1- Lights, 2- Send her my Love, 3- Separate Ways 4- Open Arms. 5- Lovin Touchin Squeezin 6- Wheel in the Sky, 7- Who's crying now, 8- Mother, Father, ALL ARE AWESOME!
WAS an amazing singer. That kind of greatness takes a heavy toll if you don't take great care of your voice, and Steve didn't, unfortunately. Arnel tries, but he's a very pale imitation of the original, and only vaguely sounds like later Steve Perry, after Steve's voice had already deteriorated.
One of their songs many have not heard is "Mother Father" Steve Perry said it was the hardest song for him to sing, especially live. The live version from 1981 Houston Concert is a must do. The entire band at their best and the Piano solo at end is special. Yes, piano solo.
A lot of people don't realize that really high pitched sound near the end is actually Steve, not an instrument. Same on wheel in the sky, forever I thought that that super high note little Melody near the end was a synthesizer or something but it's Steve's voice lol
Steve Perry is the absolute best!!! They call him The Voice for a reason! He has the smoothest & clearest tone I’ve ever heard before! I’m just glad I rocked my complete teenage years through the 80s while he was with Journey!!! Best years ever to be “Just a small town girl”!!! Yes I went there but I really am just a small town girl. Great reaction! I’ll have to check out more of your videos!!!
Steve Perry is epic!! Love his voice, the sound of Journey never disappoints! Love how at the end he reached that amazingly powerful crescendo and then the melody of the music brought it to a beautiful end!!
This song , melodically, inspired Prince to write Purple Rain. Listen again and you’ll hear it. Dee is right on the money!!! Jonathan Cain is on keys. He and Steve wrote a lot of songs!
Such a great group and Steve Perry's voice is astonishing. The man has so much control; one of the most beautiful and strongest voices ever in rock. Thank you guys for this great song.
Man that voice! I’ve been noticing with listening to their music with headphones on, it’s all new music!!! The drums are phenomenal, next to Steve’s voice
This is how a marriage should be, when you react to this song alongside your wife, look at her, and sing it to her face, and mean it when you sing faithfully…

Oh my God, words do carry so much meaning, this song will be forever beautiful throughout all time. I'm so glad to see your back doing Journey loved everyone of your reactions you've done like when you Love a woman, Mother Father, Don't Stop Believin'. Please react to "Why Can't This Night Go on Forever", Still They Ride (Live from Japan 1983) Steve's vocal range in this one is on another stratosphere, so much more depth than the studio version. Please more Journey!! Thank you so much Chad & Dee!💖💞🎤✨🎶
I loved this reaction, there are so many "love songs" out there but this one with the inflections in his voice and that "faithfully" after the guitar solo towards the end gives me goosebumps every time. His voice is magical and it's so beautifully written.
This beautiful song was written by Journey's keyboardist, not historically one of Journey's more frequent songwriters. He composed this with his wife in mind. he wanted to reassure her that he was not a party dude, and took his marriage, and love for her seriously. He was initially reluctant to bring it to the band as it was a departure from Journey's usual style. But Steve Perry knocked it out of the park.
Jonathan Cain was totally one of the main songwriters for Journey once he joined. He cowrote Open Arms and Don’t Stop Believin’ with Perry, for example. Most songs from 81 through 96 are Perry-Cain or Perry-Cain-Schon.
Journey came before Prince. I love how Prince was able to incooporate these notes and the sound of rock ballads into his music. Tells you how much Prince loved Journey, to take Journey's sound and make it his own.
Wonderful song. We do get to hear musicians occasionally singing about various aspects of their lives. But this one is about their life as artists, going from one place to another to yet another. Our price for seeing them perform is the price of a ticket. But what is the price that the *artists* pay for it? This song makes us ponder about that. Beautifully.
Wheel in the sky, Lovin Touchin Squeezin, Mother Father live, Anyway you want it, Send her my love, When you love a woman…..so much more really. Very deep dive.
WOW!!!!! You know that this is a real first-time listen when they stop the music where they did. Who else screamed NOOOOOOO!!!! when he paused for the first time.
@steve clapper and you know this how? Singers a while back knew they had good voices and were not in need to change it. Even one hit wonders made a hit song without it.

P.S. Journey is a local band. here. My sister, our friends from high-school and I saw them in Oakland (Day on the Green). It was a great performance .: so many wonderful songs. (This was with Steve Perry as the lead).

Journey is in my top 5 greatest band list. I am surprised you didn't say much about the drums. The drum part aside from Steve's voice is my favorite part. This song precedes Prince and sorry I think far exceedes his work. (I am sure I will get alot of hate for saying that.)
His voice...omg!!! Grew up on it on the radio . Just one in a million range and sound. So many hits by journey. Keep going on this group and or at least solo Steve Perry.
Potentially the best power ballad ever. If this is channeling Prince...it's the other way around. Prince actually thought he'd potentially stolen a chord progression and contacted them to ask if it was ok. the same thing happened when Michael Jackson wrote Billie Jean.
Steve Perry! What more can you say about his voice? When he starts, you know it's him. Such a huge range and control. Way better than Prince. Hell, I like some of his stuff, especially his guitar playing. But no one has pipes like Steve. Pineda is great, but not quite there. Steve is the man. Nice reaction.
