    I am a nurse, I deal with DID... None of this is a DID characteristic. However, if you do claim a disease you do not have; that is a form of clinical narcissism. So either way, seek help soon. If you or some one you love is depressed or feeling suicidal, just dial 998. My last patient identified as 5 people. One ultimately starved the others out. DID is NOT a joke! Stop pretending that you have a disease that can ultimately kill a person! We NEVER use terms like alters or protectors unless we are making personal notes to denote personality type. We NEVER tell a patient that one personality is higher than the other!

      I would agree about the clinical narcissism or maybe even other diagnoses for somebody who claims to have a mental illness if it weren't for the fact that they are on TikTok. I think the majority of these people do it for the money and attention. Attention seeking is narcissistic behavior, but I don't necessarily think all these people are narcissists. One dangerous thing about these DID fakers is that they emphasise their "alters" being completely different characters. Yes, in people with DID alters can seem as though they're very different people in one body, but part of the therapy for DID is creating a connection between those alters and attempting to create a whole personality which fuses those different alters instead of them behaving independently. The therapy also involves helping the sufferer tolerate triggers and face them without switching. These fakers literally encourage the opposite of that.

      That is a very legitimate problem to discuss. It's common for alters to have varying ages and act accordingly but there is also a thing called system accountability where the whole system has to be held accountable for harming other people. As a healthy system you cannot commit a crime and blame it on one alter and expect there to be no consequences. If the A system ever does a crime, the whole system is accountable.

    I'm autistic. I was diagnosed the traditional way -- you know, through medical doctors and psychologists. I recently made a trip to see my mother (she lives where I used to live, but I moved to a different state with my wife to be close to her parents, who at the time were experiencing health problems) and I visited with an old friend and her husband (also an old friend). As we chatted, she casually told me that she's autistic. I was taken aback, because I've known her for over 30 years and this is the first time the topic has ever been raised. I asked her how she found out, and she told me it was a combination of Google searches and watching...TikTok videos. Well, it was TikTok videos posted to Instagram. I knew instantly what sort of videos she was talking about. I didn't want to argue with her or make a scene, so I kind of smiled and nodded but I was pretty upset. It just feels wrong. I can't quantify why. There's nothing wrong with watching videos and thinking maybe you have symptoms, and then going to your doctor and asking if those symptoms are in line with the disease or condition, but just relying on random people on social media as a source of a diagnosis who aren't medical professionals can be potentially dangerous, depending on the condition. I think what I'm feeling about it is that it diminishes my experiences and what I've gone through, just to say that now a person has the same condition because they watched some videos.

      This is one of the reasons I'm scared to suspect if I'm autistic or not, i did see videos on tik tok, and I also did my own research to fully understand some things, but I want to get an assessment to see so I am able to know that's what's going on. I've been diagnosed with ADHD and I know that sometimes there can be an overlap with autism, and that is what I want to find out, whenever I get the assessment of whether I am or not, that's ok, I just want to understand my mind more and have an explanation for the things that aren't really ADHD but it's not "normal" either.

      I have an autoimmune neurological disorder and I absolutely get where you’re coming from. I’ve had so many people tell me they have x disease because Google told them so. My method of dealing with it is to immediately ask in a very polite way what doctor do they go to. If they are legitimately diagnosed they are happy to share or if they truly want help they are interested in discussing what they can do and are doing. The ones that are just interested in the attention normally drop it and change the conversation. It gets the point across in a completely non confrontational manner. It can be so frustrating and demoralizing.

Takes a while to get past, it's been years now since my diagnosis for a functional movement disorder and I still doubt myself sometimes. Don't pay doctors like that any mind, as there are many ER doctors that were taught like GP's but for emergency care. Your neurologist would know best because that is their specialty. If you worry that you could somehow be faking it without knowing you are, that's a great sign that you aren't faking it at all. from what I understand D.I.D actually develops in childhood usually due to severe repeated abuse , trauma. A young developing mind trying to protect itself during severe abuse. You may have heard survivors of childhood abuse talking about leaving their body etc… the disorder is self protection and is the reason for amnesia and memory loss. ‘Switching’ away from a traumatic event etc The reason for later diagnosis I think is down to the fact that even a few decades ago abuse wasn’t detected as often. So many young people can go years not even knowing what is happening with them, not until they have had years of mental health issues they finally get diagnosed. Abuse is often hidden, many people don’t even talk about things like that until later in life. So I assume that is why diagnosis is usually in 30’s. It’s just such a sad disorder for anyone dealing with it. If we could find all children dealing with extreme trauma young enough to help them and get them mental health maybe this disorder could be prevented. Sadly many young people do not escape abuse until they are old enough to leave home etc… 😢

    I am a type 2 bipolar, been on meds for years. It nearly caused my wife to leave with my kids. It causes deep guilt when the rage hits. There has never been a time where I've been filming a tiktok that it has spiked. And if I WAS, I assure you that shit would never see the light of day...because it isn't something I'm proud of. It isnt something I want to share with the world.

I have DID, I don't switch often but I could ask an alter to switch, in fact I have for an interview in a paper that will be published later on this year. I accept that DID is a part of my life and I feel neither shame nor pride. It is the same as anything else for me. I feel disgusted by someone using a disorder (real or not I don't care) for clout, and violated because this is a disorder *I have* and have already struggled enough trying to prove it to family and friends without having someone use it for money but I do think it is reasonable to say it can be caught on camera

    Little lesson on DID as a person who prior suffered dissociative fugue (informal DID diagnosis years after resolution of symptoms i.e. I got better because I got out of the abuse and became more aware that I randomly disappeared) and who is studying for their grad. Degree in psych and soc- 100 switches is insane and in the time frame shown between switches, he would not be so calm or well structured in the representation, nor should he have the cross awareness in a full switch state to understand fully what is going on even if this switching is at will (at will switching is actually a thing in the disorder but more complex and timely then displayed). In most research where people fully confirmed and assessed multiple times to confirm the diagnosis during the process of the research, the interviews and psychotherapy where specific triggers for switching are addressed (discussing or having trauma brought up) over 4 hour period where the whole goal IS to trigger switching, the average amount of time 1 DID patient switches is 5.8 times. This only occurs during the stressful portions (some of the research actually reads like bullying a participant to force the switch)
    In phenomenological analysis of the confirmation of true vs False-positive DID diagnosis vs personality disorder, there are across the board key indicators of malingering vs true DID where the patients malingering all show 5 main themes: 1) the disorder becomes their main focus of self-identity, 2) The disorder becomes their way justifing different ego-states and the confusion or conflicting ideals or emotions the nuance of human cognition and self-discovery can cause, 3) the identified symptoms and objective/subjective assessments gets better (they check more boxes for having the disorder) the more educated on the disorder they become/are, 4) The disorder/its symptoms is the main focus of discussion with others and last but most relavent 5) telling them clinically that they don't have DID leads them to be disappointed and/or angry with clinical care providers with a high likelihood that the person will dismiss all care givers that don't follow the narrative the patient wants. Typically going as far as to say all care providers are incorrect (even specialized providers in the disorder) vs continuous treatment or 2nd opinions to find the underlying cause of the symptomolgy. (Please use Google scholar and sort for research from 2020 to present for further confirmation of this information if you want to further educate)
    Mental health and those that fake specific disorders are on the top of my list for things I will never not write novel long comments on. It's harmful to those with disorders to see this representation, it's harmful to the public perception of the disorder to have this be the representation, and it doesn't allow the faker to get to the root cause of their need to be malingering and treat or help heal whatever their true underlying issue may be.

      I completely agree. There is a lot about the A system that strikes me as odd (I have gone through the medical route of getting a diagnosis for DID) but I think that the video also has a lot of misinformation in it. Positive switches are absolutely a thing and can be perfectly healthy I agree that 100 switches in a day is unbelievable. I can go weeks without a switch or on really switchy trauma days I have around 10. I normally stay off faking DID videos because there's so much misinformation on both sides of the video and I'm terrified of being called a faker or being yelled at when I try to inform people in the comments. I really appreciate your comment and I can agree, especially the switches for donations seems so crazy and fetishizing. It freaks me out I'm ngl.

    I do want to bring up that symptoms are not just most prevalent from ages 5-10. DID forms from childhood trauma, so it FORMS in childhood. It is a lifelong disorder and many times it is not discovered until adulthood, because DID is a often covert disorder. For 90% of people it's not obvious to an outside. This is because it forms from trauma. According to the theory of structural dissociation, one of the more widely accepted theories, it's believes that nobody is born with a fully integrated personality. Instead, there's separate ego states for individual needs. Over time, as the child grows, the personality develops more and is believes to integrate, typically by the ages of 6-9. When severe and repeated childhood trauma occurs, often paired with a disorganized attachment styles with parent/primary caregiver, these states are unable to full integrate. These unintegrated states are what becomes alters.
    So, a child is going through some sort of trauma, often some type of abuse. While this is going on, they also need to do school, hopefully have friends, make sure basic needs are met. All of this while also trying to survive a terrible situation. There may be a different alter for different things. This is also when there is often less self awareness of alters. It's often found in adulthood and dissociative symptoms may increase of lessen with time.
    "The full disorder may first manifest at almost any age (from earliest childhood to late life).... "Older
    individuals may present to treatment with what appear to be late-life mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, paranoia, psychotic mood disorders, or even cognitive disorders due to dissociative amnesia. In some cases, disruptive affects and memories mayincreasingly intrude into awareness with advancing age. " (Quotes from the DSM 5 section on DID)

    I'm diagnosed with DID and in treatment for it. I genuinely have no idea how one would be able to boast about switching so much. I cant wrap my head around "100". I once had a day so painful where i rapidly switched 10+ times due to a trigger. my body and mind looking for the proper part to switch in as if it was a roulette. it was exhausting and i was crying at the end of it begging and praying for it to stop. it's not fucking fun and i am so sick of seeing it be portrayed otherwise. on a normal day, probably 2-3 parts front. i can't tell i have switched, most of the time, until after I've done so!! it's really subtle most of the time, unless it's a sloooowww switch. which for me feels like I'm just stuck in really horrible derealization and walk and do things on autopilot and am slow to respond to things, until i "snap to consciousness/ wake up" and the switch has been completed. the amount of misinformation is staggering. i don't bother looking for solidarity online anymore.

    A thing that I often notice when seeing another "meet the alters" video is, the mentioning of their roles. The terms of "primary protector", "gatekeeper" and such are getting thrown around alot and we are constantly seeing alters introducing themselves with their respective role within their system. These roles however seem to be terms that psychologists use while describing the phenomenon that is DID. When an alter first fronts though, I assume they are hardly aware of their purpose or that they are even part of a system at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt that an alter would be able to come to that conclusion without professional help, let alone recognize their role in the system. So what I am wondering is if a person with DID that went undiagnosed would even be capable of establishing such a vivid exchange between their alters without a proper mediator.

    • @EliasBeeker
      @EliasBeeker 2 місяці тому +3

      While I do find "meet the alter" videos to be strange and fetishizing, the use of roles in this way is quite common. Systems are so vastly different from each other that everyone's experience is different. Personally, my alters weren't aware of themselves for quite a while but they always knew where they were, who I was and who everyone else was. I don't have strong amnesia barriers anymore (two years of therapy helps lol) but there's a lot that can be understood and realized on your own. I have one alter who when she first fronted said "I was created to protect the host, I remember what they cannot survive remembering. This is my purpose and this is why I was created." dramatic little shit I know but everyone's alters are different and there's little to no end on how those individual experiences can go

    • @sadlittleratboy
      @sadlittleratboy 20 днів тому

      @@EliasBeeker While it is true that people have these experiences, you as someone with DID also must know that a lot of people with DID don't know the roles of all of their altars, that alters sometimes have more than one role or seem to have no role at all, and that you really couldn't know any of that without therapy. I mean I doubt you got to this point without professional help. I think what most of this comment is trying to say is that there would be pretty much no way for him to know all of this if he weren't currently in some form of care

    I actually used to be friends with someone who’s one of the only genuinely documented cases of DID where his other personality had a different gender. It caused him a hell of a lot of stress, especially since the female personality inside him had pretty bad gender dysphoria from being stuck in a male body. He ended up having to do a lot of specialized therapy to help suppress his other personality so triggers wouldn’t effect him to the point of her coming out. He also was constantly in demand for studies on his disorder and there’s more then one published scientific paper about him specifically

    Although im very late i believe i have something meaningful to add to this discussion. I have a fractured psyche, which is the precursor of DID. I have multiple inner monologues, but i don't have gaps in my memory because i dont truly switch. I cant control or summon the other monologues at all.
    My fractured psyche is a result of severe, continuous childhood trauma that caused me to develop CPTSD. I did intensive therapy & my CPTSD is in remission.
    Most of my issues with my fractured psyche happen when im extremely stressed because i use it as a way to self soothe. Again to be very clear, I have zero say in when it happens.

    DID isnt the only multiple personality disorder out there guys choose a new one at least
    the "forcing switches" you can't really "force a switch" unless actual there is distress and the front alter needs to leave the situation which is sorta the whole reason it formed in the first place (?? correct me if im wrong, even I get stuff wrong) While on the topic of switching, all system's switches are different but 100 switches a day is not healthy. Especially with the example showed (1:00 pm "alter 1" switching to "alter 2" in four minutes should be a world record) When I dissociate, it takes a while for me to be aware of my surroundings and try to figure out if it was an actual switch or not.

    D.I.D stems from extreme trauma, many youngsters that experienced abuse will talk about leaving their body while abuse occurs … so imagine a child repeatedly experiencing trauma. This disorder can occur when a child’s brain at a young age disassociates to cope with what is happening to help them block out the event occurring. This can then develop into an ongoing disorder as they grow and develop personality. This is why amnesia is part of the so called ‘Switch’ when the persons mind switches off and they try to cope with trauma or a trigger. A young person can suffer with this disorder for a long time and not realise what is occurring. It’s a defence mechanism to protect a mind from dealing with awful situations…..definitely not a fun thing to Cos play. Wish they would just say it’s cos playing and not put out misleading information for such a tragic disorder. Wish all the best to anyone that has experienced any kind of trauma and hope you have gotten all the help needed to deal with it 🙏🏻

    As someone who JUST got diagnosed with DID… it’s not just an easy diagnosis. You take a test that has over 200 questions, they explain how to take the test. They ask you the questions, and you answer. I got diagnosed with it a few days ago.. and I’m still trying to process because I thought I was just ME my entire life with added mental issues. I’m 20, and finding out that I’ve been showcasing symptoms since I was little, it’s baffling. It’s a new step in my life and honestly.. it’s pretty scary. It’s not “ooohh I have DID, omg I have X amount of alters.” NO!! it’s a shit ton of therapy, finding your inner child because believe it or not.. most DID diagnosed humans.. have a locked inner child that has been hurt. Then you have protectors who come out to protect you whether you realize it or not. You do lose gaps in memory, it feels like you’re asleep but still conscious. Alters are made with heavily traumatic scenarios, being created to protect your mental state as best as possible. You can’t just say you have alters and name them, if you have DID.. they come to you. And it’s intense therapy to figure out who your alters are. Or as my therapist calls them, “parts”. Also it doesn’t just have to be something traumatic or triggering for them to pop out, my counselor told me he had a DID patient before me, and her inner child popped out randomly to just say hi. You can’t exactly switch on demand, you can’t tell your alters to come out. They come out on their own or for instance if you do have DID, and your in a stressful situation, your protector could pop out and take over to protect you. These are all topics I’ve asked and talked about with my counselor because I’m still learning about this new diagnosis.

    Quick thing, DID forms before the age of 9, but people dont get diagnosed usually until early adulthood when the person is in a safer situation than in which they grew up. So late teens and early adults are definitely the demographic that would be getting diagnosed finally. The disorder becomes more presentive when the brain recognizes the individual is in a safer environment. It actually wouldnt make s3nse for young kids or young teens to understand they have DID or for people to spot it because it is a very covert disorder

    Most people with diagnosed DID struggle to understand their surroundings after switching, and switching isn't something you can physically. Normally DID is diagnosed from people having giant gaps in time missing from their memory. Lots of people with DID have to leave themselves notes around the house to remember things they did previous or things they have to do when they aren't themselves.

    Someone with DID here. Just want to answer a few questions that you've asked throughout this video.
    1. There are things known as positive triggers. These are things that certain alters like, or maybe identify with. So switching due to a song coming on isn't impossible just highly unlikely. Positive switches I've experienced were all where we were in a safe place, and when we were feeling dissociated already.
    2. Time loss and amnesia. Usually when one of the alters that cares about the body and the rest of us fronts, they will leave notes as to what they were doing, how long they were out and if there was anything that needed to get done. However this is rare due to the majority of them not knowing they're an "alter" or just forgetting/not caring/or busy freaking out. Also it is possible to remember if multiple alters were "present". Like there but in control if that makes sense. Then all the alters "present" would remember. Also given how they are connected sometimes memories that aren't traumatic can bleed through or be dreamt of. Which is a pain cause it causes more dissociation due to not being able to know what is real or not.
    3. Littles aren't clueless. At least some aren't. Yes they are mentally one age but some have been around for years. After years of being around they are likely to pick up things like texting. Social media however is fairly unlikely due to them not wanting to be seen and locked behind a password they wouldn't know. Also given the memory lapse it would be terrifying for them. Usually they text a trusted friend or our therapist for what to do. Or they crawl into our bed and stay there for who knows how long before switching out again due to the stress of not knowing what was happening.
    DID exists to protect and at the end of the day to be invisible. The only people that know about our diagnosis are my best friend who knows us well enough to notice the switches and our therapist. Due to the increasing existence of these "fakers" we are less likely to say anything to anyone as we have heard our friends say that they don't believe it is real and that hurts. Genuinely. Not only do people in our lives no longer believe in the existence of the disorder, we have had multiple times where we start to think oh maybe we are lying to ourselves and we don't have it. I did not want to have this disorder. I did not ask for the scars on my body that were created without my knowledge but inflicted by one of us. I did not ask for the 11 suicide attempts that were done without permission or knowledge. I did not ask for not knowing the majority of my life. I did not ask to not being able to live a normal life. There is much to learn about this disorder and not every person with it will experience the same things. Some alters are fairly different compared to these "fakers" as not all of them have names and a solid "identity". Some are emotions that have disconnected due to feeling from a young age that we weren't allowed to feel. We are apart of one being that has been fragmented over and over again due to circumstances we did not ask for. Healing DID is by creating a connection and at the end of the day become "whole". That would no be possible if they were completely separate.

    • @brackenrobertson799
      @brackenrobertson799 2 місяці тому +7

      You saying that alters can “watch” what the one fronting does says it all. Thats impossible. The whole reason amnesia is the number one symptom of DID… is because it’s impossible for one brain that to be concious multiple times at the same time. Impossible. Also, your little somehow know how to text? You say they wouldn’t use social media, like a child would know how to log in or even use social media, yet they know how to text and who to text and work a phone.
      Your alters leaving sticky notes? Alters have 0 idea how long the “switch” is going to be nor do they communicate with you. This narrative that your other personalities act like completely different people that are they to help you is crazy. It’s not how it works, not even in the slightest. I’d recommend you learn to educate yourself on a disorder you’re going to try and fake.

      @@brackenrobertson799 This is a disorder that is based around trauma and those identities are formed based around those traumas. Not every person with the disorder will be the same or react the same.
      1. Being present with 2 identities. That was a fairly bad way for me to put it I will admit. However the healing process for this disorder is by integration. When identities integrate so do the memories. Now in that process they don't automatically go boom fusion time it takes time and there's a period where they feel sperate but together. Which leads to the feeling of having more than one identity present.
      2. When I meant child I meant ages 6+. I personally do not believe this body has an identity under that age. Also technology is fairly intuitive nowadays. How would they know who to text? I dunno maybe the name in the contact info?
      3. They can leave sticky notes IF they are aware of the disorder. Which IS possible due to you know maybe waking up and realizing it's been a week. When you lose that much time in your memories you start to question things which then leads to seeking help. Do all of them do it? No.
      Also there are many things still left to be learned about this disorder and there are other types of dissociative disorders which are interesting to read and learn about. OSDD for example can have separate identities without amnesia. Also this disorder is formed to PROTECT in one way or another. The idea that one or two wouldn't want to "help" have a normal life is insane. There are things to be discovered about these disorders and I wish you have a great day.

       plenty of things have been in the DSM over the years that have since been removed or significantly had their criteria altered because scientific documents are moving changing things, people go with the best known theories they have at the time. The theory of people having multiple personalities has been debunked a thousand times over and I wouldn't be surprised if did is removed from the DSM in the coming decades as more research is done. the people claiming this disorder certainly have something going on mentally that they need treatment for, but it's not having 17 different personalities inside of you.

      @@brackenrobertson799That's not true. From what we know DID is fairly rare, but God knows how often people just never find out they have it, or people are misdiagnosed. Saying it's unlikely that you have something or that it's "slim to none" does nothing but cause trouble for people who actually have the illness, because when people think like this they tend to brush everyone off and that's not helping. I get that all the time about shit that I've been diagnosed with, and I get it even more about shit that I'm trying to get diagnosed with. I see it all the time in mental health too, because I work in the field as well. It's very invalidating.
