I gave up on wireless charging because my iPhone just kept getting hot every time, way more than with the usual charger or even the USB C one... And everyone bashed Apple for giving a simple 5w charger but it turns out they give the one that is better for the battery on the long time (so long for programmed obsolescence)
Only zollo can make charging-talk worth watching. I use wireless charging. At home and work. I've experienced burnouts with Apple lightning cables. So use wireless as much as possible to prolong the life of my cables. Great video, as always!
Strax Sal actually, there's a thread about that says wireless charging is bad for the new iphones because it heats and the charge cycle jumps meaning ur capacity will degrade faster
no its not accurate, because phones charge at at different speed at different % of battery, if its 0-40% it will charge at maximum, and 75% speed 40-65% and from 65% to 100% its almost charged by 50% speed
I’ve always been using the 5w charger even with my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I don’t use wireless or the fast charger since I charge my phone overnight while asleep. That’s what I did with my Xs Max which was still at 100% battery health when the 11 Pro came out. Speaking of 11 Pro Max, mine is still at 100%. I charge it whenever it goes down between 40-50%.
I just bought a brand new iPhone 8 a couple of weeks ago and I got a Belkin wireless charger for it, so I’m just wondering can we assume then that this extra heat can shorten the life of a cell phone battery? Has any of that theory ever been proven or documented?
Please use the standard iPhone charger adapter with the wireless charger ( if compatible) and then record the temperature. The idea is to know whether wireless charging itself increases the temperature or using a higher watt charger with the wireless charger raises the temperature. I think it’s quite possible that the temperature might remain lower if you use iPhone standard adapter with a wireless charger or Qi pad.(that’s what I do on my iPhone XS Max charging overnight).
Slow Mo Joe yeah it’s the best way to charge it, my iPhone X has 4 months of use with a wireless charger and it is at 99% i think I’ll go back to the original charger
Damn if this the case i need to get rid of my wireless charger as well. There’s no real benefit of the wireless charger it’s actually slower than the 5w charger and it heats up my iPhone
I took my iPhone 8 out of my lifeproof FRE case and put it in a otterbox defender case because of the heat of wireless charging. I use an Atomi charging pad 10W My work iPhone6s is in a Mophie charging case and it gets hot when using the charging case and its battery life is at 91% . I like the charging pads but I’m not sure on the trade off of a shorter battery life.
What you can do, is turn on the protect battery settings, which stood charging at 85%. Also when charging overnight, you can turn off the fast charge setting.
The only reason it heats up is cuz of the wireless coils for the transmitting of voltage. And when the phone battery gets hot it automatically lowers voltage into the phone. That’s y I charge with a case on too. My phone stays cool cuz my case is in the way and is getting most of the heat. If this makes sense
Safety margins are always included in those temperature exposure disclaimers. I'd guarantee that exceeding that limit by 5 degrees fahrenheit will not result in any long term damage. I've had my iphones in 20 degree weather, and have had them reach temperatures hot enough to become uncomfortable to hold when playing a game, and I have not seen any impact on my devices performance over the years. I'd only caution people to do their research well and know exactly what wattage their third party chargers provide as well as to make sure the cable they buy with it is fast charge capable. Informative video btw, nice work.
Best video on batteries! I was wondering in 2021 how a 5W charger would perform on the new iphone 12 series. As you nicely showed with usb the slowest the charging the better for battery life, however the new 12 series is optimised for fast charging and the old 5W charger could give unexpected (perhaps unwanted) behaviour under a test with the usb watt meter!
So you’re saying to charge your phone with an iPhone cable even know they keep breaking because I have that problem all the time I’ve got a real thick iPhone cable and it’s starting to short out
I have mostly been charging my iPhone X using the standard iPhone charger, but I’ve been using wireless charging a bit. After 5 months of use, my battery health is at 100%
I plug and unplug the lightning connector many many times a day. That wore out the port on smart battery case. Just got a replacement battery case from Apple. Now I only do wireless charging, coz i don’t wanna wear out the lightning port again.
Please do a video with the iPad 10.5 high speed charger versus the one that comes in the box. I have considered selling out the cash for the USB charger, but don’t want to if it heats up the battery like the wireless charger did with your iPhone X. If you’re able to get around to it, thanks in advance.
My iphone X's battery capacity is currently at 2750 mah more than original 2716 mah after 26 cycle, I got both wireless and ipad charger but I always use standard charger to keep it cool as much as possible !
I’m using iPhone 6s running on the latest iOS version. When I plug in my device using the default charging kit it came with, the indicator does not appear on screen unless I wake the device. It only happened after the battery replacement. Help?
Minol Fernando that’s what I was wondering too. Because on the cables, they have the chipsets that communicates with the phone to turn off charging when it reaches 100 %. I was wondering if wireless charging does the same 🤔
Do you think using the iphone wall charger ( 5W 1A ) with the wireless charging the temperature will be as high as your test? You use a fast wireless charging ( 2.5A ) i think it's normal to have high temperatures. i should come back to the cable or i can wireless charge my iphone with 5W 1A charger? 🤔
Used to charge my iPhone 8 with the old iPad charger but noticed that it used to heat up a lot. Especially because I have a case. So now I'm using the regular wall adaptor and the temperature is in control. That said is that safe to charge with a case on?
Also, I use the 5w charger over night and have had no issues...for me. Of course its a 5s and over 6 years old, however...will be upgrading in the fall of 2020....was hoping for a SE 2...doesnt look like that will be a reality....sad for us that like and enjoy the smaller size.
I think you could need both on a daily basis, like throughtout the day i'll prefer the magsafe to charge it faster but if i'm charging while sleeping i'll take the 5W
Got my iPhone on April 3rd battery capacity currently at 87%. Is that good? Should I change my charging routine like maybe try charging overnight or before going to bed? Using original charger no wireless. Please help
Aroan, Don't you know how much I trust you, but I'm confused a bit, some videos you say that you use ipad adapter to charge your phone, and in this video you say you using the wireless charger all the time. I've got Anker wireless charger from AliExpress because of you, and it works amazing with me and I have been using it since 3 days so far.
i have always charged my iphones with the regular charger plugged into my laptop's usb port. I just upgraded from 5s to 8, with my 5s lasting four full years. I've always been under impression that laptop's lower power is ideal as it supposedly charges phone slower vs wall outlet. As for test in this video using wireless charge pad, I bet the regular lowere 5 watt pad would be better long term, right?
I charge my iphone 8 plus with the charger it came with and it works out great. I haven't used wireless charging yet. Can battery health go up? I've had the iphone 8 plus for 2 months and it's battery health is at 95%.
Hello, Aaron! Sorry for bothering you, but I would like to ask is it really harmful to charge my iPhone 11 with Anker Powerwave wireless charger and 1A/5V brick? Will it cause any damage to the phone or battery? Because I measured the charging speed, and it is something like +10% for about 20minutes, which I don't mind. But will it cause damage to the phone? Because on the piece of paper you get with the charger, it says that charging with 1A/5V charger is bad. Thanks a lot!

I disagree with that tip. No need to do that. You can try and manage it or just plug it in every night and don’t worry about it. You might save 3% over the course of 2 years. It’s not worth the hassle. Every phone and every iPhone I have had is charged when I go to bed and left overnight. It takes about 6-7 months for me to drop 1% in battery health which is better than most.
Gotta hand it to you...like how you keep it fresh and new with the vids...I don't know how you don't have over 1 mil subs yet...way more channels out there less informative compare to yours!! Only a matter of time before you know up! Keep up the great work! #zollotech
It'd really be a hassle (to me at least) to rely on a slow charger, iPad charger ftw ! Also, a new battery would cost your around 60-70$ which is pretty cheap for your peace of mind (not having to worry about charging your phone the "right way") and 2 more years of use out of your phone.
Very helpful..thanks for this Can you please tell how long does your XS max last after a full charge? Can you do a normal day in a life video using XS max?

they could give us the option to turn fast charging off like samsung tho!
I like mine
I use a wireless charger but its not a fast wireless charger.

I know right...lol...love this guys vids!!
Strax Sal Saving cables! The first genuine reason I've seen for wireless charging!
Engineer Gingineer I’ve been using wireless charger since i bought my phone like almost a year ago still at 100% battery capacity
Why didn’t he test a 5w wireless charger? For anyone that charges their phone overnight, it’s a much more practical option because it’s not as hot.
Exactly i hv the same question!
Probably because we know that the 5w charger is the slowest, “safest” this that won’t create much heat
I have a question. Which is better 5w wired or 5w wireless for charging overnight?
@@srikarvundavalli5934 wired always better, less heat and more effective
The link seems to be broken. What wireless charger did he test with, or wattage was it pushing?
Great video as always. I appreciate the Celsius degree as well as Fahrenheit. I am used to Celsius : )
I love to watch your review man, your reviews are well supported with actual situations unlike others which are mostly specs based.
I love this video. It's brilliant, well thought out, and involves an actual experiment. Good work and thanks for the vid.
Thanks. Glad you liked it.

What about the 29W charger with the USB-C to Lightning cable? I'm guessing that thing would smoke the battery over time!
Rick Tierney iphone can only charge the battery at 18w. Its programmed to take in only 18w even if you have a 60w chargering brick
