WAS an amazing singer. That kind of greatness takes a heavy toll if you don't take great care of your voice, and Steve didn't, unfortunately. Arnel tries, but he's a very pale imitation of the original, and only vaguely sounds like later Steve Perry, after Steve's voice had already deteriorated.

One of their songs many have not heard is "Mother Father" Steve Perry said it was the hardest song for him to sing, especially live. The live version from 1981 Houston Concert is a must do. The entire band at their best and the Piano solo at end is special. Yes, piano solo.

A lot of people don't realize that really high pitched sound near the end is actually Steve, not an instrument. Same on wheel in the sky, forever I thought that that super high note little Melody near the end was a synthesizer or something but it's Steve's voice lol

Steve Perry is the absolute best!!! They call him The Voice for a reason! He has the smoothest & clearest tone I’ve ever heard before! I’m just glad I rocked my complete teenage years through the 80s while he was with Journey!!! Best years ever to be “Just a small town girl”!!! Yes I went there but I really am just a small town girl. Great reaction! I’ll have to check out more of your videos!!!

This beautiful song was written by Journey's keyboardist, not historically one of Journey's more frequent songwriters. He composed this with his wife in mind. he wanted to reassure her that he was not a party dude, and took his marriage, and love for her seriously. He was initially reluctant to bring it to the band as it was a departure from Journey's usual style. But Steve Perry knocked it out of the park.

Jonathan Cain was totally one of the main songwriters for Journey once he joined. He cowrote Open Arms and Don’t Stop Believin’ with Perry, for example. Most songs from 81 through 96 are Perry-Cain or Perry-Cain-Schon.

Wonderful song. We do get to hear musicians occasionally singing about various aspects of their lives. But this one is about their life as artists, going from one place to another to yet another.
Our price for seeing them perform is the price of a ticket. But what is the price that the *artists* pay for it? This song makes us ponder about that. Beautifully.

Neal Schon was a guitarist for Santana. He and Greg Rolie quit Santana. They founded Journey. Santana, Journey and I were born in San Francisco. I grew up listening to both bands.
Faithfully was released in 1983. Written by Jonathan Cain. He is on piano and synth.
Steve Perry was the lead singer. The lead singer now is Arnel Pineda. Neal Schon discovered AP on the Internet!
The late Prince called Jonathan Cain to have him listen to Purple Rain because he thought it sounded like Faithfully and didn’t want to step on any toes. JC said Purple Rain was inspired by Faithfully but not copied. JC gave a big thumbs up! 👍
    RIP Prince.
    Drums by Steve Smith. 🥁
Same year, 1983. Faithfully song sounds like Heaven. Written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. BA needed a drummer to record Heaven. His drummer Mickey Curry was not available because he was required by a prior contract to play with another musician. Steve Smith happened to be in town, New York. Thus, Heaven sounds like Faithfully.
Suggested videos: 1 Steve Perry and Kenny Loggins sing Don't Fight It 2 Bryan Adams sings Heaven.

Lots going on with they band now. What a shame too, they are making fools of themselves. It's Cain and Schon that's feuding mostly. I think every one else is out of it. Ross Valery, original bass player and I think it was Steven Smith, their second drummer, I think. Anyway they were fired and sued I believe by Schon and Cain for trying to slip in and steal away the Journey name from them. $10 million law suit. That leaves Greg Rollie, original vocals/keyboard/piano, not sure if he is still a part of the Journey trademark and then there's Steve Perry. He is part of it I do believe. He just stays out of the bickering. I could be wrong though he might have his money from it, not sure. I think Cains blaming Schon got spending ask their money or a big chunk of it anyway. Cain trying to not lose the rest of if. Not sure if that's true

"He said, 'I'll change it if you want me to change it.' I said, 'No, sir, it's a killer song. You have much, much luck with it going forward. I'm just grateful you even thought about me...and that you considered it.' It just showed how classy and caring of a guy he was."

Still They Ride is a track that was not as popular as the others, but is in my top 3 from them.

Steve Perry is by all means in the top 3 R&R vocalists. Easily #1 depending on who you are arguing the point with. Neil Shon is just as good of a guitar player as Steve is a singer. In all a band that is packed with the best of the best.
