Greta video Kerry. You actually have so much growing, for how despairing you were only a few months ago when the slugs were intent on making everything fail. Tomato taste test party sounds fun .. for those who like tomatoes and Prosecco. I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear I like neither 😂 I’d love to know a few things… 1) where do you see your growing spaces in another 100 episodes? Big plans for the plot over the next couple of seasons? 2) With all the trials you’ve had with pests on the plot, do you think you’d have given it up if it wasn’t for UA-cam motivating you? 3) What’s been your biggest and most positive surprise about starting a UA-cam channel? 4) any plans to grow anything new to you next year? 5) when will you finish the greenhouse?
Amazing to think how while your garden as did with some of the hiccups you have had (rain, rain, rain). It is beautiful and so much fun seeing the tour of it. The coloured balls still give me a smile. Thank you for all the planning and work you put into these videos for us to enjoy.❤❤❤
The plot is looking good, Kerry and the plot library is a brilliant idea, especially when everyone seems to be respecting its purpose 💚 Your chillies a getting beautiful colours on them and really enjoyed the Nottingham garden festival trip....how did you manage to capture the squirrel? 😍😍 So funny to see you have a proper Prosecco and tomato testing 😅 That's the way we should all be testing the veggies and fruit 😂 An epic video to finish off the double digits 😀 💚🌿 Congratulations!
Squirrels EVERYWHERE Maiju. Can't walk for tripping over them lol. Dorie is in her element. Haha - yes, let's do a chilli taste test with prosecco - that might get out of hand 🤣🤣 Thank you Maiju 💕

Ah that's so great to hear - thank you for letting me know Hannah. I wasn't sure if it was being used by anyone - I'll make more of an effort to keep it updated now lol!
Yep, the season is almost done. We had 38*F also last weekend and high 80-90*F this week (upper Midwest, US). Hard to say what the temps will do this fall. If I can cover during those brief cold mornings the days are warm enough, but the sun is less and the plants know it. Too much summer rain and the tomatoes suffered. The mosquitoes were the worst and humidity was unbearable so I didn’t get outside as much as I needed to get things done. The weeds did well. I planted corn like dad use to 3 to a hole and it was fantastic. I see so many plant single and sparsely and they can’t get pollinated in small patch. They need a lot of fertilizer, sun and water. Right now the rain has been non existent and entering drought last couple weeks. I love the low humidity but it dries out even faster. Poor pup wanted to make a statement as star of the show 😅. Enjoyed the video! Oh, I grew Honeycomb this year as well!🎉. Big winner over Sun Gold for me. A late Sun Gold last year had a taste and texture of a grape and was off putting for me. Honeycomb had tomato flavor. I’m not a fan of colored tomatoes too much and black tomatoes remind me too much of the poisonous nightshade berries 😅.
Such a testing season, both sides of the pond. I'd like to say it can only get better next year.... but who knows!!! Ah, that's good to hear another vote for honeycomb. Dorie always wants to be star of the show!!!
Fab plot tour Kerry ❤ You've put so much into this video, including Festival and tomato taste test, great editing too 👍👏 😍 Poor Dorey being locked in the car, obviously not happy about it 😂 Dog Banned On The Plot, your new channel name 😂 Fab harvest, it's great to be harvesting lots isn't it. Keep up the good work 👍❤️ x
Thank you Linda. It's lovely to have things to harvest - I really thought I wouldn't be getting anything earlier in the season! If all else fails, Ill know that every year I will at the very least have tree spinach 🤣🤣
Can you loosen the ground underneath the pumpkin stuck against the frame so you can move it or just give it more space - maybe put some matting underneath it too 🌿
If you can get Tartufo tomato seeds, they have the same striking exterior as the black strawberry. And I really enjoyed the flavor. It’s prolific, but a small bush/planter size plant.
Loved the tomato taste test! Sungold and Gourmand were my favourites, but annoyingly both F1. A question for the Q&A: what is the best over winter cover crop/green manure you have grown? Huge congratulations on 100 episodes!
Good morning Kerry, oh I love mallow it is self seeded all over here 😂. Hello Dorie she says oh ok thanks 😊 grandmas it is. Wow it’s quite the jungle 👍👍 loads of foliage with hidden gems. It looks very sunny at least but I hear the cold nights are rolling in quickly. Can you pull up the trellis a bit to give it more room? My patty pans were quick underwhelming this year but luckily the zephyr and trombonchino made up for it. Excellent harvest Kerry and a fun festival to boot. Have a super weekend, Ali 🇨🇦
Haha. Love a self seeder!!! Sunny but windy and now coooooold!!! Bracing myself for the 2 degrees tonight 🙈🙈🙈 Zephyr and trombons for the win this year - for sure!!!
Another interesting video Kerry. I will be growing some of the varieties you mention plus our 'go to' tomato Marmande which is a large tomato and provides large tasty slices that fit well into sandwiches. Dory says he would like a cushion on that chair with the holes in it 🙂
Loved your plot tour, Kerry and the tomato taste testing! My question is " Do you plan on gathering Amaranth seed, and if so, what will you be making with it?"
Thanks for sharing the end of summer plot update - I’m amazed at how calm you are, despite all the plants being slugged and the desperate weather this year. Did you get enough to preserve something, or have most been consumed as you go? I’m both desparing and quite happy for the end of season. It wasn’t supposed to be this cold, but it was 4.4 degrees in my greenhouse this morning. So definately fall. It’s safe to assume the remaining tomatoes have to be harvested green.. I wished for more squash/courgettes, but nope. I have one small marina di chioggia winter squash, two decent kuri outside and an almost decent harvest of green courgettes. But it’s nice that this season is coming to and end, as well. I’m tidying beds, putting in a few new pallet collars for next year, planting garlic and flowering bulbs. Then this growing year is over, and I can start dreaming and planning for next year 🤩
I think in the end, I've just accepted that this year is a bit of a write off and anything that's grown is a miracle! haha. Yes, 2.5 in the greenhouse here this morning! Sheesh. But I'm hoping the plants don't notice because it is getting warmer again now. I've just bought daffs and the garlic is ready to plant out in October - so yes, focus shifts to next year.
@17:07 - I don't think those are Uchichi Kuri - they normally go yellow when tiny (then take an age to go orange). Definitely stop out the vines and also trim a few leaves near the fruit so that what little sun we get will help ripen them:)
Clare has said the same thing - so it could literally be anything!! I sowed loads of diff varieties... will have to wait and see and then try and match to the seed packets!! Yes, you're right - I need to be sensible and focus the energy on the fruit that is there. Adding that to the wkend job list!
My vegetable mallow in the home garden very readily self seeds! But this common mallow is so pretty and good for pollinators, so it's welcome at the edges of the plot (famous last words!!! 🤣)
Hi Kerry I think you have quite a lot going on with produce you should be very proud. You have done amazing things with your plot and it’s all so interesting as is your very long garden. You are so busy with everything and also go to work what an inspiration you are. 👍
Thank you Mandy. There's more than I thought there would be, tbh, and I am very pleased. I love pumpkins so I am a bit sad that it won't be a good squash year, but oh well - I hope I can at least get these couple fully ripe!
@@dogontheplot you have done well. My daughter has had a stroke and paralysed down left side she was 39 I am looking after her full time and my grandaughter who is 7 it’s very hard. For all of us. So couldn’t grow much I had lots and lots of plants I had grown from seed most got eaten or died as my husband couldn’t manage everything but we did get sweetcorn and beetroot in and squash and courgettes and poly full of toms. Only beetroot some corn and toms survived. I planted toms here at my daughter in a flower bed and cucumbers and sowed more runner beans very late. Have had 2 cu’s and all the toms turned out to be red cherry but are mostly still green although one or two turning now. We have tiny beans so I am not sure if they have time with night temps dropping. Our potatoes were rubbish. We had a good garlic harvest and a few onions and that’s about it. So stanley is just strumming to keep weeds down now and can’t tell where the beds were now😣but we have next year and I must concentrate on Katy my daughter. She is making progress but it’s very slow. I love seeing you in your garden and on the plot as I love following Jess plot 37 have followed her from wen she first started and also you. If I miss the question and answers can you tell me are you vegetarian vegan or do you eat fish and maybe chicken? Also how do you ferment cucumbers thatcher than pickle? We are trying fermenting blackberries well my son who is a chef is trying it and gave me a jar to look after. We both had so many blackberries. All our fruit never fails
Bless you Mandy - that sounds like a very difficult situation. Yes, sometimes the garden has to be just let go in favour of more pressing priorities. I think it is also really hard to adjust mid-season to changes and then it can feel like a list of failures, altho really it isn't - it's just that when you started these things you didn't know you wouldn't be able to see them through as you envisaged. We all need to give ourselves a break this year - but you especially! Be kind to yourself. Gardens get overgrown, but they're still there underneath. And yes, there's always the berries!! Thank you for your questions - I'll add them in!
found a couple more books the other day ... We'll have to have another meet up🤣 the coloured flowered beans could be Sunset. Tomatoes ... Juice them and make bloody Mary's to counteract the Prosecco 😂😂😂
Haha - awesome! I feel sure all the sunset went around the swing frame, but then the beans were such a fiasco this year could have easily got mixed up! I will do better next year Nick!!! Haha - you're not the only person to suggest Bloody Marys... 🤣
Wow, Kerry, 99 glorious episodes, i can't thank you enough 😊 You are an inspiration. My garden has given me so much joy these last 2 yrs. Yes, I've had big fails, but my little victories have kept me going. Currently, I'm also swamped with tomatoes. Really enjoyed the little festival and home gareen. Always such a joy to watch. Very inspiring and your videos always get ne bavk invthe garden rain or shinr! ❤❤
So enjoyed this video, Kerry and Dorie...the tomatoes are beautiful...a basket of jewels...so many possibilities, my favorite is to freeze whole and add to various dishes... ever have enough left over after fresh eating. My favorite was the "Pineapple" variety...yellow with red veins. Just yummy. The allotment looks great. Happy Fall...got my "jumpers" out too!!! Be well! 🌿💚☺️
Aw thank you Michelle. I roasted a few this morning and froze in batches but I've ordered some canning jars now... I don't have loads of freezer space. I do like 'sweater weather'! If only it would stop raining...
Brilliant episode Kerry - I regretted finishing off the digestives earlier in the week...😂 I think I will follow suit with a tomato tasting, I've a few new varieties this year and I keep processing everything together without comparing...besides...erm Prosecco! I used some lacto tomatoes to make gazpacho today and froze a few portions, it was a roaring success and will be a nice treat later in the year, so that could be an option for your excess. Of course that naturally led me to think about bloody Mary's...😋 Have a good week!
I know - I keep picking and putting in the baskets and then having to check back on the plant to see what they actually are! Mmm I did lacto toms last year - I could try that again. You're not the only person to suggest bloody marys 🤣🤣
Fab harvest. And I'm sad when I see all those yellow courgettes 😢😢 Loads of courgette and chocolate cake there 😂 Looking forward to seeing your mini sweetcorn
Congrats on all your harvests Kerry. The produce bags have been a real success too👍 Interesting taste test results and brilliant idea using a group of people for a more balanced result, taste being so subjective. Growing a similar variety of tomatoes too and interestingly found Alice’s Dream and Pork Chop in at the top. I am waiting for Sart Roloise to ripen still after a poor start (my bad)! Lucid Gem and Black Moon have been a winner for me and like you found Black Strawberry a little disappointing. However, I think it’s down to mastering when to pick them, as some tasted lovely. Agree and will also grow them again. I actually really liked Atomic Grape and Rebel Starfighter personally. I do wonder how much the challenging weather this season has played a part too? Ananas Noir and Atomic Fusion are on my list for next year and will find it hard not to carry most varieties I grew this year, although I missed not growing more red varieties 😂 Wishing you a happy Autumn!
The produce bags have been super, I have to say. I spent a small fortune on them 🤣 but should last a few seasons, I hope. They've definitely given a few things a fighting chance. Let me know what you think of Sart Roloise. Yes, I've heard good things about Lucid Gem and Black Moon too - might be adding those to the list... I've just picked a Brad's Atomic Grape that looks perfectly ripe, so going to try that at lunch and see if I change my mind about it. So many varieties to try, hey!! Happy autumn to you too 🤗
100 th episode question: I’m always thinking about what I can do better or bigger in the garden (much to my wife’s dismay 😂) next growing season, so have you been making any plans for next year?
Kerry.I could not see clearly whether your Tomatoes where grown in the soil of the greenhouse beds or containers of compost. The reason I ask is because my friend grows grows her Tomatoes in the garden soil and I grow mine in containers of compost. We did a taste test last year and hers tasted much better than mine. Could this have influenced your test..
Ah interesting! Altho I'm afraid I can't help because in the home greenhouse theyre in the ground, in the plot greenhouse they're in containers, and in the plot outside theyre in raised beds - so a variety of growing conditions which was not at all factored into the test!! 🤣 Tbh I think it's just not been warm and sunny enough this year to get the best taste out of the varieties.
You shouldn't worry about taste of the tomatoes they all rubbish this year. Even my favourite one are bit rubbishy. Definitely we had bad season for the tomatoes. Great weath for the blight and not enough sun for the sweetness.
Same here in upper Midwest, US. Hoards of rain all summer and tomatoes were stunted with really early late blight. Never had such a problem in all my years of gardening.
That's a good point (altho I also tried to make that excuse last year 🤣) - let's see if we can get a HOT summer next year and really get the full experience of these tomatoes!!!
Fantastic harvest Kerry 🎉🌽🌺🪴🐈⬛ and Dorie's just ensuring she gets credit for all the times she was excellent and let you get on with the work on the plot. What a Superstar!❤ Enjoy all the fruits of your labour, it was definitely worth all the ups and downs

100 eps how fast has that gone ? hope you're going to celebrate in style
Oh of course.... 🥂
@@dogontheplot yay!!!!
Fab harvest.
And I'm sad when I see all those yellow courgettes 😢😢
Loads of courgette and chocolate cake there 😂
Looking forward to seeing your mini sweetcorn
Fingers crossed for the mini sweetcorn. I ended up with no green courgette plants this year!
@@dogontheplot me neither, but I grew polka courgettes, advertised as yellow on the pack and they were all green but got all slugged 🤣
@@ericandrachallotmenteers defo the year of the slugs!!
Congrats on all your harvests Kerry. The produce bags have been a real success too👍
Interesting taste test results and brilliant idea using a group of people for a more balanced result, taste being so subjective.
Ananas Noir and Atomic Fusion are on my list for next year and will find it hard not to carry most varieties I grew this year, although I missed not growing more red varieties 😂
Wishing you a happy Autumn!
Thank you for your question Tony!
Any ferment you are planning to try first time?
Thank you Hannah!
Leave Dorie alone, stop banishing him/ her 😀
🤣 Don't let her cuteness fool you - troublemaker!! 🤣
@ She’s adorable, I love seeing her 😀
I guessing you are vegetarian?
Not sure if that is a Q&A question or not, but will answer now - I'm vegan (level 5 🤣)
Ah true, true - she needs to remind me that other times she's being good lol. Thank you Therese.
