    I remember Sybil being the big thing regarding DID, and then it all came out as fake. This disorder has been used for so many ill intentions that it’s pretty stigmatized in the psychiatric community

    • @jenniferk9242
      @jenniferk9242 Місяць тому

      As it should be. There were a literal handful of cases until Sybil, and then they all came crawling out of the woodwork and there were enough cases to include it in the DSM. The rise in cases wasn't due to better diagnostics, it was due to outright fakers and professionals wanting to get in on the new hot disorder. I've read enough dissenting studies and opinions to remain firm in my belief that, aside from a few extremely rare cases, this is an entirely manufactured disorder.

      most people go their entire lives without even knowing they have DID, being a mental illness that is only diagnosed in 1.5% of the population. they argue mental illness are on a spectrum, i can get on board with that. what i cant get on board with is every person claiming to have DID on ticktok having symptoms that would be considered the maximum side of that spectrum. if so many people fall through the crack of the healthcare system, while also claiming their symptoms are so batshit crazy but also functioning as an abled bodied citizen, which is it? 😂

    Edit: The following is sarcasm in response to DID fakers who proport dozens of personalities. It’s understood that those who actually are afflicted have difficulty sustaining employment.
    Back to levity:
    It's astonishing that all these people have multiple personalities, yet not a single personality is a contributing member of society. Statistically speaking, you'd think at least one would have a job.

      i often wonder if alters can present differently in the body; most of my experiences with a DID individual presented as very fragmented, not quite "aware" in the way the host is but able to grasp basic consciousness. i hope that makes sense, i'm only an outside observer

    • @Hezabelle77
      @Hezabelle77 Місяць тому +3

      @@torimbfs Right?! Imagine how awesome it would be to have aspirations to be an actress and suddenly just wake up in front of a typewriter that alter Susan had just used to finish her novel, only to then black out while alter Gregory, who freelances as an editor, converts it to a movie script that alter Max, the producer, immediately casts you as lead.

    • @Hezabelle77
      @Hezabelle77 Місяць тому +3

      @peanutbrittle I hope I understood enough for this response to make sense.
      In actual cases of DID, the whole purpose of an alter is to take over the Host's stream of consciousness in order to protect it from whatever stressed them to the point of needing protection. If the Host maintains awareness while an alter is 'out', it defeats the entire existence of the alter. That's why these fakers are so ludicrous. If you have enough mental control to just randomly pick a personality, then it's not DID.

    There's a reason you're supposed to back away from a situation when you're feeling super emotional- people make reactive decisions in the moment if their emotions get the best of them... like make tiktoks of themselves having a DID alter breakdown. theres people ALWAYS forget the amnesia that is part of DID. I don't have it so of course i don't know how it affects someone personally, but these "switches" always seem to happen so "easy" without triggers or amnesia or panic... moreover, the amnesia would mean that a DID patient might not even know they have alters, let alone names/stats/ages/ interests. its not sims4, its a serious life affecting disorder. tiktok filters and cosplay does not a mental illness make.

    Professional diagnoses mean nothing now. People like this have researched their preferred mental health disorders to death and know exactly what to say when seeking an official diagnosis. Same thing with the rise in adult autism diagnoses. People desperate to have something "wrong" with them, so they can receive attention and praise for how they've risen above their challenges.

    • @sadiej2057
      @sadiej2057 Місяць тому

      I agree wit part of what ur saying. Ppl will lie to get a diagnosis their set on even if they don't have it but most these ppl haven't gone to a professional and just claim to have it. Also the rise in adult autism (if ur going by statistics and not ppl on tiktok) is because there has been more research on autism so adults who do have autism most likely were not diagnosed when they were young bc there was not enough research about the disorder. But also statistics are never %100 accurate

    • @liz090833
      @liz090833 23 години тому

      They know exactly what to say! But at first when people started getting the adult autism diagnosis, I was really inspired. I thought that was amazing! I have always felt different growing up was hard & as a 39/f- I don't have the courage to go get a diagnosis, so I was really proud of the people who were doing that. But now it's everywhere, everyone has something, like you said! It's mildly irritating and doesn't really affect me, but it's a symptom of a sick culture. What's ironic is that most of these people are, in fact, SERIOUSLY mentally ill! Get your delusional disorder diagnosed instead! You're still batt shit crazy, why does it have to be *that brand of crazy? They have their own! 😂❤ is it just me???

    Therapy is NOT for everyone- however, you do need to go a few times at least to be sure. There IS a thing called “Therapy Resistance,” and it’s not that they’re “resisting” therapy (some are- but it can be more than simply not wanting to go), and it’s basically when the patient has little to no response to therapy. Like it’s just not working for them.
    This is either due to the fact that their therapists weren’t properly trained or aren’t really qualified to do the job given to them (meaning they don’t understand you, basically), or for other reasons like the person not being able to get out of the environment that’s keeping them sick, so they aren’t getting better. Things like that.
    It’s important to at least TRY therapy if you need it. Get your diagnosis, go through the motions like it’s a school class, and then if later on down the road you find therapy isn’t working, there are alternatives. The alternatives are what get me by, as I’m technically treatment resistant. Not cause I don’t wanna go, but it’s hard to find a qualified therapist for a person with BPD (my diagnosis) that one feels comfortable with, and the normal coping mechanisms don’t work for me, so I made my own that work.
    Just recently decided to go back and try again and so far so good… but don’t feel bad if your therapy is taking too long or you struggle because it’s uncomfortable or think that no one understands. They do (some more than others). Sometimes it’s hard to believe that. I was told by my new therapists that I was actually very well held together for someone like me- that actually made me pretty happy to hear. Sometimes you find people that don’t seem like they really wanna help you… but when you do, you’ll FEEL it. I finally found some people who I FEEL care about what I’m going through.
    Just. Keep. Trying. Therapy or no therapy. But get diagnosed professionally at the very least. ❤

    I would love to know how every single alter knows how to act/what to say with the camera. Do you leave instructions around? how did that alter know he/she/they had to do their video? do they spend 30+ m to change, do make-up, hair etc before or they got lucky and the host did it for them? How does everyone in that system know about DID and it's ok to be on camera? I am sorry but I can't coordinate with myself to do something without getting sidetracked on something else, let alone if my life was a "please don't switch" while working on stuff, last thing I would want too is to put my alter in a hard place by forcing videos for money out of a trauma that they remember I don't. They are using DID as a fun new toy to show online and it's horrible if that is really what they are doing. If not, I am really confused on how they are acting and what they are saying (as a system). It’s good seeing you talk more sensitively with more reference to research about these things. Like with any largely covert disorder, DID is almost certainly under-diagnosed, but will not be more common than the prolonged extreme early childhood trauma that causes it. There is going to be a lot more we can learn about DID and similar disorders through research of course, but better social support and therapy services for vulnerable children and adults should be the first priority because it can help people who are still struggling and may need a serious mental health diagnosis in the future to get out of situations that are actively harmful and onto the road to feeling better and accessing specialised supports.

    • @TSUYOMIchan
      @TSUYOMIchan 26 днів тому

      I should add that medical and neurological checkups should be a part of screening and therapy for most people with DID. I say this as the partner, carer and friend of people with DID, who sees them struggle with fainting disorders, switching headaches, extreme sleep disturbances and a number of other debilitating neurological symptoms that go unaddressed and untreated because they are not an area of knowledge for psychiatrists or psychologists.

      The older generation know it as multiple personalities. There was a book & then a movie in the late 70's early 80's about a woman named Cibil who had I think 7 personalities & the movie detailing the abuse she went thru that caused that to happen. This younger generation wouldn't be so eager to fake it if they knew that everyone knew what caused it.

    Though I do think self diagnosis is a stepping stone to getting an actual diagnosis, but if you're not diagnosed don't claim you have it?? You can say you *suspect* that you have it but don't sit there giving advice if you're not diagnosed because there's always a chance that you're WRONG 😭 (unless you're talking about your own experiences ig but you get my point hopefully)

    • @JustAFace_InTheCrowd

      Because nothing is “magical” about BPD. I have BPD, it just makes everyone think you’re a terrible human being. Literally. It’s like being so socially awkward due to extreme trauma that you’re angry and depressed about it lol. Very hard to make that look very good unless you want to be the next Cash Me Outside girl….. And as much as people probably think I do- I 200% do not.
      Now DID? People think it’s this magical fairyland where you’re never alone and you have this magic home in your head that you can hide in that is beautiful and safe, filled with all different friends from animals to kids, to adults and even inanimate objects…….. See where I’m going? That’s not what DID is at all btw.
      It’s more like… having an MMO account, and you have different characters to play, but when you’re in the middle of battling a boss, suddenly you get DC’d from your cleric and you log back in as your tank cause your cleric couldn’t take it…. But you had no control over the character you get to pick, and you forget about the DC each time.
      (Those abbreviations are video game references if you don’t catch the meaning. MMO’s are online games, DC means disconnected- like when your internet crashes. That’s how I see DID, and I think it’s the most accurate way to explain it using non-scientific methods. I am not a professional, but I do know some stuff from college.)

    i dont have tiktok but i keep seeing youtube videos calling out people faking mental health disorders and even physical disorders on tiktok.
    as someone who has struggled with mental health disorders since they were very young (i was diagnosed with adhd, and anxiety at the age of 3) and i am possibly on the spectrum but until im fully diagnosed i will not say that i am.
    it really just pisses me off seeing people faking mental health disorders like...
    people with mental or physical disorders are not having fun, shit sucks for us and it is hard for us to be taken seriously as it is and now we have dumb tiktokers making it even harder for those of us with actual disorders with all their faking crap.
    our disorders are not some quirky and cute aesthetic that you can fake anf use to gain attention. we suffer everyday and almost a majority of the time there is no cure for our disorders.

      Seeing my own father push his own kids away, get violent and harm himself and my grandparents was horrible.
      Then he stops doing drugs and everything chills out and i go to therapy for that being one of the reasons, then seeing shit like THIS??? Wild. Absoloutly insane.

      @@MenInSkirts_official I’m so sorry you had to experience that but very glad to hear that he was able to get help. As for the subject of this video, it’s incredibly obvious to me that they don’t have any experience with substance abuse from a firsthand or even secondhand perspective. Their videos discussing their use reek of an adolescent trying desperately to appear cool and dangerous and the ones of him “using” off camera are even more laughable. I hope one day he comes to his senses and is so embarrassed by his digital footprint he can hardly stand it.

    I always find it extremely weird that someone can claim to have D.I.D, no therapy, and claim to have a perfect memory of growing up.
    Any memory of our childhood is merely a flashback or revealed to us in a dream, cause honestly, my waking self can't handle the extreme trauma that arrives with such memories. And even then, those memories aren't(and are) happening to me, which causes alot of confusion and hella shame.
    The mere idea that this man can remember his childhood, while having a disorder that basically hinders such things (less with proper therapy), is another reason why I am often afraid to tell anyone close to me about this, cause I don't want to be associated with these type...
    Our disorder is not a show, trend or quirky, it is a Hellscape of Nightmares, and Disruption to Any Future you might have once held for yourself.
    (Not saying people like myself can't have a productive future, but it won't be as normal as we would want it, or as thriving as we might hope, cause D.I.D doesn't go away.)

    As someone who is so old I was diagnosed with DID when it was referred to as multiple personality disorder. My DID might be different than 2024 DID but I have no names for my alters due the fact I have no knowledge when I switch. I lose time and memory, my kids are the ones who if present will inform me after the fact of the switch and they have jokingly named my most common alters as a way to cope themselves. There is no switching on and off at command trust me for those of us who truly have this disorder only wish it was that easy! I would not be locked in my house afraid to even be around my own family that know ive dealt with this disorder longer than some of these kids on Tiktok who say they have it while cosplaying in their rooms naming their 39 "alters" all after their favorite chartoon characters, where even a thought in their dads balls! This is nothing to glorify nor fake for views. Self diagnoses only exists when a person seeks attention or wants to feel like they are part of the new trending disorder... they need to see the sun

  • @Aethysbananarama
    @Aethysbananarama Місяць тому

    Jaffa cakes are awesome, but even those who are trying to educate as a diagnosed system hop onto the trend train and make bank on it. It doesn't really help the credibility.
    I do believe DID exist but 99% of people online legit just make it up. Especially when they come up with the fictive anime alters, actual animal alters, having no trauma... the same switching head drop... and most of all the parading around pronouns, nouns and triggers.
    Yeah here is a programm menu to make a new alter... for real.
    The system I know/meet in hospital settings don't want you to know they are multiple and I can count them on one hand in the past 25 years.

    I feel like a lot of these kids are legit developing psychosis and it's disturbing. Psychosis is strengthened by insular groups all sharing the delusion so it's kinda frightening. There are people obviously just playing pretend but I have seen a lot that seem to fit bpd or bipolar from their descriptions. Which also is sad because that means they aren't getting help and are only making their symptoms worse by buying into this strange shared delusion.
