Quick tip for backpacks and visibility: if your backpack is too visible you can also - in an SHTF situation - cover it using a raincover in a more dark color - or even a camo raincover. The same is true of course if you have a black backpack and you want to be visible while hiking in the woods just put an orange, yellow etc. raincover over it. They're quite cheap from CN also :)
The Sootch light is a head lamp if you clip it on your hat. Must: largest water resistant light tarp you can carry. I use 10 x 12. Skimping on tarp size may mean a wet night and/or wet gear. You can also use it to hide gear, or as a liter.
try a 5 × 8 Etowah brand tarp and a bivee bag both fold up smaller than a paper back book and weigh nothing a hammock is also nice and gets you up off the ground Kammock from Austin Tx. are super durable and light af
For field work, a light with an ultra-low setting like 5 lumens is very helpful. 5 lumens is plenty of light, after your eyes have adjusted to the dark. If you turn on a really bright light, it will take your eyes about thirty minutes to re-adjust to the dark. It is also helpful if the light starts at the low setting and then increases. Conversely, tactical flashlights, like those geared to CQB, then you want a bright light with momentary on-off, using the brightest setting.
I bought a simple, solid Brazos Walking Stick... running about $30. Wrapped the top foot in multi use Survival Paracord. For me it's been a great purchase.

Just watched this episode after dinner here in Australia 😀 The question about passports seemed to take you guys by surprise?? I am a citizen of Australia and also New Zealand and have two passport’s. You never know when travelling abroad if one could become compromised but I do know of others with even more nationality’s. A friend has Au, NZ and also Swiss citizenship. It’s a subject I have not seen you discuss on the show! Great work guys😀 Shawn
Well, as Sootch said. We only have two choices for crossing boarders, here in the USA. Canada or Mexico. And where we live in the S.E. USA, we could possibly escape to the Bahamas or Caribbean islands. While traveling abroad, people can't normally carry all EDC essentials they discuss. Especially guns, ammo or knives! Most EU countries & Canada frown on their own citizens carrying such items, not to mention a visiting traveler.
the 2024 F150 hybrid gets 25mpg city and highway and if you can stand to be seen driving one the ford maverick hybrid gets 42 city and 33 highway according to Kelly blue book. So you can have a larger trunk (cause lets be honest these arent trucks they are 4 door cars with an open 5ft trunk) and still get decent gas mileage.
I was looking at HAM but after talking with a guy I work with who's got his General license (the second of 3 levels) I really dont need all of that (he says right before he finds out he needed all of that and more....). So I decided to stick with GMRS radios. They require a license but there is no test. You just pay uncle sam $35 and you are good for 10 years. Plus they can use repeaters as well just like HAM so you can get comms back to your base station. And short of finding out what happened on a global scale I really dont need to communicate more than that.
After studying the HAM course twice and giving up twice, I finally realized that all I want to do is listen. But GMRS sounds so much better, and I thank you for your recommendation. I know now that's what I want to do.
Crap, missed it. Hey Don, I just received the Sootch edition Fortitude 2 knife and I have the Sootch edition Arkfeld on order. The knife is REALLY NICE! I am enjoying it and glad Olight teamed up with you. Thanks. Patrick
My SHTF vehicle is a Trailblazer with AWD, 2WD, 4WDlow and 4WDhigh. Also I have a trailer hitch on it and I have a utility trailer, plus a luggage rack on top of the Trailblazer. Although I plan to bug in with my Team that will be here when SHTF and neighbors.
This is what can be frustrating with the prepared community on UA-cam. I get it ideally. You want to live out in the country and have like-minded neighbors but realistically, most of us live in suburban neighborhoods. Chris dwhlet when he would be on survival dispatch and podcasts talked about this often. A bigger discussion needs to be had with Neighborhood/community Preparedness. If s h t f ever does happen majority of people in neighborhoods and small towns in the Cities would not have any bug out location.
And people who think they're gonna head out into the country and live off the land are going to be very surprised when they find out that other people own that land and they don't want YOU there!
Pepper GEL will not be carried back into your face if the wind shifts. No, it doesn't make a cloud, but indoors? That's also a good thing. Remember, either one only has a two year shelf life.
Pepper gel is slower to act on the recipient. I use the Sabre spray that's a stream, and not an actual spray. they still call it a spray though. You have to know what you're getting.
Unless the wall is vary thin and your leaning on it no one with any thermal is going to see you. Maybe they'll see the doors or windows are warmer if the room is a lot warmer then outside but other then that your safe
Don't get a rechargeable head lamp! More than once, I've be stuck on a dark trail without light. They don't dim before going dead, so there's no warning.
It ain't that hard to Jerry rig the small power bank to headlamp in a pinch (been there, done that). That said, many well established brands offer triple A/LI ion batt option and has some kind of indicator of batt level . Me personally, I love petzl and Fenix lights
In Michigan traders require a CPL due to projectiles. Stunguns require a background check and are illegal for felons and those adjudicated Incompetent or IST or who took an Insanity or NGRI plea. Knives must not be longer than 3 1/2 (for pocket or folder knives) inches, not be Intended to commit a crime, may (for fixed bladed knives) only be intended hunting, not double edged, etc. Batons, trench spikes/knives, machetes, etc are either generally illegal or illegal in public unless in the process of working on a jobsite.

In a shtf situation there is no such thing as gray man, if you’re visible you can be a target. Even homeless people get mugged on a daily basis.
Exactly
That gray man whatever during SHTF looks good on paper
Prolly need to blend in playing the Gey Man these days, if you know what I’m sayin 😂
Don't forget about our 4 legged friends, they need a bug-out bag too
Five thousand likes 👍🏼
Pup needs recommendations on what to bring. She’s willing to carry her own small pack, but her human will have to help.

11:13 most urban areas and some states have arms prohibitions: it's not just firearms. Knives, dusters, saps, batons, etc.
Schools are not teaching map reading skills. Teach and practice map navigation with your teens and kids!

Great updates. Cheers from Australia.
A powerful small flash like is good for self defense because you can use it to temporarily blind an attacker.
"Diversity" breeds adversity!
