Thanks a lot👍
Nice job!
Thank you so much for answering my questions on a video after addressing my question to the audience.
You have a wonderful way to present quickly materials.
Can’t say enough “Thank You”! Enjoy your day.
Thanks, Mahdi! I really do appreciate that. I only hope I pronounced your name correctly. :)
Keep the quality content coming Ivan. Your channel will catch up and become big!
Thanks. I really appreciate that!
I love your channel!!! You have a knack for teaching. Easy to understand and follow along.
I just finished creating my slideshow and by the time I uploaded to youtube, the photos were blurry. Horrible resolution. I'm so disappointed!! It took me days What can be the reason for that?
Thank you for the kind words.
The reason it’s blurry is that the slideshow, when you export it, gets compressed to 1080p. If you play the slideshow in the Photos app without exporting, it plays back in higher resolution.
You can use the QuickTime app to record your Mac’s screen to get a higher quality recording of the slideshow. That one should be nicer, but it still will be limited by the resolution of your Mac's display, which could be less than the full quality of photos and videos in your show.
There are other slideshow apps out there that can produce higher quality slideshows, but the Photos app is among the easiest to use and it’s already on your Mac.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
I have decided to make a more complete version of this video to better explain all the elements. And I’m slowly making my way through other slideshow apps so can can see how others apps can do the same job.
@@HeyIvan THANK YOU! What I ended up doing because the slideshow was so clumsy when it came to Titles (especially repeating them to the next slide) that I gave UP and put the title ON the photo via Photoshop. I have a fully a updated iMac 2020 (last year for 27") and 36 ram of memory. Even that isn't helping. I was going to abandon it and start all over with iMovie, but that's not TOO much better.
Another issue I have is "sharing it". Of course, UA-cam is 1080, and that even made it look worse. But I don't want to send people an MP4 or other raw movie file. Too big.
Thanks for your time!!!! you rock!!!
You know, I do have a video that shows another way of adding text to a slideshow. It's similar to Photoshop, but the actions are reversible at the end.

If you watch, let me know what you think and whether it might help.
Thank you I will just use Photoshop for most of my text👍🇬🇧
My newest videos shows how to annotate photos directly.

Great Presentation! How to export slideshow to SHARED ALBUM, straight from Project?
In Photos, you'll need to export the slideshow as a movie file. (File > Export > Export Slideshow.) This will let you choose where to save the video file. Once it's saved as a movie, you can import it back into the Photos app. Then it will appear as just another item in your photo library. From there, you can put it into a shared album.
You'll notice that the quality of the movie file is reduced when you export it to a 1080p video file.
Ivan, Great presentations, I like your pace and info flow. I am creating a slideshow of old family photos where most viewers will not know the names of people in images. I need to create a text box under each person to identify them. I would also like to reposition the text box in the image. Any suggestions? Thanks
As you probably saw in this video, while you can place text into these slideshows, the amount and placement of the text is somewhat limited. It might be better, depending on the number of photos in your slideshow, to edit the photos separately, before putting them into the slideshow.
I'll have to see what that workflow looks like if you're keeping your pictures in the Photos app. Photos doesn't really have any features that allow you to annotate pictures with text.
On my Mac, I use Pixelmator as my photo editor of choice, but there are many good options, some free. And, of course, the Mac comes with Preview, which can do what you need.
Let me see what I can figure out.

Hey, I am finding your videos an amazing help.
I’m creating a slide show of our once in a lifetime holiday and would like to know how to be able to edit the music and know what’s playing where without having to watch the whole thing or export it. It’s for personnel use only and about 30 mins long. So for example I want to be able to see and hear and the edit what songs start and finish where? And hear what lyrics are on particular photos without having to sit and watch the whole thing each time. Does this make sense? If I play and skip to certain slides it doesn’t seem to jump the music to whet it will be? Can you help please? Anna
Hey, Anna. I know what you mean. The only way I’ve been able to do that is to export the slideshow video and scrub to the part of the show I want. It is not precise at all, but that was what worked for me.
Hi - Is there a way to change text color or location in image? Thank you.
I think this video will show what you need: ua-cam.com/video/uTlfPJSBbM4/v-deo.html
Hi Ivan well explained but what i wanted to do was simply move my text to the top of the Photo, thought that would be simple but looks like i can't!! Cheers
You’re right. It’s not all that flexible. Something like Keynote or PowerPoint can give you more of the flexibility you’re looking for. Or, maybe another slideshow creation app.
Me too, how can this not be possible???? I can't even seem to delete it...
Hi Ivan,
When I press enter to make my text on two lines, the text goes below however the text box size doesn't change therefore I can no longer see the text.
Any ideas?
I see what you're talking about. The available space for text is dependent on the theme you've chosen for your slideshow.
In this case, I'm thinking you might want to annotate your photos with text. It'll give you a bit more control, but is a totally different method of adding text.

Can I add the same text to multiple slides at once
Good question. I haven't found a way to do that.
Hi Ivan how do I add text at the end of the last photo
Hey, Peter.
The slideshow template you use will control how text appears on the last slide. In the slideshow, select the last slide in the strip at the bottom, then click the Plus icon and then click Add Text.
If you want more control over how the text appears, you may want to "Annotate" the slide image instead. Here's a video that describes how that works: ua-cam.com/video/uTlfPJSBbM4/v-deo.html.
when I try to delete the text, it deletes the photo next to it instead, any tips for this?
Try selecting the “T” icon in the slideshow strip at the bottom and then pressing the delete key.
I also just posted a video for how to markup slides with text, which is a different way to add text to your show.

hi Ivan
late compilation of slide show today and am struggling to play the video in the slide, how do I fix that?
You know, I thought we couldn't control the video playback duration, but I now see an option that looks like it should let us change it.
I'm having trouble getting that to work. Let me call Apple and see if my system is being problematic or whether I've discovered a bug.
What option am I talking about? If you open your Slideshow project, you can click the stopwatch icon on the right. There's a checkbox for "Play Selected for" that appears to be grayed out. You can still click it and set a duration. Although, for me, Photos crashes when I do that.
I'll report back.
@@HeyIvan thank you
So, I got my answer. It turns out that my Photos app was misbehaving. The Slideshow theme you choose affects how videos play back. Try choosing the Classic theme. That should let the whole video play.
For some reason, my Photos library wasn't doing that. I went through a bunch of troubleshooting with Apple and then, as if by magic, it started working properly again.
@@HeyIvan oh wow. Alright I will try that, I was using the vintage theme.
Thank you so much for reverting back
@@ingridmalamola1476 Let me know if changing the theme works for you. :)
Hey Ivan! Was just playing some of my slideshows from the past few years today - and instead of the captions being fully centered, they are now aligned left! Which isn't a big issue for the normal color, but I have several (dozens/hundreds) where I adjusted the color if it was on a light background. And the background on many of the captions is now black over on the side - so the captions can't be seen. Any idea if this is some type of bug/issue with a Photos update?
It sounds like you’re playing them back directly in the Photos app instead of using a video file that you exported. Is that right?
Super weird. This sounds like a bug. What macOS are you on and what version of the Photos app? Which theme are you using? I’ll see if I can reproduce the issue you’re having on my own setup.
You know, you can try creating a new slideshow in the Photos app with just a few pics to see if the problem follows you there.
In my time using Photos, I have seen some issues that are limited to a specific slideshow. I’ve also seen an issue that was tied to a specific Photos library. The big bummer is if this is a problem tied to a specific slideshow, then it sounds like a lot of your manual edits might get lost.
@@HeyIvan Yes - I normally just play the slideshow in Photos. I find that when I export, the image quality is not as good. I got a new Mac at the start of the year, so I'm now running Ventura. Everything created on this Mac is fine, but everything from prior years has all the text aligned Left instead of centered. They all use the Classic theme. Photos is Version 8 on this machine, I'm sure it was an older version on my previous machine.
Thanks for this info. It seems like you've gotten to the root of the issue. On your older Mac you're running an older macOS and an older version of the Photos app.
Here's something to try, on your new Mac, right-click or control-click the slideshow in the Photos app and duplicate it. Then, in the new copy of the slideshow, try changing the theme and changing it back to see whether it makes things any better.
Let me know if that works.
@@HeyIvan Well - even better than that! I hadn't thought about switching the theme. In this case - I can just switch the theme on the slideshow, play it, then switch it back to the original theme and the captions are centered again. Another Victory for Ivan!!!!
Hooray! I’m so glad that worked.
