Robby Layton - "Now we're going to blow tack and static, let that flash off and apply another 14 coats and hand sand between each one." Paul - "It's a rock crawler. We're going to dent it anyway. That's close enough."
Its a rare Sunday when Fab rats is the first to upload. PS my dad would have used both of our heads to knock out the rest of the broken window. You're a great father for editing that part out🤣
If this would have been my Dad the video would have been filmed at the local Hospital saying something like were not sure Mark's gona make it he's in surgury right now having a boot removed from his Nether region.
Paul, gonna say this once, 20 years ago I watched my wife lose her eyesight from a degenerative eye disease, I can't tell you in words the amount of pain and suffering one endures from losing vision. I can tell you, if you have a choice to see tomorrow after you grind a weld or not, choose to see, Paul if you read this and decide to wear glasses like it is your religion, it will have made my wife's experience just a little less painful. Trust me losing your sight is a cliff you fall from not a slope you slide down. I turned wrenches for a living and before I was educated about eye loss suffering, I was just like you, but no more, I have safety glasses EVERYWHERE!!! I still weld, grind, and drill all the time, but I take the walk to get the specs. ps LOVE your channel! You guys Rock!
My brother is an engineer and a few years ago got a piece of metal from a lathe or drill or something in his eye. He had a fairly good chance of losing a fair portion of eyesight, but he was lucky and escaped unscathed. I don't understand why my favourite UA-camrs don't wear glasses or goggles, you're not a tough guy or 'un-woke' by not being smart👍 Sorry to hear about your wife.
Bugs me too, still pisses me off that I had to drive a mate, not once but twice to hospital to get a grinding shard out of his eye, and the idiot still grinds without goggles. Having your eye paralyzed held open then having the splinter taken out did not look fun, but apparently he couldn't get enough of it 😂
There may be secondary reasons to protect one's eyes from metal damage and that is should one need an MRI a diagnostic procedure may be limited because they want to know about past encounters in that regard. Being stubborn about not using seat belts and goggles is foolish.
Sad!!! Have to tell you guys tho it was great to stop by and meet you guys (Paul Ben and Lolly). Was the high light of my trip!! I appreciate you coming out to say hi and take a pic with me! Traci and Mark from Tucson.
Thank you so much for all your posts and my husband watches your episodes all the time. Tomorrow is his birthday and it would mean so much to him if you can take your time to just say happy birthday. His name is Jason and he is an amazing husband and an amazing step father to my children. The world need more man like him. Thank you!!!!
it's been awhile since I've been a teenager but I can imagine Landon and the boys just standing there looking at the broken glass and suddenly time stops, the fighting is over....And then suddenly you realize "oh we're all in trouble".... Plus we got a cool FJ video out of it so good day all around. Lessons were learned and work was done.
As a kid I would throw a rubber ball against the brick garage wall. I'd been told about it but did it anyway. I had a ten foot target wall with a window in the middle of the wall. I can still remember the flight that ball took as it crashed through the window and sent glass into the open window of my dad's car. Needless to say, I had it all cleaned up before I faced the order of the court.
I can imagine, We need to come up with a story quick. We weren't throwing rocks at each other, we were throwing them at the demolition derby car. Paul did good not overreacting. Make them help with the cleanup and repair. I have a brother who is about 18 months younger and we fought and stuck up for one another.
I was at the Great Smokey Mountain Jeep invasion this weekend buying some yellow rope and beer and I swear there was a pitcher of Ben on my beer can. Thank you for your time.
I always taught my kids...you break it, you fix it...you pay for it. It teaches them responsibility, accountability, consequences, knowledge and respect for property. They learnt real quick 😐 Well done Paul 👍
I agree. I follow several channels that are pretty family friendly and it just seems like they are all just good people , not only on camera but off as well i think. I probably curse too much in my personal life and hearing someone else swear doesnt really bother me but when i watch these channels and realize they never curse or really get too raunchy in their banter, it makes me feel like they are going that extra step to ensure they are putting out good content, i like it.
I'm sure paul wasn't happy. But he certainly handled it right..actions have consequences pay for what you damaged. Held accountable lesson learned. Fj looks like its going to be a bit more comfortable :) always a good show !
Oh and those boys would be doing all of the dirty work for at least a month . Decreasing, rust removal , sewer cleaning , you know the good stuff.... That's how I would have done it.
I grew up with, if you broke it you fixed it. That meant you did everything including hauling top too the shop and picking up. No help from anyone. Made you change the way you looked at things ahead of time. Consequences for your actions. That's why we shouldn't be paying off other people's student loans. I always told my kids, don't break what you can't afford to replace. Never had a problem with them destroying things. Great teaching moment.
You’re one hell of a guy and a good dad I love the part where you made him be responsible and pay you back for the windshield in the back window that was priceless. I’m thinking he learned his lesson…
You know he learned a lesson on that one. Those kids are all mostly well behaved. Love to see children being raised the right way. Democrats in DC should take notes.
I can understand why the boys weren't part of the repair video. I would not have wanted to be a party to that when Dad got home. On another note: Huge kudos to Michelle for her excellent video editing work. Top shelf!
You're a patient father. You can bet the boys are squirming, regretting and thinking about what they did and how they wish they hadn't. Glad to see you're making the best of it. Malcolm Ottawa Valley
Great family story. I really appreciate how Paul handled the son's damage to the FJ without violence, abusive actions, or humiliation. The boy learned that everything we do, good or bad, has a cost. Sometimes the cost is monetary, sometimes it can be even worse. But he still has his father's love and care.
My dad exactly- well, I see what you did and why you were annoyed but now you have to pay for it. Hard earned money is way better long term than an arse kicking. Nicely done Paul
OH that hurt. 600 bucks for window damage. Oh man at that age to loose 600 bucks, i would rather had the beating. Hit him right in the wallet. Bad az$ dad. Along with public humiliation. Drop the mic on this one.
I loved hearing you say that you made the kids pay. Our society would be so much better if all people were held responsible for their actions. Its not mean is parenting the biblical way. Great job! Love watching you and your family.
Love your attitude. You have brothers, you know... I have three brothers, we never fought! LOL My oldest brother is 70 now. We love telling stories and recalling the good old days.
As a young guy. I have been there. I’m sure most of us have been there. Those moments of decision, between swallowing it and behaving maturely or immaturely are some of the most important. Keep your head up Landon, we all make mistakes. P.S Im sure your brother wasn’t completely innocent either. 😂 I have 3 younger bros.
A great lesson of responsibility for your son, the fact that he had to pay for it is something he will not forget. I did something similar with my grandson when he wrecked my 4 wheeler because he was mad at a girl and was driving too fast. It good to see you teaching responsibility
I'm really pleased that you kept it cool regarding the glass. Shit happens but nobody got hurt and $600 should help Landon remember that the shop isn't the place to be anything except calm.
Thanks for adding the piece where Landon squares up for his mistake. Nice to see some accountability with kids. Something you done see as much these days.
I like this channel so much I watch it twice. And every time I enjoy it as much as the first time. I love the Fab Rats and all the families and friends. Papa Dar just completes it. ❤️🙏🙏👍👍🌟🌟❤️
Just wanted to drop you all a line to say, thank you! After crazy busy, stressful weeks, I look forward to spending Sunday mornings with a cup of coffee and the Fab Rat’s crew. I enjoy your family interactions and of course all of your projects. Thanks for just being…you.
I already had my teenage boys, they have their own now. Paybacks are a, well you know. Unfortunate that your FJ got caught in the melee. Thanks for the vid.
Super light tint on all the glass in a trail rig...when it breaks it shatters but stays in place, easy cleanup and no trail mess. Clear packing tape applied before breakage works in a pinch for rear/side windows too!
The boy learned a painful lesson and found out what being accountable is all about! Great parenting! I can't wait to see what is going to happen with Bens Jeep in the near future. Probably something epic!
"Teenage boys, you should get yourself some." LOL!!!! "I've watched a lot of Breaking Bad." Great quotes! I love your relationship with your family, especially your boys, and I appreciate how you handled the broken window(s). Making him pay for it was seriously the right thing to do. I'm surprised that you didn't make him help with clean up, but maybe not having him there was your way of dealing with it? LOL Man, you got a lot done in 4 days, but I noticed your projects go the same way as mine. One thing leads to another.
Landon has quite the arm to kill 2 windows with one stone. Gotta love the parenting moments. It always makes you remember the dumb stuff we did as kids.
I love Michells words of "Dont be too mad" gave Paul some time to think of dumb things he did as a kid. Good job to make Landon pay up for his mistake. Lessons are learned quick when it dents the bank account.
Having grown up in a family of four boys I can almost guarantee that Paul solved the problem because Paul pulled the same kind of stunt as a kid. Intergenerational fathering -- our society is going down the tubes without it. You don't have to be perfect to be a good father, just be there, learn and do it.
Listening to Paul and Ben banter I turned to my husband and said, they were in a house of teenage boys. Wonder how many times they did something foolish like that?
Drill those windshield hinges out and pin them... then you can take your windshield off when you're off road and not to worry about breaking it. Did it to my '79 CJ-7. Love the videos!!!
I love how Paul takes off to go to support his boys playing baseball. Because in today’s world, so many kids are neglected by parents. Paul & Michelle are such warm loving & caring parents 😊
I can only imagine the conversation… “you know that’s going on UA-cam right?” Hahaha. I’ve got a brother just 16 months older then me. So I completely understand throwing a rock at his car.
i really like the white rust and metal spotted look, its so rustic and just one of a kind, idk if your keeping it like that but it reminds me of a natural marbled look yet is so old western i love it, add in the fact its a rock crawler its another one of a kind build like the golden nugget ..ps it also reminds me of a cow pattern
LOL. Glad I'm not the only one that has boys that fight with each other. It's always a joy to try to get something done in the shop with them arguing. Cheers from Oregon!
Amazing job guys. You done well putting the kid to pay the glass, is the best way to lear to be responsible for your actions. Good parenting right there!
Next time, take tape and tape the entire window up before removing it so you don't have as much glass going everywhere! You'll probably be finding pieces of glass for a while lol!
Whole video I'm thinkin', "you ought to have the boys fixing that truck!" Then, the payout at the end made it all make sense. Hard, expensive lesson. But it's good for the soul.
Pay out at the end was the price of the glass, I dont know how Hunter was involved with the breakage but he was the one doing the vacuuming.🤨 Me and my brothers would have never done anything like that.😉🤣
this video was fantabulous. reminds me of my childhood and having to learn the hard way breaking my dad's tools(and some of his belongings). Fab Rats and family are the best. Paul and Ben working together in an awesome way and gettin it done.
Just wanted to throw in.... I sure enjoy Ben in your videos. He adds a lot to each episode. Also, your cousin Sally over here in the Sacramento area wanted me to say hello!
Oh my- reminds me of my brothers and myself when I was a youngster! But your son owned up and took care of his obligations like a trooper. You are raising some good kids Paul and Michelle! I'm enjoying the progress on Toyota FJ45. And we all love the Demo Derby 'races' too! You all seem like family, even Ben!!
Good parenting Paul! The consequences if that rock hit the intended target...! Good luck to you and Ben with all you busy with, love watching your video's
great comments, good life experiance, next question...wher the heck are the 40 and 40 min rat rod tow truck vids?or the upcoming jeep build..we miss those 2/3 times a week shows...please bring them back..please..thanx love u guys and the channel !
Tow Truck Olympics I may be wrong, but I'm thinking (hoping) that it's a chance for a bunch of like minded friends to get together and put on a light hearted show for the fans and have a ball together doing it! It will certainly attract a lot more people to each of your channels. Not really so much about the competition side of things, but more about how your styles are different and necessary to each of your own jobs and abilities. I don't know about you guys but I enjoy the comradery that exists between you all and how you each specialize in what you do, displaying your own style and reasoning. I, for one, think it's gonna be a heck of a show and look forward to seeing it.....from each of your perspectives and on your own channels.
One of my favorite vehicles. Love watching this! Makes me happy and encourages me to continue with my very mild (by comparison) FJ Cruiser project. Thanks guys!
"I hope you learned a little sumptin out of this bub". In his mind he was thinking throw straighter. Lol. Excellent teaching point Pual. Keep up the great work.
one hard lesson to learn but well worth it. Anger will make you do everything you don't want to do. and make you look like a fool in the process. been there wish I hadn't. after, it was too late. I know it might sound crazy now, but you'll thank your dad in years to come. it is something we all feel and must learn to control. you're a good kid and this is but a step in the stairs that is your life. good luck young man. I like your character. you are smiling in almost all of the videos I see you in. wish you nothing but the best for your future.
Somehow I feel the need to question a rock deflecting off another vehicle and stricking the FJ hard enough to go through two windows? One being the windshield?
Not so hard to imagine…… the rear is just tempered glass, easy enough to get thru, made to crumble with minimal shards and sharp edges……like a patio door. The front is laminated glass, made to prevent all but the real high speed projectiles from getting thru. Had the rock hit the front windshield first, it woulda pretty much have stopped right there. 🤓
Could have been a small deflection. Maybe the kid threw it at the fender but missed a bit high, rock deflects of the hood maintaining almost all it's momentum and then right through the fj glass.
Landon's got quite the arm if he can go through one window and smash a windshield! Don't want to diminish the experience, but as I'm thinking about that, it's pretty impressive!! Also, the FJ is looking good!! Another week of work and then after that, another week, and another, and another, and another....
I'm impressed that you held your son accountable! That's how it should be! After all the sound deadening in the cab, you need to put a real muffler on the motor too. Btw: my FJ40 had a lot of room under the hood. Maybe you stuffed too much under there... 🙂 I think you could have pulled the legs for the roll bar together with a 2 tie downs and it would have come out...
Thank you Paul for raising your kids properly there must be consequences for actions a lot of kids these days don't know that and I'm glad to see you're teaching your children properly keep up the great work love the videos
That kid's got an arm, a ricochet that goes through a window and breaks another. Some great potential there. Be glad it wasn't the curved glass. Spraying a catalyzed product of any kind without a mask is not a good idea. You think it will stop curing when it's in your lungs? Nope, in to stay. Love your channel, I'd like to see you doing it for a few more years. Nope, not safety police, as a builder, remodel, finish, woodworker, who also dabbles in welding, plumbing, electrical guy, I've taken plenty of safety shortcuts. It only takes one shortcut gone wrong to give you a new paradigm. Do it for Michelle.
Very happy to hear Ben’s Jeep is going to be a project on the channel, dude puts in the work, he deserves the love. Keep up the great content, y’all are killing it!!
Been following quite a bit. An idea for the ac ducting... check out the shop vac. The wide floor nozzel will work under the dash for the window defrost difuser. Then the flexible hose is the duct work... just a thought.
Another great video, Paul! And great editing work, Michelle! Love how you handled the situation, Paul and I know what you mean by your teenage boys comment. We had three of them … all grown up now with kids of their own. I also like how the boys had mom intercede on their behalf before dad even got home. Nice move boys! ☺️ That’s quite a throwing arm Landon has there! Love that you always attend the boys’ games, Paul, despite the amount of work you have to do … and in this case after this unfortunate ‘accident’. ☺️ After this video, you’re liable to find a scout at one of those baseball games , Paul. Through two windows! Man!
I was teaching my younger brother how to drive a stick. Later on, he though I told him, that the clutch had to be out, when starting it. Long story short he drove a 78 Ford Courier, through the family room window. He then put a big rock, in front of it and told our old man that, someone threw it. He didn’t fall for it and somehow I ended up grounded!
So, the rock went thru the back window completely (after bouncing off another vehicle), worked its way around the right side of the headrest, raised its trajectory slightly, and made a slight course change to the left before impacting the front window. Amazing!
And Landon got to watch it will in slo-mo! When you do stupid shit and it goes bad the catastrophe just seems to keep on building. Been there, done that, had to pay too.
The FJ is looking great. And your son learned a good lesson. Not to THROW ROCKS . Lol 😆. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see you guys working on your brother's jeep .
Some days are better than others. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friends. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Fab On. Weld On. Keep making. God bless.
I did that exact same thing to my YJ. I black raptor lined the whole inside, but I also use a blue raptor lined on the outside. It looks awesome and you don't have to worry about scratches.
Thanks guys! Great to see the family working together, glad you can keep the small bumps in perspective. Hope we can see an update on the guys who were in the accident.

The boy learned a painful lesson and found out what being accountable is all about! Great parenting! I can't wait to see what is going to happen with Bens Jeep in the near future. Probably something epic!
The look on his face when he handed you that money shows that a hard lesson was learned. Love the hinge this channel teaches us
"Teenage boys, you should get yourself some." LOL!!!!
LOL
Man, you got a lot done in 4 days, but I noticed your projects go the same way as mine. One thing leads to another.
That FJ is SWEET!! Love what you guys have done and are doing. Can’t wait to see what’s coming for Ben’s Jeep! (Jeep owner here)
Landon has quite the arm to kill 2 windows with one stone. Gotta love the parenting moments. It always makes you remember the dumb stuff we did as kids.
Especially since it was off a ricochet
And after bouncing off the other car. DANG!
Wonder how many times they did something foolish like that?
showing up is half the battle.
Ben is mommas favorite
Underrated comment right here!
[Expensive] Lesson learned! Nice to see the FJ getting some love, can’t wait to see/hear how the A/C works out
I can only imagine the conversation… “you know that’s going on UA-cam right?” Hahaha.
They're gonna have Robby paint it eventually, which sucks cause I really like it too, it's perfect patina. Rustic is a very good term for it
all i can think of is a tetanus shot when i see the RUSTic look
Pay out at the end was the price of the glass, I dont know how Hunter was involved with the breakage but he was the one doing the vacuuming.🤨 Me and my brothers would have never done anything like that.😉🤣
Love the look of the FJ as Ben was driving it in with no cage or front windscreen.😃
Well Done! I had to do the same with my two boys. Learning a great lesson in life. A fathers love is amazing
There's never been a channel quite like this in UA-cam's history. You've all really got something on your hands here.
The amount of patients and ability to keep your composure after an incident such as that is truly amazing. Nothing but respect for you Paul 💯
Should have done both rear tubes, then just picked the back up over the bed rails and turned the cage sideways… but that way works too 🤣
this video was fantabulous. reminds me of my childhood and having to learn the hard way breaking my dad's tools(and some of his belongings).
Absolutely certified surgical mechanics. Love watching you guys. That was an expensive lesson. I bet it'll stick too! Great edit Michelle.
is michelle still editing shes getting really good
Good parenting Paul! The consequences if that rock hit the intended target...! Good luck to you and Ben with all you busy with, love watching your video's
I was crying laughing when Mr Cox recommended we should get us some teenagers, "they're fun" he says. thanks for the happy tears.
I would rather raise a dozen teenage boys over any amount of teenage girls.
@@petepeterson7230 I've tried both. I whole heartedly agree with you!
Not only good shop videos, great parenting tips. It is nice to see parents teaching accountability. Well done Paul and Michelle.
great comments, good life experiance, next question...wher the heck are the 40 and 40 min rat rod tow truck vids?or the upcoming jeep build..we miss those 2/3 times a week shows...please bring them back..please..thanx love u guys and the channel !
You have a bunch of cool equipment to do what you do. Enjoy watching y'all!
Amazing team and patience is a virtue ....great attitude
to have Paul, Ben and Merlin under one garage would be amazing to see! I could only imagine the projects they would build!
Grandma Lolly looked fantastic with that haircut! 🥰👌👍
Tow Truck Olympics
I may be wrong, but I'm thinking (hoping) that it's a chance for a bunch of like minded friends to get together and put on a light hearted show for the fans and have a ball together doing it!
Glad it was just the flat windows - would guess the curved ones are a bit tough to come by
Since you have ppl sitting in the back in the sun the whole time it would be cool to make a canvas shade cover that can be removed for them.
They do play baseball. Yea, the deflection part seems sketchy.
They play baseball so their arms are in good shape.
Could have been a small deflection. Maybe the kid threw it at the fender but missed a bit high, rock deflects of the hood maintaining almost all it's momentum and then right through the fj glass.
The best lessons in life are the hard ones. Great video guys.
Landon's got quite the arm if he can go through one window and smash a windshield! Don't want to diminish the experience, but as I'm thinking about that, it's pretty impressive!!
Also, the FJ is looking good!! Another week of work and then after that, another week, and another, and another, and another....
I was thinking the same, not one but 3 different objects the rock hit before stopping
Just like Rick Vaughn aka Wild Thing
Notice just a few days later Paul still went to their baseball game… wonder if Landon is the pitcher? 😝
Nice job guy’s putting in the heater and air conditioner. The liner in the bed and cab is looking good.👍👍👍👍👍☺️☺️
I'm impressed that you held your son accountable!
Thank you Paul for raising your kids properly there must be consequences for actions a lot of kids these days don't know that and I'm glad to see you're teaching your children properly keep up the great work love the videos
can you imagine the "oh sh!t" face when the rock went through the windows!! lol
Man!
The mom thing struck me too its so spot on for a mom to do! My wife does it all the time for our daughter..
Tire tracks? Dads always know.
@@robertheinkel6225 haha no, it was obvious.
Lines up,as far as I can see. Maybe head to some other channel?
The FJ is looking great. And your son learned a good lesson. Not to THROW ROCKS . Lol 😆. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see you guys working on your brother's jeep .
Some days are better than others. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friends. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Fab On. Weld On. Keep making. God bless.
I'd love to say I never did anything stupid as a kid, adolescent, young adult, or old adult......But I'd be lying.
I’m with you man.. everyone has to get to angry, and do something regrettable because that is where the lesson lyes
My dad would've went red foreman on me for throwing that rock ! Glad you were so chill ! Now make him pay for it 😄
Foam not good thing spray it rots out your body it did to my scout 2 rocker, it keeps moisture in it
I did that exact same thing to my YJ.
