- Van life just got a bit more cramped as we have a huge bulkhead with us in the back of the van!! You join us today as we race across France, over the Pyrenees and continue into Spain (collecting a bulkhead along the way that comes with extras)!! We love living in this van but things are getting tough as we need to get home and get everything out to attempt the difficult task of exporting the van from Germany and importing it into Spain!

Hey Beauts! xx Sweet chestnuts ae lovely if you boil them for a few minutes.... Dry them off and score the skins to open them, Then put em on a baking tray, drizzle some olive oil, plenty of black pepper and salt. Roast them on a medium heat for about 15 minutes..... Lush! xx

Chestnuts over an open fire…maybe a coal shovel is a good tool……and when ready just a pinch of salt….yum yum
You can freeze them when they're cooked too.

Been a bumper year this year for sweet chestnuts. I go out walking on the tracks round here and it's like I'm walking on marbles there's so many. But being a lazy cook, I simply shell them, then chop one or two up fine and throw them in with whatever I happen to be brewing at the time. They turn liquid black, but add a really nice flavour. Bon appetit.

Hello Sarah, Charlie and Dizzy. Brits always go on about weather a very well recognised fact. The chip butty scene showed what a horrible claustrophobic windowless tin box effect van. Vinny is much better and has lots of character. And what a quote Frank Spencer Nick @ "THEY could've been weirdos" ??? Right well I'm off to follow the narrowboat pirate - now there's a very capable solo traveller who is also a good entertainer - the rum wench. Brilliant.

Slightly different comment, but I’m obsessed with trying to do something with my ultra fine hair. I love Sarah’s darker natural hair colour growing out, it looks lovely with her eye colour and complexion.

Yay, back in Spain! Oh my stars, the Pyrenees are absolutely beautiful! I've not seen such wonderful views before, you've made me a happy chica! I love Velton John's nickname, Spidervan...perfecto! I nearly lost my life and leg to a brown recluse spider, i just can't do spiders and snakes.

I'm sorry that there has been so much stress on you guys.. still, the highs & lows of this adventure have been quite the learning experience. Between learning train routes ... with doggies in tow, and finding lodging, and language and regulation barriers.. it's been quite a journey. Never a dull moment with the ExPaws. 😉

Babes get a humane spider trap hoover. I know u feel that was big but we get prehistoric monsters in this house. Being able to catch them and release them safely is actually half the battle.never leave home without one

Your spider experience totally freaked me out. I would have insisted all holes in the bulkhead were covered before I moved on. In fact, I wouldn't need the daft Spanish laws telling me to rip out everything in the van. I would have dismantled it myself, to make sure its girlfriend wasn't waiting for him somewhere.!!!😅

When taking the van apart. Take a pencil and make a light mark on the walls ect so you know where it goes back to.
I still don’t understand why they are making you strip the van. Just register it as a camper

That’s great that you’re having a van build party! That gave me an idea and I feel very inspired to because I have a van that needs to be finished and I couldn’t think of a way to get anyone to help me really around here there’s no one fully able. My family has been disseminated spiritually and everyone kind of spread out and hasn’t seen each other in a long long time. I think I’ll just invite my brother my cousin my son my nephew and grand nephew together and they can actually have a reunion with each other and Me and finish this van and hopefully get it running before the snow flies up here in Minnesota. It will cost me probably about 150 bucks of Butcher box meats and some frozen vegetables for economic reasons and a bunch of sweet potatoes for fries and I guess I’ll have a bunch of snacks handy. I’m going to ask them to bring their own coffee. My brother sells Isagenix, so he can bring a bunch of samples for us. Thanks for inspiring me.🙋🏼♀️🙌🏻💥🫶🏻🕊✨

Cut a cross in the sweet chestnuts skin and cover with a loaf tin before putting them in a hot oven,the tin catches any exploding bits.❤

Are you absolutely sure those are sweet chestnuts you gathered? They look more like the beautiful but inedible buckeyes I grew up with in Ohio and saw again when living in Zurich. They might also go by horse chestnuts or maybe conkers in the UK? Just be extra sure they're the edible chestnut before you spend any more time prepping them. Interesting (and kinda gross) side note-- my dog must have swallowed a buckeye at some point while in Zurich (admittedly we did play fetch with them) and pooed it out two years after we'd move back to the States and lived nowhere near buckeyes! So also not digestible apparently. Poor guy:( Moral of the story-- don't play fetch with buckeyes, chestnuts, or whatever they are!

We did your current journey in reverse just 2 weeks ago. If you haven't been to Merida stop there, it's great - it's a ling day's drive from you where you are outside Zaragoza. Actually by the time you've read this you are probably already home. Happy to come down and help with the re-build, my qualifications are that I have a van and tools. I must caveat that I normally have to pay someone to come in and mop up my DIY mess #alwayslearning

I dont comment very much but i have to say, ive been very invested in you guys getting your new van & all the hurdles you have had to jump over to get the van home.
I would never have thought it would take so much messing about and you still have to strip the van.
Its all knowledge & info for when we go further a field in our campervan.

Well when you first , said you would have to empty the van , !! Before you got into Spain. .. you haven't ,
That's why I said , how are you going to do it , so you are now in Spain .. so it looks like you are going home , then as you said in the vlog , " a rebuilt party " , so at your home you will take everything out !!!!, & take it to get it in ported into Spain, , then , rebuilt the van to as it is (ish ) now !!! , OK, that's better than I thought , so good luck ,, will be watching ...
For accurate and detailed explanations of importing a part converted van into Spain from another EU country and getting it registered the Expawers haven't done a great job.
Hey there, so glad you finally made it back to Spain, a what a beautiful medieval town it is, I’d love to go there, but I doubt it would be wheelchair 🦼 friendly 😂😂😂 god all those cobblestones… Perish the thought… I wouldn’t want a place like that spoiled by adaptions so I’m not suggesting anything before other’s comments flood in 😂😂. You four are legends, it has been a stressful few months for you all but you are touching it out. Nothing is free in this world, but you have a solid van and perhaps you may find the rebuild won’t be that bad. I would be pissed off about all the work you did in the washroom though. Good news - I noted you haven’t any windows ! Make sure you get accurate written requirements for the import of your specific van please before you start the process. Looking forward to seeing you all safely home again.

My wife puts chestnuts all around the house as they are supposed to keep the spiders at bay, she pricks them first, mind you if you have any little mice’s as we do in our house occasionally, they love to play football with the chestnuts bashing against the skirting board.😉😎

Yes it looks mad but works! I'm in an old cottage in rural place, only had a few tiny spiders - in 4½ years....

Hey Simon, yeah we could have taken the bulk head out and slid under van when parked up but it’s pretty heavy and awkward to move in and out and the weather was pretty crap with constant showers so not ideal 😅
And fill up with critters😂

Make sure you take enough photos/videos when you're taking the parts apart. Label everything so it won't be a big drama putting everything back in again ;) And of course, it's the time to check the insulation and make any changes that you'd like! Could be even a bit positive having to take everything apart....
