First horse to ever win the Grand Slam. Glad he is living the luxurious life as a stud with good weight on him. Such a humble, gentle, and kind disposition. I will never forget A.P and I wish him all the best in his many years ahead...
Think The Grand Slam is The Triple Crown plus The Breeder's Cup. Could be wrong, though. Absolutely love AP. Wishing him a joyful life filled with many, many gorgeous, strong-legged colts and fillies to carry on Dad's dynasty.
Yep, but if you were to put AP up against the Secretariat, Secretariat would've won hands down!!!.. AP didn't break any records I'll just say that.. Has he broke Secretariats records?.. Don't think so...
battousaiblade he hasn't gained weight. Most of it is 'filling out'. That's when the horse is fully done growing and their muscles and bones have gotten a bit bigger
The King is loving s good life..look forward to seening his lil sis "American Cleopatra" on the track this year. She is gonna surprise a lot of people..brother/sister will RULE the horse racing world..just watch.
There shall be a dynasty from this outstanding royal horse family. I too look so forward to American Cleopatra, she is a beauty and her bloodline is so fantastic! :)
He definitely deserves a laid back stud life but good god, do we miss him on the track. Sure, CC is good and Dortmund is proving his weight in gold, but it'd be nice to have the real Champ back in silks. Hail the Pharoah, long may he reign.
Pharoah loved to run. I'll bet he'd give up the girls in a minute to race again. Why do people think that any horse that just sits around all day munching hay interrupted with a breeding here and there day after day with no activity or enjoyment such a great deal? Man O War was ridden everyday and I'm sure there were other's that were ridden too. As sensible as Pharoah is, why can't he enjoy the same privilege? He's too intelligent to be satisfied with boredom.
Depending on how tiring it is to breed him may deal with how much other exercise he's given. People who are around these horses all day will balance their needs with the requirements from the owners. An unhappy stud isn't going to put forth the work a happy stud will (especially for breeds that require live coverage)
DreamingInColour he's been laid back since his birth and he's passing that on too his offspring. His first goal is a colt and is already great with toddlers. That being said educate yourself. Very few racehorses go to slaughter anymore and if thoroughbreds are found in slaughter trucks the trainer and/or owner gets suspended
Megan Proffitt When did I say horses go to slaughter? I meant as in horses who are retired and sold off to other owners who find the horses are too horse for them etc. And I was joking!! no need to take things so seriously 😂
DreamingInColour Again educate yourself. Most horses go to OTTB programs where the program matches the horse with the right owner. I get you joking about him being bred 2-3 times a day, but the last part wasn't exactly funny.
One of his sons, Four Wheel Drive, is a Breeders' Cup winner. Other major winners from this year include Sweet Melania, Maven and Another Miracle. The first crop is racking up the coin for AP.
Stop the nonsense. Grand Slam b.s. There was NO Grand slam stunt during all the other previous Triple Crown winners. Probably ap was his first TC watch must have wet his pants.
So does he get to deliver the goods horse-to-horse or is it done via a collection system? I'd hope he's getting to Grand Slam a new mare or two or three every day. What a life that would be. Forget Tinder, just wait for someone to deliver a few fine fillies to you every day just for your pleasure.
A stud I thought he was a stallion that's what I saw when I looked up his name yesterday on Wikipedia it said he's a stallion unless a stud is another word for stallion
Have you owned horses, bred horses or spent any time around horses? Or at least, having such an interest in them, done any reading or studying of them? Obviously not, because if you did, you would know a mare cannot be bred every year. The gestation period of a foal is 11-12 months in itself. Then you have the giving birth part and a foal will spend at the very least 6 months before it is weaned. Alot of owners let foals suckle longer, its not the foals precise age that determines it, more his physical and social development. So you've got almost 2 years time between being bred, (which may take a few months, doesn't always happen the first try) being pregnant, birthing and raising the foal. Race horses are very expensive to own and care for, the owners gave a large emotional and financial investment in them and certainly do not run their farms like a puppy mill. A mare can produce foals into her 20s, some later, some not, depends on the health of the mare. So if she starts breeding around 4 or 5 years old, that's 7 or 8 foals. No abuse in that.
So we just gonna forget about Seattle Slew. The only undefeated Triple Crown winner when he won it. Also smashed the next years Triple Crown winner twice
I have been there In Kentucky and it is amazing and I also know the person who got their mare breed to him so they have his first baby I got to talk to the groomer and the handler and all that
HorseyPlays mine does to. Mine has no star, and he's 17 hands around there. My horse is huge XD my horse is a stud and was gonna be gelded idk what happened lol. He's had 3 goals and I go to shows with him. His hound so I wanna make it to the olympics with him!
If he’s so laid back just naturally, why the hell are they using a stud chain on him? Those things are potentially dangerous and painful if used improperly. I’d say if the horse doesn’t need it, don’t use it.
Probably due to age and habit. If he's been moved and corrected with the stud chain it may help keep him calm vs using a new method of moving him. These people know how to use the chains correctly.
Kelsey Lauer ..thank you, it's nice to read an intelligent comment based on fact and not hear "OMG! THEY'RE BEING ABUSED! POOR HORSIES!" You know the ones I mean. 😁
If you've ever been around racehorses, you'll understand why they need those chains. A friend of mine owns racehorses and I've seen her mares/fillies on chains because they are very temperamental and can do A LOT of damage if you don't know how to control them. These horses when they racing are not like other horses that can be ridden leisurely or have you touch them like a pet, which is why they go through training after they retire to learn how to be calm and do other sports like dressage, show-jumping, or just a trail horse.
wow! "packing on 170 lbs. Does anyone here know if he gets regular exercise? i' m not familiar with how these thourobreds (sic) are kept after retirement from racing
Because the horses are raced when they are younger (which is one major critique of the sport, and why they want smaller riders for them) they haven't finished growing while racing in fit condition. This is simlar to end of a puberty growth spurt for a high school athlete. The extra weight is coming from his body telling him to fill in muscle. They seem to be targeting a 'pet' weight now vs a 'fit' weight (where you would still see some of his ribs due to muscle definition on the breed) as he's not going to be racing but instead being used as a stud.
American Pharoah will be 6 years old on February 2nd. All thoroughbreds in the Northern Hemisphere turn one year older on January 1st regardless of their actual date of birth to make it easier to group them together for training and racing purposes. In the Southern Hemisphere, the birthday for all thoroughbreds born in Southern Hemisphere is August 1st.
Not a problem! I'm a groom at my local racetrack so I am always happy to help answer questions and hopefully bring more fans to the great sport of horse racing.
why do they not Breed this Horse with Zenyatta ???? i don't get it ? you'd think it would be an Automatic Triple Crown winner with 19 straight wins win Zenyatta ?? what's there to Think ????
It's fascinating how different American Pharaoh and Secretariat are. AP is so laid back, doesn't seem to miss racing at all. Secretariat, on the other hand, was literally running till the day he died.
I kind of feel horse racing is a bit cruel, but I have to admit it's pretty cool for the winners to get to do nothing but fuck for the rest of their lives.
If you want to keep your stud health, use him on the track..slow down breeding.. Keep up exercise program...better yet, keep him racing...word from the wise....👑🐎....for the love of the horse..
Typically you're not going to have a milk mare for every foal produced. The times a milk mare would be used instead 1) death or illness of the mother, and even then humans have come farther with formulas that depending on the operation they may just formula feed the foal 2) Mare with known terrible maternal instincts but great/rare line. Typically breeders would only breed this mare to other great lines or lines they know have solid mothering ability to perserve the line and breed out the terrible mothering tendency 3) Breed back reasons (done in cases where the mare may have had a chance at a reduced fee but requried to produce two foals, one for each owner)
Im not trying to be mean to him or his fans or anything but, he isnt that pretty. He is a plain bay with no white. Secretariat was a beautiful horse. American Pharoah, not so much. I do like how he acts sweet when being handled. Even though Secretariat was like that too. But he did win the Triple Crown so he is a champion.
Yeah but Secretariat had a beautiful body shape. American Pharoah doesto but, to me everybody is obsessing over him a little too much. Secretariat is the one to obsess over. He is a true champion. All American Pharoah did was win the Triple Crown. Secretariat beat the record on all the races and he won the Belmont by 31 lenghts. American Pharoah only won it by like 2 or 3 lengths. He is a very sweet, pretty horse though.
Your blinded by color... If you see past that, you'll see he's a beautiful animal. Speed horse built and confirmation. Secretariat was more stocky but was flashy b/c of the white. Sorry but I have to disagree, he's almost idea!
Fantastic racehorse, near perfect conformation. Still, I personally have doubts about his stud career and it will be very interesting to see the development of his stud fee over the years and whether he's as good a stallion as he was a racehorse. He's not THAT well bred in my opinion and quite a few of his relatives were only lightly raced or even unraced due to health concerns.
Lakin Bacon 2nd most ludicrous comment I've read today. Horses don't understand the concept of a ",,break," like humans. They live to eat, pee, shit and have sex. Don't put human traits onto animals.
That horse gets laid more times in a day than I have in my 35 years on Earth.
I really suck at life.
First horse to ever win the Grand Slam. Glad he is living the luxurious life as a stud with good weight on him. Such a humble, gentle, and kind disposition. I will never forget A.P and I wish him all the best in his many years ahead...
drumma4lyfe06 Actually he was the 12th Triple Crown winner not the 1st.
Think The Grand Slam is The Triple Crown plus The Breeder's Cup. Could be wrong, though. Absolutely love AP. Wishing him a joyful life filled with many, many gorgeous, strong-legged colts and fillies to carry on Dad's dynasty.
You got it right. Triple Crown plus Breeder's Cup Classic.
Yep, but if you were to put AP up against the Secretariat, Secretariat would've won hands down!!!.. AP didn't break any records I'll just say that.. Has he broke Secretariats records?.. Don't think so...
drumma4lyfe06 First horse in 37 yrs to win the Triple Crown, but not the first horse to do so.
he's gained a good amount of weight and he is so calm
battousaiblade he hasn't gained weight. Most of it is 'filling out'. That's when the horse is fully done growing and their muscles and bones have gotten a bit bigger
i know what it means, but to me "fill out" and "gain weight" is almost the same thing
my horse did the same thing. filled out
i like to Aramican horse
Megan Proffitt he’s put on weight, he’s no longer “racing fit”
He always had a sound mind but I'm sure being a stud in retirement made him much more sound if ya know what I mean!
+Kendall Anthony, American Pharaoh was fast, but Secretariat is and will always be The King...always
Love them both. AP brought the sport into the spotlight again and united the country. Secretariat is God's Horse, Godspeed to God's Steed, they say.
Don't forget Seabiscuit.
I mean Seabiscuit was a good racer and popular, but his record isn't anywhere near Secretariat's.
you know your horses
Man-O-War was an amazing racer though, for the time being American Pharaoh should be in history in racing.
Kendall Anthony well that didn't happen
His no King
He definitely deserves a laid back stud life but good god, do we miss him on the track. Sure, CC is good and Dortmund is proving his weight in gold, but it'd be nice to have the real Champ back in silks. Hail the Pharoah, long may he reign.
Taylor
Huh? They want to run. AP’s temperament may fool you but he was born an athlete. Please explain why you believe the is cruelty.
'Long may he reign'? What do you mean, Secretariat still reigns 50 years and counting
Zenyatta was fast on the track but an absolute failure as a broodmare. I wouldn't put her through anymore pregnancies. They die or they can't run.
I AM SO GLAD HE HAS PUT ON SO MUCH WEIGHT, HE WAS LOOKING A LITTLE THIN AT THE END OF HIS RACING CAREER.
julie hertz
He wasn't skinny. He was fit
that's what peak condition looks like, no extra weight
He was in peak racing form. All racehorses have a similar appearance when they’re racing. It’s called being “race fit”
Are you a mom?
damn he's doing more smashing then Me 😂😂
A horse gets to knock up over a hundred mares a year and just walk away, and yet we persist in saying that man has dominion over the earth.
Some of his foals are cutie pies, too.
Lol
Were they trying to say "in Versailles"?
Julie B It is a small town in Kentucky
It is pronounced "Ver-sayles" in Kentucky.
That’s how it is pronounced. It’s right by Lexington KY.
LOL I'm glad you asked. I was so confused.
Can you Imagine the Pharoah with Zenyatta as a broodmare ??????
austin thomas
Now I want that to happen!!!
That would definitely be a super horse
No doubt....the two a perfect match
"breeding 2-3 times a day"............... fuck... my ... life....
congratulations to American Pharaoh, he's a dad to a beautiful colt!
Kay Odom and his second goal was born this week! A filly!
Pharoah loved to run. I'll bet he'd give up the girls in a minute to race again. An unhappy stud isn't going to put forth the work a happy stud will (especially for breeds that require live coverage)
2 to 3 times a day seems like hard work too 😅
He is one beautiful fella 🙄
Secreteriat
Man o war
American pharoah
He is a beauty. Hope he still gets to run some.
Did he just try to say Versailles?? 0:35
No wonder he's so laid back! He breeds 2-3 times a day! he does deserve it though, his fate is much better than many other famous race horses.

He’s pretty amazing, but I prefer Justify. Justify’s face just makes me swoon 😂
I am glad he is retired and living well.
I will never forget those big races where you become the king.(along with my paisano)
I still love secretariat because I have one of his children. Derrick, Town Crier.
Crazy.Equestrian.Freak .Lover I love him to I know almost everything about him he is the greatest Horse that God has ever put on this earth
Crazy.Equestrian.Freak .Lover i had one of his children to
My horse is a great great great grandson of Secretariat and American Pharoahs uncle brother to Pioneer of the Nile. Deification is his name.
he is beautiful
Stop the nonsense. Grand Slam b.s. There was NO Grand slam stunt during all the other previous Triple Crown winners.

"Breeding 2 to 3 times a day" holy shit my boy is slayin!
If a horse is retired, is it still ridden?
Breeding a stud 2-3 times a day is kind of tough, don’t you think? I have 2 studs that I breed and they’re bred 2twice every month.
Jhorden Cherry ..and I'd bet American Pharoh would brag to them, "I'm getting a lot more tail than you, dudes!," 😁😁😁
It would be tough. You can see in his eye he looks tired.
And look at how shitty his tiny feet are. It just goes to show there are no solid rules in the world of horses.
Tina Huston you must know nothing 😂
FUCKING DICK.
Tina Huston You’re such a nice person. I bet you’re a joy to be around. 🤮
Right back at you.
Handsome boy! Well deserved luxury retirement!!
He is a gorgeous horse 😍, i wish i could afford a beautiful bay like him
He's the Larry Holmes of horse racing. Most experts believe that neither one had great competition.
He's also a beautiful horse in every angle that the camera catches him.
A stud I thought he was a stallion that's what I saw when I looked up his name yesterday on Wikipedia it said he's a stallion unless a stud is another word for stallion
The life every man would love to live.....
if only human athletes could live the life of retired champion horses hmmm.....
beside the glory.
best confirmation you will see in These Days
I think they breed too much tbh
Rachel Amber bet he doesn't think so.
panheadchick1212 what about the mares I bet they breed every year
Have you owned horses, bred horses or spent any time around horses? Or at least, having such an interest in them, done any reading or studying of them? panheadchick1212 did i say it was abuse, no
panheadchick1212 plus I had 5 horses
I have an horse honk Kong its american pharaoh kid
His tail is starting to grow longer, that is a great sign of how well he's doing.
Breeding 3x per day, not bad considering he only has 1 testicle.
👑 👑 👑
I thought 2-3 times a week was a lot 😬
So we just gonna forget about Seattle Slew.
The only undefeated Triple Crown winner when he won it.
Also smashed the next years Triple Crown winner twice
isnt he living at coolmoore stud?
Ashford is the American branch of Coolmore Stud. The farm also has branches in Ireland and Australia.
He is so beautiful
Three times a day must have its own challenges. Sheesh. They should make a trophy for THAT.
My great uncle was there when this lovely beautiful male was born so lucky
He did over 100 mares? how does that work?
Topsy Krets Getting laid 3 times a day that's how
I have been there In Kentucky and it is amazing and I also know the person who got their mare breed to him so they have his first baby I got to talk to the groomer and the handler and all that
American Pharoah now has company as a Millenial Grand Slam winner.
My horse looks just like him (but with a star) and he's so fast!
HorseyPlays
AP has a star. (A very tiny one...)
Ohhh
HorseyPlays mine does to. Mine has no star, and he's 17 hands around there. My horse is huge XD my horse is a stud and was gonna be gelded idk what happened lol. He's had 3 goals and I go to shows with him. His hound so I wanna make it to the olympics with him!
Lucia Oakgarden I smell bullshit
Should breed him and Zenyatta. Their babies would be unbeatable

I wonder could he ever race again or have a race horse ever came out of retirement to race again.
So do they still ride him around? Not racing just for fun.
Wonder how is the horse now in March 2018
He’s got great offspring like smarty Jones
Stud lyfe.
what ever he got better than those blue pills, lollllllllllllllllllllll
Secretariat is the best horse. Just saying.
Its nice to see a good outcome for a racehorse ngl
Wow I am sunrises that this horse is alive.
He is so thick! He was so thin.
He is one of the lucky ones
Why does he keep pronouncing Versailles like "sail"????
Sedesla Sedeslarson because that’s how it’s pronounced in KY.
Hes living the dream
Pharoah is the king!
Is he still alive?
Obviously
That's amazing!!
Go boy. Breed
Stop lying
He is handsome
He is beautiful!
Happy for him!
hes beatiful

+Victoria Bardsley thank you for your comment ive always been a fan of race horses
Not a problem! I'm a groom at my local racetrack so I am always happy to help answer questions and hopefully bring more fans to the great sport of horse racing.
+Victoria Bardsley im already a big fan
Race horses are abused....being fast doesn't make his life any happier...just a fast famous abused poor horse
why do they not Breed this Horse with Zenyatta ???? i don't get it ? you'd think it would be an Automatic Triple Crown winner with 19 straight wins win Zenyatta ?? what's there to Think ????
Wheres smokey these days?
He was sold in an auction
It's fascinating how different American Pharaoh and Secretariat are. AP is so laid back, doesn't seem to miss racing at all. Secretariat, on the other hand, was literally running till the day he died.
He seems slightly lame which is to expected but damn those hoofs be trimmed way back.
Such a gorgeous horse! This proves racing isn't as abusive as non jockeys see it as
WTF. Did u like do that or that or that or that orth at Orh t got it
I kind of feel horse racing is a bit cruel, but I have to admit it's pretty cool for the winners to get to do nothing but fuck for the rest of their lives.

Keep up exercise program...better yet, keep him racing...word from the wise....👑🐎....for the love of the horse..
100 foals +100 milk mares = 100 throw away foals

Savannah Frillman I thinks it's more his build and structure than color because when you first think of a horse he's the perfect fit
Yeah but Secretariat had a beautiful body shape. American Pharoah doesto but, to me everybody is obsessing over him a little too much. Secretariat is the one to obsess over. He is a true champion. I think he's got a beautiful coat. It's such a deep bay with very black legs and a light black muzzle. Gorgeous if you ask me.
Horrible feet
HE BREEDS 2-3 TIMES A DAY?! WTHECK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! A HORSE NEEDS A BREAK
Lakin Bacon he’s a stallion, it’s what they love to do
Jas but still....it just seems wrong
Lakin Bacon 2nd most ludicrous comment I've read today. Horses don't understand the concept of a ",,break," like humans. They live to eat, pee, shit and have sex. Don't put human traits onto animals.
panheadchick1212 jeez sorrryy
Probably meant per week
He needs shoes on - Hes walk to low
