  • Being able to contact the emergency services, in the event of an emergency, is an important matter to address.
Could you contact the emergency services and provide all the relevant information?
In this video, we suggest a way of contacting 999, in the UK, via SMS. It's easy, free and useful.
When phone signal is poor an emergency SMS may go through; all the information required could be composed into a text and the emergency services could respond to that information.
The emergency SMS service lets deaf, hard of hearing and speech-impaired people, in the UK, send an SMS text message to the UK 999 service where it will be passed to the police, ambulance, fire rescue, mountain rescue etc.

We always recommend a map and compass, with the knowledge of how to use them.
However, apps can speed up the process of establishing your location. Once your location is displayed within the app, copy and paste that information into your emergency SMS.

excellent video, i have registered too. my advise would be to learn some navigation basics at the very least before heading out in the hills. Never rely on other people to find the way. if something happens to your shepherd you are in trouble.

It is a good system that you have developed in the UK and it makes good sense to be able to contact the emergency services with a SMS. So register, bring along a powerbank and keep your phone in a plastic bag for an extra layer of protection on your hike!

I have only just seen this and a question arises, is this UK wide or local to your area; ie, Buxton. Thanks in advance.
