"No more war movies!"
*movie starts*
The war between humans and machines...
Right?
Technically, it's not a war movie though. It references a war (in Sarah's future and Reece's past).... shows a few short scenes of it, but that's not the focus of the movie. Just backstory, really.
@@IggyStardust1967 While that may be true, it is still ironic considering the first minute of the movie is showing a war happening lol
i was expecting Jackass
😄True, but there's a big difference between realistic war movies and this.
Movie:shows a pipe bomb being made
George's dad: (completely casual) "Yeah, we used to make those as kids"
George: Wait-what? You made bombs?
George's dad: (still completely casual) "Sure, you can take saltpeter from ..."
🤣
We made black powder too in chemistry class back in '09.
As good as when doing Full Metal Jacket, "Ho Chi Min came to our village regularly..."
Wait, what?
Just keeping up the Chinese tradition of making your own fireworks for New Years ... and that's where black powder came from.
Well, to be fair, when you grow up around war and your family has been in military fight for generations it's not a weird thing to think kids learn these sort of things on a regular basis .
Btw, I know this comment is intended as a joke, I was just adding.
My dad made gunpowder as well here in the U.S. blew his eyebrows off once by doing it in the wrong order, and trying to get lumps out after everything was combined.
Loved George's dad's comment about myths, legends and sci-fi, they are indeed the same ideas, just told differently.
I was just thinking the same thing...
I wonder if it's because very often the people telling the myths and legends are trying to explain the world, and good sci-fi was described once as "taking a few steps forward and holding up a mirror"... So also showing the world we live in...
I am looking forward to seeing the T2 reaction...
D
@@df6957such a good comment! Reminds me also of the phrase about how "History often repeats itself". Usually futuristic tales take a lot from our past.
@@v.c1134
That's also true...
👍
Every culture has their myths and legends. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a beautiful example of a Chinese mythology. Same with Seven Samurai from Japan.
Old fairy tales got modernized - from Gnomes, Golems and Witches to Aliens, Robots and Mutants. Storytelling itself did not chang that much.
Just look at that famous story about the white knight, the black knight, the princess and the mage - just with light sabers and star destroyers.
oooh more videos with George's dad!! oh and I love when George speaks chinese...
I was just gonna say, i love hearing George speak Chinese. Its such a beautiful language to me that id love to try learning one day
@@system0fadowner251mandarin is said to be one of the easiest languages to learn. Srsly... look it up.
I think it becomes all the _more_ impressive when you consider the fact that Chinese is George's _native_ language and he learned English _second._
@@system0fadowner251 If you do start to learn Chinese, just know that they are speaking Cantonese, which is spoken in Hong Kong and the surrounding region. The main Chinese language is called Mandarin.
I second that lol
29:00 George's dad, "We used to make those when we were kids." _Wut?_
To quote Willow Rosenberg, "Well, we didn't have cable, so we had to make our own fun."
I'm glad I'm not the only one that immediately thought of that. Lol
@@GrumpyReacts Was my first thought as well :D
When I was in college studying chemistry in the mid 90s a copy of a certain cookbook did the rounds and there was a noticeable decrease in certain chemicals from the unlocked store cupboard. One kid nearly burnt his home down trying to make smoke bombs; no way you'd get away with just a quiet word from the Fire Brigade these days!
Well, these guys did invent fireworks.
@@chrism7395 Sounds like complete anarchy to me...
26:07 Not as catchy or unique as *_Terminator,_* but *_Future Warrior_* is actually pretty clever. It could refer to Sarah _becoming_ a warrior in the future, Kyle being a warrior _from_ the future, John being an iconic warrior _in_ the future, or the Terminator being the warrior _of_ the future.
Three things: One - very impressed with George's fluency in multiple languages. Two - I think it's great that George seems to have a good relationship with his Father. Three - love this movie!
Plot twist: George's father is ex special forces and he has to protect George and Simone from deadly danger.
one minute in and i'm obsessed with George's dad
Well, in the end, Sarah becomes the Terminator after going through hardships and triumphing over her enemy, so... he's not entirely wrong
It _is_ unusual to have a movie named after the _antagonist._
Went through hardships? Check. Achieved his goal? Oooh, SO close.
@@PerfeccionistoPerezoso78it's not really that unusual, particularly in horror, sci-fi, and fantasy movies.
@@JakkFrost1 True, it's not _unheard_ of, but I mean, _Jurassic Park_ was not named _Nedry._
I love George and Simone's (I hope that I spelled it right) reactions, but there is something really special about George and his dad watching movies together.
Very true.
Yess, I'd love to watch movies with my dad but he just watches sports, and even then he's with his phone all the time lol he's such a teenager😂💚
“Hope you guys like this video.” We love ANY videos you all do, but especially ones with your awesome dad. Had a very rough New Year so far (lost the my best friend of my life, my cat Lynx, but I know he’s still with me), but sending love and joy to you all, especially as a fellow software designer/dev industry person, but mostly as a human being. Thanks for the laughs and insights, as always, and tell your dad thank you as well! ❤️
Really good job translating this one George. It's fascinating to see what things your Dad picks up on and what relates to him. Great video.
I don't think George's limited explanations were all he had. Pretty sure they were watching it with Chinese subtitles. He looked like he was reading at times.
@@Mr.EkshinGeorge explicitly said they were watching with Chinese subtitles, while I believe Stephen was praising the quality of the translations of the father's thoughts into English for our benefit.
Love your dads perspectives on this and how he ties it to Chinese myth. Shows how human imagination has through lines in so many of our cultures
I particularly enjoy hearing the stories, myths, legends, and experiences your dad expresses throughout movies.
I also really enjoy the bluntness of things like "usually Simone does this, so pretend she's giving the intro". Top quality.
Making and editing a movie reaction for UA-cam is already a lot of work. So i just wanted to show some appreciation for the fact you had to add English subtitles to enable us (the viewers) to understand you and your Dad.
Loved your dads parallells between Terminator and chinese mythology. Great stuff 😁
George now has so many questions about his Dad's childhood bomb making days! Dad had a moment of reflection "maybe I shouldn't be talking about this!" next breath "I'd tie a knot with a fuse - one pull and it would go off!!" Brilliant anecdotal moment 😂👏
Not your dad casually dropping how to make explosives in the middle of the reaction! :P
Watched this on Patreon a bit ago - it was so damn awesome!! This here is by FAR my all time favorite movie! I love this one so much. George did an incredible job providing subtitles for their conversations. :)
Good to see your dad visiting again, George. Great job on editing while incorporating subtitles. Thanks.
This movie is so good - I have a vivid memory of watching it in the movie theater - terrifying!
Wait!!!!!! You don’t seem emotionally damaged!!!! He seems really nice and you both get along and are friendly and respect each other!!!!!😮😮😮😮😮💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I love when your dad comes on to review these movies. It's always so interesting and entertaining. Now that he has context to the film... I can't wait to see his reaction now that he know what's going on. Should be a fun time. We send your dad our best from the states!
Random old person comment: from 1983 to 1984, there was a TV show called "20 Minute Workout" (half exercise/half eye candy). The lead instructor was Bess Motta. Playing Ginger, Sarah's roommate, was to be her breakout acting gig.. she never broke out 🤪
I think I remember that TV show. The movie 48 Hours shows Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte looking into an apartment and the TV shows a scene of 20 Minute Workout. Eddie's character in prison for a few years says that TV certainly has changed, lol.
Shame, because she's got a great vibe in this. She's a fun character.
This was so much fun. You two have great banter. Your dad seems like a serious but good-hearted guy.
Heyyy thanks George and George's Dad cos not only is this a great reaction but it is helping my duolingo learning cos I've been learning Chinese for the past year so this will help thanks lads
I love these reactions with you and your father. I grew up very close to my father, especially in adulthood, and spent lots of time just the two of us watching movies together. I’d give anything to be able to sit and watch another movie with my dad like you are doing. The next time you get together to do a movie reaction, you should let him watch the original Gone In 60 Seconds. It’s the ultimate car chase movie and I bet he’d love it!
Thank you for sharing such a personal moment with everyone. Also a great idea because of George's dad saying he loves car chases in movies. Wish you and those close to you nothing but the best.
It's awesome you do reactions with your dad! Cherish the moments!
Every Cinebinge video is an instant click for me. But seeing a thumbnail with George’s dad is an even more exciting instant click.
George needs a stock clip of Simone annoying us for subs.
I really do enjoy these videos with your dad. It's interesting to learn a different perspective to movies I enjoy!
Interesting to see your dad bringing up Chinese mythology a lot, and even films. Maybe you can watch one of his favorites sometime?
That’s a great idea.
one day in 30 years this will be a treasure to George like you can't imagine. having videos and audios of loved ones is only roughly 50 years old, before that people would forget the subtle details of their parents or children.not anymore
@@nathantaylor1618 100% correct. Five years ago, I took video of my parents telling stories from their youth. Now Dad's gone and Mom's in a home with dementia, so I treasure those recordings.
@@footofjuniper8212 - I wish I had done that. I lost my mother last summer, and my father is fading mentally to where his memory is very compromised at this point. I really wish we'd made a lot more videos when he was younger. We have some from Christmases, etc... but none where he just sits and talks about things.
So true, I'm a musician that didn't meet his grandpas, but I had old cassettes with family recordings from them playing music and talking about it. I grew up listening to them so much that that's probably why I got into it
Yet people still claim that it's plot hole for Marty McFly's parents to not wonder why he looks a lot like their friend back in high school.
I grew up around a lot of people from Hong Kong, so hearing George speak Cantonese is comforting.
just came from Shanghai. What an experience! I understand the culture differences, yet thats whats cool about all this
Even though I don't understand any Cantonese except for a handful of words, I love the videos with your dad for hearing you two speak alone. I don't know what it is, but I just love the sound of it since I fist start watching Hong Kong movies. 😅
Thank you for this, George! I love it when your Dad joins you for movie reactions! His memories and insights are wonderful. Such a smart man. Obviously, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! 💜
Your dad loves car chases...
BABY DRIVER, man.
He'll love it.
REALLY interesting hearing your dad comparing stories from Chinese mythology with 20th/21st century western Sci-Fi. It shows how universal stories of good and evil are across cultures.
Simone's great, but maybe invite your dad to do a few more reactions 😁
Part of why I like reaction videos so much is because I get to see how people with different backgrounds, cultures, and ages, view the movies and shows I love. Thanks so much for this great reaction! Loved it!
I love the videos with your dad, it's great to see the generations enjoy things together. My own kids don't watch movies with me much.
Man, that is a shame. I wish I could watch a movie with my dad and I am 28.
Getting perspective from your pops is a highlight in my life. His experiences growing up in China when he did almost floor me as compared to my childhood...so it is nice to hear his story and get some insight into his perspective of the world. I cannot wait for T2 and other future movies with your pops!
I can't wait to see your dad's reaction to T2!!
Would love for your dad to show us one of his favorite Chinese movies
These videos with your dad are always a joy. And im on a huge Terminator kick right now, so the timing could not be more perfect. My dad loved these movies
I F***ing love your dad, he is the man!!!
Brad Fiedel's Terminator theme is still one of my all time fave's. It sets the tone for this movie so perfectly, and elevates it way beyond the low-budget guerilla filmmaking movie it is. (along with all the other talent on display obviously)
George, your father mentioning that China has a lot of movies about mysticism made me think he'd probably like 1994's The Crow. If he hasn't seen it yet, it would be worth a watch and seeing his commentary.
Awesome video George. It's great to see your dad again. Looking forward to more with him. Lots of love my friend.
Excellent job cropping out the Chinese subtitles and recentering the film. Then manually adding English subtitles. You put a lot of work into this to share it with us.
It was great watching a father-Son reaction video. You and your dad made the video heartwarming and entertaining.
Eeeyyyyy, George's dad!!
Yeah, I don't want to show a war vet a war movie so I'll show him an apocalypse film about the end of humanity!
Show your dad Paddington or Amelie or something, you monster!!
🤣❤
Always love videos with your dad. He seems really cool and love hearing his insights and perspectives. Glad you have such a good relationship with him.
I also made gunpowder as a kid - with ingredients from a Chemistry set. It's great when you watch with your Dad.
Always a treat to see this legend come back.
I love how your Dad spotted the product placement for Nike :)
George's wonderful dad summing up Terminator's 2nd violent scene "Fierce & Malevolent" that sums it up yep!
Fantastic reaction, thanks so much!
Great to see your dad again 👍🏻
Watching Terminator with great commentary in Cantonese was the new year's gift I didn't know I wanted.
I like how during the intro & outro, your dad's just like:
_"Oh he's speaking English again, this bit's not for me"_ 😁
I would happily watch all of your reactions in Chinese with subtitles. It’s very pleasant to listen to
I learned so much practical Chinese here!
If I ever go to China, I can walk around just saying "his brain is crushed". :)
When you learn George's dad knows how to hotwire cars and make explosives.
What a legend!
“I think this movie is special.”
- George
My good sir…you are 100% right. This movie IS special. My personal favorite of the series.
❤🥲
I dropped all my plans for the night to watch you guys do T1 and T2.
"Machines need love too" (Sarah's answering machine recording) is a line I've never seen used or even referenced in a reaction before - in fact, I had completely forgotten that line was in the movie! 🤯
"I just love car chase scenes. They're my favorite"
me: "so he's gonna love Terminator 2"
"yeah, you're gonna love Terminator 2"
😆
Its great to see your dad back.
Good seeing You with Your Dad !
If your dad loves car chases, you should show him The Blues Brothers.
I love these videos with you and your father, the more the better.
Wow you are so lucky to sit down and watch these with him!
Love having your dad back. Thanks for sharing him with all of us. (and that biscuit looked really good)
my dad sadly passed away few years ago due to illness, so it's heart warming to see you sharing some time with yours watching movies.
Thank you for sharing this. I like the normal reactions but the ones with your dad always feel special.
I absolutely loved your dad's interpretation of the title. Now I want that movie actually made as a non-canon spinoff. Maybe they could do it in Japan as an anime like Terminator Zero.
I love these videos with your pops George. I have to know more about this "Black Tiger Steals the Heart" move in Chinese martial arts. Thanks for all the work editing. 🙂
"Fierce and malevolent".
Your dad's description of a Terminator is perhaps the best ever.
I still love this soundtrack. Dark, haunting late-night feel. Like some Carpenter films.
Always excited to see a new video with George and his dad.
Was so cool hearing how he made gunpowder as a kid. Really enjoyed watching this movie with the both of you.
I'm so used to hearing George speaking English, so it's a treat to hear him speaking his native tongue with his dad!
It’s really nice to see you involve your dad in on your UA-cam success. I enjoyed it very much and hope to see more even after Terminator 2!
I really think you need to watch a movie with your dad which is a comedy, something like Blazing Saddles or Spaceballs. I would love to know his take on American Comedy❤
Always love your reactions with Dad. Reminds me when my Dad would introduce me to the movies he loved. Looking forward to T2.
i love the fact that your dad is always making reference to mythology. showing us that all stories are not original if we study history. 🥰❤
Its always a treat to have your dad on the channel, reacting to films he hasn't seen.
George, thanks for sharing this wholesome reaction with us.
Your dad's badass stories about the dangerous things kids crafted as entertainment back in the day reminded me of the stories my father used to tell me.
They used to craft "tira palillos": some sort of slingshots that shot wooden sticks. They were basically small crossbows, and they used them to shoot at each other as a game. Nerf was not a thing back then, lol.
Man, I must confess I shed some tears watching this reaction, since your father's comments made me miss my own father, who passed away almost 9 years ago. We used to watch sci-fi and war movies together and he would share some wisdom with me through his remarks.
Best wishes to you, your dad and everyone who reads this comment.
Greetings from México!
GEORGE, I love your dad's Chinese perspective on stories 😮especially this one!! And I love that he loves car chases!!!❤❤
You and your dad. That's so awesome 💙💙💙
Look out Simone!
That was really entertaining.
You might even go as far as to say John actually gave Reece the picture of Sarah so Reece would fall in love with her or at least the idea of her long before even sending him on the mission insuring he'd produce John and eventually give his life for Sarah
Cantonese is such a beautiful language. Looking forward to more of your dad watching non-war movies.
Maybe your dad would like Arrival? From a Chinese author, a Chinese General helps save the day after initially freaking out over the alien arrival on earth. There is some untranslated Mandarin “In war there is no winning, only widows”.
😊Happy new year and great to see your dad again. and yeah veterans and war movies can be emotional for them.
I saw this when I was like 9 or 10. I remember they (Mom, Dad and older brother) was watching this on VHS, I was peaking out of my room down the hall. The ending stuck with me for a few weeks. I kept thinking the Terminator eyes were in my closet. lol
George, this is really fun. I love hearing your father's perspectives.
Love it.
Side note, I always liked how poetically written the part was about how Reese said "I always wondered what you were thinking about when that picture was taken." And at the end we discover she was thinking about Reese in that moment. Very beautiful.
Love this!
George, it could be fun to show your dad some movies with good car chases since he loves them so much.
Thank your dad for us. He's awesome!
hi to George's dad from the Internet! We love seeing you!
Since your dad loves car chases, then I think Fury Road is a perfect film for him.
The Bond and Bourne films are ones he might enjoy as well.
Bullit's meant to be the benchmark for car chases.
Duel
