You had the best overall drum sound/production, held back a lot and served the song more, and put those crucial drum fills in the right spots as Dave mentioned and then drove the rest of the song out heavy. If you combined some of the percussion ideas with this take, it would go to another level.
Stephen Taylor definitely won this one. He made it sound so pure and musical. Exactly what the track needed. The other three sounded a bit too technical and choppy. But overall, 4 great musicians with great passion. Love it!👍🏼
Wow, David made that 3 piece sound SO HUGE. Massive props to him. They all sounded great but he impressed me the most. Great video Brother. Make more 👍👍

Your reaction to David Cola is my reaction to David Cola every time I watch one of his videos haha. Great video, David! So cool to see all the UA-cam drummers doing something together.
@@DrumBeatsOnline I think Stephen took the ace Session Drummer Award. But it was your version that gave me goosebumps. I saw and felt your intention behind every note. You play with emotion. Sort of reminded me of a laid back Chris Coleman. Great playing
I love that David has that wonderful pink set that Cooper gave him, such an awesome set. Man I miss being able to play drums but my house is too small. I need to find a budget electric kit, have not played sense 2014.
There.s always that discussion about "serving the song" versus "overplaying", but on a track without vocals I think the sky is the limit. Musicians/drummers are entertainers, and for me. even though everyone was awesome, I was most entertained by DC,s version.
I’ll take this video as my Christmas present. All of my favorite UA-cam drummers in one video. You all rock and inspire me as a former drummer. You guys want me to pick up the sticks again!
I love all different types of videos you make - I love to build and hack things too, I love your experiments with new sounds, new ways to get old sounds, and "will this work" exploration. But this video does something really special. The concepts you're pointing out with this video - thinking about how the drums relate to the other instruments, really influence whether a section feels solid or floating, pushing or syrupy, and how there isn't a default, all these are choices with different effects on the song - they're one of the hardest things to communicate and ones that really make the difference between a good drummer and a great drummer, as well as a drummer that's just fun to jam with versus one that elevates songs. You've taken something difficult to get across and highlighted it in a really clear way. Really well done.
This was great! Everyone delivered. Also, will there be an rdavidr episode where you bake some Christmas cookies and then make a cymbal out of the baking sheet(a la David Cola’s ride thinger)?
I appreciated Gabe and Brandon’s restraint, Stephen’s approach, and David’s unbridled enthusiasm. Great work getting them all together for this project
Loved how you called the faux-double kick! I think most drummers here could relate/remember when you were a kid without a double bass setup, and had to make do with the floor tom to get that sound! 👍
Beautiful video. I really really like what brandon did. Now for a moment I think there should be a talk about sound. By far Gabe has the best mix I think. Stephen sound a little bit choked, like it seems he has a lot of compression or too short gates on the kick and toms. They all played beautifully of course.
I like them all. Gabe and Stephen suited my tastes the best, but I loved all 4 interpretations. Brandon's was a bit too chill for me, but certainly tight with that awesome subtle groove. David Kola's was overplayed a bit (intentionally I'm sure), wish he dialed that back a bit, but he used some cool unique fills and it was fun to see that monstrosity of a ride. Loved this video - worth the effort for sure!!
i really enjoyed this video, have not seen anything like this before. is interesting to see how different drummer add their personal feeling when recording. is really helpful to get new ideas and to not get stucked when creating drum parts for your band/other musicians.
Stephen Taylor's take is close to what I would have done using fills inspired by the immediate environment, but David Cola is in GODMODE ! (It might be a bit too much but jeez was it fun !!!! Great video rdavidr, thanks for this.
All 3 were awesome, but it's Brandon Scott for me. It's just so tight and tasteful. I really enjoyed enjoyed the comments you made throughout. I know these aren't your typical kind of video. Damn I wrote this before i got to the David Cola part. That kick stuff was nasty 🤌🤌🤌 Great job to everyone!
Stephen was the most dedicated drum, Gabe was the stick with the job with excellent sound, Brandon was the most experimental and Dave was the SOLO drum. For me all were GREAT!!
While I loved everybody's playing on this, I enjoyed David's the most because of the level of nuance and complexity he brought to it while still maintaining an underlying basic drive that was powerful and always present. Also loved his fills and the doubles on the kick. Kudos to all for their varied approaches. This was a lot of fun to watch. Great idea and analysis rdavidr!! Bravo.
I want Stephen on the track, Gabe on stage and David at a NAMM stand with a drumset and Brandon giving a drum clinic. That's where these guys shine imo.
Out of all of the covers I enjoyed David colas the most but none the less everyone in this video was amazing and they all have inspired me in some way on my drumming journey and without there influences idk where my playing would be if I could have a drum lesson with everyone of these players I would
They were all great players and brought cool perspectives but I gotta give it to Stephen, he played exactly what the song needed and raised it to the next level, he was a part of the song instead of just playing "to" the song.
