    One of the perks of being 80 is that I don’t have to worry about trends. The trick to looking good when you get older is being true to yourself and wearing what is comfortable and makes you. happy.

    Well at 71 years old, I am finding I am not as concerned about looking younger. I am struggling with not being able to do the things I did when I was younger.

    • @parishadnz.6048

      ..it's not about looking younger, it's about NOT looking boring and sloppy; it means giving beauty to the world even we are already an over aged.

    • @vilmaschambers
      @vilmaschambers 2 роки тому +17

      @@parishadnz.6048 , there is no such thing as ”over aged”. (I could say everyone who is under my age is ”under-aged”. ) On the other hand, style is not a matter of trends. I see so many boring, yet very trendy, uniforms in the street that it makes me yawn (and laugh sometimes). The beauty a woman brings in the world is not about clothes and makeup. A woman can shine through any clothes if she is happy and fulfilled. As to this film, the clothes Diana does not agree with are like that mainly because they create a disbalance in proportions or do not fit in terms of color. Not coordinating is something else.

    • @stayfocused1041
      @stayfocused1041 2 роки тому +20

      It is when you don't care about your age anymore that you shine the most. Being hootless and free makes you irresistible, even at 70! being self-conscious about aging and trying to fight it makes it worse. This said, stay fit, thin, eat clean and well and watch your posture.

    • @ileanamuntean7338
      @ileanamuntean7338 2 роки тому +8

      @@vilmaschambersIt's all very subjective. For instance, in my world, "cold shoulders" is considered tacky. Ditto, skirts and dresses with long splits.

    • @vilmaschambers
      @vilmaschambers Рік тому +8

      @@ileanamuntean7338 , for sure. In my world, so do vey short skirts (which we call ”handkerchiefs”), but for more practical reasons, like not being able to bend, if needed, without showing your underwear. But that is not what I meant. On style, you do not ”have to” follow any trends. Striped blouses and fluid black pants are quite classic and so are quite a lot of things shown here. Wearing a bag that does not fit the pants is a matter of style and personal choice. BUT that is not what I meant. Learn what suits and balances your body and you will always look nice. Learn what colors suit you (not necessarily ”a color of the year”) and you will always look radiant. Be clean and you will look good. You can choose an urban bohemian style, if that suits you and your lifestyle - not extra-polished, but may be as difficult to achieve (to look like you are fresh out of bed yet not sloppy). And I started from someone calling a lady ”over-aged”. Rudeness never makes a woman attractive or beautiful.

    Second outfit could be 'fixed' by adding a belt. I am in the 'wear what makes you happy' camp of style. No one needs to keep up with trends. Trends are not your personal style, they are the fashion industry's style. If you are happy and comfortable in what you wear, you are never 'outdated' or look 'old'. You look like you. The best advice - dress for your body type, not matter what your personal style is.

    • @dianagoss
      @dianagoss  2 роки тому +3

      I totally agree! It’s exactly what I try to explain in all my videos. As for trends - trend injection is a way to update your wardrobe, to have fun, experiment, try something new and of course just to be aware what is actual for the moment.

    I agree that as you get older the whole "disguise your body in baggy stuff" is boring and unnecessary because looking glamorous is not just about looking shaggable. For that reason, I avoid the "let's look like I don't care and mismatch everything" trend. I prefer not to look as if I've just randomnly grabbed anything in the sale and thrown it all in at once. My clothes are considered, quality and co-ordinated items and that's what makes them classic.

    Unlike negative (or skeptical or dismissive) commenters, I greatly appreciate this helpfully informative video, and I have no problem with the channel's approach to and attitude toward looking older. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being older and looking it, but why why not be conscious of the differing impressions that certain shapes and color combinations create? Why unknowingly exaggerate looking older, when it's just as easy and comfy not to look older? I find that this video immediately empowers me to take basic actions without purchasing a single thing, even though I don't possess this person's physique, and never will. Clothes and style don't make the person, but my experience here in NYC repeatedly reminds me that my style DRASTICALLY affects the impression I make out there among strangers, and also among friends. When my style is, let's say, sharper, the vibe directed at me is simply more positive. As for the impression that others' appearance makes upon me, I don't go around noticing negatives, as people's humanity is more important to me than their appearance. But I DO notice positives -- a fresh haircut, a flattering top, a cool bag, an overall "together" look, etc. Over the holidays (Dec. 2022), the rare sight of a beautifully attired older couple one evening on the subway was so striking that I interrupted them to compliment them, and when I did, it turned out that the rest of our end of the subway car agreed with me -- because they all started complimenting the couple, too. I mean, just by their look (I wish I had taken a photo!) they made such a positive contribution to the well-being of me and my fellow subway travellers. It wasn't that they were ostentatious. It was rather that they were put together -- both individually and as a pair -- with a few special notes that made their overall appearance sing, as it were. Anyway. Thank you, channel, for your video. I appreciate it!

    Thank you for the style update tips. I think they are especially good for a taller, thinner body type. I love the little brown bag style purse and the short heeled sling backs. Sling backs are hard to walk in, because they tend to flip flop in the back, but are so cute! Where I live, slit shoulder tops are already out, but perhaps they are sill fashionable where you live? I've been able to "fix" a couple of slit shoulder tops I found on the sales rack by simply sewing up the slits. It doesn't work for every top, but if there's enough material in the shoulder, you can sometimes get a nice top at a very low price!

About 20 years ago I purged all of mine and instantly looked better-proprtioned, thinner and younger. I tuck in all my tops and don’t wear those long sweaters, either. I like “cropped” ones, they just cover my waistband, because I’m short. Also, any capri pants must go.

    This all looks so great, however, my face sure doesn’t look that young, never will now. Everything was shown on women who do not have the “mature” figure that most of us have. My body is never going to look that way again. None of those clothes would look good on a petite person unless they were made proportional in the first place. A mini skirt at our ages? Not that many of us could would try to do that. Gucci bag?😂😂 I prefer to have food on the table. All of this is lovely, but this is not for a lot of our real worlds, only for women who can afford it and move in those circles. Where I can afford to shop, what is available there makes it extremely difficult to follow these rules. I loved watching this, but would appreciate some real world make overs. I’ll get downvoted and negative replies, so be it.

As for designer bags, I refuse to spend that kind of money - you can get a nice bag in an attractive style for little money. It's about the shape of the bag. I also shop second-hand - stores and online - lots of great clothing being sold by people. The only thing I buy new anymore is shoes.

    I am 71 but I like looking younger. I lived for years looking older. I do lean toward comfort though. This is a good video and helpful. The orange top definitely explains warm and cool tones. I am very into wearing colors flattering to my undertone. Makes me feel good.

    There was nothing wrong with the boots and bag in the last outfit; they just didn't go with the dress because they're too heavy. They would look great with a pair of jeans and a more casual look. Chelsea boots never go out of style!
    Trends aren't a gateway to looking good; you should wear what suits you and your own style (if you are fortunate enough to have found it - I haven't).
    Everything looks good on Diana, including the lovely orange jumper.

      Trends are not anyone's personal style. They are the fashion industry's style. Wear what makes you happy, dress for your body type and you will look fabby.

      It’s not about how to look younger, more how to look your best by not dressing the way that makes you look dated and older than you are. I think we live in such a beautiful time that women are not age limited anymore, and I a lot of women show how you can look fabulous and feel super confident and inspired at any age, it’s really motivating. Totally agree with ur approach on positive thinking 🤗
