I'm with Jolyon Palmer on the Alonso incident: shouldn't be called a brake test, and Russel could had easily avoided crashing (everybody seem to forget George admitted that himself on camera after the race). Alonso's tactics were on the limit, but there are not many other ways slower cars can fight for position. Anybody remembers Perez's Abu Dhabi 2021? He even sounded apologetic in the post-race interview, for doing exactly what he was supposed to do in front of Hamilton. That's how you defend when your car is slower and you're in front.
@@kenned1485 A typical defense by drivers would usually mean losing a few tenths in a lap because at the end of the day it's their race too but perez's defense was costing him seconds of lap time so it's not really a defense and more of a hold up to help max close the gap
It was smart but not exactly gigabrain or masterclass as some people claim...Signapore is pretty impossible track to pass...only if you have huge tyre advantage...Sainz knew Norris can't pass him so he deliberately gave him DRS to keep George behind...George on the other hand cooked his tyres by pushing way to much early on the stint..

I'm neither a Russell nor Alonso fan. But the FIA and stewards got it 100% correct to give Alonso that penalty. You don't lift, brake and downshift 100m earlier into a 200kmh corner like that. Imagine if somebody t-boned Russell's chassis at 200kmh when its lying in the middle of the track. We don't need another incident like Hubert's. As a Russell fan, I try to be objective here. Russell's weakness is that he is an opportunist, taking unnecessary risks rather than settling for a safe result, and sometimes having tunnel vision. In Singapore where overtaking is difficult, he could catch up to the front two, but overtaking is another thing, also props to Sainz for tactically using Norris as a buffer. He could've finished P3, but it was P1 or nothing for him, which resulted in.. nothing. About the Alonso incident, the telemetry showed that Alonso slowed down way more compared to his previous laps, and it was a high speed blind corner where it could be dangerous. It is Fernando Alonso, who is known for his racing IQ, and Russell shouldn't expect him of all people to make it an easy overtake. It was the wrong place to pull off a move like that, but I don't think Alonso was deliberately trying to make Russell crash. Russell was caught off guard at the worst place and couldn't react in time.
