Yeh I think my plot is slightly bigger so they definitely need to re-measure the plots. I can say with every confidence that I am in no way turning a profit 🤣🤣🤣
Ooh goodness I have a cheap council allotment rent. Plot is 19 metres by 10 metres plus a front space to park my car & trailer my plot is classed as a half plot here so I only pay £20 yearly all in. this includes access to water taps apart from winter when it’s limited to 2 hours on a Sunday cos of potential frost.
Melbourne, Australia - the community plots are much smaller than yours, 10m x 4m. But each plot has it's own clean water supply & compost, coffee grounds, woodchip all included for free. Also we have a large barbeque & nice inside kitchen with all facilities & community room. We have our own honey bees & a community orchard with all sorts of fruits. There are multiple sheds with a complete range of tools, power tools, rotorvators & squeaky clean heated bathrooms. For all this we pay $120/year, all inclusive. About £60. I have a question please? Who is Mark? You mention him a lot, but if it's none of my business, I can respect that 😊
Wow - that's such a lovely set up! We have a few communal tools and (very) occasionally woodchip is delivered. Mark is my brother-in-law. He got the plot nextdoor to me just a few months after I got mine. I try to say 'my brother in law' every few episodes for new viewers 🤣 - I'm so grateful to have him on hand to help out with the heavy stuff! ☺️
I have a half plot with water and communal containers and toilets. These containers have electricity which is handy for charging power tool batteries. My rent per year is £65, but my neighbour who has the same size plot pays £90, the committee decided a year or two ago that those people who have had their plots for a few years didn't get the rent increase, which although I'm on the winning side I think it's unfair. Now that we have become a cooperative in an affort to buy the land which is under threat of being taken from us, they have said the rents will go up from January to be slightly less than what the council charge (we're a privately managed site) and it's going to be around £200 for all plots whether a full or half plot, which again I think is unfair. I have a feeling once they tell us the price there will be a lot of objections and arguments. Their reasoning is they need to be able to have a good amount of money in the kitty if we buy the land as a cooperative because we're each buying shares and if we want to leave they will give you back the amount you pay for shares. I can understand this but I still think it's wrong to only have one price rent no matter what size plot. It was never like that in the past.
Wow Liz. A lot of politics at play there... I have to say those decisions don't sound very fair... Yeh I can imagine there's going to be some unrest. I hope it doesn't turn sour for you... The electricity boxes sound great tho!
I was offered a new plot for £110, however it was only 75metres squared and they wanted the money without me viewing the exact plot, thankfully i said no as several months later the new allotment still hasnt officially opened!
@dogontheplot Our allotment plot works out about 250 square feet. Yes, we find it quite easy to fill up. We have broken the allotment up into sections to make it easier. We have two mini polytunnel A greenhouse and 3 IBC tanks to collect water. Shed with decking area and potting bench. And a compost area and a pond as well. Keeps us very busy.
Your plot is super cheap! Mine was £60 this year, with a note that it will go up by £5 per year for the next 4 years. Our association fee is £6 a year and water charge is £8.50 a year.😮 Love the squash selection, I grew the little gems for the first time this year, they grew loads of little squash on the vines and were quite tasty too.
Oh that's good to know about the little gems. Gosh that's going to add up isn't it, esp when you add on other costs like compost seeds etc. I try to think that if I joined a gym I'd be paying £50+ a month and I'd much rather be on an allotment than in a gym 🤣
They're not sweet like tomatoes. I only tried a couple because they didn't do well. Last year I grew pineapple tomatillos in the greenhouse and they were delish
Ah my trick this year was using sourdough starter - a little bit spread on cardboard and they came running!! It helped in the garden, but wasn't feasible for the plot.
Good morning to you. I pay £50 and few odd pence for 77 square metres for the year. Very fortunate in that my plot is literally right outside my back garden gate. It’s a Town Council owned area and one of 3 in my town. Have had it 2 years next month and feel very fortunate to have it. I really love growing, trying new things and have learned so much from great channels like yours in this time. There’s about 40 people currently on the waiting list here.
That sounds very reasonable too. Some people on our site have their plot coming off their back yard with a gate into the site and I think that's just lovely. We don't currently have a waiting list but generally as soon as a plot comes up it's taken.
That's so cheap. I pay around 208 £ wheras water 💦 is not included. Tapwater we have to pay extra. That's why I'm trying to collect as much water as I can in rainwater barrels. Some people pay another 200 £ for water. You can really not complain.
I really can't. I think you might be the winner for the most expensive plot. Sheesh. You must still feel it's worth it, but still, it doesn't feel quite fair does it?
On Ours they charge your rent, water, £7+ for "allotment association" there is just us, I don't know what that is LOL and an extra £20 and if you do 12hrs Hard labour over the year you get it back if your lucky LOL £1.66/hr that a bit less than min wage I let them keep it, Just remembered £7.31 insurance??
Gosh - talk about making it complicated! Our insurance is covered by the national allotment association membership I believe. Are you sure your committee aren't charging twice for insurance??
Sheeeeesh!!! There is so much variation from site to site! I'd prob still feel it was well worth it for £120 but I'm happy it's a lot less! Does that include water? And other perks ?
@@dogontheplot Mine is a full plot but not the biggest on my site. Yes water is included there’s 2 taps on site we can use the water all year round also. I just hope it hasn’t gone up again this year still waiting for my invoice 😬.

I need an auto mute for commercials and wish there was such a thing. We’ve had a frost a week ago and hard freeze last Monday so it’s done. Still busy covering and uncovering fall veg as we climb once again to 80F. We are in a severe drought still and unbelievable after all the summer rain. It’s so dry now rain has a difficult time moving in. Lol, I sowed fennel first time and read the same to not plant near some crops. I may have fennel tasting carrots.😂. Very busy digging bulbs, saving seeds and moving plants and if it ever decides to stay cold I will plant garlic. It’s getting tricky to garden. Also realizing I may need a high tunnel to make it easier to grow spring and fall brassicas as it’s a pain to adjust coverings and I need wider paths to avoid tripping-too much coverings and clips and bricks🤨 The music was fitting for setting the frame😂. 😂just as you were about to say how much your allotment costs a political ad butts in saying “Are You Ready?!” We are all wishing our life away and want it to be November 5th so we can get out of this stinking madness here. Seriously it seems it’s went on for decades. Not bad cost including water as many don’t have it. And a catalog to boot-WooHoo! The squash and tomatoes didn’t do well, but the peppers went bonkers! Would you like some?😅. It’s like pushing zucchini 😅.
Sorry the adverts aren't great at the moment Dusty. I can only imagine! Escape to the garden - you might have to be there a while tho!! Still it sounds like you've plenty to do. The weather is just going to get more and more unpredictable isn't it. I feel so much for those whose homes and livelihoods are being affected.
How much do you pay for your allotment plot, if you have one?

£5 full plot no water etc. Suffolk. It may go up this year.

Ah not bad for two plots then. That's a lot of growing space! Do you find it easy to fill?
@dogontheplot Our allotment plot works out about 250 square feet.
Yes, we find it quite easy to fill up. We have broken the allotment up into sections to make it easier. We have two mini polytunnel A greenhouse and 3 IBC tanks to collect water. Shed with decking area and potting bench. And a compost area and a pond as well. Keeps us very busy.
@@Allotment321 I can imagine!!! That sounds like a really lovely set up tho ❤️
Your plot is super cheap! Mine was £60 this year, with a note that it will go up by £5 per year for the next 4 years. Our association fee is £6 a year and water charge is £8.50 a year.😮
Love the squash selection, I grew the little gems for the first time this year, they grew loads of little squash on the vines and were quite tasty too.
Oh that's good to know about the little gems. Gosh that's going to add up isn't it, esp when you add on other costs like compost seeds etc. I try to think that if I joined a gym I'd be paying £50+ a month and I'd much rather be on an allotment than in a gym 🤣
@@dogontheplot yes, definitely better than the gym and so good for the soul too. 🍂
I've never tried tomatillos are they nice what are they like
They're not sweet like tomatoes. I only tried a couple because they didn't do well. Last year I grew pineapple tomatillos in the greenhouse and they were delish
@@dogontheplot how you cook them
@@ThatBritishHomestead Salsa Verde is their most common use I believe
Put Banana skins down slugs love them
Ah my trick this year was using sourdough starter - a little bit spread on cardboard and they came running!! It helped in the garden, but wasn't feasible for the plot.
I pay £25 for half a plot including water. Oxfordshire
Not bad not bad!
Wow that is a bargain!
I gave up my allotment plot a couple years ago but annually was paying £74.50 for half a plot 5 rods!!
Oh yes that's quite steep! It amazes me reading all these comments how much variability there is site to site.
my late dog used to eat radish, tomato's, cabbage and carrots dog iv got now wont touch anything
Oh really??? I thought Dorie might have a dicky tummy after all those tomatoes but she was fine! She likes carrot and kale stalks best ☺️
£20 a year for mine which includes water. So I've got two adjacent plots for £40 😂
Awesome 👍 that's a bargain for sure
£20 a year shared between 3 of us , it used to be £5 a year shared between 4 of us .
Oh that's gone up a bit then! Nice to share though ☺️❤️
@@dogontheplot 🤣🤣🤣
@dogontheplot they used to say we were in that unit I asked the national allotment peeps about something and they said that's for members lol
@dogontheplot I have just remembered an answer I got when I questioned, "You know where the gate is?" 😆 I'm still here. Some of them have gone
@@mrv8rick2 errrrr!!! cheek.
£140 full plot on wirral..
I think you're the winner got most expensive UK plot so far... 😬
I wish my fee for my plot was that cheap Kerry 😂. I pay 120pound for mine 👀
@@janesteel946 🤞🤞hope not!!
Ugh, can’t wait for this political GARBAGE in the US to stop! Nothing like trying to enjoy something to escape and still bombarded with ads-sigh.
Also realizing I may need a high tunnel to make it easier to grow spring and fall brassicas as it’s a pain to adjust coverings and I need wider paths to avoid tripping-too much coverings and clips and bricks🤨
The music was fitting for setting the frame😂.
Lucky THIRTEENTH comment.
