Great tutorial. With the movement from iPhoto to Photos, they dropped a few of the slideshow templates. Is there anyway to bring the previous templates from iPhotos into Photos,or is there a way to import from another source?
Thanks @tpmacleod, I hear ya...there were for sure features that did not come to the new versions of software. I am not aware of any ways to transfer any of those templates from older iPhoto to newer Apple Photos. I would image the architecture of the software is completely different and wouldn't be compatible. There's always options to use iMovie or different software to take it to the next level! Hi, Joel I'm really new to iCloud Photos. I'm keeping watch your video and I got a lot of great information. Thank you so much. I just started to be a fan of Apple. I have a ten years old iMac and a 9th gen iPad. Also plan to switch from android to iPhone because of iCloud. I subscribed for 2TB space. I want to organize all my photos with Apple photos and shared to my family instead of keep them in the harddrive for several years. I took a lot of photos of my kids when they're small. I transferred all photos into external harddrive with my Windows PC. My question is, how can I upload all my photos in my external harddrive which I took with DSLR to icloud photos. My iMac has not much space left, only about 100gb. I never import any photos into Apple photos. Do I need to prepare a big space for the photo library? Can I just directly upload all 600gb photos to iCloud photos? Hopefully you will see this comment. Thank you so much. John
great video thank you Im trying to use this over iMovie for quick slideshows of events, I perfer using my own songs over the slideshow and maybe 2 songs, HOW do I get the music to END with the end of the slide show say fade out I tried the custom and the fit and still the music goes over and starts the slide show all over never ending. I like it to end with a text credit, Any ideas why this is not working for me? thank you for your great videos and help I subscribed.

Perfect!! Exactly what I needed. We just returned from 2 weeks visiting the national parks out west and I wanted to put a video travel log together. I started in FCPX but that seemed like overkill. Your suggestions of creating various small Photos slideshows, without music, and then bringing them into iMovie meets my needs. Thx again!

Thanks a million! I am a beginner and I fully understand your video. I have a question, if the slideshows are exported to iMovie, will iMovie show all the photos in full as iMovie ratio is 16:9?
Prior to watching your video (great job, BTW!) I'd attempted to create a slideshow for a memorial service for my father in law. I found that the music selection in the slideshow didn't allow me to choose certain songs I want in the slideshow. I checked, and each of those songs had been downloaded to my MacBook Air...and if you'll recall, you said we only have to download the music we want. Don't know why that didn't work for me. So I then went back in to iTunes and purchased a couple of the songs from my playlist that I wanted in the slideshow...and this time I was able to add them. So I'm thinking maybe there's more required than just downloaded the desired music?

I have a subscription to Apple Music, so it is linked with iTunes and allows me to download "purchase" the songs. So you did it correctly. How do add slides and have less pics on a slide. It is grouping too many on one slide. I exported it and your video was very helpful except this question
Great question @Beverley Price! There are some limitations to the Slideshows within Apple Photos. You are kinda at the mercy of the template/theme that you're using. You don't have a lot of control to manually choose how many photos are on one slide. Thanks so much for watching! I have played with the Slideshow feature in Apple Photos using HDR pictures, either created with the iPhone HDR feature, or my Canon R7 in HDR PQ mode. In both cases the pictures are saved in HEIF files. When I open them on my Mac which has an XDR display, I see them in full HDR glory. However if I either play a slideshow out of them, or try to export a slideshow using them, the HDR goodness is lost and everything is significantly downgraded to JPEG. I find it sad because HDR pictures I beautiful and their is no good way to view them. Apple is pushing HDR capture but looks like little has been done do consume that content. Do you know if there is a way to have an HDR slideshow or export it into an HDR video ? Thank
Great question @Aleksandras Nelkinas! From everything I've tried and read about Apple Photos, it does not export 4K slideshows. Even if you have 4K videos in there and high resolution images, it just does 1080p as the highest HD option. At least iMovie will do 4K as long as your start by adding a 4K footage as the first clip to set the project settings. If someone else has a work around for Apple Photos though, I'd love to hear! You're very welcome @Karine armed! Anytime you add a photo to a regular album in Apple Photos, it's always making a reference to the actual photo that lives in the library. This means that if you delete a photo from a regular Album, it will ask you to remove from only the album, or delete from the library. If you delete from the library and you're using iCloud Photos to sync, it will be deleted from iCloud and all of your other devices that are using iCloud Photos. hi there ... did u see that if u make a slide show using vintage prints theme the video will be cut!!!!! ??? try to put 1 photo then a video 20 secs for example then another photo .. then play ... so u can see only 2, 3 secs of entire video!!!!! apple support said that with new system decided to do this!!!!!! this is insane!!!!! if u change the theme standard the problem disappear ... the last version where working good is 10.14.6 !!!!!!! ideas??????

As far as emailing videos, it will usually always present challenges with file size and quality of the movie that won't due the video justice with all the work you put into it. I personally would not email the video. There are a few other ways that you could share. 1. Add the video into an Apple Shared Photo Album. This gives you the ability to add a video to a location where anyone with a link will be able to view. Users do not need to have an Apple ID or iCloud account to access, as long as you have the link for public viewing. Only limitation to this is a 15 minute duration. I have a video that covers this topic that may help. iCloud Photo SHARED ALBUMS - GET STARTED with sharing photos with ANYONE on ANY DEVICE! ua-cam.com/video/vU0MRfm2utI/v-deo.html 2. You could use iCloud Drive to share this video of any duration and quality, however the only downfall is that viewers need to have an Apple ID or iCloud account to view. Great question @Liz Ryan! Yes, in order to add photos within an Apple Photo Slideshow, the photos will need to be in Apple Photos. You can always import the photos, create the slideshows and then remove photos as options too if you don't want to keep pictures in there for whatever reason. I hope that helps! Templates are too basic and rigid. Not a lot of options. If you want just fade in and out, without rearranging the images, you can't do it.

Users do not need to have an Apple ID or iCloud account to access, as long as you have the link for public viewing. Only limitation to this is a 15 minute duration. 2. You could use iCloud Drive to share this video of any duration and quality, however the only downfall is that viewers need to have an Apple ID or iCloud account to view.

3. You could use UA-cam or another social media site like FaceBook to upload the video and share.

Yes, in order to add photos within an Apple Photo Slideshow, the photos will need to be in Apple Photos. You can always import the photos, create the slideshows and then remove photos as options too if you don't want to keep pictures in there for whatever reason.

Hi Joel, I just had a dear friend pass away and I Volunteered to do a slide show.. your tutorial was very helpful. my one question is how do you download the slideshow to a readable DVD for TV’s.
