Aliexpress has a buuuunch of inexpensive drum parts. I bought a large amount of stuff for less than 300 bucks with shipping. I'm talking 90 lugs, 40 tension rods, 40 bass drum claws, and a bunch of other stuff.

I imagine David being some kinda salesman. Somewhere in the middle east down some back ally in a bazaar and you see this huge carpet with him sitting in the middle surrounded by all sorts of drums. He tells you tales about each drum and gives you the history all while looking at your bag of gold hungrily. He doesn't need it, he wants it. He wants you to buy his drums. He is the wealthiest yet most hidden man in the bazaar, only the lucky and the curious stumble upon him.

Thanks so much for your videos! I'm a long time drummer for 35 years. I've seen it all or at least I thought I have ! I enjoy everything about your vids from your performances, to the drum hacks , to repair and restoration. You do great work . But, what I enjoy even more is your no- nonsense ,bullshit free down to earth attitude and work ethic. Something that's in short supply these days. Thanks again man!
That Pearl 12" x 7" Soprano snare drum is fantastic for Latin work with snares off as a timbale. I loved mine, and gave it to a friend who plays in a great Latin pop band. It has a thicker Maple shell [8ply 10mm] which gives it surprising body and crack. Suggested upgrades would be Puresound snares and experiment w/ different batter heads, especially Aquarian Vintage and Evans UV2 translucent. Nice restoration, as always!

I have that exact Pearl soprano drum. I used it as my main snare for almost 8 years, its great sounding drum and perfect for when you have to stuff a kit onto a small stage.

My fathers kit is a Granstar, 14 inch snare, and toms go, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 16. Used to be wrapped yellow and he stained them a dark blue since the wrap was ruined. Love the sound of them, and just recently got a Superstar Classic kit

What a coincidence.. I just bought a used 12x7 Black Panther snare last month! Gave it a nice clean and removed some rust on the rims and put it back together. It sounds great.

I have a Ludwig Vistalite drum kit..clear blue original series circa 1976. 5-piece with Supersensitive 5 x 14" COB snare. Drums in really great shape no cracks just a few scuff marks. It's a player kit I don't 'buy and flip' drums per se. Paid considerably more for my Vistalite kit but I'm OK with that love playing them. That Vistalite kit you picked up looks to be that classic 'Zep' configuration.
Have you ever tried making a nesting kit? Would you consider doing a video where you detail the process?
You should make a giant drumset with the concert toms using them as regular toms

Hi Dave. Love your channel and ingenuity! I have a 70's Ludwig chrome over wood kit in my home studio. Three toms and a 22" bass. It's in decent condition for it's age. I want to scale down to a smaller jazz kit. I have a good 14" snare. (65 ludwig marine pearl) What's the best band for my buck? I should ask what what you buy? I am not a drummer! Thanks!

I would like to make one of those 22" Stainless steel Drums into a floor toms.
I've found that Remo snare sides seem to have a deeper collar on them so the hoop will sit flush with the bearing edge without me cranking it. I switched to Aquarian and no issues.
Have a nine piece Smokey Vistallite four curved spur 16x24, power tom depths, 6,8,10,12,13,14,16,single head. No cracks.
This Granstar actually looks nice! Is the sound any good?
And there Ludwig concert toms are just ridiculous, have you thought about converting one 22" into bass drum and another one into pancake drum?
Please make a gong bass or floor tom out of one of those stainless steel duos!

I haven't even watched the video yet and have only looked at its thumbnail... I'm having a bit of a crush on a woman named Amber at the moment, and quite funny: Her name keeps popping up around me, too! Like, there was a mention of a ring with an amber stone in the book I'm currently reading, then I was watching a video about a vintage Gibson guitar and its colour was called 'Trans Amber'...and yesterday I came across a photo on my hard drive of a collection of John Bonham kits in a German drum museum, so I drooled over those drums for a moment before moving on... Then today the same photo popped up again on facebook, and they were saying that the orange kit in it was an 'Amber Vistalite' - and that's exactly what the kit in the thumbnail looks like, too! X-)) *EDIT* Thank you for adding to my 'Amber' synchronicity with your cool video, David! May you and all your loved ones be well in these unusual times, and this goes to everybody else here, too! :-)
Can you or did you make a video on how to make the lug gaskets with equipment list etc?
I also need an air vent for my pearl snare. Where can I get one and did you get new hoops for the snare. The hole sizes isn't normal as in the number of lugs.

Hey David, Got any tips on keeping shipping costs down? I live in a more rural area and there isn’t much interest in music gear. Shipping is pretty much the only way I can get rid of stuff. So yeah, any help is better than none.
If you can ship from someone's business, do it. They usually pay less for a commerical rate

Hey, man! I buyed a vintage Olypmpic by Premier chrome snare, 14"x5". The problem is, the snare mechanism is only in "traces" - meaning the part to mount the lines for snares is missing. Any ideas for a replacement? Cheers!

Hey man. I just bought a 76 vistalite kit that didn't inlcude L arm brackets. Would know the size of those L arm brackets? I'm thinking of going woth Gibralter replacement arms as they are cheaper. I believe the sizes are 9.5mm, 10.5 mm, and 12.7mm. Any advice would be appreciated.

Oops I meant concert , and also did you know God cares about you so much and so you never loose hope , and God loves you so much and everyone on earth , I just want you to know that you are loved so much. We are going through some doubtful times and I pray for everyone during this time because people are going to feel some emotions(sadness, depression, doubt, and many other emotions that ruin our day) during these times of social distancing. Also did you know if you trust in Christ and except a gift that God has freely given too you for you too choose. (Jesus who died on the cross for you and me, and everyone ) , you will freely gifted eternal rightousness if you do. How do I do it ? Well you have trust that when you die you have a confidence that you are given an eternal life with your Great loving creater God, as cheesy as all this may seems it is just so obvious , why you want to die with no meaning to your life. Well when God gave his only son Jesus , God used him in a good way as a great gift of eternal life , So a man who lived a perfect life with no sin against God because he was God, and on a cross he died so we could expect a gift of eternal life and free the great burden of our sin that we use to comfort our selves from reality. In other words Jesus death and barial and Resurrection. Gave us not grief that a man was killed but a payment to God for all of the ten commandments we have broken before him. In the Bible it says that God is a holy rightful judge in a court and you have broken his law and you are being sentences to death , but some body named Jesus that loves you and cares for you pays your fine so that you are free from being judged rightfully before God , remember that God doesn't hate he literally sent his only son do die so you could live with God the rest of your eternal life because he loves you so. I bet you wouldn't send your own son to die for people who hate you because of the fact that your are a law offical , think about it for a minute if you were an officer and you caught somebody breaking the law and you bring them to judge them before the law. They will hate you because you caught them doing something they shouldn't. You would want to pay there fine ? But God loves us so much that he did pay our fine so we could live a life with God forever with no burden of sin and darkness and he provides you light in the darkest parts of life. So remember except Jesus into your heart because , if it was you that had payed a fine for a criminal and they didn't care or even say thank you or acknowledge you would be hurt so much emotionally. Wouldn't you ? That is how much it hurts Jesus when you don't expect a free gift that he has given you , and I guarantee you that you will have eternal life once you you except Jesus into your heart and love God for making you , you will gain eternal life as Jesus says in the Bible. I went out of my way today because I love you and God loves you. Also if this is all fake you loose nothing at all. Think about it, it is just prayer and have faith that God is real which he is. So think about this would you it is your life you thinking about not material goods , like Jesus said "a man can gain the whole world but loose his own soul" and Jesus doesn't care if you are as poor as dirt he will always love you .
