Black screen is not a crash, it's a disconnection from the server with the popup not showing. If you get lucky you can click the OK button and maybe it sends you to the menu, but I never find it so I just write quit in the console. But you misunderstood the item persistence. Yes in theory everything can stay where you left it, but that's only until you switch servers or until server cleanup kicks in because they have to strike a balance between persistence and performance. The only place where you ideally have total permanence is your personal hangar at the moment, which is only in your hometown and is based on the biggest ship you had on your account (or maybe in general?) when the last patch rolled out. The game will only give you temporary hangars if you land outside your hometown or with a ship that wouldn't fit into your personal hangar.
Better yet just superimpose.your face incredibly uncomfortably onto your character. Everyone uses VoIP, be the wackjob you want to see I'm the world@@yinrascal
Your frieght manager isn't the only place you can get items you purchased usually there are terminals near stores which you can get small items from like water food and weapons
The items in my main hangar have stayed where they are since I recorded this. I've heard Your primary hangar is the only place that has true persistence though :)

Intel i9 processor, RTX 3080ti GPU, 32GB of Ram (at time of recording. I just upgraded to 64gb) and running on a 1TB SSD :)

aha, I've found the inventory terminals since 😂 but nah, 100% swap roll and yaw. The default feels weird af! 😅
