Earlier today I listened to this on my headphones while praying in front of the statue of the Blessèd Virgin Mary in church. I didn't need to say anything, Helen Shapiro said it all for me❤

Memories David?..you probably mean thoughts..in the 60s there were wars, if not real ones then 'cold war' ones. Relatively (statistically) the world has never before been as peaceful as it is now. That said, it is doubtful if that trend will continue forever...
@@danitadmor if the world is more peaceful now then I will happily live with my thoughts or memories. I understand nostalgia and Rose coloured glasses and all that. The world has never been a Utopia I know but God almighty it certainly is not now. On top of that Elvis is dead and we have covid and Putin and Philip is dead. It is a hard life and then you die. Seriously I do miss the old days but I have very few days left so not much point moaning. Safe safe an covid free. 😊
@@davidgibbs7232 Hi David, I understand you clearly spoke about nostalgia (which I love too - after all, I also watched this video!). And I think you also meant that nostalgia tends to 'paint' everything rose, thus not really objective. Also, we (people) generally tend to think that the 'good old days' were so much better and peaceful compared to now. Statistically that has been proven wrong and we never lived in such a 'stable' quiet world as we do now (however with the negative twitch of smartphone all day). I spoke above about 'dry facts' and nothing more. Wish you enjoy your time to the most! :-)

I just discovered a few years ago. She is nw 77 years old and very attractive with a wonderful voice. She is a Messianic Jew and her testimony from 1990 is on You Tube. She is, in my opinion, the cat's meow!
To think she was only 15 here, what a great voice and song. So mature for her age, I think she grew into her voice as she got older. She sang so many wonderful iconic songs which I still love to listen to.
hi rose, would you happen to have any to recommend i’ve found a record of Shapiros in a bargain store and would really love to further listen to her. Eager to continue :)
Helen was a true talent with a vocal maturity quite rare for someone so young,I have a CD of her and the songs show just how accomplished she is as a vocalist
So true, Bryan. The song is pure drivel, IMÒ, but her delivery is rock solid and she embellishes the Iines with all the panache of a singer twice her age. I know nothing about her -- I hope she went on to a great career and a happy life!
I met Helen About 15 years ago at a conference in Harrisburg Pa. What an awesome voice and personality. You just have to hear her singing live. What a strong voice. Better than any other female singers in America for sure!!!!!
A long time ago back when I was a kid of 11 I was at the Cinema with my family and the pre-movie was a documentary about Helen Shapiro making this track and her fist performance of it..wow..I loved her then, now I'm still thinking wow..she had a great deep voice..a real talent..weren't those days fun!
She was 15 when she recorded this she is still alive a true east end girl being a Londoner meself I always thought she was a yank. Fabulous song remind of my late parents singing and dancing.
Helen Shapiro was younger than all the members of the Beatles from Liverpool and The Animals from Newcastle put together and yet her fame gradually dwindled down when the Beatles got into fame in 1963.
Because Americans were so racist bsck then! She's got African blood...only straightened hair & Fair in complexion. Although all African entertainers from the turn of the 20th Century were extrsordinary & influenced many musical trends back then!
@@samray3297 That's crap. Her songs simply weren't as high quality as those of Petula and Dusty. As for racism, Americans were embracing Aretha, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald, so nice try.
Petula and Dusty were fine performers, My opinion is that Helen was in their class as a singer and performer. Her voice was unique. Perhaps her management did not know how, or did not make an effort to promote her in America.

Best singer ever! Period. Full Stop!!!!!!
Helen Shapiro is my all time favorite female singer. She is so, lovely and has a fantastic voice
Agree ...👍
Couldn't agree more. Great voice and lovely personality.
And mine, this song was number 1 when I was born ❤

WOW that's Miss Helen Shapiro age 15 singing LIVE, what a lady, what a voice.
You DO realise that for it to be live she would need , ya know, a microphone? Just sayin'. Not that she wasn't a good singer, of course.

Best of British.
Like Brenda Lee, she had a voice well ahead of her years. My all-time favourite Shapiro number is _You Don't Know._
No autotune And NOT a wrecking ball in sight.
my childhood song. Nostalgic. remembering how life was nice
Great song .Brings back happy memories of a nicer world.

Classic track of the 60 s she was class
My mate worked with her, he's a guitarist, Pete Moore. Legend and regular guy.
bought her very first record same age as me she was a very talented young singer loved the 60ts music
what a voice..golden.

I wholeheartedly agree. I very rarely buy music these days for that reason. As a kid, I used to buy 3 albums each pay.
Vivid memory, back in infants school the teacher put this single onto a record player (can't remember why), but this song has never left me.
😂 i know what you mean 😅
THE BEATLES OPENED FOR HER BACK IN THE DAY.
Reading her bio as I watch ! So underrated and unseen in US , we missed a gem !
Wuppaaa, oh yeh, yeh. Show biz phenoms aren't supposed to be this real. ❤Helen
OMG, This was the great Helen Shapiro at her young age! I will say she is 13, and I lover her voice so much!
The UK has produced so many phenomenal chantreuses from Vera Lyn , miss Shapiro , to Amy Winehouse and Adelle .
I agree.
Don’t forget Dusty and Duffy
Timeless.A very beautiful voice .🕊🌻❤😍♥️
One of the top favorites from my childhood!
The best British female singer!
Hands down exactly
Next to Dusty of course.
Love her voice and my favorite song by her Walking Back To Happiness.
Cant be bettered. Perfection personified.
I still love this!!
Helen Rocks
I have 21 and love this girl
HOW am I discovering this girl just today?!
What a voice at short age love her
She's a truly beautiful lady as well as an excellent singer.
Great song - perfect pitch.
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
What a personality !
Live performances are the best.
December 2022 still Love this Song.
It's that low register that does it for me. No sixteen year old should have a voice that good. Best in the business, then and now.
She's no Florence Jenkins but yes, she has an exceptional voice !!
She's a queen I love her so much
Helen Shapiro is like a white Ella Fitzgerald. What a voice!
Mind you Ella Fitzgerald was old enough to be Helen's mother. For all we know Helen's mother may be younger than Ella Fitzgerald.
Jewish
@@5277088 Comparing her to Ella is, well, absurd.
She is still going strong
Good to listen to the old pops and the footage is simple
