5/8" Titanium vs 50 Cal's Best Rounds AP, Raufoss, SLAP & SLAP-T

  • So I was watching Edwin Sarkissian's channel and he had shot some 1 1/2" thick Titanium (Not sure of the grade) with a 50 cal and a 20mm and didn't make it through. (Great video's Edwin) So I decided to go with a 5/8" thick piece of Grade 5 (6AL-4V) Titanium from TMS Titanium (Thanks guys) and start working my way up to the 1 1/2" to see if the SLAP rounds will make it through.
    The rounds we used were the MK263 AP, MK211 Raufoss, M903 SLAP and the MK962 SLAP-T.

      According to calculation’s I’ve done with M903 SLAP rounds, apparently an even longer barrel (say, 1.8m in length) could boost the speed of the rounds further, to above 1,400 m/s from the M2’s 1,219 m/s.
      Reason being I was designing a portable .50 BMG rifle designed specifically for use with the M903 SLAP round, and it helps mentioning that it’s bullpup to reduce overall length, with a bolt action on the left side for easier actuating and better potential for accuracy.

      @camarokidbb4347 if I recall correctly, and I've been retired for nearly a decade, but, if I recall correctly the original pinecone brake on the original M82 was safe to use with SLAP rounds. Wait, now I can't remember if it was, or the the switch to harmonica style was... old age. If you get ahold of the Army manual, one brake was safe to use with slap rounds without causing weapon RUD.

    If you set the playback speed to x.25 and watch when he fires the SLAP rounds you can see the moment the scope attempts to give him a black eye....

    You prob won’t see this but this vid was awesome and well done. Everyone is talking about the music, I didn’t care, all these guys have probably never heard or fired .50 cals and that’s why they don’t want the music.

    It’s a shame you didn’t show the footage of the gun going of each time.
    It was cut of just as he pulled the trigger.
    To much slow mo reminds me of the early days of Larry Vickers videos.
    Cool concept just need to calm down on the affects and get rid of all the terrible music.

    amazing content you are putting out here. great to see someone who appreciates the 50 bmg and the nastiest rounds it has to offer. Sucks its so hard to make money with youtubes anti gun policies, I still hope you go viral! You know of any way to run the regular 50 SLAP through an m82a1? are you also aware of how the slap and raufoss stack up head to head on pure armor penetration?

    • @GoingBallistic
      @GoingBallistic  4 роки тому +1

      Hello, and thanks so much for the comment. UA-cam is one tough playground that’s for sure.
      Not sure if the Slap will load in the M82, wish I had one to try. I lucked out with it loading easily into the Bushmaster 50z
      Are you talking about say the same armor that’s on a up armored Humvee or MRAP?

    • @GreenCR21
      @GreenCR21 4 роки тому

      @@GoingBallistic more referring to armored steel I would think. I know the slap is probably the nastiest, hard to beat a tungsten dart going 4k fps. But raufoss is awesome too!! Wonder if the high explosive helps penetration or is more to aid in destruction behind the armor

    • @GoingBallistic
      @GoingBallistic  4 роки тому +1

      I’m going to try and get some ar550 steel to try. I know Texas Plinking tried a Raufoss round on some and it didn’t go through. I think the slap will but I won’t know until I try👍😬

    If you are worried about ricochet slant the plate forward at a decent angle and it will ground the rounds after they bounce back. Just use a stronger material to hold the plate in place so it doesn’t slam back far enough to project the rounds out at a bad angle.

    • @GoingBallistic
      @GoingBallistic  4 роки тому

      Hello and thanks for the comment. The sabots can come off in the brake causing a lot of damage to your rifle. That’s why we made an adapter for our 50 cal so we can now shoot them with our brake on.

    It would be really cool to see a side by side comparison with steel and titanium to see how they compare in ballistic protection in regards to both thickness and weight.
    One would think AR500 is a little stronger when compared in thickness, but weaker when comparing weight.
