Thanks to Fiber Spider's gentle patience I'm halfway through the last row of this huge shawl. Biggest thang I've ever made.

A girlfriend sent me the link so I could make this for her and I have to say that you are THE BEST crochet tutor/tutorial video person I have come across! Peaceful and engaging voice...you are patient and witty...you go slow enough that beginners can follow in time...clear and concise while speaking...just awesome!
And now she has me making a blanket of this pattern!
Ultimately you have to make 2 shawls and stitch them together along the tops. I am 1/2 way done with the one I am doing for a friend. Each shawl is 10 skulls across + the section to close off the shawl. Instead of the chain 3 (including the ch3 for the turn), sc 1 across that final top row I did a ch1 for the turn and sc across each space (including the ch1 space in the shells) and 2 sc in the ch2 gaps. This will give me a clean/clear seam for joining solidly.
Ultimately it can be as big as you want by increasing or decreasing the number of full skull rows.
Hope this helps in case others ask about making a blanket!

I just wanna show my immense appreciation for this tutorial, I'm really bad at reading schemes and patterns, mostly because I never took the time to learn the abbreviations. And because I never really took crocheting really seriously. Ur videos have been a great help, the way u keep repeating every step was life saving since I'm a paranoid and messy person.

I have made many of these thanks to you Fiber Spider, and the one I literally just finished, I used a 2 wt baby yarn from Lion brand that I had donated to me with a H/5.00mm hook which gave it a nice drape,in a pink for a friend who is a breast cancer survivor, raising 3 grand children alone and she loves skulls, so I thought what a perfect surprise for her. This time for row 21, I did picots, and LOVE the way it came out. Thanks again for a wonderful tutorial! I'm going through my donated yarn as I can't afford to buy any right now due to severe health condition, and looking to start on your Tesselated Waffle Filet Blanket next! God Bless!

Thank you so much for going slowly and repeating. You made making this a joy. I am giving it as a present to my cousin's wife and can't wait to see her face. She posted a picture on her facebook that she wished she crocheted because this shawl was the most amazing thing. I contacted the original person who posted. She gave me information on the yarn used in the post. We all belong to such a great yarn fiber community. Thanks again! Happy Halloween!!!!

Thank you very much for making this Shawl. I had seen it before, but never thought I would or could make it. Than I received a grey to darkgrey Hobbii bobbleyarn and right away I decided to make this Lost Souls Shawl with it. It is the second shawl I do (dit the bavarian crochet shawl, after I just had started again with crocheting and that already has worked out very well, just like this one. I enjoyed it very much. And again. Thank you. I am sure, I will be looking back at your accounts again soon. Grüße from Germany, Bianca

As an experienced and published crochet artist, I am always looking for a new pattern from someone else. The Lost Souls shawl was featured on FB and my young friend asked for it. The work is excellent and I am so pleased to be able to say, "I made this". Thank you for sharing your ideas and your skill. I will be looking for and making more.

I love this pattern, and you make it soooo simple. One thing I've discovered...and it might just be due to my own tension...but when I close the gap over a completed skull, I like to do a chain 1 between the two shells. On the round after that, I make a chain 2 as per the pattern, but then on the following round I make a chain 3 to join the 2 shells. Then I go and make the 7 chains between the two shells as per the pattern. I find it makes the whole piece lay smooth and flat without any bunching. I am currently working this pattern in lacing yarn and a 2.65 mm hook to make a bandana. Wish me luck when it's time to make the straps, lol.

Thank you so much for walking through this pattern and making it so less daunting. I’ve been wanting to crochet the Lost Souls shawl for ages and even bought the pattern. I’ve never used a written pattern before and this kept putting me off starting. Your series of tutorials on this shawl made it so easy to get going and ultimately go to the pattern. I’ve made several mistakes and had to ‘frog’ a few rows, but I made myself return to the pattern to sort it out. Your patient, clear guidance made that possible. Thanks again🙏

I have enjoyed working this project with you so much and will definitely be joining you for more tutorials. I actually modified the pattern slightly for a very special project I was working on for my baby sister (she’s 44), and she loves skulls, so in my project I used a double crochet instead of a single crochet for the bridge of the nose, and repeated rows 10-18 until I had a total of five skulls across and then I finished it off with you using rows 15a-21. I then attached it to a the bottom of a rib band that I had already made, attached two cups with strings to make it a halter top and voila, one awesome top that she can wear day or night as I used King Cole galaxy in navy which has lots of pretty sequins in the all girls love. I think it would look amazing at a rave with all the lights flashing and sequins sparkling. If I can I will ask her for a picture of it on and post it for you to see. Thank you once again fibrespider and happy hooking xx

I'm a complete beginner at crochet and my son asked me to make this shawl for his girlfriend, yikes! Thank you, i followed all your tutorials for this and I'm finished it now, it looks amazing (even though it's not perfect). Your instructions are clear and you're very easy to listen to. I can't wait to join you on future projects.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo Thankful that you put this one UA-cam!!! I found this idea on Pinterest but the person who wrote it could not remember how they did it & I was able to give up on making one. BUT Pinterest came through & Showed me your video & I am one happy camper. YOU have taught me SO many crochet patterns & I am truly grateful that you share your talent with the rest of in a calm stress less video. :)

Thanks a million spider, just finished this for my daughter's friend to say thankyou for the support she has provided during recent mental health problems. She loves skulls. I did it in cotton twirls going from pale to dark dark green.

loved this series, the work looked so complex that i was stopping myself for months. now that i had a few days off, i decided to try it. after a couple of hick-ups and having to open the stiches, it was smooth sailing. i love the way it turned out. Thank you so much for the pace of the instructions :)

HURRAY!! I just finished this pattern while following your videos. It took me a good month to get my shawl the size I wanted but I'm so thrilled to have it done in time for Halloween and a little local autumn festival this coming weekend!!? Thank you for taking the time to create such an easy to follow tutorial series for one of the coolest crochet patterns I've seen in a while. I've been subscribed to this channel for almost 2 years now and every video is a treat!! (P.S. my fave horror movie is a black and white film called The Haunting. Its spooky and thrilling without blood and guts. Its haunting and scary without constant cheap jump scares. And it's based on a really well written horror novel)

My daughter loves squeletons. I made this in white no 2 fine cotton/acrylic for her wedding day. I hope she likes it, if not for her wedding for draping over a chair 😆 later on .
