I love how this song has such a strong basis on his family life when he was young. He lost his brother when he was young. RIP Johnny Cash, my role model, join the family circle at the throne.
What a classic video. All of the Carter family girls and the early Statler brothers, whom Johnny gave them their big boost to stardom. Johnny helped so many. RIP Johnny.
Here we have a legendary performance from The Johnny Cash Show on ABC from 1970....the sensational Carter Family, the unforgettable Statler Brothers, and of course the one and only Man in Black, the great Johnny Cash.
I'm Ukrainian by birth. Moved to Canada at the age of 24 . I'm 43 now. And although i could not have possibly had any exposure to johnny cash culture .... I love every song of his. The meaning , the melody and his charisma !! He's the best . One of my favorite singers . And through me , my daughters got thoroughly acquainted with Him ! They love him too
To Noah Doolan-I'm with yo- u, brother. I'm old school as well. I grew up in the 70s & 80s listening to Johnny Cas h, Kenny Rogers, etc. To me country music died when G arth Brooks, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lorrie Morgan & others cam e along.
My family used to sit in the living room singing this when I was a kid, 10 of us in all, still brings a lump to my throat, especially since 2 of my brothers have gone ahead of us
I heard that Johnny Cash wrote that song while he was still married, so he gave the credit to June so his ex-wife wouldn't get any profit from it. I understand that perfectly. And Johnny was taking drugs before he even met June Carter, so calm down, misinformed people in the comments section. June was great for Johnny. They had a deep and real love. No one can ever take that away from them.
My daddy Passed away last year. July 1st 2023. I cry almost every week. I look at strangers and think to myself would it be wrong of me to ask that dad over there for a hug? Would it be wrong of me to sit at the park and just cry? I miss him more than anything. I just wish someone would see how much im hurting. I needed him and now hes gone...
I hope you've found peace since then. I'm sure your daddy wouldn't want you to suffer. Maybe go out and dance? He'd truly want to see you enjoy your life he gave you. ❤ I hope this finds you well.
WIth the sad passing of Harold Reid yesterday, only two people in this clip are left alive. See you in the family circle at the throne, Harold. RIP Harold Reid, Lew DeWitt, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Mother Maybelle, Anita Carter, and Helen Carter.
Listen to this song every time a family member or friend passes. Something about singing makes a loss less painful. "One of these days, and it won't be long, I'll rejoin them in a song. I'm gonna join the family circle at the throne. In the sky, Lord, in the sky."
According to Johnny himself, the line "Me and little brother will join right in there" was written by Carl Perkins about his brother, Jack, who died when they were both boys.
the slight swing in june's line is way better on this live than on any recording i've found. love it. her smile is also brilliant. i've been sitting here smiling for ages like an idiot !
I think the original was Jan Howard, so for whatever reason June didn't sing the original line, which is why it sounds better here, no disprespect to Jan Howard!
I've been given that "wtf?!" look too by people when driving, but crap em'! I don't care! I will always blast Johnny Cash, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Roy Orbison, Ritchie Valens, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holley, Big Bopper and all the other great pioneers of Rock n' Roll/Country music of the 50's n 60's. Even though I was born in 92', I want people to remember the classic stars who's lights have always shined bright and who's music never died despite what Don McLean said lol.
And I always cherish people who blasts the good old music while driving! I was born in the 80s but a part of my musical soul belongs to the good music...
I love the 80's too! 50's through early 90's. When I'm driving there's no telling what I'm blaring out of my car. It could be Johnny Cash, Alice Cooper, Sly & The Family Stone, Prince, Rod Stewart, Hall & Oates... You get the picture lol. I love all the genres and decades. Except for today's. I used to like it, but my freshman year of high school I bought a Billy idol cd, and that all changed! I dug into every decade and found the music I really loved (:
I wasn't really a 80's or 90's generation but when i started listening to him singing a boy named zue i official became a johnny cash and a 80 country song Fan just perfect!.
I had just read in a Country Music Article last week that this was the NO.1 Gospel Song of the 20th Century! Thanks Mr. Johnny Cash and writer Carl Perkins. This is purely beautiful! No one has ever been bigger than Johnny Cash in any form of music!
A few days before my grandma died, she explained the meaning of this song while it was playing. She was a huge Johnny Cash fan. I was touched by the meaning, especially when she was just diagnosed with cancer and in hospice. She wasn’t one to be sentimental either. The next morning she had a horrible stroke that made her unable to communicate and she rapidly declined from there. When she was getting close to passing, but not able to let go, I kept humming this song to her. I didn’t know the melody 100% but I improvised. It was the meaning and intent that mattered. My aunt got into too if I remember right. This was a pivotal moment when we expressed acceptance of her passing and that we’ll be okay. She finally died about an hour later. We were relieved for her, and celebrated by playing her absolute favorite songs One Bourbon One Scotch and Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood. Yesterday, 5/2/19, was 7 years since her passing 🌤💐 HEY Oddone! Stop looking at me! You looked at me first!! 😜 You know I *might* actually miss you if you weren’t intruding in my dreams so much! Don’t you have better things to do?😂 Love you so much Grandma!!! 💕💕💕
If her favourite songs were Bad to the Bone and One Bourbon, One Scotch,... by George Thoroughgood, you had one heck of a top cool gran. Sorry for your loss.
I am going to see George Thorogood in May. I have set a reminder on my phone to think of your grandma during the show. I'm glad you had peace with her passing.
Johnny Cash really turned country music into a huge, wonderful thing. I wish we had someone like him now. I don't think I've listened to new country music since Hannah Montana. And that was the thin end of the wedge.
Really didn't like country until I discovered Johnny. I knew his Ring of Fire song , but I couldn't name another song he did. This last year, I turned 50 and decided to watch Little House of Prairie. Johnny and his wife were guest stars on season 3 episode 1. I was blown away with Johnny's acting performance, so I dug deeper into his music. For the first time in 50 years I can say that I am now interested in country music and it all started with Johnny Cash. What an awesome talent he was.
Walked into the BX at Nha Trang AB,Vietnam in May 1970. Over the loudspeaker I heard, "Daddy sang base, Mama sang tenor. . ." That was my introduction to Vietnam.
I grew up in the 60's. The first album I ever heard was Johnny Cash. Love seeing those young Statler Brothers. Miss Harold Reid, Johnny and June immensely.
All of Johnny songs will forever be classics my cousin Johnny did family proud. Miss him highly much and can't believe he is gone but all of our Rivers family is just about all gone. Only three main family members left when they gone I will be so lost am so hoping to one day be reunited with them in all in the sky when it's my time to go
Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash - what a great freaking team and what a great freaking SONG. I can listen to this song 100 times a day and reflect on my own family and the family I might have one day.
My mom attached herself to this song when we finally lost my grandma. She had finally lost both of her parents. I lost both of my grandparents. I too now cling to this song and I don't have her memories, but it kill me to think that someday, I will lose my parents, too.
I was a child then. I grew up listening to this stuff. It brings back memories. Like when my mom taught me how to play/strum a guitar. It is a precious memory
Johnny and June are now in that glorious circle. I can't wait to sing with them in Heaven. Yes, I believe in Jesus and the fact that there is a reward after this.
+raleighman3000 Don't tell people they're wrong for what they believe, grow up. And I don't believe in God by the way, that doesn't mean I'm unable to have even a shred of respect for the belief of those that do. And that goes for any religion, from Islam to Jainism and everything in between. People like you are just as bad as the religious zealots that tell everyone they're going to hell for not sharing their beliefs.
+raleighman3000 why are you commenting that. You don't actually know that know body knows that so do not tell anyone to grow up. That is there belief, mine and many others. Then there are many people who don't believe and that is yours. Saying to grow up to a believe is like saying grow up to someone else who does not believe. It is a matter of an opinion and that is all. Please be considerate of that thank you. (Yes this is mine)
One of the first Cash songs i ever heard. When i was a little kid,my dad used to get the whole family sat in the lounge and he'd sing and play this on his guitar while we all twizzled umbrellas in tune! So many years ago,but the memory is oh so clear.
What a lovely performance! Johnny Cash' voice always keeps me out of the cold. Beautiful song by Carl Perkins, a great figure from Sun Records (all Southern men, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, and of course Elvis!) Blessings for all of them who surely are jamming in Heaven.
"I remember when I was a lad Times were hard and things were bad But there's a silver linin' behind every cloud Just poor people, that's all we were Tryin' to make a livin' out of black land dirt We'd get together in a family circle singin' loud Daddy sang bass Mama sang tenor Me and little brother would join right in there Cause singin' seems to help a troubled soul One of these days it won't be long I'll rejoin them in a song I'm gonna join the family circle at the Throne Oh no, the circle won't be broken By and by, Lord, by and by Daddy sang bass Mama sang tenor Me and little brother would join right in there In the sky, Lord, in the sky I remember after work Mama would call in all of us You could hear us singin' for a country mile Now little brother has done gone on But, I'll rejoin him in a song We'll be together again up yonder in a little while Daddy sang bass Mama sang tenor Me and little brother would join right in there Cause singin' seems to help a troubled soul One of these days it won't be long I'll rejoin them in a song I'm gonna join the family circle at the Throne Oh, no the circle won't be broken By and by, Lord, by and by Daddy sang bass Mama sang tenor Me and little brother would join right in there In the sky, Lord, in the sky Yes in the sky, Lord, in the sky"
This song always makes me think of my dad. When I was a kid we'd go on drives and listen to Johnny cash and sing along. This will always be one of my favorite songs.
At 1:43 I'm watching Mother Maybelle Carter, Singing "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" which she basically helped invent country music with, inside a Johnny Cash song, that Carl Perkins wrote, basically paying tribute to her and her family. IT'S SO META I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN HANDLE IT
God hearing this makes me think of my papa. We used to sing it in the truck when I was having a bad day..RIP papa. Your little kidaroo loves you so much and hopes you’re up in heaven so you can be free.
My favorite songs: -Daddy Sang Bass (Duh) -Folsom Prison Blues -Cocaine Blues -Ring Of Fire -I Got Stripes -24 Minutes To Go -Orange Blossom Special -Busted -And every single gospel song by him 😊 Love his music 😄😄
was born in 1997 im glad that i was born now so i could hear all this great songs. nobody i meat in school likes songs from the golden years of the 50s, 60s and 70s. i hope that someday they will understand
Yes, none of us ever really die...cause as the Bible says, "and he being dead yet speaketh" (Heb. 11:4). We all cast an influence, even after we're dead and gone!! :)
For those that do not know that is the the Carter Sisters (musical group) on the left with June Carter in green (Johnny Cash's wife), on the right in suits is the Statler Brothers I believe.
Great rendition. Brings back watching this on T.V. when very small. Especially enjoyed the really low "daddy sang bass" part. Still cool to watch this clip. Thanks for sharing it.
"Will the circle be unbroken by and by lord by and by" We used to sing this in church all the time when people were getting prayed for. Pentecostal. Seriously had no idea it was a johnny cash song at the time!
The original was written by the Carter Family (Maybelle in the back left beside June and her sister, and brother in law) in the 1930's, it's considered one of the earliest country songs, and of course a gospel song. So churches have sang that song well before the johnny Cash version, he's singing a gospel song inside this song. Peace out!
My dad just passed away in January, and today would be his 77th birthday. This song has always made me think of my dad, so much so that I got the words Daddy Sang Bass tattooed on me in honor of my dad. RIP, daddy.
Another #1 hit on the Country & Western charts for The Man in Black. It was the 155th #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks charts. It was also the first #1 C&W hit of 1969. And the world of Country Music was fixing to shoot into the stratosphere.
Raise your hand if this is true country music
This is true music all together, Nowadays it's all pop and stuff on the radio that sounds bad. I miss the old days, RIP Johnny Cash

Country music is so good. I hope you explore other artists as well ❤
Shame Ukraine is run by Nazis..
They're not just pretending to be country. They are real, true, authentic country.
True true. This is real country music along with other oldschool country artists
Actually, Johnny didn't like being qualified as country. He didn't wanna be tied to any genre but felt closer to rock n roll than anything.
Real country !

There is more talent on that one stage than there has been in all of Nashville for years.
Johnny Cash, The Carter Family and the Statler Brothers.

RIP Johnny and June. Hope God gave you a spot in his angelic choir.
God hearing this makes me think of my papa. We used to sing it in the truck when I was having a bad day..RIP papa. Your little kidaroo loves you so much and hopes you’re up in heaven so you can be free.
My favorite songs:

He is still living!...LEGENDS are never died!
"Legends are never died" moving
Yeah I wrote in a wrong way my feelings... legends never die, wanted to say
Yes, none of us ever really die...cause as the Bible says, "and he being dead yet speaketh" (Heb. 11:4). We all cast an influence, even after we're dead and gone!! :)
Ruri La Vulpe legends move on, but never die
Love Johnny Cash. Still miss him.😊
The Truth stands on its own it doesn't have to be defended.. This music speakes for itself it's pure good music 🙏🙏🙏
God this song reminds me of my grandpa so much
My grandpa and I used to sing this together all the time.
THE CARTER FAMILY - STATLER BROTHERS- JOHNNY CASH. I HAVEN'T HEARD THIS SONG SINCE I WAS A KID. LONG LONG AGO, IT HAS SO MUCH MEANING.
June Carter really completes this track. Outstanding!
I sang this with my choir in St Leonards, Sussex, Uk 2 weeks ago🎵🎶♥️
For those that do not know that is the the Carter Sisters (musical group) on the left with June Carter in green (Johnny Cash's wife), on the right in suits is the Statler Brothers I believe.
Great rendition. Brings back watching this on T.V. when very small. Especially enjoyed the really low "daddy sang bass" part. Still cool to watch this clip. Thanks for sharing it.
A great tune from a man who was a legend in his lifetime.
Best song from Jhonny about value of family. What happened with you , America ?
Now Johnny’s singin bass in heaven.
Johnny cash is so great love this song
One of my favorites I could listen to him all day. The statler.. bros
Are singing with him thanks
"Will the circle be unbroken by and by lord by and by"
We used to sing this in church all the time when people were getting prayed for.
Peace out!
Sending this to one of Johnny’s biggest fans, Nick Phelps, from St. Petersburg, FL❤
Poor people, that's all we were. Tell-it, Johnny Cash!
My dad just passed away in January, and today would be his 77th birthday. This song has always made me think of my dad, so much so that I got the words Daddy Sang Bass tattooed on me in honor of my dad. RIP, daddy.

And now June and Johnny are singing in the sky. RIP to two of the greatest singers.
Wow, probably the best version of this song I ever heard!
Song they played at my grandaddys funeral I like to hear it now n then to help a troubled soul.
1:16
You can see the emotional impact the line, “Now little brother has done gone home.” had on him, and understandably so.
Carl PERKINS lost his younger brother.
Love how he refers to his brother that he lost as his little brother even though he was originally the older brother. R.I.P to all of them
He didn't write this song, Carl Perkins wrote it for him.
My 4 children and I would all sing this while we were driving on a road trip to the lake! ❤
love love this song. faith and family, love and hope. PEACE be with you.
I've got this on a playlist on my computer and I just now realized that's the Statler Brothers ! Dang they were young!
When music was actually music, miss those days
