    I've been working with the Presonus 24.4.2 & iPad controller for a while now. I ran into a few bugs with the latest upgrade and Qmix. This video does a great job of how to set things up, and I am going to get a Linksys router like this to see if it gets rid of my remaining bugs! When it works, it is THE BOMB! One request; could you do a video on how to save & recall scenes using the Universal Control software? Thanks!

    Hey Erick,
    You wont be able to use the iPhone as a wireless receiver. You'd have to get a conventional wireless in-ears transmitter and beltpack receiver to do that. The iPhone serves only as a pocket mixer, which is pretty cool. You can also use an iPod as well. So whether you're sending your monitor mix to a floor wedge or an in-ears setup, you can control it all with your iPhone or iPod. This is a pretty economical method when you think about it. You can pick up used iPods pretty cheap.

    I’m using a windows platform and downloaded universal control, did everything you said,but cannot see the mixing board, the wheel just keeps spinning, not loading, what did I missed.

    @jhinkens  12 років тому

    Oooops! I just caught this question. For some reason I missed it earlier. Anyway, I don't have a video on scenes but I'll see about putting one together. Not too difficult when you get the hang of it.

  • @jhinkens
    @jhinkens  12 років тому

    No, with Qmix on the iPod or iPhone you are limited to controlling only the Aux mixes. The permissions are set at the computer connected to the mixer. So the most common setup is to grant permissions of just one Aux channel per iPod/iPhone. To control FOH, you'll need an iPad.

    Thanks for the tutorial.. I've had a hard time getting my ipad3 to run SL Remote. I have all the connections made correctly, latest driver and UC control software.. wireless router set correctly. All works fine running my ipad2 but when I launch SL remote on ipad3, all I get is a grayed out screen and can't control anything. Any ideas. Presonus has tried giving me suggestions but I've tried all so far. Thanks in advance.

    I think I just got it after watching your video , so I'm not supposed to hook it up to the Ethernet port correct ?

  • @jhinkens
    @jhinkens  11 років тому

    Hi Heavenly,
    No, the setup won't work that way. You'll have to have a computer running VSL and connected to the StudioLive in order to take advantage of the wireless remote control features. Using the VSL program on the attached computer, you configure all the permissions for who can connect and what limits they have. The 'SL Remote' program is an 'iPad Only' app. Some folks skip the router by just creating an ad-hoc network on the Macbook. I prefer using a wireless router.

    Sounds like you've already tried all the obvious stuff. I should mention that Presonus released UC v1.6 a week or so ago. If you don't have that installed, you might want to give that a try. It's pretty slick with the integration of SMAART software and a few other goodies. Wish I had more info for you. I'm still running my old ipad 1st gen.

    I got the Linksys e3200 today and followed this video for the set-up. All worked with the exception I'm not hearing the audio when I connect headphones to the iPhone 6 Plus to monitor the mix with the QMix app. What am I doing wrong or what configuration am I missing?

    • @josephhinkens4157
      @josephhinkens4157 6 років тому

      Hi Taurus, the QMix app won't provide you with any audio. It is merely for 'controlling' the monitor mix levels from the mixer. You'll have to connect either a wedge floor monitor (or a speaker of some type) or a headphone amp to the mixer in order to hear audio. You can go with something as simple as a 'Behringer P2 Ultra-Compact Personal In-Ear Monitor Amplifier' or something more elaborate like powered speakers, a wireless in-ear system, etc. I hope that helps. Joe

    • @TaurusCousins
      @TaurusCousins 6 років тому

      Yes, that certainly does. I'll get the in-ears. The muscians will love the fact they can control their own mix.

    ...so how do you set up the router to communicate with the iPad? I had hoped this vid would explain this detail as the rest I can figure, but some guidance on IP addresses etc. would be greatly appreciated. Or alternatively, a sign-post to where I can find it myself?

    • @jhinkens
      @jhinkens  8 років тому

      +Feedbackboy1
      You shouldn't need to mess with any IP addresses unless you're setting up your wireless router for the first time. If you are setting up your wireless router for the first time, just Google 'setting up a wireless router' and then find the instructions for your particular router. As for connecting your iPad to the wireless router, simply tap 'Settings' on your iPad followed by 'Wi-Fi' and then look for the name of your router to appear. Click on your router and enter your password if you created one during setup. That's it. Once connected you can launch your Studio Live Remote software on your iPad. Check out the example I gave at the 6 minute mark in the video. That should get you going.

      +Feedbackboy1 the wireless device ( ipad / iphone )will see the router. I'm trying this in a week. a drummer I work with wants to control his own mix. this video was great help to me as I have an old macbook with lion on it. I bought the macbook specifically for use with this particular console. I'm down with any musician controlling their mix. Less crap for me to deal with while mixing house.

      Not sure on that one Jonathan. Be sure and check to see that you have the latest firmware on the mixer, along with the latest Presonus software on your MacBook and iPad. It sounds like the issue is with your iPad, but all the components need to be running the updated version of software/firmware.

    Hi here is my configuration :
    Mac book pro OS X yosemite 10.10.5
    Studiolive 16.0.2
    Connection with firewire on my macbook
    The Mac sees the studio live mixer via ad hoc networking but when i use an ad hoc network connection on the mac the ipad can't see the studio live mixer in the SL remote app.
    I think there's something that blocked my ipad.
    Is it a TCP/IP address problem ? cause the ipad IP address is : 169.254.234.xxx
    and the mac is under 192.168.1.11
    i can control everything from my mac via universal control but my ipad doesn't see the mixer at all ???
    Can you help me please ?
    Thanks a lot

      +Kevin Ruelle Hi Kevin, I remember wrestling with an ad hoc network with the Macbook a few years ago and it was sketchy at best. I'd recommend spending a few bucks on a router/wireless access point. I'm pretty sure that will remedy all your issues.

      This video was specific to the Presonus setup but most current digital mixers offer a similar wireless control function. In many cases, Presonus included, the wireless control setup is easier to setup and use now than compared to five years ago.

      @@jonathanjeromejohnson5533 Hi Jonathan, I may need a little more info on your setup. What model of StudioLive are you running? If it's an older legacy model, then it's offered with Firewire only. If it's a newer model, then it's offered with USB connectivity. So I'll assume you have any older StudioLive with Firewire connectivity. Since you mentioned you're running a PC, then it's unlikely that it has a stock Firewire port. So if that's the case, you'll need to add a Firewire card to work. Here's an example of what I think you'll need: www.amazon.com/Profile-PCI-Express-Firewire-Chipset-SD-PEX30009/dp/B002S53IG8/ref=sr_1_6?crid=25CUXMYQ9E9KQ&keywords=firewire+card+windows+10&qid=1553473626&s=gateway&sprefix=firewire+card%2Caps%2C190&sr=8-6
      Originally, I thought that perhaps you could get a USB/Firewire adapter but from what I've read, that won't work with the StudioLive. For another option, you might consider giving the great folks over at Presonus a call to verify my recommendations. They can get you sorted out easily. Thanks, Joe

      @@jonathanjeromejohnson5533 Yep, that one's Firewire only. I think your options are getting that Firewire card I mentioned above, or finding an older Mac or PC with firewire already built in.
