      Best compliment. Thanks. I spent lots of time chasing wind when we get to Maui. Sucks if you have limited days and don't know where to launch. There's an old web page for kitesurfing that outlined kite beach and the rules. Would be nice if they had one for wing foiling. Lots has changed since the kitesurfing early years

    Thanks for sharing. Useful info. Came to Maui last year on vacation with friends but did not bring any wing gear. That was a mistake. Couldn’t find anyone at that time willing to rent wing gear without lessons because of liability issues. Seemed odd since there were efoil rentals all over the place but ok.
    Walked along Kanaha and enjoyed watching a few very talented wingers.

      That's too bad. I was there December 2022 and rented gear. Hi Tech and Second Wind had rentals. There's a few that rent. Next time bring the wings and foil but rent a board.

      @@aquaman1 Yep. Wings, foil, mast and maybe a blowup board. A few of those are starting to appear in the resale market. Couldn’t justify paying full price for something I will only use while on vacation.

    All these spots work during January with Kona wind as well?

    • @aquaman1
      @aquaman1  2 місяці тому

      These are all north shore beaches. None of them work with Kona south winds. Some people ride the harbor but it will be gusty and make sure you don't drift out into the ocean. There's a couple locations on the South side. There's lots of shallow reef rocks on the south shore, so you need to know where to launch and ride. We have launched across the street from the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge, on the ocean side. Enjoy!

    Great info! At what tide can you cross the reef with a foil when headed to ride the swell?

    • @aquaman1
      @aquaman1  8 місяців тому +1

      Any tide level at Ka'a if you stay in the slot. The other sites need better tide height.

      Nice time of year. A mix of consistent summer winds and hopefully north swells. You can't go wrong on Maui, even when there's no wind.

    There is a Morning No Kite Time Daily when the Canoes go out. Does the same Rule apply to Wingers?

    • @aquaman1
      @aquaman1  Рік тому

      There's an 11am not kite rule on the ocean. This is because the spear fishing guys are out. No sailing when they are fishing or anytime before 11am. The winds don't build until 11am anyway. I don't believe they fish in the Harbor so it shouldn't be an issue.

    In the harbor is there a tide level that’s too low for foiling? Any areas to look out for when the tide is low?

    • @aquaman1
      @aquaman1  Рік тому +2

      It's not tide dependant on the Harbor; however, there are some shallow areas if you drift too far downwind. You can see these areas on Google Earth. If you are learning to stay upwind then it's best to turn back at the red marker. This will help you avoid those shallower areas, make it back to the sandy areas and avoid any ships that may come in.

    All harbors users need to come to shore immediately if there is a barge entering or exiting the harbor.

      Are you allowed to wing before 11:00? I seem to recall that kiting was only allowed after11:00. Now winging is new and I haven’t heard if that restriction applies. Thanks for nice info.

      Every other winger there has their own story of how they made the move. That would be a good video to interview people on the beach. As a Canadian, moving there to work is next to impossible.

      99% of the wingers will be at these locations. There's other places upwind but you need to be advances and know the tides, shallow spots, currents, etc. Winds and weather are better closer to the valley. In summer months the advanced riders head up the coast to run downwind.
