Not many places on youtube you can hear someone say "I was the guy who bought these for your machine gun" to a younger veteran. Very informative video, thanks.
Those LMT stocks were all over the place my second tour. Kept the standard OEM M4 stock for many reasons. Also drifted the roll pins from the front sling swivel and used a 203 sight block sling clip. Ounces equals pounds.
Man, what a great thing it is that we get to watch guys like this talk about this stuff. Coch seems like such a humble and nice guy and Dorr brings a lot to the table every time as well. Thank you, gents.
My takeaway from this wasn’t the evolution of furniture but rather the importance of a fore grip. Many view it as a piece relegated to the dustbin of irrelevance, when in fact it was and still is a vital component of leverage. When professional operators speak on real world applicability of a piece... I listen.
Awesome video. Not being an operator, I never understood the purpose of the foregrip. But after Dorr explained it's uses in CQ fighting to retain your weapon, I can now see the usefulness of it. I've never found them to be comfortable to shoot with. But I now see it's usefulness. So, thank you.
I use a modified c-clamp with my vertical foregrip in order to pull the rifle tight into my shoulder only about a third to half of my hand is actually on the vertical foregrip
I went through basic and ait training at Knox as a Cav Scout we had M-16 A1's. My weapon was a tired old dog probably Vietnam era weapon, but was still accurate. Only A 2's we had were M203's and for some reason no one liked the 3 round burst. Our TA-50 then is now prehistoric.
I went through Basic at Leonardwood in 93. We used A1's in basic. When I got to the 82nd we had A2's. I think it was like 96ish we started getting the M4. I ETS'd in 99 so I didnt see any of the cool stuff. We just had straight from the factory M4s.
Coch: Why did you not talk about the Colt Delta HBAR clone that you had on the table? Inquiring minds would like to know! It did not have the Colt Delta HBAR rear stock...there was also no bipod on it....the 3-9 x 40 rubberized scope looked the same. The Colta Delta HBAR was the finest example of a Colt AR-15 ever made!
I hear it so often--"What works for you." But hearing these seasoned pros say there are only some things, like the buttstock, which really matter by choice, is so refreshing. So may other quasi pros imply or state you have to only go with the Big $ tacticool stuff. Well--no. Dave and Dutch have shown the same thing. I LOVE that Dave says using the M4 grip and buttstock are not only OK, but his PREFERENCE. Way to go, all of you!
Hey guys these are always my favorite type of videos. Just talking about the gear. Purchased my first rifle and am using tips to build it. So far have the Daniel Defense M4A1 with DD Vertical foregrip and just basic Magpul back up irons waiting to get SIG Romeo 5 sight and also a sling have watched your sling videos which helped out.
Don't get too stuck on the Kentucky go fasters. You won't know you screwed up until you have to carry that rifle at the ready for any amount of time. Ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain. Keep your tech mission specific. Don't need the peq if you don't have the nvg to go with it but seems like you're doing fine so far
I have really big hands and smaller grips are always a pain for me, especially when having to bend my trigger finger so much to actuate the the bang switch. It seems like everything else, I've come full circle on. Somethings that I've outgrown, I've learned to love again, especially quad rails.
Once you know what you like you can just stick with it. I like the bare bones magpul stock, a magpul K2 pistol grip, and the BCM gunfighter vert grip. All my work and play guns pretty much get that setup.
What's amazing is the exponential growth of available products and parts (let alone how many companies make AR pattern rifles) with the end of the assault weapons ban and start of the GWOT.
You don't mention that the -A1 triangular handguards were designed to fit any hand by sliding up or down to find the "sweet spot". They did chip easily, but were sturdy enough from a functional standpoint. We would tape them up to prevent rattling and they did make noise it you slapped it against a branch, for example, but I prefer them on the whole.
You mentioned that other nations would buy the A2 front handguard and keep using their A1 rifles with A2 front handguards. Well, Paul Harrell, notable guntuber, typically uses a Colt AR-15 A1 as his demonstration rifle, and his front handguard broke, so he replaced it with an A2 handguard as well.
Thanks for your expert knowledge and easy going presentation. I was in the Army once, but I’ve already learned a lot from listening. It feels like you’re talking to a neighbor in the back yard.
I am old school I guess, I just prefer quad rails over M-lock. All my rifles have either Knights or Daniel Defense rails. I have CQD sling attachments on most of them also. I bought a couple of the CQD vertical grips several years ago, they are in the safe now becoming collectors items lol, I use either the Knights or Tango down grips. Good stuff guys! I enjoy all your videos!!
Colt XM177E2 , Colt 723 , Colt 727 and Diemaco C8 are my absolute favorite Fixed Carry Handle Carbines . I own all of them now . Their ENHANCED Bolt are virtually indestructible. I can't remeber if it was Crane or CAG but they did 36K round test on one and gave up because they couldn't BRAKE it .. Dream Optic is NF 2.5-10×24 that NSW used MK12 MOD 1 SPRs. I have Centurion MK12 MOD 1 SPR URG and I want that optic so bad to have an accurate Clone Upper . I do need to build out NSW RECCE Rifle . I have the Douglas Barrel and Reciever . Just need the RAIL and Optic.. I could go on for hours talking about US MIL Small Arms and Accessories. I'm for sure a geek when it comes to Mil Small Arms and accessories. . Phenomenal video bros

Blackwood's trading company is who makes the wood composite grip. They make some pretty interesting designs for grips and stocks...Love that company as well as black guns wood.
In the early and mid 2000’s the VLTOR Mod Stock and the A.R.M.S. inc. S.I.R. rail system were the cat’s meow and the A.R.M.S. #40 BUIS was really the only game in town for flip up rear sites.
Cool. Love the wood. Your right, I have a box of spare shit, lol... I change stuff out, back and forth. Really like the sopmod stock cheek weld. ASR has a bad ass aluminum stock I want to try. Fixed and folding. Reminds me a a AK folding stock. You make great videos. I still want to paint my commando like you showed us how to. Darker on top, lighter shade on bottom I believe.
I like super aluminums, super steels, grade 5 titanium and polymer case ammo (talk about expensive, though). Ultra-light, but still something that'll probably work 100 years from now, like an heirloom. Interesting point about using the barrel to snap someone out of shock. I guess the spikey flash suppressors I like so much aren't so good for that.
Prerry sure the reason why the consumer market blew up on the mid 00s is because the “assault weapons” ban was allowed to lapse. ( because it didn’t do anything to crime) I was excited because I could finally get magazines for more than 10 rounds for my Glock 19
I would have given a brief disclaimer about NFA laws and putting vertical grips on barrels under 16" and that a vertical grip is one that is 90 degrees from the bore axis of the barrel so grips with an 87 degree angles are ok.
Some of the countries who "just switched out the handguards" included the U.S. I was in the Air Force during the first Gulf War, still rockin' the M-16 and even some 601's believe it or not. If you deployed at the time the armorers would switch out your handguards so it would look like we were using "the newest and most modern equipment"...... Nothing but the best......right...

Question: I know most of the guns they show are just clones of what they ran while in the teams, but are they allowed to keep certain guns after they quit?
very interesting stuff learned a lot of history on the AR type rifles. in Calif some of this stuff is ILLEGAL, I have 2 AR's Ruger and Windham Weaponry both had to be registered. They have the bullet button to remove the mag, they outlawed that evil thing a few years ago. There still trying to outlaw them completely an endless legal battle.

I put quad rails, slings, Hogue grips w/ beaver tail, and optics alongside iron sights on all my AR platforms. Thanks for the interesting video.

What about foregrip with the bipod that snapped down from it? Didn’t see that shown
I used it on the Scars. Now I just use it to sight in rifles.
It shipped with the SCARs we got issued, but they weren't really used

The M16A1 is what I carried while in the Army 1972-75, 82nd Airborne, along with a S&W 38 special, and at times a Colt 1911.
Thanks for showing your toys and explaining it.

(not that im a crack shot. just train) But as a gear guy, who loves shinies, im am sure someone has retired off of me.
