    In my opinion, this mic really shines for voice related work when you take advantage of its proximity effect and get close to it.

    Im extremely surprised that you don't like this microphone . It sounds very natural on your voice and acoustic guitar, and I'm always very concerned that a microphone might exacerbate sibilance as it's something that's an issue for my voice. Im not really hearing that in this review and am overall very impressed with its sound, thanks for the review!

      I agree. I thought "this is the best mic I've ever heard on his voice." However, I would only use it for speaking; when singing, it was too present and did not blend well.

    I just got mine, as far as my singing and bars go this thing is a game changer. I’ve also been using it as a one mic wurst setup on my drums in neutral with the -20 pad on, as well as a mono over head. Shines like a diamond. I’m with the others in the comments, I would’ve thought you’d love this guy

    Just got this microphone after my old PURE X1 started to play up after nearly 30 years. I kind of jumped in looking at what I could understand of the specs and reading some reviews. But I am really pleased with it's sound, it sounds very natural and I've been performing streaming live singing and everybody seems to like the sound. Thanks for your very comprehensive review!!

    I can't agree. I recently got a C214 and compared it with a Rode NT1A and a Shure 87A recording my partner singing while I recorded all three simultaneously with flat EQ. I then asked her which she preferred in a blind playback. We both agreed that the C214 is a warmer mic. The Rode is a slightly brighter mic and the Shure 87A is a vocal recording mic but not quite as "open" sounding (we use the Shure 87A gigs and love them as PA mics. They replaced our SM58's years ago.). So between the AKG and the Rode we went with the AKG track. That might change with future recording projects and styles. We have used a pair of Rode NT1A mics for about 15 years for vocals so maybe we just notice the subtle difference with the AKG and like it. That could change. Other than an acoustic guitar track I haven't used the AKG C214 for other instruments but I am loving it on vocals. It's a matter of preference and subtle differences. I'm still a big Rode NT1A fan for myself.

    As someone who had owned two AKG c214s for a few years now and recorded piano almost exclusively with them, I have to admit that they leave a little to be desired. They aren't bad, the build construction is impressive, but they have always felt like they're missing a little something.

    • @Podcastage

      @@Podcastage Thanks. If you go to my channel (I promise, I'm not shamelessly plugging myself, just offering a comparison), every video dating back to February of 2015 was recorded with the AKG c214s. Every video before then was recorded with my guitar center branded $100 mic pair. The c214s don't don't sound bad, but I just can't tell much of quality difference. They cost 7x ($700) more than the cheap mics, but they definitely don't deliver 7x the sound quality.

    Great review. Recommendation...
    > “For spoken word, this microphone sounds a bit too too heavy.”
    > cuts to clip speaking into preferred microphone
    > “For my ears, this is the optimal mic sound for spoken word.”

    I think you should revisit this wonderful sounding mic. I actually in most cases prefer it to the TLM103. It’s basically a cardioid only version of the C414XLII and you actually sound really nice on it . Maybe now that you have more experience and have reviewed more products, there’s probably a good chance you’d appreciate it more.

    I've used a stereo pair for 4 years now. Overall a very balanced sounding tone although I often find the high end to be a little bit brittle which is probably caused by a "fake" build-in high boost.

    I bought 2 C214s and 1 C414 XLS II. I had a C214 in the past and was unimpressed but gave it another chance. I was thrilled that it did such a great job recording my electric guitar with some dirt on it. It was pretty good on my acoustic guitar too. I don't use it on vocal so I can't address your 'metalic' comments. But on electric guitar it didn't seem to have the high frequency issues you're talking about. The C414 appear to add some high end so I actually like that C214 more on my amp. I've learned to appreciate the flat response of some mics like this and the KSM33. I tried it on my bass guitar amp and it did well on the lower end. But didn't have much definition in the high end. Actually, my P220 did better in that regard even if it didn't pick up as much lower end. I could hear the detail of my fingers plucking the strings on the P220 but missed that definition on the C214. I ultimately chose the C214 over several options including the SM57, I5, and E906 dynamic mics. I'm guessing it fit my P90 pickups and cleared some things up without having to EQ much. So in conclusion, my tests were different and so were my conclusions. I appreciate your videos. I end up using only about half of the mics I buy and end up selling the others that don't work out. Right now I've kept the C214 (and the C414 XLS II, TLM103 for drum over head, and MD421 on my bass cabinet). I've got a dozen other mikes too but this fits my rock type setup with drums, bass and guitar. The C214 is a keeper this time around. The other C214 may find some use but for now one is staying on my electric guitar amp.

    Great video and very helpful! Thank you but I disagree with the review because Akg are known for their microphones having lots of high end that's thier selling point and as this is the microphone down from the c414 it makes sense, like RnB tenor singers like this mic because of the high end. So it depends every microphone has it"s different uses, in your review I would put in a counter-argument and say why a microphone could be good as well. It also would have been nice to see the mic amped up.

    On the bright side of the negative side; this microphone actually taught me how to better handle sibilance and plosives while singing (bc it REALLY does enhance both those issues unlike other mics I’ve heard).
    I do love the tone and realism of the mic, but granted it has what I would call a STEEP learning curve (so if you’re buying it to record others it’s definitely not the best choice, and but even for ourself; there maybe better mics in the ballpark price)..

    my pros (having owned the mic)- very nice sounding mic, especially for vocals
    cons- absolutely can accentuate sibilance in certain voices (see frequency curve)
    - very sensitive mice ("hot")- might not be the best fora noise home studio environment
    - plastic shock-mount expensive to replace..is not robust

    I thought, that this mic is a bit expensive for its results. I can get banned to oblivion and back, but i think, that NT1(A) can give at least the same results as this one. And if you get to the high-end condenser mics, they are much better sounding, than this one. So I would agree, that it's not worth it.

    I saw a review of this microphone on another channel where they had two readers read the same text. They also tested to other microphones, but for this microphone with one of the readers, who had somewhat of a dark voice, it was amazing, for the other reader there wasn't that much of a difference between this and the two other microphones. So I think it has a great effect on certain kinds of voices. For me that like to be close to it and talk in somewhat of a low voice until I start yelling (at the game I play), it might be a good choice. Not sure really. I've been looking at the Røde NT1 and Blue Baby Bottle as well. Do you have any thoughts about these microphones?

    In a music recording session you have to be aware that this mic shouldn´t be the only one you´re using. Because - if you would use it for every track this boost would be maximized as it would be on every track you record and that would be a very unpleasant sound. So this is a special mic that you should only buy if you had various other, more neutral mics.

    Hey Bandrew! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Have you had the chance to try the new Rode Podmic? Here, we have to wait a little longer, due to import policies. Many people (including me) would love to hear a comparison or vs series between the podmic and Procaster. Also, more researched, I think you could do a vs series between the condenser Broadcaster and dynamic Procaster, since when one is looking for any of them, generally they look after the other one. Remember Travis from "podcastmic" used to say: "you can get from the Procaster 80% out of you can get from the Broadcaster". I'd like to hear your opinion about that statement, since after testing both of them, I completely agree.

    Good entertainment. I wonder, with what results you would come up with, if you ever gonna do a review on your mikes again another time. Would they be the same?

    Hello Brother, I think this guy sounds awesome on your voice, but maybe you didn’t like it and you have your own reasons for it, the sibilance is an issue, so are the highs but overall I think the sound is polished and usable for voiceovers or even podcasting, however this seems an overkill for podcasting

    Hello, thanks for your review. I was waiting for it. Would it be possible to receive somes Large condenser references of Mics with low sibilance and pops and not very sensible at the acoustic of the room ? thanks

    And ... I own several of each 214s and 414s ... I do use the 414s on distance micing sometimes, especially if i need figure-8 pattern. For a true figure 8 for M-S or Blumlein recording, you really need a single diaphragm microphone like a symmetrical ribbon (sE Voodo) or the Schoeps condenser.

    I came just to see you throw the box and there was no box throw. There was no damn sticker either. Why I'm I watching this? It's because Bandrew is awesome.

    My first thought was that it sounded 'scooped'. You later said 'v-shaped'. I guess that's the same thing. I don't know what it costs, but obviously there's better choices for the money.

    isn't the breathy sound exactly what most singers are looking for? And also the bright high frequencies?

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  Рік тому +2

      If someone wants that super bright breathy sound, then they may like it. That's why I include all the samples and do not just describe it and say "trust me". I want people to hear the sound that is being recorded and be able to make up their own mind on what they think and then agree or disagree with me.

    Hey friend, do you have a recommendation or favorite choice for a similarly priced microphone? I was also turned off by the metallic/shrillness, but hunting for something with similar presence. Ive been using the Shure SM7 religiously for years, but ready to try to jump back into condensers. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks bud!

    Hi! I want to buy a microphone, but i’m very undecided. Now i have Akg C214 but in the high frequenci is very disturbing.. it’s my opinion. What do you recommend me? Blue or Rode or Newmann? I want heading to Bluebird or Baby Bottle, but i don’t know.Thank you so much! 🙂

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  5 років тому +1

      That's difficult. I love the Rode NT1, I love Blue Baby Bottle, I love the Neumann TLM102 and TLM103. I would also suggest checking out the sE Electronics sE4400a. I know it's not what you want to hear but it does come down to personal preference.

    I agree with a lot of what your review has to say about this microphone. I'm a young singer-songwriter who owns the mic and have the question, what would you do with regard to vocal production to mitigate the negative effects of this microphone?

    • @dancnkc
      @dancnkc 2 місяці тому

      Compression and EQ. This is a close proximity mic. You get the lower end sound quality when the mic is right up the sound source whether it be a vacalist, guitar, drum or amp.
