Th400 works great for me 🤷🏻♂️ prefer it for street driving. Prefer the lower rpm and power required in starts with that 2.48 gear. 20hp is a pound of boost away so I don’t mind the power difference.
There may come a day or a different engine 😉 that I'll need it for. Really trying to get the car down to 3k race weight. Also be able to do refreshes my self would be awesome
Great video, I wanna to learn more about transmission tech too, I like your idea about being able to do the transmission work yourself. I rebuilt my 4L60e but want to tackle a 4L80e and TH400 at some point in the future. My truck’s too heavy for a glide though. Keep up the great work
I was really hoping to try and do my own th400 but ran into time constraint and just had it built. Powerglide is alot more simple it seems and I have a friend who builds his own to walk me thru the process the first time so I won't be able to make too many mistakes lol
Lol people have asked for pictures with me before sometimes without telling me who they thought I was. 😆 But yeah I've been called big show a few times 😂
I just got the car together and running again. It's not really an apples to apples comparison but it feels alot faster with the glide then the 400 on less boost. Keep in mind the converter was restarted, turbo &hotside changed along with the trans changing. I don't have any time slips but with what it ran with the 400 and converter to tight it's not a very high bar to beat. I just have to finish up getting the window back in and I'll have a video up soon. Planning to go to a test and tune next week if we can find one
Check out a re entry build of a UA-cam richard at precision transmission he just went through his power glide that's sits behind a 2000 hp nitrous drag car remember power glides like to boil off fluid
I can’t understand the dudes nowadays building old cars from the 1960s and 1970s that are heavy tanks. Then try to drag that weight down the track. Then wonder why the auto trans goes South no matter who repairs the trans. Or break the axles,or rear gears or twist the shaft. I lived thro the 1950s , 1960s and 1970s. Good luck!
The TH-400 might be cheaper below 800hp, but above that HP level, they cost about the same. For example a TSI powerglide or TH-400 good up to 1,500hp are both around $4,000. Also, there’s a good argument that a glide is safer because it doesn’t have sprags/roller clutches. If you hurt the low roller in a TH-400, the direct drum will spin at 2.48x the engine speed and will possibly explode the drum (at 15,000+ rpm)….and it’s right beside your feet. And the way the direct drum spins backward in first gear, stops in second gear then spins the correct direction in high gear is just crazy.
A th400 is a good option for alot of things even if it's 300 hp a glides gunna make a heavy car with 300hp bog even with a very loose converter. A 2.48 first gear helps smaller engines get moving
I have a powerglide on my 327 in my 67 impala. I love the glide!
Love the one shift with Glides. And that could mean 70-80 mph when it does..
With all of these changes you are doing the A-bomb should be really moving next season!
Yeah I just need to make sure I got time to complete them all before next season 😬
@@Dirtfloorfab you do have a lot of projects going on that's for sure! Lol.

Hey bud! Im getting ready to start my turbo 6.0 build soon! Would love to pick your brain sometime about some of my parts selections!
You can email me if you like it's just dirtfloorfab@gmail.com, I'll help with what I can
Th350 ?
How do you dyno a power glide ?
Any car you usually put it in direct. Powerglide is 1.8 reduction in first second is direct
Th400 is 2.48 first, 1.58 second and direct in third
Where is a Cheap place to get low gears for A4L80
Planetary gears? Not sure they make any affordable sets I know a close ratio set for the 400 is very pricy
@@Dirtfloorfab TCI transmissions $1000 for 1

At first glance I thought you was Paul White AKA (Big Show). I was waiting for a wrestler flying of the top of one of these cars.

LMAO
So how is the powerglide working out there for you .

Where's the dipstick on powerglide ?
They're on the front blinkers left and right, you check your blinker fluid and trans fluid at the same time
That's what the tech manual says, I've never done it myself though

Yeah I've been watching his stuff for a while currently building the glide for my car this week.

The a body is significantly lighter then cars today. No failures yet
Triple the money to get it close to the strength of a moderately built 400
I don't care one way or another
But my wallet does

Just because you can't afford it, doesn't mean other people cant
You only run a 300 horsepower or a little over you don't need a turbo 400. Turbo 400 is for Big Blocks that are carrying at least 600 horse to 1200
