I'm almost 60 and I wear what ever the hell I want and loving it.
😃 ❤❤❤
If that’s how you feel and you’re entitled to feel that way but I would ask then why are you watching this video? We can wear what we want but do you feel good in what you are wearing? I don’t know too many women who like to wear clothing that doesn’t make them feel good about themselves.
I am also almost 60 and I wear what ever I want. It’s just not the hell the same I what I wore 20 years ago.
@@moniquemilne4956 yes,it is ok to wear what you love and feel comfortable in,but some clothes that are comfy look frumpy and not stylish. Some people are born with good taste....well and others should look at videos like that...if they're interested in looking great.
Me too! I'm almost always in slashed jeans nowadays! xxxxx
Lisa, you are singing to the choir! While I do wish the fashion industry would take the very things you mentioned here into account when designing pieces, I really appreciate knowing I'm not imagining these things about myself--that other women are going through this. There's comfort in knowing you're not alone, you're not "losing it," and most importantly that there ARE options!!! Thank you so much for opening up about this. ❤
I hate to tell you things keep falling as you get older. I’m in my 70’s and still trying to grow old gracefully! ❤❤❤
💕💕💕
THANK YOU for being real!! I am 61, had a double mastectomy 2 years ago, and am taking hormone suppression drugs for 5 years post surgery. My shape had lost its mind because of it. I am so grateful someone is realistic about how bodies change. We all aren’t 5’8” and wear a size 4 at 50+. I have add’l issues being short and no longer able to wear V necks because of my scar… they were very helpful in adding the illusion of some height. I just TRULY appreciate seeing some honesty on 50+ UA-cam videos!!! Thank you again, and Happy Holidays!❤️💚❤️💚
They have special body make-up that covers scars. It might be useful on special occasions if you want to wear a particular dress.
💕💕
Oh my goodness. This was so validating. I can't believe how my body has shifted. My weight has stayed the same, but things have shifted-mostly south. I finally embraced the idea that despite the "cinch the waist with a nice belt" advice that seems to be the number one piece of advice of UA-camrs, it simply does not work on me because of the new location that my breasts are now occupying. I took a coat to the tailor recently and had the belt removed, and the coat is now perfect. Aging is not for the faint of heart. :)
Exactly!!! 💕
So glad you are a normal human being. Greetings from Amsterdam. You are not alone Kathrynn.. Have a merry christmas and a good 2023. We will get the hang of it. 😉👍✌🌼🍀
Ohmyword! You really made me smile. I can so relate. And I'm appreciate it that you gave alternatives.
Thank you for being here for us !
Thank you so much for this video. I don’t at all feel you’re being overly self-critical. The reason we do continue to look stylish & put together at any age is that we examine & evaluate in order to look our very best. Accepting our changing/aging bodies requires some forethought & analysis. I love the idea of aiming to look “modern” and “current” not young. Thanks again for helping us to set realistic style goals!
I am 64. It is helpful having someone talk about older bodies. So thank you.
Hi how are you doing?
Lisa, you've explained my bod to a 'T'. At 70, comfort & roomy has been & remains my goal.
Great points & ideas for the neck, midriff, chest & butt!
I am 55 and also 5 foot 4 inches tall. I can completely relate with everything you said in this video. I was so glad to hear this! There are still cute, trendy clothes out there for mature women that I love to wear. My 15-year-old daughter raids my closet! 😜
Hi how’re you doing?
I’m so glad I’m not alone! Totally agree with everything you said!❤
I'm not the only one!!! 27 in my head and translating to a 50+ body isn't computing until I actually put the clothing on. Ugh! But love the options you are encouraging. I am on that same page
Hi how are you doing?
Agree with all your choices! One thing, on the off the shoulder sweater, as long as it's not fitted and is loose, you can wear a tank under. I have done this in the fall and it worked well, but for the most part I do not purchase these anymore either.
I think you are being hard on yourself you look amazing. I think it's not the age that should determine what to wear but how you feel and how comfortable you are in the outfits.. obviously we are going to wear clothes a teenager or much younger women are wearing that we would look ridiculous on us lol, but we shouldn't be so hard on ourselves we should wear what makes us feel beautiful and makes us happy 🙂
Correction NOT going to wear what teenager blah....lol
I think this is an age mentality. We 50's ladies have fashion rules that we grew up with and are far more critical. When crop tops became fashionable years ago it used to amaze me to see chubby girls wearing the look proudly. Same for many other fashion styles.
I agree that we grew up in a time when we thought if we didn’t look a certain way that certain clothes and trends were off limits to us. This just isn’t the case. The younger generation have shown us. They wear the trends no matter what their body type. No one gets to tell us what we can and can’t wear. Who is going to tell us we can’t wear certain things? You are a gorgeous lady who takes really good care of yourself, that’s why we all watch your channel. I live in LA and the 50+ women here wear all the young trends well into their 70’s. The men too. They aren’t fading into the background anytime soon and I’m here for it.
Right! We camouflaged our flaws and accentuated our attributes. We weren’t proud of protruding bellies and gigantic derrières. I just don’t understand it.
@@Mrs.TJTaylorbodies don't all look the same and meeting an ever evolving standard of beauty to please your eyes isn't necessarily on everybody else's agenda.
Y'all limit yourselves based on aesthetic and not comfort. Go ahead.
Agree!! That's why this video isn't "What Women Over 50 Shouldn't Wear" but what "I" dont wear anymore due to my changing body shape. It's how I adapted styles that I used to wear to what fits my body more comfortably now 💕
@@LisaMonique i wasn't really coming for you. I was coming for the women in here body shaming people. "We weren't proud of our protruding bellies." Like it was some kind of virtue to hate the way you looked, Like it's some kind of higher purpose to have a flat stomach. That isn't women supporting women and it's shameful.
Haha. Your descriptions made me laugh 😂. You're hilarious, and I could identify with most of the problems with certain clothes you outlined.
Finally……..totally agree with almost all your “not wearing anymore list”. The jeans you said you would wear- ❤ them too! I watch all your content-keep them coming!
You are overly critical with yourself dear Lisa ☺️ 🤗 No one is perfect , or we all are 😉 You look amazing for mid 50s 😍
Part of it is that she has found things that look the best on her in her 50's. Once that is determined, why wear what doesn't look so good any more?
I’m with you Lisa! I’m in my 60s and gave up that stuff in my 30s. I do care how I look and wear clothes that flatter me and make me feel good in them. Some women may look fine in these outfits if they are over 50, but honestly most do not. Good suggestions you gave to viewers.
Thank you Lisa for sharing these informations. I can relate to your presentation. I am just on the process of cleaning up my closet...a lot of my dresses don't fit me anymore as I grew older. You are right, I don't feel comfortable wearing them!!! Looking forward to see more of your videos.
Hi Lisa, very helpful video. Agree with all of these:
I’m 58 and used to have some similar attitudes towards my clothes that you are experiencing. Drop shoulder slouchy longer sweaters, ALWAYS a V-neck top, paper bag and wide legs were a no and always oversized vneck T-shirts- I’d buy them in multiples.
However, this year, im doing wide leg trousers with sneakers, higher neck, cut in shoulder tanks that are really fitted, no more drop shoulder sweaters that cover my body and fitted tees that show my curves. I didn’t even realize that for 10 years I haven’t shown my body until my sister remarked that I looked like I had implants -it’s I just had never worn tighter clothes. I mean, I’m still not doing a bodycon sweater dress yet, but I may soon ;) I’m taking cues from the young ones to celebrate my shape instead of hiding it. They really are changing the visuals we have in the media about what is beautiful. Btw, getting more compliments than ever -when showing my shape.
I couldn’t agree more with all your choices!!
Love your honesty! I can so relate!
Hello 👋how are you doing?
Thank you for your candid responses, so generous of you. I subscribed. I'd like to see what you present next. Happy Holidays to you, too.
Thank you for your candid comments. I have other items that are no-no’s for me with other fun things that have happened. When did I get fat knees?! My Everlane wide leg jeans are great!
I love your makeup videos! And now I love this one too! I am 71…since retiring at 66, I go to the gym every day. I’ve always tried to stay within a certain range (lifetime WW!) (Up 15, down 10…you know the routine!) 🤣 So now retired and gym everyday…good underwire bra and strong cami to support breasts and back! I’m getting rid of all my ‘old lady’ tops and pants I was wearing a few years ago! I love my new wide leg jeans w heeled boots and loose sweaters and also some fitted shirts with tights for the gym and a jean jacket and FlipFlops or boots for lunch! Keep on keeping me hip!
Right on! I feel the same way you do I wear underwire bras I always have I wear the wide leg jeans and sweaters and boots Jean jackets and I especially love my BoHo tops.
I can’t wait to these crop every thing tops go away!! I found the perfect Sweatshirt and when I held it up it was a crop! I love V necks too.
Thank you for honesty .I am 59 and was feeling down because of how my body shape changed but listening to you made me felt not alone anymore.
Thank you for lifting my mood today
Ofcourse you're not alone. A lot of people go through that.Just take good care of yourself . Nothing more we can do. I am sure you are a wonderful woman. Have a merry christmas and a good 2023. Let us feel good about ourself mrsferbia. It's all we need. And everyone deserves it?!👍✌🌼🍀💜🤍🎶🎈 and don't let people make you feel otherwise. (Excuse my English) Greetings from Amsterdam. And a big hug. Karin
Hang in there sister I'm in that boat w\ you.
I agree with all your NOT to wear clothes. I think some people do not have a full length mirror-sad!!
Lol. I know they don’t have that mirror Beth
I've never commented on your videos (just thumbs-up and likes). I am commenting because what you shared resonated with me. I like that you gave options to replace items no longer in your wheelhouse. Happy holidays 😊
Hello how are you doing?
Thank you Mary!! Have a Merry Christmas!!
I have been really enjoying revisiting my boho hippie style from high school - I am 63 and it still suits me. I like maxi dresses with cropped tees and sweaters with chunky boots. Or a long dress with a vest and a fun scarf. I dont want to look bigger than I have to but its great to follow your own style. So many cute tops I wear over tank dresses were ones I altered and cropped and they make a great combo.
The first woman to tell it like it really is! Thank you. Now that I'm over 70 it's even more obvious when gravity has its way with you!
That she did😂
Those wide legged jeans took me back to the ‘70’s. I loved that look in my 20’s.
I can totally relate Lisa! I have specifications about what I wear so it's flattering on me. Just because it's trendy doesn't mean it's for me 😕
Hey Lisa luv your truthful podcast, right up my alley :)
This was soo helpful. thank you!
Hello how are you doing?
Ty beautiful Lisa❤ Comfort and flattering is the key
Love your ideas. Especially love the last one with the square neckline.
You so hit the nail on the head! I personally don't think you're being critical of yourself, I think you hit a certain age and you realize what you need and don't need. It doesn't mean that you can't be stylish or sexy, its just that strapless bras are so uncomfortable! I'm 54 and gave those up 15 years ago. And the new boxy shape, looks great on some people, but on me it's not flattering or comfortable. I am so here for you Lisa!!💚
Hi 👋 how are you doing?
Thanks for sharing about your hysterectomy- I am 8 weeks after mine and I totally see my body changing. Appreciate keeping it real!
Really enjoyed your video. I was noticing your bookcase and it looks like Bobbsey Twin books in the background! I read all those books as a child. I still have those books. (I am 61).
Thank you for EverEve suggestion, I definitely will shop.
I love your honesty and your ideas are spot on.
Thank you 😊
Really relate to rib knits emphasizing my chest when the rib stretches across the bust line. And tight T shirts are a thing of the past. A good bra helps with most tops but not rib knits or tight Ts. I am tall and can wear wide legged jeans. Love ‘em. Long or 3/4 sleeve ,V or scoop neck tops & lightweight knit sweaters that land at or below the hip are slimming and a staple in my wardrobe. When I find a well fitted top, I buy it in multiple colors. Almost becomes a uniform. Lol.
I can relate! So so funny! You made me laugh 😂 Thank you! I needed that😂
I love your transparency and honest!
You’re too hard on yourself- you’re absolutely beautiful- great healthy hair-smooth complexion-I do agree with you on the V-Neck tops! 🙏💖🌹
I never comment on videos, but feel compelled to thank you. I also had a total hysterectomy a few years ago and what you said is so true! It feels like everything has shifted into that cavity. I’m so much wider. I stopped all high impact exercises for fear of pelvic floor issues, so that doesn’t help with not burning calories like before that surgery. I just bought petite NYDJ on sale and love them because my rear end needs some lift now too 😅 Thank you for videos!
I am new to your channel and really like your specificity (e.g., smocking, balloon sleeve) instead of simply referencing a silhouette . (I'm NOT a Vogue writer or in the fashion industry or anything...but I AM a former trade reporter and "get" the fact that using terminology correctly-in addition to providing the visuals-make videos like this even more useful.) Thanks for "schooling" me.
Such great video! Love your transparency and take on how our bodies look as we grow older. Yes we get thicker in places we don’t want but I appreciate that are real about it. I’m 52 and I don’t look terrible for my age im a size 4 in
Pants and small in top but no I don’t look nearly what I used to look 10 or even 5 yrs ago. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU! you make
me feel normal
Just turned 50 a couple of months ago. Everything you have on your reject list matches what I've been thinking. I've also given up mini skirts and skirts that are too long.
You are so right on! I laughed at so many of your comments because I so identified with them. I am 71 and thin and in good shape, but there are clothes that are just not attractive any longer on this old body. I was so happy to hear your positive comments on wide leg geans. I just bought a pair and love the look. They make my legs look longer, even though I wear them with sneakers. I agree that they would look really good with heels, but my feet can no longer handle any type of heel.
Hello how are you doing?
It’s incredible to me how many tops have sleeves that feel too tight. I don’t know if my arms have changed so much or the trend for fitted sleeves are something seen as attractive now. There really are body changes over time that change our sense of what looks good for many of us and and feels comfortable.
I’m in the same boat with you. I love V-neck tops too. Thanks for the video. Kindness, Teresa
I just joined your channel, enjoyed the video but I'm a year older than you and I do wear some of those things, because I wear them in a fashionable way that doesn't show anything odd, like cropped sweaters/ sweater vests look great over a longer shirt with shirt tails. Off one shoulder tops look great over a vest top, etc. There are always around it to wear what you want to wear x
Thanks for watching! It all has to do w/body type, like I said my best friend wears off the shoulder all the time, her favorite look! But they are things that I don't feel look as good on me anymore 🤪.
appreciate the voice of reality for those of us in this life stage who might be challenged with body shape changes.
Shapewear can help hide things some of it's a pain but can be worth it. I'm so glad I found your Channel because for the last month I realized there's something going on with my body it's goofy. I also weigh the same within 5 lbs for the last many many years. I absolutely despise my shape but there's nothing I can do about it
Thank you for providing attractive alternatives to still be a stylish older woman.
Thank you for acknowledging that "to each her own" is still valid. I am 85 and wear whatever I want....still.....and as long as I am on the planet. Guess I have truly outgrown "rules"....:):) Thanks so much.
I agree with you with the most of your items, and yes we change with time, even with some colour which were fit me
, now not🤭
Thank you! I'm not alone! I don't know why being over 50 feels so isolating sometimes.
That’s why is prefer going into my Macys and Nordstroms to try on items instead of ordering two items on line and having to return most of them. Maybe a video discussion on your favorite shoes and footwear.
Thank you for the tips.
❤ you look great for being in your 50s. I am 45, and learning so much from you. What you said about crop top is so true. Stoppd wearing them in my 20's. In fact, not sure why they are even back!?!❤
Lisa, I agree!!! And, omg, was I laughing at your description of where your chest would be in that sweater, same here! And the back bulges, what the heck---- that change alone is responsible for eliminating ALL sorts of items of clothing in my wardrobe! I like that you showed alternatives to the "problem" items----thanks so much!
Just wearing a shell or cami under your clothes will make it so that clothes drape over problem areas instead of clinging to them. Shaping camis are even better.
I think the best thing any woman can do for herself is find a trusted tailor to alter her clothing. That custom fit is everything. Lisa, you can always get a breast lift or whatever else you need to do to Live your life comfortably and happily without having to think too much about it. It’s that thinking that gets us down day after day.
I had that breast lift at 50! My skin is so thin, they dropped back due to their weight (I was 32DD before lift). My natural breast pocket is also just lower on body.
It was SOOOOOOOOOOOO painful while my skin stretched, like my milk coming in for over 6 weeks.
@@LisaMonique Oh I’m sorry to hear that.
I am in my late 70’s, I’m 5’3”, 105 lbs, I exercise and jog five days a week, and I eat a healthy vegetarian diet-but, boy oh boy, how my shape has changed! I’ve become a petite rectangle lol. How we dress and how we groom ourselves is an individual matter, but as we age, it doesn’t hurt to periodically re-evaluate; think about what makes us feel and look great.
Thanks for the great post! Gravity is a cruel master no matter what we do!
I totally agree and empathize with all of your reasons....
Interesting video. I think one should just go for what looks good to our eyes …not necessarily because we are 20 30 40 or 50 or above. We ladies are too hard on ourselves. I admire young girls who are no longer worried about their weight related to their clothes. Society really needs to stop judging our bodies.
I think we judge our own bodies by how things that fit before no longer fit 🤪. I don't care about what other people think, its what I personally think and feel based on my changing body!
Oh my gosh. I love this lady!!
Agreed!!! To all of it! 5’3 barely and 60, that was spot on 😘
On Walmart, Scoop has a beautiful red dress you might like. It is crewneck, is below the knee but has a subtle ruffle slit on one side.
Ooooooh, I'll check it out!
I agree... I am 54 this month and everything you said is where my body is too... I am not gaining much but body shape changes.
I agree…most I would never have worn because I’m only 4’ 10” 😊
Great video. I find I can't wear the same things I use to wear.
Bc I dry fast & fast daily, my muscles show more than they used to, I'm more cut, and I'm tiny. You better believe I wear tight tops and jeans as often as possible. I learned years ago that leather pants should be tight, mine are a bit loose on me these days. Love V-necks, yes, so flattering it seems on everyone. It woud all be a different story if glamour ever came back. Thx Lisa, love & blessings!
100% with you on the strapless bra, aka 'torture device.' In the hot & humid South, I'm aiming for as few layers as possible. Enjoying the camis and tanks with built in bra, but I know that not everyone can wear those comfortably.
Hi Lisa 🌷 👋 first comment 😀 thanks for sharing 👍 😀 so many fashions you couldn't wear I also can't wear 🤔🤔🤔
I second Everything you mentioned! Thank goodness we live in a time where we “mature “women have wonderful options. No one wants to look like they have raided their daughters closet😮😂.
And yet many women of an age wear clothes that don’t suit them anymore.
Great video, Lisa. I have experienced the same weight shifts, not gaining weight but shape not the same. KD
Our bodies certainly change over the years. Sad but it happens and we need to make changes. I love your Evereve selections. I've had a few Trendsend boxes and I'm impressed with the quality of the clothes.
Agree with you on all of these fit and styles.
I don't wear dresses anymore. And these days I'm rebuying the denim I owned in my late 30s and early 40s in SMALLER sizes. I used to be size 8, but now I'm sitting here in my size 6 NYDJ Alina legging black denim pants. Those were my favorite denim after the Hudson and Diesel years, the Citizens for Humanity and Seven for All Mankind, I had all of them. I did manage to score a pair of the original Diesel Matic pants that I LOVED. Now, however, I have to wear a belt to keep them up! I could barely fit into my OG pair back then, only wore them when I knew I'd be standing all night. Now they are my lazy day jeans. But seriously when I wore them to my aesthetician's, she gasped and said, "Girl! I LOVE THOSE JEANS on you, that belt, that low, low rise. You rock it!" Sort of having a moment I guess.
I completely agree with all of the styles you mentioned, except I do have (and love) a pair of wide leg cropped jeans. Somehow the cropped length takes away the widening effect on me. I do admire high necklines and cropped boxy sweaters on others, but not on me!
I actually have a wide leg crop jean that I purchased about 4 years ago but couldn't get to work on me, but I recently pulled then out w/cropped boots and they are now in my regular jean rotation 💕
I don’t do short dresses anymore. Even when my daughter in law’s recommended wearing it with s dark stockings. Since it’s always warm in hawaii and wi5h the menopause I’m always hot. So a lightweight long sleeve top is what I enough due to my chicken wings. And yup still clicking like a chicken. I agree a strapless bra is at a minimal for me too. I feel that as I get older tight and snug clothing makes me uncomfortable. Love the thoughts on long dresses. I’m a size large so maybe if I was a small then I would adjust my thoughts. But I’ve been at a small size and when I get I’ll it’s nit healthy for me. My doctor says since I’ve been at a size large I’m sick less. Excellent topic and chat.
I’m glad you didn’t just say not to wear this or that purely based on age, but based on what looks and feels good to you, or doesn’t. Also, if you don’t practice yoga, you should give it a try. It’s toned up my body better than any other form of exercise I’ve ever done.
My daughter loves yoga. I actually had back surgery about 14 years ago and had permanent nerve damage down my left leg so holding yoga poses send it into cramps 😩😩😩
@@LisaMonique Sorry to hear that, sounds awful!
@@lindacurtis7267 It is inconvenient, but at least my back doesn't hurt anymore! It was torture before. Though when I'm older and can't jump out of bed as fast to try and stamp out the beginnings of a leg cramp, I may change my tune 🤪
@@LisaMonique hahahahaha!
I'm with you 100% on not liking strapless bras. This is why I avoid those camis and off the shoulder tops. I could get away with it in my 20s but not in my mid-50s.
The high neck on this dress would also emphasize the wrinkles on my neck. Totally agree that a v-neck cut is much more flattering.
I understand wanting to feel one's best, but the self-consciousness of all this makes me sad and exhausted. Even "perfect" clothing won't go far without confidence, attitude and good posture.
True! But if you experience your closet no longer fitting you like it once did, even 12 months or 18 months ago, you notice!!! Because you have to go buy new jeans, I can't even pull some over my thighs anymore...same weight!!
I think it depends on the bod, lots of women who are younger than50 do not wear certain types of clothes .It depends on what one feels comfortable in !
Absolutely!!! My biggest changes happened over 50 though!
My shape hasn´t change much. I am 57. For me, it isn't a question of my shape changing, rather one of elegance.
Hi Lisa , Fun ….enjoyed this
With Wide leg jeans I find best not too wide
, a softer denim is best not too thick
Love them but yes I can look dumpy too xxx
Well considering what my mother wore when she was my age and what I wear are miles apart. I dress like my 33 year old daughter but more modestly. I wear fitted jeans and sweaters like my daughter would wear but I don't tuck my sweaters in.
Hello 👋how are you doing?
Lisa, you are beautiful and I love your videos! Just a suggestion - for outfits where bra straps are a problem, I recommend the "rabbit ear" adhesive bras! They help hike up "the girls" and you don't have to tug at your bra straps all day. XOX
I have never tried them! Thanks for the tip 😉
I'm 5'8 still slim of build at age 65, however, I cannot wear the things I used to and I still really love...
It's like our skin and muscle kind of don't stick to our frame like it used to. Even if you work out and have good muscle tone, our bodies still change and are not like they were in our 20's.
Wear what makes you happy, but keep in mind, it may not fit the way you'd truly like it.
Exactly! 💕 💕 💕
You are my twin for body concerns! Where are the designers that could cater to people over 50?! I’m curious what you think of the “tucking” trend. I HATE IT! They need to go back to making tops end between the waist and the hip! I’m so over it! Thank you for this! Made me feel validated 😊
I can only tuck if I can blouse it over, back down to my hips 🤪
I agree with all of these.
Thank you for the great video.. I'm 57, size 4 and agree with you. Plus, I'm big busted... I never felt comfortable wearing a strapless bra in my 20s lol.... Definitely not now LOL
