taboo. Interesting that they're remaking this. If it were me I'd do a soft reboot with new characters and new situation within the same setting. It could be set either before or after the original films. Hollywood isn't that original.
Figured I'd go with escape from New York next. Just finished a six pack of star Wars with a talky gamer girl😂I needed some male bonding. I'd like a big budget remake of this. The only thing I didn't like about this movie was that it looked cheap. But the logical flaw to this movie is that apparently the justice system gives you the very same punishment for petty theft that it does for r@pe and murder. That would create a perverse incentive for criminals to do their worst. They would reason that if they are going to prison for life anyway, then they might as well get their money's worth for it by being as bad as they possibly can.
This movie is great. I thought you were dead is one of the best running jokes in cinema. Just because this movie is not a comedy but it adds a touch of levity.
