    Home Depot will rekey for free if you bring your locks (Source: I’ve done it).

      I called my local Home Depot, they don’t offer that. Which Home Depot did you go to that does that?

    Newer Apprentice here, quick question : Where can I find displays like these to practice lock installation? Great videos, appreciate the informative content for locksmiths!

    Next question is - How much $ to come out and do the re-keying ? Vs bring in the whole lock for re keying?

      If you can take it off and re fit it then it is usually cheaper to just change it.

      If you have to ask that question please do not call a locksmith company to re-key the locks (not trying to be rude)
      Remember a LOCKSMITH 🔐 company will send out a LOCKSMITH 🔐 technician who needs to make a profit on top of the company making a profit so you'll end up paying a pretty penny.

      @@frankcorona9643 What you can't ask for a quote on changing the pins on a lock ? How about a estimate of time to do job ? How many customers will let you start a job with ZERO idea of the cost involved ? ** And yes I understand that tradesmen don't work for free.

      @@MrJdebest When it comes to re keying not really and most technicians will not go to someone's home for under $80 includes one re key lock and about $15-$25 a lock after.
      In many cases a lot of customers call for a quote to re-key usually just the front door which is 1 to 2 locks. So now you are looking at about $100 The customer always gets mad.
      What I am trying to say is only call a Locksmith when money doesn't matter and you just rather not deal with it yourself so you pay someone. If that is not you I recommend just buying new locks which will cost you your birthday party $25-30 for a good set (deadbolt and doorknob) Only takes a screwdriver to install.

    I have a question. Is it normal for a old door lock replacement to be £1000 BECAUSE I THINK I GOT SCAMMED. ( not your company)

    • @24hrMrLocksmith
      @24hrMrLocksmith  Рік тому

      Depends on the door, lock, time of day, etc.
      Check if the locksmith is licensed?

      @@24hrMrLocksmith oh. It was in the early morning of around 3 and it was an old door with an old lock. My dad said that the lock on the door was £40 at a hardware house called b and q and the lockman said its £600.

    I just went through this, and I don’t agree. It is NOT a quick job to rekey. Every lock has to be taken apart to rekey. We have a small simple 1500 square foot house, and there are still 8 locks to rekey. Doorknob and deadbolt on four doors. Also, the guy who said he could do it for us, and supposedly had seven years experience, spent a half hour on the first lock, and then said he couldn’t do it, because of OUR LOCKS (which are standard builders locks - nothing special).

      It is "cheaper" / less expensive to rekey the lock rather than replace them in most cases.

    Well, first of all, that's a dumb question from another ignorant person who didn't think it through (probably a liberal in my experience).
    Example: if it's a Home Depot $10 lock then buy a new one and DIY.
    If it's a $250 lock on a half-million dollar home... They don't care about money and will have it replaced (as per ACTUAL EXPERIENCE doing home remodeling & maintenance. I asked if they wanted the old lock and they said "No", so I asked if I should take it with me and was told "Yes"... I had it rekeyed and used it on my Dad's house.)

    • @cardiffpicker1
      @cardiffpicker1 3 роки тому +1

      Depends on what type of property, if it is a brand new modern home then it is a 50/50 split between replacement and re Keying.
      On an older traditional home (done many well over £1m) then the vast majority want to keep the original as it is weatherd the same as the rest of the furniture,.
