Drew A Rockwell Secretariat probably the greatest racehorse that ever lived. Makes me proud to be Virginian. American Pharoah is my personal favorite. As a young black man I don't think many others my age and race probably care about horse racing but I love it. I'll never forget the BCC. Everyone in my house watched and saw how brilliant Pharoah was and they don't even follow the sport. This horse was magical. I'll never forget him.
Shame on any enthusiast who has a single negative thing to say about Pharoah. He won the TC, then backed that up by winning the Haskell, finishing a close second at the Travers, then destroying the field and the track record at the Breeder's Cup. In a sport that has been in a tailspin for decades, AP brought six months' worth of wonderful positive attention. What more could a racing fan ask for?
John McKenna Justify had some problems in his foot, which is why they retired him early. I still think AP was the better horse, and I think AP enjoyed racing more than Justify did.
I just read an article that says when Baffert gets sad about Pharoah being gone he watches his races- I can see why: so uplifting. His stride is amazing
Announcer was fantastic! This race gives me goosbumps. It was an honor seeing this legendary horse race all of 2015 and goes to show how truly hard it is to win a triple crown.
American Pharoah is the best horse I have ever witnessed hands down. California Chrome, Shared Belief, Zenyatta, Arrogate, Barbaro, Curlin, Songbird...American Pharoah blows them all away! The Secretariat of my generation!!!
Barbaro was faster though. He blew them all away in the Kentucky derby by a margin that hadn't been seen in alot of years. Not to mention he ran the fastest last quarter mile since Secretariat. I am not taking anything away from American Pharaoh just watch Barbaro Kentucky derby. He was considered a sinch to win the triple crown if not for the tragedy.
I 1000% agree with this, and I go back to Affirmed and Alydar. 8f - 12f, I'd take AP vs ANY horse post 1973 (Big Red). Slew, Bid, Holy Bull, Cigar, Rachel... any of them.
It's hard to take anyone over a Triple Crown/Grand Slam winner. For 37 years (including just the year before) it seemed almost impossible that we'd ever see a TC again. As far as other horses, we tend to focus on the ones who lost the TC bid at the Belmont. But Afleet Alex also won 2/3 legs and his final stretch performances at the Preakness and Belmont were phenomenal
"A triple crown winner, A breeders cup winner, a horse, of a life time!!" Gave me chills from head to toe. Amazing being able to watch such a great horse and witness history in the making, as I will be able to tell my kids how I was there to witness one of the greatest to do it. Thanks for the wonderful memories Pharoah, and also thanks for quite a bit of cash, lol. ❤️😉
I've been waiting to see a horse like this for many years. I heard all the stories about Secretariat from my parents, even stories from my grandparents about Citation and a few of the other TC winners. Now I finally can tell my kids one day that I was lucky enough to watch the great American Pharoah.
He wasn't even working hard on the final stretch. That was absolutely amazing. Victor took time to pose at the Finish line. Many a man have been moved to tears by greatness. I got a little misty watching this, because this is greatness.
+aaronman4772 I still get misty watching the rerun. I was STUNNED watching it live as he pulled away from horses the nay sayers claimed outclassed him.... AND SET A TRACK RECORD. I hope he enjoys his retirement but he will be missed. What memories he gave us here in 2015.
The only thing that sucks is the fact race horses careers are so short. This is an amazing Athlete. I wish we could watch him race for many years to come.
+Jay B he wasn't done yet. It makes me emotionally sad he retired so early. But I understand the value of him. Better to to retire while he's healthy and not risk any injury.
+SkyPantherr too bad they cant just stud him for a few months, let him rest, and then bring him back to racing. Most of the time a horse peaks out at about 4 years old. Im sure he could dominate until he is about 5. But i also heard the insurance would be too much to ever afford. Thats one of the main reason they cant do it.
+Jay B The insurance premiums for next year would be more than he could make if he won every race he started in. No matter how successful he is, they're losing money, and you can't argue it would raise his stud fee as he's already at $200,000 per foal for his first crop. He is that very rare breed where essentially no matter how much more he does, he cannot become more valuable, and therefore there is no monetary value in racing him longer. Many people were arguing to retire him after the Belmont, because he's done enough; we are blessed that the Zayats ran him 3 more times and allowed him to cement his legacy. One of the greatest 3YO seasons we have ever seen a horse run.
Yea, racehorses usually retire pretty earlier but at-least 5 y.o. stallion, California Chrome, is still racing for this year and maybe some portion of next year (per owner(s) statement i've seen from an article somewhere).. I love AP as well just as much as I do CC and wish he was still racing but I understand why he is now at stud.
Honestly I wasn't sure he would win the Breeder's Cup before the race started. Shame on myself doubting his greatness. This kind of strong horses don't come often.
This race was NOT shown on local NBC stations, they chose to air a football game instead after one Breeder's Cup race. Thank you for posting on youtube. So wonderful to see that a new generation has its "wonderhorse". In my youth it was Secretariat.
One of the best I've ever seen run...wish he was running next year...we were never close to seeing how good he really was. His bottom was never reached and he just did things SO easy. You don't see horses like this too often anymore. What a horse.
Horse racing needed something like this to pick it back up. It's a pleasure to watch such a great athlete finally emerge after all these years of waiting. Yes, there are horses who are better than others, however, every Triple Crown winner has done an amazing feat. I see Secretariat has come up a lot here in the topics naturally; Bold Ruler's line produced some really nice foals. Ruffian was also from that line.
I remember being drawn to him MONTHS before the Derby (back in January of 2015), only to have people doubting my hunch on several occasions. I'm glad I stayed true to this guy. What a horse!
+Johnathan S Sure, however Dortmund was largely the favorite going into the Derby. Also, there's a difference between saying, "This horse is good and I think he'll win the Derby," and "This is the best horse I've ever seen. He will win the TC." (
I told my wife immediately after he won Arkansas that I thought he'd win the triple crown. She doesn't follow racing at all so she just shrugged her shoulders at me. When he won the Belmont, I was jumping up and down when he hit the top of the stretch... by the time he hit the 1/16 pole, I was just sitting on ground in actual tears. What a horse.
here it is -Breeders Cup time again and I am rooting for California Chrome but for nothing will matchthe excitement of Pharoah wining the triple crown and the Breeders Cup. I miss him.
I was BLESSED to witness this race in person at Keeneland. I'm 22 years old and have watched horse racing since I was child. American Pharoah, in my opinion, is the greatest horse of my lifetime, just as the announcer stated. All I ever wanted growing up was a Triple Crown winner and he gave me that and so much more. Thanks for the memories my boy.
The caller said everything, the horse of a lifetime, he went out in style. So awesome to watch this video and the triple crown races. Good things to do while home bound. Be Safe Everybody, I Love You All, For Real!! We can and will endure this!!
"You will remember me, remember me for centuries!" Whenever I hear that song I'll forever think of American Pharoah. I will make sure my future kids and grandkids know about this horse, he needs to be remembered
The way Pharoah comes out of the gate always makes me smile - his head and his ears are straight up, a bounce in his step, and a little bit of a side-eye to the others
not only was he a beast on the track, but his stride is just pure poetry. i have never seen a horse with such a beautiful stride like that. it's like he floats. amazing
THERE WAS NO CATCHING THAT HORSE HE MADE HISTORY AND I AM SO HAPPY I GOT TO WITNESS IT!!! WAY TO GO AP! WHAT A GREAT WAY TO GO OUT WITH A BANG! CONGRATULATIONS!!! AND HAPPY RETIREMENT!
I cried happy tears when he won but i also am sad because he isn't going to run anymore but I watched him run in all of his career he is a truly special horse
I have long enjoyed watching Secretariat's last race (Toronto, October 1973) out here on UA-cam and it always makes me tear up a bit. Like American Pharoah, Secretariat won the famed Triple Crown in 1973 and was entered in some key races after his tremendous victory at Belmont. Also like Secretariat, American Pharoah was coming into his last race after having suffered a narrow loss in his previous race. (Hollywood can't write this any better!) I felt in my heart that American Pharoah would follow the way of Secretariat with a very comfortable win in the Breeders' Cup. Who for second then? That was harder for me to figure - there were several wonderful horses in the field. In the end I "wheeled" an exacta (4/all) with $10.00 on each horse (hoping for a long-shot in second, of course). My $70.00 bet paid something close to $400.00 (the exacta times five) which was greatly boosted by the 33-1 (#6 horse) which came in for second. I wish all my bets were this easy. P.S. Much credit should forever go to Mr. Zayat (owner of AP) and Miss Penny Chenery (Secretariat's owner, now 93 and still going strong!) for not retiring their beautiful horses directly after their Triple Crown win at Belmont. That would have been the "easy and sensible" thing to do - instead, these classy owners wanted to better promote the sport they so love by showcasing their champions in selected events which gave many thousands of (current and future) fans a chance to glimpse horse racing history. Forever thanks for wholly giving back in the way you both did!
I have just read a lot of the comment, below. It includes comparisons, of course. All sports comment does. But none of the comments can take away from the race I watched run by the first triple crown winner in a while. It stirred my soul. Thanks to the sport and thank you american pharoah...from the bottom of my heart. 4ever
I am old enough to remember the great Secretariat winning the final jewel in the triple crown by 31 lengths. Then came the amazing Cinderella story of Seattle Slew 4 years later, with the great rivalry between Affirmed and Alydar the very next year.. I was blessed as a kid to see these great thoroughbreds in action, and it guaranteed a lifetime love of thoroughbred horse racing. Like a lot of others my age, I started to think we may never see another triple crown winner before we died. Thank God for the arrival of American Pharoah! I got to witness greatness as an adult one more time! He is truly an amazing animal!
Can we not compare Secretariat and AP all the time? Jesus, all the TC winners are special in their own way, there's no sense even debating who would win because Secretariat is long gone!!
I agree. I just watching this punctuation mark on a great career. Sure, I would have loved to have seen him in the 2016 Classic with Arrogate and Chrome, but more for the spectacle. I don't need to compare AP with Big Red.
I think it's because AP is Secretariat's great-great-geat grandson is why they keep getting compared. Being attached to such a famous horse in pedigree, expectations naturally rose up when AP began to perform and perform well.
Won some good money on that race..was a great Halloween 🎃 that year! I love how AP has his ears up all around the track it’s like he’s saying “ I got this”!
+Im Stez and his great great great grandfather is Secretariat how awsome is that im curious to see who Amercan Pharoahs siblings are he has a sister name Cleopatra
Except he'd have lost by 30 LENGTHS to Secretariat in the 1973 Belmont. What happened in 1973 was BEYOND comprehension so START THINKING that way.... What really happened? Can horses really "hear people" and what were "the people" asking for at that moment.
I remember this soooo well. I cried as he so many traits..like Secritariat... but definitely a legend in his own right!!!! BEAUTIFUL HORSE!!!! "horse of A Lifetime".
Just so impressive. The best horses in the world are targeted for the BC Classic and AP just obliterates the field. The discussion can now be had where American Pharoah fits among the great horses of all time. It's probably a tough case to put him over Secretariat or Man O' War, but any other horse? 3rd greatest horse of all time?
+Randy Bailin sure he is great horse, didn't beat much in the classic and he was beaten in the Travers..... don't even mention him in the same sentence as the great Secretariat... Citation was better then AP
+reiningmoney I have one way of seeing this. When phenomenal horses run, they make great horses look like donkeys running against them. People say AP got away with easy fractions, nobody went with him early, they gave it away to him....let me tell you, did they not see Tonalist and Frosted making those big middle moves at the far turn to try to take it to AP? Did they not see Ortiz swatting Keen Ice before the last turn to try to stay in contention? Did they not see Honor Code not even make up any ground the last 1/8th as AP was pulling away after setting the pace and still put around 10 lengths on him? These are all good horses, American Pharoah just makes them look like regular horses. Give this horse the credit that is due. Whom has he beaten? Pretty much everything that has shown up!
+Randy Bailin No. He's the greatest horse in decades and he is wonderful to watch, but I'd say it's a stretch for him to make it in the top 15. There have been many, many amazing horses throughout history, most of them unknown to the general public because they haven't had movies made about them. :) Of course, it's all speculation. Times and wins and losses mean little when generations separate horses of high caliber.
+reiningmoney Even the great Secretariat lost races in his time. His loss to Onion in the Whitney is still considered one of the greatest upsets of all-time. Every athlete has the potential to have a bad outing, no matter how dominant they are. That said, I agree that AP isn't Secretariat's caliber. But few horses, no matter how great, ever were or will be.
...AND AMERICAN PHAROAH - IS GETTING AWAY!!!! This horse wasn't just competing against the other horses on the track in his career. He was battling history with every stride when he won the Belmont and Breeders Cup! What an athlete!
I love to watch horse race on tv! I love horses they are loveable; caring; warmth; i detest Animal Cruelty! Animals Have Rights Also! I am watching it October 2024 😢😢😢😮😮
No insurance premium comments ... Please ... The sport is about running .. not running to breed... Breeding to run... If only they had crazy incentives to keep them running.. especially the superstars ...Make it comparable to breeding money .... Sometimes to keep this sport interesting ...
American Pharaoh proved that he is the second-best three-year old thoroughbred race horse in modern horse racing history. Indeed, Pharaoh's achievement, winning the Grand Slam, and winning each race decisively, is one of the greatest sports accomplishments in history.
Pharaoh had a great stride and mind and the travers loss showed a champions heart even in defeat. I don't like to rank horses all time but he surely must be on the top 15 of all time.
first Secretariat descendant to win both the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Classic.AP reminds me of the friendly nature of Secretariat and the discipline and elegance of Man O'War.Farewell.You will be missed on the racetracks.
Every great champion should go out this way, by absolutely burying the competition. I remember the pre-race hype when everyone was talking about Shared Belief and Beholder and Honor Code, and how well those horses were running. Then Pharaoh got beat at the Travers, and everyone was jumping on Belief or Beholder's bandwagon to take down AP. I remember my last comment about the race online was saying- Let's keep it real here. AP is going to win this race. Sure, Shared Belief and Beholder both, unfortunately, dropped out, but AP ran a race that showed it wouldn't have mattered. Certainly the greatest horse since Cigar, and probably the greatest horse since Seattle Slew.
+Gel B don't get carried away, your probably to young to remember SECRETARIAT... you know the horse who ran 2:24 and won the Belmont by 31 lengths.... who won Horse of the year as a 2yr old and 3yr old and also won G1 races on Turf now that's a horse of 1000 lifetimes
Well, he is beaten 5 times. I blame on jokey for most of the losses. Second, I correct myself about one thing. SECRETARIAT is still in the first place.
Charles Ray No, not at all. I charge anyone who has an obsession with an animal's balls as mentally ill. On the contrary, we would all benefit from your removal from society. You are a pitiful individual who finds some sort of perverse pleasure from trolling on videos of Secretariat and American Pharoah. I shall no longer waste my time with someone beneath me.
This horse will be remembered for generations to come. It was a blessing to watch him racing.
Amen to that my friend
Amen to that.. I get chills watching his races.

Waited my whole life to see a triple crown winner. Love this horse
there are no words for this horse he is one of the best I have seen in a while
Congrats, Pharoah!!! you are the Secretariat of today. Best of luck in your new endeavour.
I admit I was teary when he came around the corner. What a treat he has been for everyone!
It's true aaronman, his nares were not flaring a bit. Love, love love this champion!!
This was just fucking sick!! He put away the pack like it was nothing; he is indeed the horse of a lifetime.
I have just read a lot of the comment, below. It includes comparisons, of course. All sports comment does. But none of the comments can take away from the race I watched run by the first triple crown winner in a while. It stirred my soul. Thanks to the sport and thank you american pharoah...from the bottom of my heart. 4ever
still gets me every time.....amazing.
One of the most dominating performances ever, against the best horses.
Gave me goosebumps just like in the Belmont Stakes call. Amazing horse to go out in style like that.
One of the greatest calls I've ever heard
Way to Go! He did it SO easily. Congratulations AP and All. Well done. See you soon.
Deserves his place among the greats
a special Nobel should be awarded for this transcendent achievement
"A horse of a lifetime"!!! Nothing more needed to say.....
最強の証!!何回見ても痺れる!
greatest hero!!! thank you from japan
american pharoah looked like he was having fun the whole time, his ear were forward and looked like he was having a blast. What an awesome horse :-)!
I was there at the Breeders Cup just to watch Pharoah run his final race. :)
true admiration for pharoah. we all know there will never be another big red, so, can we please just appreciate this beauty.
I think the fact that people feel such a need to defend Secretariat against him now speaks for itself actually.
Well, Secretariat did set a new record in 2012, becoming the first horse to do so 23 years after he had been gone.
I think it's because AP is Secretariat's great-great-geat grandson is why they keep getting compared. Being attached to such a famous horse in pedigree, expectations naturally rose up when AP began to perform and perform well.
@@nickthestick26 secretariat has all 3 track records dipshit no debate
Great horse ,his offspring need following future champions in the making .
Awesome horse ,huge stride ,beautiful to look at .
He's such a beautiful mover, just so fluid, I could watch him run all day..
Amazing just amazing! You're still wonderful too Frosted
Won some good money on that race..was a great Halloween 🎃 that year!
I love how AP has his ears up all around the track it’s like he’s saying “ I got this”!
Did you see that smile on him after he finished? Hes like "Yeah... im immortal... what else is new"
This horse is a fucking beast!!!
I was surprised by how exhilarating I found this, impressive
The great great great grandson of the finest horse to ever win the triple crown. What a pedigree.
American Pharoah is the king of the Breeder's Cup Classic and we know it. American Pharoah is a racing legend to me.
golly this horse is so much better than justify
great watching in HD..thanks
I remember this soooo well. I cried as he so many traits..like Secritariat... but definitely a legend in his own right!!!! BEAUTIFUL HORSE!!!! "horse of A Lifetime".
King Pharoah
A truly great horse. Had he been pushed that final 1/4 mile, he would have run well under 2:00, a remarkable time on the Keenland track.
the others didn't even have a chance!! what a great horse!!! 🏇
+Randy Bailin Cigar had a better career than AP
Larry was so emotional there he really does put a lot into his calls
...AND AMERICAN PHAROAH - IS GETTING AWAY!!!!
This horse wasn't just competing against the other horses on the track in his career. He was battling history with every stride when he won the Belmont and Breeders Cup! What an athlete!
I don't think we will see another horse quite like American Pharoah for a long time.
Credit, to Victor too,,, Viva Mexico.
I love to watch horse race on tv! I love horses they are loveable; caring; warmth; i detest Animal Cruelty! Animals Have Rights Also! I am watching it October 2024
😢😢😢😮😮
"A horse of a LIFETIME!!!" Great call.
We seen movies on Pharlap, Sea Biscuit and Secretariat.
Is there a good story for a film on AP !!
Superstar is an understatement!
Baffert said it best, horses like AP don't come around often. He's special. He's just different, he is most definitely 1 in a lifetime.
No insurance premium comments ... Please ... The sport is about running .. not running to breed... Breeding to run... If only they had crazy incentives to keep them running.. especially the superstars ...Make it comparable to breeding money .... Sometimes to keep this sport interesting ...
Baffert trained three 'once in a lifetime' horses in the last decade. What a juice master.😂😂
American Pharaoh proved that he is the second-best three-year old thoroughbred race horse in modern horse racing history. Indeed, Pharaoh's achievement, winning the Grand Slam, and winning each race decisively, is one of the greatest sports accomplishments in history.
+Charles Ray I think you're forgetting a certain horse named Frankel?
Pharaoh had a great stride and mind and the travers loss showed a champions heart even in defeat. I don't like to rank horses all time but he surely must be on the top 15 of all time.
first Secretariat descendant to win both the Triple Crown and the Breeders' Classic.AP reminds me of the friendly nature of Secretariat and the discipline and elegance of Man O'War.Farewell.You will be missed on the racetracks.
am so glad AP won his last race just as his great great great grandsire,Secretariat did.Way to go AP!
HOrse of a lifetime is for sure! Love this guy
American Pharaoh, a horse of one hundred life times.....
+reiningmoney Yeah the horse that also got beaten 5 times
Well, he is beaten 5 times. I blame on jokey for most of the losses. Second, I correct myself about one thing. SECRETARIAT is still in the first place.
Charles Ray No, not at all. I charge anyone who has an obsession with an animal's balls as mentally ill. On the contrary, we would all benefit from your removal from society. You are a pitiful individual who finds some sort of perverse pleasure from trolling on videos of Secretariat and American Pharoah. I shall no longer waste my time with someone beneath me.
Charles Ray
ahhhhh haha ha! i knew it! You are one aren't ya. Goddamn im good. IM GOOD!
