Hello, I wanted to say thank you! I have the same car as you and the same issue! I bought a new sump (£23.99 brand new from ebay) and made the replacement based on your video. I have absolutely NO mechanical background, but do enjoy fixing things. The local garage quoted £225 to get the sump replaced. With my sump and sealant, I spent about £37. Your video gave me the confidence to do this job. Excellent and thank you.
Thank you so much fort the kind comment. £225 is a fair bit isn't it. Get a few tools for that lol. I enjoy hearing stories like this where I may have helped people.
That static is a real pain (quite literally) .My wife's car gets me every time ,and it really hurts. Nice blasting booth. We have friends who live in Cilcennin and every time we visit it rains.
In the 80's we always added those black straps at the rear of the car to the ground but modern cars don't use them for some reason. I grounded the mat in the end by laying a breaker bar from the mat to the ground. Cilcennin is nearer the coast so should be dryer in theory. Everything seems to be extreme in Wales, boiling heat, tons of rain and winds that rattle the house apart.
I did a similar job on a Renault Twingo mk2 a couple of months ago. They use the same engine if I’m not mistaken. While removing the oil sump I damaged the oil dipstick. It was easily replaced for a new one (~ 8 euro’s) but I would advise anyone who’s considering the remove the oil pan to remove the oil dipstick first. Just to be safe.
As a competent DIY mechanic myself, I like your videos and tutorials. Just one question though, why don't you invest in some ramps and a crawler which would save you jacking the car up and laying down the rubber mats? Ramps are cheap enough from Halfords.
@@davidmehlhorn726 Thank you. I found ramps to be a bit awkward driving up them and did overshoot once. I’d buy longer ramps but they are really expensive.
I mean, 30£ are 30£ but I think I'd definitely go with a new one! That was quite the job, but at least you entertained us. :) One silly question, those blue tissues (sorry for the lack of better word) you use to clean, do they have a special name? They seem quite sturdy and don't tear up easily or leave tiny dust bits behind like the white ones I normally use. Kevin-Albert Williams (youtube channel) also uses those kind of black mats, but I never saw him get a shock, probably because he uses gloves? Anyway, they seem quite handy. Thanks for sharing the video.
Logic would say just spend the £30 but if you own a welder you do have to show your wife it was a vital purchase by mending everything lol. The Blue roll is amazing, I have added links to the rolls and the stand in my amazon shop. It's Tork 130050 at £60 a roll. It's not cheap but I tried the normal small blue rolls and you seem to use more of the cheaper stuff. One of these big rolls lasts me a couple of years at least. I was watching Kevin when I saw him using them and thought ***, why have I been crawling on tarmac all these years. Halfords were doing them for £16 for 6 so got 4 packs and I'm a changed man lol. They make working under a car so much easier. Just don't spin too much on a hot day in a nylon boiler suit haha
So much caring for a oil pan. Even oldies don't have such treatment. Are you sure it wasn't the cam cover gasket or anything else? Because it's prone to fail. I have this engine on my CLIO. Good video as always. The static shock was a thing!
Thank you Karim as always complimentary. Definitely the sump weeping, it was on the to do list for a while. Will check the cam cover gasket now you mention it as well if they are weak on them. The mats are fantastic but you can get quite a sting from them lol.
@@CoatsandGaiters The spark plug seasl on mine were cracked and some oil camve from above too, so I changed the cover gasket and put a few sealant on the plug gaskets for last longer. Best regards
Thank you !!! I will ask my relative to burn the clutch out so I can mend it lol must be due thinking about it as she’s done over 100,000 miles in it now.
Don`t know what to say about this 1.2engine. The one from the first Logan/Sandero generation ( the old 1.4MPI + aftermarket LPG) would last at least 300K miles, without any intervention.
@@CoatsandGaiters Don`t know if a D4F will last so long. I`m looking for 1.5 Dci K9K, or this 1.4 Mpi. Just need a cheap/easy-to-maintain commute car from A to B.

What material is that sump? Iron?

A physical gasket ?

Seems like we had a sweet spot with combustion engines up to 2007 and then things changed with the pressure of tightening emissions.
