I cant find the c4d file in this location, no file is being saved by default. Do we have to enable something in preferences?
Great it worked out. Never knew this shortcut for years! Even as OS X says Cinema is not responding anymore, just repeat the shortcut as long as the message will appear. At this very moment the scene will be saved. Thanks for that great help!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I put zero by mistake on a cloner's input and it froze. I went out of the program to look for a solution and couldn't get in again. It was in the back frozen. The shift+shift+delete worked regardless. Amazing. I have the project back as it was and can't believe it. Thank you a million times.

For everybody trying to rescue a project with third party plugin crashing the project even after recovery file:
move the plugin out of the library folder, so Cinmea doesn't see the plugin > load recovery project > delete what was crashing the program > save > load plugin again to library > done!

this didn't work for me :( it crashed when I was just trying to use the lathe tool and it didn't seem to have anything wrong with the geometry was just a simple spline, however there was some sculpting work in the scene that was high res. The whole program closed on it's own with no option to do the shift delete thing... then if I open the file from the recovery folder in preferences it crashes straight away.... Any idea what could be up here? How did the file go so wrong......

Works great of C4D before R25 but forcing a crash and recovery doesn't work for C4D Lite R25. A "c4d recovery scene" isn't created inside the bugreports folder as demonstrated in the video. Any suggestions where it went in version R25?

I had a c4d file that would lock up the app after opening it. To get around that I started a new file and merged the problematic file. All good after that
My C4D crashed. I recovered from a recent Auto-Backup. Now half of my textures a previewed in solid black in viewport althought all Assets are available. I can Click on each material and delete and reload the textures but this Takes so much time and i Lack Control That i am Not missing something - can anybody help?!
To avoid lockups which are caused by yourself and not the software, you should get into the habit of adjusting the LOD (Level of Detail) in the viewport which is accessible from the Display menu of the viewport, if not otherwise docked to another part of the GUI.
And I thought I was the only one naming my test files Cheese... But you were there right next to me all these years! ♥

The shift shift delete messed up
I already made the software crash with another way and received the warning thing, so i open it again and watch this vid on how to get to the file location and i thought you need to do the shift shift delete but that overwrite my work a blank file instead :(

I guess this must be done before starting any new project when relaunching the software... because my folder has no saved file within. My bad!
If theres no files, then likely c4d didn't crash, something else crashed. eg if your nvidia drivers die, you wont get these files.
I'm not sure if this works anymore in R21. I did the force crash and went to the bug reports folder and there were a few files there for the report but no C4D file.
Should still work. If there is no file then the crash recovery system was unable to salvage the files.

I am using a Mac, I don't find any recovery file besides the txt. bug report file in the bug report folder
Then unfortunately the emergency save mechanism hasn't been able to work in this instance.
poor me... roaming folder is empty. C4d keeps on TRYING to save.. and the file is a zero byte file

Hey so I was making a scene for someone and when I was rendering, it just froze my entire computer. Like my mouse doesn’t work or anything. So now I don’t know if this counts as a crash so I don’t know if the auto save thing activated. I worked for 5 hours and I’m scared to force shut down my pc. Please HELP!!!!!
Well not exactly the place for quick tech support... For the mouse to stop moving, more likely a hardware overheating issue or lack of system memory. You can try but your guess is as good as mine as to what will happen here.

Is there a way to recover unsaved Takes from the last Picture Viewer session? It just crashed on the last frame. I got a recovery file but of course, there's nothing left in the picture viewer. Is there any way to get it out of RAM?

open c4d, open the preferences, click the "open preferences folder" button on the bottom left, then open the prefs/cache folder. If youre lucky there might be something in there.
It crashed l, but alas, no recovery project to be found.
Another tip for heavy projects that will not open anymore; start a clean/new project, close the viewport view and then open your heavy project.
By closing the viewport, no polygons in your way too big project will be rendered, which might lock up your C4D.
did this and my file was not in the bug report. just an old one. beware if you try this.

My _bugreport folder is not inside the CINEMA 4D R15_8C725DAB folder... How can this be?

I have started using cinema 4d a day before, now when I start creating a model in cinema 4d it gone crashed and completely stopped my computer, like goes into the "hang and stuck" situation,
I have core i7 9th generation with 1080ti GPU after spending $1000+ on my PC, but it's still giving me this problem, if any knows how to fix this, please let me know!
Most likely overheating cpu or bad gpu drivers

You don't! :D Personally I make a series of blank folders on my drive with places for textures, renders, ae comps, client exports, temp files, caches etc; then just copy them into my work folder for each job when starting.

Yup, what im saying that that c4d has no "set up some blank folders" command. The best it does is texture and GI caches when you select "save project"
