Do you have recommendations on a modestly priced mic for voiceovers which doesn’t pick up much background noise? Really like this review! Was considering the Baby Bottle but your comment near the end makes me think twice. 🙂
There is just something about Blue's microphones that turn me off personally. They seem to elevate certain frequencies to give the voice more projection (like a radio station host) but it comes off a bit unnatural to me.
Very interested to hear how the Baby Bottle compares to the Shure KSM32 and JZ V11. From what I can tell, the Blue Bottle sounds a fraction brighter than both the KSM32 and JZ V11? What are your thoughts on how these mics compare?
Hi podcastage, considering adding this mic to my lineup, I am curious by what you meant concerning condenser mics and room reflections. Are you simply referencing the fact that all condenser mics, being very sensitive, tend to capture room reflection and are better suited to treated studios? I VO/narrate in a good closet, so I think I have the reflection issues largely covered.
What do you prefer for singing regular vocals overall the baby bottle or sm7b ? Theres no right or wrong just which one would you pick up in your preferences ?
this mic isn't good for guitar amplifier because it saturate too much? i didn't understand your explanation about it, i felt like it isn't crisp enough for electrics guits or doesn't catch very well the hi freqs? ; another question is: if I use the SM57 and a Baby bottle SL a little far away can work for more tasty sound? in this case they work as team? thank you very much.
quick question: Why is my mic picking up output noise that my headset would usually pick up, and no the mic isn't picking up the noise from my headset.
Hey, Podcastage, I was wondering what usb mic at 50-ish $ would you suggest? Was looking at Marantz pod pack but maybe there is something better? You also mentioned that knox was quite good.
this is off topic but would you still give a good rating on the neewer phantom power as quality goes ? will it still do the job for my bm-800? Thanks !
@Sergey Petrov is this one little bit brighter or something? Because i keep hearing that the old ones are dark and "boomy", i really like bluebird , but it can be bit harsh and thin sometimes.

The toggle switches on the front, the non-SL does not have them. Most folks claim the original sounds a bit better. And the early european manufactured units better still.
Have You Tried The Original Blue Bluebird, It doesn't have a grounding issue and has different circitory (although the capsule is the same) which doesn't result in the crunchy high end.

Hey, Bandrew, what did you study/major in to know all this and why it's important? I plan on going into a field dealing with this so that would help lots! Thanks :)

If you recommend not getting a condenser for voice over, what type of mic would you suggest? I want to put together a setup for recording videos, but can't spend too much cashola.
What type of voice overs are you referring to? And it's not necessarily that I don't recommend condensers for voice over. In professional V/O studios you will find condensers. However, they have fully treated rooms that are relatively dead. If you do not have any treatment in your room that has lots of room reflections (reverb) and you're submitting a V/O take to a customer, they may reject it. Now if you're doing let's plays or podcasts, then look at dynamic mics. They do a slightly better job at background noise rejection due to the slightly reduced frequency response and less sensitive electronics which requires you to be right on top of the microphone.
So, I have the cheaper version, Snowball ICE. From what I know, it's identical except that it doesn't have pattern selection and the included tripod is plastic. When I have used it on PS4 or Skype, people have actually inquired as to what headset I was using because it sounded so good. I have never tried to record something and play it back, so I can't tell you exactly how good it sounds. The microphone itself feels pretty solid. In a pinch, I could probably use it as a murder weapon. The only real complaint I have is that the included stand feels like a toy, especially compared to the solid mic.
They're about on par with each other. At this point it depends on what look you want. That said, the Sm7 is great for overhead booms due to its mount. Sound wise, they're about on par.
@@Podcastage Ah. Fair enough. I guess I'll shop for a new one. I remember my Rode NT2-A came with the shockmount with it's own pop filter attached that was great. But I'll be looking to upgrade to this mic and guess look around amazon for a new standalone pop filter. Any in particular you recommend or pop filter brand really doesn't matter that much in your view as I'd imagine?
@@Podcastage Wanted to say I purchased the baby bottle and this review along with your blue mic shootout was super influential. People...this mic is MAAADE for primetime. I love it. Listen to Podcastage when he is talking haha he won't steer you wrong. Thanks a million man. I'm really happy with this mic!
@@Drizzydid How is it compared to Rode NT2-A? im thinking about getting this mic, and i too have the Rode NT2-A. It would be nice to hear your thoughts? Because Rode already is pretty good and both of these mic's are on the same price range.
@@yesyesyes150 Prepare for very long detailed answer because it took me forever to decide on my next mic after the NT2-A and if I can save you and others some time I think it's worth it to provide a good answer here. Okay so same price range kind of but not totally exactly because Rode is 399.99 as a bundle coming already with shock mount, pop filter, and XLR cable. Blue Baby Bottle is just the mic only with shockmount no pop filter no XLR. So the actual microphone by itself alone face value Blue is a little more expensive since you would theoretically have to buy a pop filter and XLR to get the exact same total package the NT2-A bundle gives you out of the box if say it was your first mic purchase (not your case but for others who view this answer). And no the Blue mic is NOT compatible with Rode NT2-A SM-6 shockmount/pop filter from the bundle it doesn't fit inside so I want to let you know that in advance as well that you will definitely be buying a new pop filter. Of course the XLR cable from rode is compatible with this all XLR are the same. So onto your question, in terms of comparing performance I hate to say the cop out answer but it depends...but let me elaborate and say that I only say it depends because it truly depends on your voice type I think. For me the Blue is much better comparatively to the Rode NT2-A because when I bought the Rode honestly I didn't do a lot of research I just bought it because it was the mic a UA-cam singer I used to follow was "using" in all his vids (before I realized most of them are just lip-syncing to pre-recorded material that might not have even been created through the mic in the vid haha)...but yes that was my basis completely for buying the Rode NT2-A at the time. Fast-forward to now having both the NT2-A and the Blue mic I'd say the Blue mic is better because my voice type is naturally on the brighter side so the Rode just accentuated that too much so at times especially singing in higher registers there was an element of harshness there and at times my voice just sounded a bit thin/"kiddy". In the midrange it was good enough but still it sounded a little too bright/harsh at times when matched with my voice. In lower range it was great had a real sheen to it because of the high end it adds (more on this in a bit). With that said, I think the Blue baby bottle by being a dark mic colours my voice personally in a much more complementary way because having a naturally brighter voice paired with this darker mic has so far seemingly allowed me to sing through all ranges high mid low and there's not that harshness and there's more fullness/thickness that my bolsters my voice. Take a look at the EQ spectrums for both the Rode NT2-A vs Baby Bottle just google "Rode NT2-A frequency response" and "Blue Baby Bottle frequency response" and you will see how the Rode adds more high end that doesn't necessarily bode well for an already bright timbre but would for someone with a darker timbre whereas blue baby is actually dampening high end which bodes well for a brighter timbre like what I have in my voice. So my ultimate answer is it depends: if your voice has a naturally bright timbre the the Blue Baby Bottle will be better for you I think. If your voice is naturally dark and deep in its timbre already...Rode NT2-A is probably going to be better for you. Keep in mind when I say timbre bright vs dark isn't necessarily meaning singing high versus low it just means your voice tone (e.g. two people hit the same note high or low doesn't matter you would hear one person's voice as having a brighter sound and the other's as darker even though hitting the exact same note that's what I mean). Finally, in terms of mix I can see a Rode NT2-A cutting through a mix more easily and being more upfront in your face vs sitting within the mix and meshing the way the Baby Bottle more easily would because of the frequency spectrum as well. So yeah that keep in mind as well but I think that is more secondary to think about. So yeah this is my answer and this is only my opinion others may disagree and I'm open to the dialogue if that is the case but for me personally given my voice type Blue Bottle is better. But that is for me, might not be for you evaluate what I've said and couple it with your research and let me know what you think! Of course the genre of music and type of instrumentals/tone of sound elements you're recording over can affect things as well but then we could go on literally forever (and I would as I love these kind of discussions) on things that affect choosing between mics so let's end here.
That is normal. You cannot use a condenser microphone with a cloudlifter. The reason being, the normal cloudlifter blocks ALL phantom power from going through to the microphone. The Baby Bottle SL is a condenser so it needs that phantom power to work. The Standard Cloud Lifter is only good for Dynamics or Ribbons.

Stuck between this and a Shure Sm7b, I’ll be using it mostly if not always for vocals (singing not voiceover). Any help would be appreciated :)
Hope you got this. You can pick up an sm58 for 100 bucks and have the best of both worlds
Which one did you end up getting ? Im in the same dilema
I won’t be buying this anytime soon, but I love the reviews duude!!
i buy this mic today thanks to this video
Is this one usb?
Blue baby bottle Sl vs Warm Audio wa87 r2 ? Which one to choose?
Both
What a nice microphone :)
Great reveiw. What's your take for professional music studio production the mk4 or blue bottle?
Baby Bottle, hands down.
Babby Bottle vs AT4033a?
Would anyone recommend this over shure SM7 for musical recording ?
They're about on par with each other. At this point it depends on what look you want. That said, the Sm7 is great for overhead booms due to its mount. Sound wise, they're about on par.
Does it not come with its own pop filter in the box? Why would Blue not include that?
No it does not. There are plenty of microphones that do not come with pop filters.
Could you review Superlux hd 330 headphones i've heard
great things about them
My baby bottle sl won't work with a cloud lifter is this normal?
That is normal. You cannot use a condenser microphone with a cloudlifter. The reason being, the normal cloudlifter blocks ALL phantom power from going through to the microphone. The Baby Bottle SL is a condenser so it needs that phantom power to work. The Standard Cloud Lifter is only good for Dynamics or Ribbons.
Podcastage you are the best. Thank you !
