This takes me back to the days when youngsters used to get a new sound system for Christmas and we would see the car for service and find household electrical wire pushed through the bulkhead, no grommet, no fuse just to get the new toy working after christmas
Just finished the timing chain on the 1.6 ctdi .. your videos were amazing thank you .. my local dealer wouldn't do it . So we did it in the driveway . It wouldn't have been possible without your videos
Nice one Baz , as professional as it gets there, saved the punter a packet on a loom , whoever cocked that up is crazy , very dangerous, some just don't care though as long as they've got the charge off the unaware customer 👍👍
Whenever you've had a wiring bodge like that and your not sure of the condition you can use a thermal camera to check for any hot spots on all connections whilst under full electrical load
I can’t stress enough how dodgy wiring can cause a fire. Wiring is such an easy thing to do. I was soldering wires in the early 90’s when I was bearly a teenager on a regular hobby in the UK. Radio control model car racing. As I said, wiring with lead solder is so easy. Great channel by the way Baz 👍
I always look forward to your videos, i'mrecently gone back to Hull College to have a career change and learn all this, your helping me so much with knowledge it's unreal, i'd say even more than what my tutors are actually helping me haha!! your explanations are so easy to follow, your great at this, keep up the good work buddy!
Pretty common on PSA group and Renaults, The terminals are to0 small for the current flowing, as soon as a bit of rsistance occurs, that equals heat and molten plastic/wiring.
Sir , you're attention to detail is amazing ! One question ! Why would that have been joined like that in the first place, previous fault with the blower motor before ? Videos are excellent 👍
In 1977, on his 3 litre Capri, my brother attempted to attach the battery negative to the car body using impact adhesive. He wasn't good at tech stuff! Blower motors take a lot of current. I measured one at around 15 amps. That's enough to create a lot of heat in a poor connection🔥
Hi again,im new to your channel, can you please do a video ,how do you get your cars onto lift, love your videos, very informative and thorough, regards Eugene.
I've never seen anything like this in a Peugeot. Was there perhaps a “ handyman” or “arsonist” at work who wanted to burn down the vehicle? It reminds me very much of a time in the 1970s when a stereo system was installed with “flying wiring”. I would replace the cable and all plugs to the fan, then measure the power consumption of the fan and possibly install an additional fuse directly on the fan. I think that makes sense. But your repair is also very good! 🥇
Reminds me of the Zafira B fan motor fires where the fan motor would start to partially seize and keep blowing the thermal fuse, so people would short it out with really thick wires to keep the fan working. Naturally the fan motor wiring would eventually catch fire.
I had a mate who wired a pair of driving spots, directly to his main beams with bell wire!😂 he was so chuffed with his work until he tried them and the wire melted within seconds!. 😂😂😂 I nearly wet myself laughing!.
Hi Baz the owner of the car should first thank you for your professional repair and the save then he should show the video to the person who made the disgraceful repair and the rest i would leave to your imagination as to what i would do, that's why a mechanic like you are worth your weight in gold, excellent job.
Fair play to you. I’d have told the owner to take it elsewhere. Who on earth did that bodge? Soldering and a bit of heat shrink is easy. No need to make such a shocking connection, excuse the pun!
Hi baz, I don’t want to sound like a stalkeroony was that the A483 when you were out travelling to the breakers 🤔 I live other side of Chester and it did remind me of my runs to Oswestry
@bazmeredith oh ok thank you. I'm losing abit of coolant with no visible leak, would that definitely be a head gasket or warped head. Or is there anything else it could be
Hello Baz. Can you help? My 2004 nissan primastar van has got the coil light on. I had a diagnostic check and I've changed all the faults. Egr valve, glow plugs, egr boost solenoid, turbo boost annoyed. Cleaned the boost pipes and carbon. Checked my main brain for wires being chaffed. It runs perfectly, but the light stays on. I'm lost now. It's driving me mad. Thanks for any help.

@ 4.23. Sorry buddy, I’ve just subscribed to your channel and think it’s great. You are undoubtedly a first class technician. I’ve been around a bit myself and seen that type of bodge many times before. PSA group cars were famous for heater rheostat failures at one time.
My bosses neice let some trained mechanic fit a low speed fan resistor to her car and when it over heated and popped the top hose she brought it in to us and it definitely looked like the same style repair, there was a very loose ring crimp it a female spade crimp held in with only tape and every single crimp was soooo loose you could just pull them off with light to zero effort 😳🙈 was the worst wire repair I have ever seen in my life😅
Absolutely shocking repair by some cowboy operator. Great repair video Baz, showing the correct way to splice cables and replace parts of a loom with salvage parts. 👍
@bazmeredith cheers Baz. Feel free to drop us a message in one of your videos. I've 26 yrs experience in the trade. Teaching for 12 yrs and now working with the apprentices at Preston college. They'd love a mention. 👍
People dont realise that car wiring is not the same as household wiring. The MAIN difference is that a car is DC not AC. Loads on wiring are high given the low voltage (12v) . DC is very prone to fire if not wired correctly. This lady owner was very lucky. There is a fair chance her insurance would have refused to pay out- the cause being a toss job. Wiring is seeable after a fire because copper has such a high melting point and although the insulation would have been destroyed, the copper remains and shows the fault.
On the plus side, and totally not relevant to this video, the heater matrix looks a nice easy job, some things have got easier, did the one in my old 306 a few years ago, was full on dashboard out job
