I love your programs I just find it amazing how you get these very old lorry's to run again. Mr Paul c Pickthall from Cheltenham Gloucestershire England Uk.
An Emeryville was the first truck I drove on the NJ Turnpike in 1971. My boss told me it had a scored cylinder liner, and to take it easy pulling the hill on the overpass between exits 14 and 15 because it might overheat. Long story short, it overheated and quit running, and had to be towed. That was a bad first day on the job. Anyway, I know batteries are not cheap but you just gotta have all the cranking amps you can get and good clean tight connections when messing around and trying to start old diesel engines. I know you guys know this. That's a nice setup you have on your truck Hank. That's a 24 volt starter on that Emeryville (Googled it). It's amazing what you can find on the internet on a smart phone. You guys would have needed 2 fully charged 12 volt truck batteries and connected in series with good tight connections to even have a chance, that is, if the engine was free enough and that starter good enough to turn it over fast enough to start. That Emeryville brought back lots of memories. Thanks for making the video.
Hank if you look at the pump you will see a leaver on the top that swings back and forth it should say up and down those cabs pumped up and also pumped down.
The point that is being pulled from was part of the issue, running the straps over the cab and hooking them under the back would have leveraged at the bad corner of the cab roof
People finally got to see how much work goes into these vehicles 45 minutes just to open the cab. It's not an easy job to do with all that rust Great job Wiley and Hank thank you for not editing out how hard it was just to get the cab open Love these videos God Bless you both
Suggestions, there is a tool that has tap that works to shave incremental amounts of metal with out cutting to deep into a battery connector, it makes it all clear metal to metal contact for good connections.
Used to be an Emeryville sitting up at Cullman, AL, behind the old Jack's Truckstop. It has been some years since I have been down that way. I believe the truckstop has been closed, and the truck is gone. It was at the same place as R.E. Garrison Trucking.
Our first semi was a 59 Emeryville that my brother Phil drove, had a 220 Cummins 10 speed roadranger tandem axles and I got mine in 1960. Twin trucks except the 59 had single headlights and the 60 had twin lights. I had a 250 cummins. We hauled grain from the elevator in Rugby, ND to Mpls/ St paul and Duluth Mn. Slept many nights in that sleeper and to this day I love that truck. When in the service in 62 sold trucks and bought KW 100's in 64 when army service ended. John
Putting the strap over the top of the cab and securing it at the bottom of the back of the cab would have made better use of the leverage and wouldn't have damaged the A pillar. The initial pull was too much downwards rather than forwards. The pull would have been better from 2-3 times further away.
That's an old Johnson motor lined truck . You can see the sanded squares that said Johnson . Their trucks had a bar across the rear spring bolts that had a little short mudflap on it . The first tandam axel would pic up a nail or something and the little mudflap would knock it down before the next axel would hit it avoiding a flat tire .
Hank watch the video where you guys are pulling the cab over you can see where the problem is with it not wanting to come up the front grill is catching on the bumper you see it bending
We used to own a 1971 IH CO4070A with a 355 cummins and it is indeed 24 Volt to Start. when you hooked up batteries you did it in parallel which increased cranking amps but not voltage. When you hook up batteries in series it increases voltage to 24 volts. One battery hook ground to negative post. other battery hook starter solenoid wire to positive post. then you run wire between two batteries from empty posts positive to negative. this is a negative ground system. Once engine starts solenoid cuts to 12 volt to truck wiring. should start on starting fluid but use sparingly. She should run
I drove one in the early’80s. Day cab, 671 Detroit, 5 speed 2speed rear axle. Split rims. Hot in the summer and colder than my mother in law’s love in the winter.
My dear Friends of all the things I’ve seen you work on, this is undoubtedly the worst OR Greatest which ever way you want to think about it!! If I was Wiley, I’d go get a glass of ice water while Hank got it running!! Thanks guys!!!

I live N C there is one these truck's about 20 miles from I live also and international beside it and a mack cabover the man had small trucking company he sold 3 peterbuilts he had also some old reefer trl there just sitting around rusting away.
Those old trucks with the NH180 cummins were 24 volts to start from what i remember being told back in the day they took 4 of 6 volt Group 4 batteries but they used a 12 volt charging system and the detroit powered used only 2 batteries group 7. Also pretty sure the cummins engines of that time used oil bath air cleaner.
In the 80's, I had just finished installing a slant 6 in a dart. I got everything connected, and was ready to start it. I installed the battery and tapped the battery cables onto the battery. I hooked up the remote start switch and decided it was time to start it. I hit the button and the entire top of the battery exploded, pelting my face, neck and arms with acid and plastic. Afterwards I looked at the battery and what caused the explosion was by pounding on the battery, I cracked the internal connection between the terminal and the plates, so when I hit the starter button, it arc'd and the battery exploded. I have never hammered on a battery since.
Not sure if it would work on diesel engines but ya could stop in to O'Reilly's and pick up one of those remote start switches like Derek over on Vice Grip Garage uses.. Seems to be pretty handy..
I drove a old 50s Emeryville cabover when I drove otr, When in Fontana California getting my road truck serviced I’d have to drive it to either deliver or pickup a load, That was in the 70s, Enjoy y’all’s videos from central Florida!!!
You do not need to hook a ground up to the starter, the starter is already grounded to the engine block through the housing, all you need to do is hook power to battery and ground wire from battery to engine block, then jump start wire on solenoid
Don't get ME wrong I Love old tjs . But I'll b posting one this yr ! By da way I know where one of those Emery Tis R setting at . U can't buy it for love or money . But I still found a Jewel 💎

I just started watching this Video, I don't know if they say what motor But I drove a truck Just like this in 1980, it should be a 290 Cummings Great truck , I pulled furniture , east coast to west coast, for 10 years
The old truck can still be saved. It will take a great metal man to replace each piece of metal steel to rebuild the cab. It would need to be taken apart piece by piece and rebuilt
@HamiltonvilleFarm Would you like to have a 1978 Ford semi tractor, we have the title and really just want it gone. It is a gas model and in East Palatka Florida.
I just googled this truck & saw a plethora of these trucks in pristine condition. They are a nice looking & what I would consider a midsize transport. I would love one of these to sit on a cement slab about a yard thick to keep it off the grass which eventually will destroy any vehicle. I would restore it to factory condition & create a luxurious interior & put in a far out stereo system & moonlighting & just use it to drive up & down the road & back & keep it parked i\on that cement block & enjoy siting in it & use it also as my own Mancave on wheels & enjoy listening to my music or just sit & think. :) We shouldn't destroy these machines they have more uses off road as well.
I know where in Emeryville sits. Every time we go out to do bee 🐝 work at the guy's property I drive by it and see it just sitting there. It's located here in lake Park Georgia. I keep thinking I wish I had the money to restore she would be beautiful to go along with my 62 Impala.🤔 And yes it's probably been sitting as long as this one in the video.
First time watching this channel, entertaining, but as a fellow wrench puller a word of warning. The fella in the red hat with YES on the front had better break the habit of tossing wrenches onto the top of a battery, it hits both posts and he’ll have a surprise coming. Seeing how his partner is leaning right over top of them, it’s serious eye and face damage waiting to happen.
Apparently theres not a jack in the tools on their utility truck or enough strapping to reach all the way over the cab to reach down the back of the cab to hook underneath it to give leverage. The cab on the Emoryville was rough when they got there but was totally destroyed by the time they got it to tip up. If the truck actually was rare, these guys should not have been allowed to go near it because they did more damage than good. While the cab was rough from the beginning, it was still restorable but not when they got done. Rust can be cut out and repair panels fabricated but crushed and buckled metal is way worse to repair. I used to do restorations and when I saw the damage being done it broke my heart. I can't even watch any more of it to see if they get it running because I am sure its going to be more hackery.
You need a lawn blower to blow all those.weeds and dust off then saturate every thing on that engine and don't be afraid to use your b f h tool on it to loosen things up.
I think they also called them tag axles and some called them dead axles as well very interesting guys and just spit balling go to a 4×4 truck shop they sell a jack for trucks that have a extremely high lift kit would work good for the first lifting of the cab once again just spit balling 👍

So cool having Caleb out with ya'll.
