Southern Rhone may be the most beautiful wine region in France! Stunning landscapes, quaint villages, ancient geography, and tons of Côtes du Rhône vineyards, all winding along the Rhône River in the South of France. The winemakers have tremendous respect for the land and work hard to preserve its legacy. Join Vince and his friend and local Frenchman, Sarkis, on a road trip through this wonderful wine region while learning about the fresh & fun red, rosé, and white wines of Southern Rhône!
All locations, wines, and wineries are listed at: visforvino.com/southern-rhone
DESCRIPTION: The Southern Rhône Valley in the South of France has some of the most incredible wine history in the world! The Romans cultivated this land thousands of years ago, and the people who work the land now know how special their vineyards are. We start our journey in Avignon, which is the capital of Côtes du Rhône wines, and talk about the geography, Mediterranean climate, and how the Rhône River helps the region's terroir. Next, I head to lunch at Le Carré du Palais with my friend and native Frenchman Sarkis in his 1957 MG convertible to meet an American ex-pat and sommelier, Kelly McAuliffe. Kelly guides us through a tasting of 3 different Rhône Valley wines and their pairings in a fantastic French lunch. Next, we'll talk about the AOCs of the Rhone: Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Côtes du Rhône named Villages, and Cru. We then taste some amazing biodynamic wines at Domaine De Montirius before chatting about the different grapes of the Rhône and their characteristics. The most popular grapes are Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, and they make what's called a GSM blend. We then stop at a local French market in Vaison-la-Romaine, and we pick up cheese, meats, and jams before heading to Domaine de Cousignac, where winemaker Raphaël Pommier explains why he uses music in his winemaking. Next, I talk to winemaker Philippe Guigal of E. Guigal wines, one of the most famous wine houses in the world. Finally, we have dinner at FLAVEURS restaurant (by Baptiste Poinot) with Maxime Chapoutier, another iconic Rhone wine brand. In the final scene, Sarkis and I drive off into the distance, reminiscing of our incredible French wine road trip through the Southern Rhone Valley.

Thanks so much!
My thoughts exactly, we are definitely traveling to France as soon as the children finish school, thank you !!
Agreed. You’ve come a long way. New filming, script, visual aids, are all fire.
@@brettchaponot7718 Thank you for saying so! I agree, I feel we've really grown!
PBS should pick this up as a series!
Bourdain is looking upon you from the great beyond and smiling.
🥲😃😃
Another top quality episode
Thanks so much!
Wow this ppl are real heroes and guardian’s of the valley 😊

So true the French knows their food and wine
all of you are the best wine channel for me.
Thank you!!
So magical, wonderful and emotional! Awesome👏🏻👏🏻🍷
Thanks Joici!
Can’t go wrong with the beauty and the wines of France or Italy. ❤
So beautiful what you told about the farmer believing in what he is doing
Thank you. He's a tremendous winemaker for sure!
Wow!!! What an awesome episode! KEEP THEM COMING PLEASE!
I’ve enjoyed this insanely good episode. Sorry, I’m leaving to open a bottle of a nice wine :)
A wine without oak is like a beautiful woman without make up- classic🍷
Love that line!
Ah Vince and crew!!! Merci. This episode is just a jewel. Your production value and design is insanely good and the subject of these travel shows just comes through with amazing creativity and clarity. This is truly one of the most gorgeous regions of France. And you presented it and the wine beautifully. Still pulling for a bit more of the classical and regional music of the areas you visit mixed in with your other soundtracks. I think it would enhance the feel and sound of these episodes.
Great job promoting GSM!
Love me some good GSM!
As usual good job. Today I accompanied my meal with a bottle of Vacqueras Chateau des Roques 2020. I believe that the wines of the Rhône Valley are a safe bet. Have a good trip.
Agreed!
Cheers Vince, Francesco and team, excellent information and visualisation. Ross
This was spectacular. Listen, I'm registering for WSET Level 1 because I love the fermented grape. Your videos inspired me even more. Thank you!
Good luck on the test! Get a tasting group together, it really helps!
Wait until you get to level 3. You’ll question why you did it. 😂 Have fun.
Amazing episode, my new favourite show on youtube
Yess!!!!
C'est incroyable!!!!
Can't believe this is free content. Thank you!
We work hard to keep our content free! It's important to us that wine education is accessible!
Good stuff! Can’t wait for the next episode.
Amazing episode ❤
Thank you!!
Another perfect episode!!!
Great episode as ever!
Best job ever!
My favorite part is TODAY! I love releasing new episodes for you all to watch!
Amazing episode 👍🏼
Thank you for bringing Amazing episode to us
YES FINALLY MY V IS FOR VINO FIX
whoo!!
One of your best shows. I would not put it above the Virginia one, but it's surely a classic, for the car and the scenery alone. The first show I watched drunk (on a chilean Rhone blend, so it's ok), and the whistling thing made me burst out laughing every time - none less than the river presentation.
The music editing is really smart, and the rockabilly on the plaid shirt with the rockabilly haircut was just genius. Kudos to whomever thought it.
The Chapoutier Belleruche is one of mine go-to, in terms of value. Great to see it highlighted.
I actually get anxious for new material from you guys. Great work. Hope you come to South America.
haha Thanks for noticing the music! We have fun doing the "vibe" of the show. And I've got great news for you; we already filmed Chile, and it comes out in fall!
@@visforvino Great news!
I haven't seen the episode yet but just the title has me so excited - this is one of my favourite regions!! Greetings from Australia, you need to come Down Under because we have some fantastic wine here too!
I'm hoping to soon for sure!
Wonderful production. Rhône is one of my favourite regions where the mistral makes it possible to produce bio wines as well. Bargains can be found in Cairanne, Lirac, Plan de Dieu, Sablet and Vacqueras (Montirius indeed, they make Gigondas too as you know). Gigondas got a little expensive, not to mention Châteauneuf-du-Pape where prices have been sky rocketing.
For sure! That's the good news. World class wines exist, but values can be found too!
@@visforvinototally agree with you
Amazing production! Thoroughly enjoyed this
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! Fantastic video!
Wow! Beautiful indepth articulation, poetic infact... but then wines deserve poetry. Made me nostalgic as l lived studied worked loved and traveled around France .... especially in Rhone areas and Provence!
Thanks a lot 😊
One of the best series on wines and world on UA-cam. As a butcher by trade I enjoy when you incorporate the lunches and dinners with the pairing of some beautiful and tasty foods! Keep rocking on man!
Thank you so much! Yes, the food pairings are some of my favorite parts of the episodes too!
Agree with others on the production and information on this episode. This is a good place to start for learning more on Southern Rhone wines.
Awesome Episode. 🥂🥂🥂😍🙏🙏🙏
"I'm doing my best" 👍🤙
Thanks for another great episode, highlighting all these passionate people is so cool.
Loved the episode and beautifully shot, we went out and bought some red and white Côtes du Rhône last weekend after watching
Nice!
Just bought Bellaruche Red and White (screwtops) at ABC in Florida for $14.99/ea. Can't wait to try!
Nice!!
Beautifully Shared 🍷
Your video productions are without question perfect.
Very informative and intensely interesting. Wonderfully produced and edited..
Much appreciated!
What an awesome video 🎉
Just make me hungry to learn and visit again Southern France.
I went to Avignon and Château Neuf Du Pape years ago.
But really want to do a Road trip around the region.
Cheers to you 🍷🍷
Another beautiful episode!🍷❤️👏
Wow, very well done!!!!
The MGA early series 1 is a nice touch.. A Frenchman driving a Brit car; classic !
😂
C'est magnifique ! Mon rosè favori! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for posting this video, I appreciate it. I so enjoyed the region. This was such a delight to view I loved it
very entertaining.
Vince once again you have out done yourself! It is gratifying that you feature wines that not only are widely available but affordable. We love the Belleruche blanc. It’s a go to sipper and easily matches easy home cooking like grilled chicken, pork or fish or just a pre-supper delight. Good job!
Thank you! Yes, the great thing about S. Rhône is that you can find great wines for solid prices!
I learned so much about Southern Rhone wines, this is an awesome production ;)
Thank you!
I can’t wait to visit some of the places you’ve featured. This is great content!
Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you so much for this great episode ❤🍷 loved it and made a whole evening out of watching the episode 😜 went and bought some red and white Cotê Rhône wines for the evening☺️
Yes! Thank you, I love that you made a night of it!!
Rhône and champagne are my two favorite French wine regions. I got a question on my WSET 3 on Rhône.
Hope to do Champagne soon!

Happy to have you on board!!!
Great Production!!!Congratulations!!
Always smile while your new episode arrived. Waiting for the next one, best regards from Poland. (We also have some small success with vineyards 😅)
Nice! My wife is Polish, after your comment, she's now pushing hard for us to get there for an episode!
@@visforvino rly? So nice to hear that. Cross fingers for this project - I'm pretty sure in next 10 years Polish vineyards will means "something" in wine world. But even today I guess we have a lot to offer - but in very small quantities :).
Thanks! I’m going try some of the wines showcased here. Especially the Chapoutier Belleruche Cotes du Rhône Rouge.
Perfect! That should be fairly easy to find!
I learned a lot in this video. Thank you for the great work. My road trips to the south are going to take longer!
Danke!
Thank you so much!!!!
This is amazing. Excellent video...🍷
Thank you!
I love these episodes so much. Just got back from Italy; now you’re making me want to go to France 😅
haha keep it going!
Another top notch production. Thank you!
Great video, thank you!
East of Avignin the areas around the Durance have some excellent wines
Good tip!
I like wine but not so much into it. Somehow YT recommended this channel and I cannot stop watching V is for Vino. Amazing quality content, Vince has amazing voice and charisma, awesome food, drone footage, landscapes and city walks, social interaction - man I can go on and on. Such a nicely job done, I wish you more subscribers! And I want to learn more about wine thanks to these series. Cheers!
This is such a great compliment! Wine is so fun and so intrinsically tied to place, I'm so glad to have you on board for the ride!
I always enjoy your road trips.)))
Agree with everyone. Amazing video that I want to watch it again and again. I just love the European episodes as there is so much history and scenery is stunning. Thank you and can’t wait for upcoming episodes.
Glad you enjoyed it! More to come!!
this episode like the other is the best! i hope you keep doing more and more, well done VInce and crew
Thank you so much. More to come!
Best show yet! Very informative, beautifully shot and love the personal stories. My husband and I are ready to book a trip back to France! Thank you for your hard work.
Thank you!!
Thank you. You have put together a fantastic episode. Keep it up. God bless your channel and sales.
Vince and your team congrats, really good video !
Merci à toute ton équipe.😉
Once I bought some bottles of Chante Cigale to Chateauneuf du Pape.
The taste was woody because of the oak fermentation but after 8 years the taste was amazing.
It is always better to wait minmum 5 years before to drink a wine like that.
For sure, gotta let some of those Cru wines develop in bottle for some time, I agree!
Another great show V!! Great interviews with the winery owners and man the food looked so good. I'm sure the wines were great. Now, you have peeked my interest in Southern Rhone Valley wines. Can't for the next show. Keep up the great work! Salud!!
Thanks, the next one will be a fun one!
I always enjoy your road trips. They are both entertaining and informative.
Thanks Owen!
Just joined your V for vino club. How about next trying small group travel to the vineyards with he food and wines you discuss so passionately?
Thanks so much Steve, honored to have you!! We’ve talked about it, and it definitely may happen in the future. Unfortunately our travel and film schedule is fairly busy, so it doesn’t leave a lot of time for extra travel. But hopefully one day when things calm down a bit!
I just discovered this channel, and I am pleasantly surprised by the traveling through region’s videos. They are entertaining and informative at the same time. Why the channel has so few subscriptions surprises me. Anyway, I’ll keep watching them and enjoy some of the wines that have been tasted on the show, from a different perspective.
Thanks so much, happy to have you on board!
You have a great job
Great video thank you, I really liked the focus on the whites rather than the somewhat trivial GSM reds
I love the Rhone whites!!!
How on earth this is only a 46k subscribers channel?
If I could tumb twice I would do that)))
Love your videos
Excellent production, thanks so much for an entertaining hour. Im super happy that I can even find a couple of these wines down here in New Zealand as its usually not the case.
Yes, they should be fairly easily found abroad!
@@visforvino mate you would be surprised how hard it is to get things down here 😒
