How on earth do you only have 14K subs!?! Top tier production and scripts. Amazing display of the wines and people behind them. Thanks for all the shows!
Disclaimer: I am Portuguese; a totally biased one. So in order to keep it bareable for those reading this,I will avoid talking about the wines, except for this one mention: I was really happy for you when that 1863 bottle came up, someone like you totally deserves it. A very special episode with the high quality content and technical acumen we are by now used to. Keep going, it is just a matter of time until you get the number of views and subscribers you and your team deserve.
Thank you again for the amazing words. Means a lot coming from someone whose home country we do our best to represent! I was just glad to experience that special moment with the team as well; having it alone on my couch would have been nice, but it’s always better to have a memory with others too! So honored to have you as a fan!
I usually prefer Sherry over Port, but Port is amazing. I've tasted a 118 YO Tawny (barrel sample of vintage 1900) and 1964 white Port. This was simply out of this world.
Right. Super professional video, amazing knowledge and personality. I agree with other commenters, it is a mystery why you're not at several hunfred thousand subscribers. The best video on the wine and region I have seen.
Excellent video on port! Recently visited Porto and just learned about the process, types and history of this glorious wine. Your content captured the information in a great way in addition to giving lots of background to making the drink accessible. Great job!
Found this because I'm heading to Porto in September for the first time (grew up in US, live in London). Can't wait to try out all the lovely wines/ports that will be there. Thanks for sharing all of this.
Found this because I’ve just toured northern Portugal for 2 weeks with college friends. We loved Porto and the Douro Valley, Braga and all that northern region of vineyards, stopping at Quinta do Seixo of Sandeman and the Mateus & Sequeira Wine and Tapas tasting room right on the river.
Opening that bottle 1863 was an absolute show stopper. This was a truly special episode. I will be in Douro soon, hoping to make memories of my own 💍 🤫😉
I only now found about your channel and I was so surprised with the quality of it. I can't understand how you don't have well above 100k subscribers. It's insane!! Also this episode really hit me in the feelings. as a young boy I used to go spend the holidays in the north of Portugal and always went through the douro valley and all my family is from that region. When you're in the river and look up to all those vineyards shooting up in the direction of the sky and think how was that possible to be made is something you'll never forget. And when older you get to try those wines and think about the place and people is even more special. Congrats on a great episode and a wonderful channel, hope it keeps growing so you can keep doing this and visit other beautiful places.
Jorge, so happy to have you on board! Yes, it's really such a magical place, and I'm so happy you also got to experience it. Thanks for the encouragement, it really helps keep us going!
Why do seasons have to end?! Amazing season. Think I'm already on my 3rd watch through, the production value is top tier. Proud of you guys, really knocked it out of the park with this one. I might just sneak into your luggage your next trip...YOU CANT STOP ME!
I'd like to say that I couldn't stop smiling watching both videos from Portugal. I am portuguese and is very heartwarming seeing you just appreciating our history and tradition so much, as well as the respect you show with your production and commentaries. Thank you for sharing this!
In my bucket list of 5 as the #1 place to visit. Thank you for the briefing on port categories. I kept hearing the words spice and pepper notes - music to my ears! What an enjoyable episode for us and experience for you and your team. 🙏🏼
Man! What an incredible documentary. You must do a clip only with that 1863 tasting. Tittle it "Tasting a 1863 Port" or something like that and you will hit 1M views.
Your footage is absolute topnotch, a businesscard for Portugal. I enjoyed this episode very much. I have visited Vila Nova di Gaia and (of course) Porto. I had a tour at Taylor's. Their LBV is one of my favourite daily ports, next to Graham's 10 years old tawny en Quinta da Romaneiro LBV. It's a pity port sells less good these days, so portmakers shifted for a part to red wines. They are usually very good and interesting. To be honest, I did not have any bad experiences with Portugese wines in the last five to ten years.
Wonderful video! I had so much port and tonic in Portugal and have such fond memories. Currently drinking Sandeman Founders Reserve and looking forward to trying more ports!
We have traveled to Portugal twice and spent some time in the Douro Valley, it is an off the chart experience. To see in person the steep vineyards is hard to imagine how much work is involved just to maintain and harvest, but to think about the labor to plant and terrace the “hills” is mind blowing. We found the food, the people and the wine an unforgettable experience and hope to go back again. Thanks Vince and your crew, it was a great episode.
Thanks Michael! It was a my second time there as well, and I would go again! It's a great city, affordable, and full of wonderful people. And yes, I don't even want to imagine how challenging it was to harvest those hills before machine assistance!
Sandeman from the episode does a really good job in their tours. There’s also a port wine museum called WOW worth checking out. Ferrira, Offley, and Calem are all great as well!
I'm a CMS certified somm and I'm just coming here to verify that this guy knows his shit. He's probably at a higher level in the Court than I am and was just too modest to say it. If you're just finding this, as I am, stick around and listen - this is the best equivalent to professional-level training you can possibly get for practically free. I'll be supporting and sharing.
I get a lot of nice comments, but this is one of my favorites. Thanks for capturing the "core" of what we're trying to do! I started V is for Vino to provide the education that I wanted when I was studying for my exams, and I'm so happy it's resonating!
I wish I had seen this before a college girlfriend and I knocked off a whole bottle of Portuguese Niepoort 20-year-old port which had been in my husband’s collection for over ten years at that time. He was away for work and we decided to just swig it while making dinner. 😂 I never confessed when he later wondered what happened to that bottle. 😅
Just came across your Chanel and I have 2 words for you… “Thank You”. As a big wine enthusiast, currently living in Brazil but proudly born in Porto, I really appreciate the truly inspired production of the episode about my hometown and the amazing drink we all cherish “Porto” 🍷 For all your viewers and followers, I sincerely hope that have the opportunity of visiting Porto one day. So glad I found this channel. Astounding production and videos! You make wine so approachable. I would not think twice if this were a program on Food network or PBS. Keep it up, will definitely be along for the ride!
Great video. I've been to Porto many times. I think it's the most beautiful city on earth. I'm going back again this year hopefully. I really like Port and the table wines of Portugal. I recently started getting into sherry. Have you done a video in Jerez? I'd love to hear your thoughts on sherry.
Oh man, I LOVE sherry, and have been trying to make an episode there for some time. Such a misunderstood and versatile wine. Hope to get there someday soon!
A 1863 port wine is the Holy Grail. You can put a price to it. But the truth is that it is priceless. An experience like no other. A privilege. And, in a way, a reminder that we are here for a short time and somethings will outlast us and it it is a good thing to leave them for generations to come.
Vince, I simply love your show! A top quality content. You deserve millions of views per video, but I'm sure it's coming soon! My warmest recommendation for your next wine trip - CROATIA. World-class wine and cuisine, olive oil, rich history and architecture...not to mention the breathtaking landscapes! All of it in the heart of Europe.

I found your videos only recently after deciding that this year I would focus (outside of work) on improving my knowledge of wine. This is how I came across your videos. The production value and content are incredible, I would have sworn these were high viewer cable tv shows, but to find you do these on your own, I was astonished. Have told my friends to check out your content as well and hopefully they will all join your VIP club like I did. Please keep these coming.
Shawn, thank you so much for the awesome compliment! Yes, me and the team work our face off for sure! But I'm super proud of the final product, and I'm so glad its resonating. Thank you for joining VIP, it means the world, and its worth it I promise! Cheers, and thanks again!
The Lodges were on the south side of the river because the taxes to be paid in Porto, on the North side of the Douro were extremely high. So they built the Lodges on the south side, where taxes were much lower.
This is very well done. Thanks for showing love to Portuguese wine. It deserves much more recognition as most is excellent. It's incredible that you got to try an 1863 port. 🤯 Oldest I've had was 1933 & 1975.
I’m just glad to have opportunity; I had wanted to do the Port episode for a long time. And trying that super old Port was magical, and just a bonus - I didn’t expect it!
