One of the best things about the film Penelope is seeing New York City in the 1960s, it was so clean and so beautiful back then.

I love Penlope, it is such a fun movie. I love zany stuff and Natalie Wood is brilliant at comedy like that. She has always been a favorite of mine. And I love Peter Falk and Dick Shawn too, they are both brilliant. You get the idea that Peter's character is head over heals in love with her but he is trying to keep it all in check. Brilliant! I'm looking forward to all those films.

My kids and I are crazy about Penelope and feel like it's so underseen. Thrilled to hear Anders talk about it. Perfectly cast movie and fun to see Bill Gunn as Falk's partner.

The Big Trail (1930) is an underrated classic western. John Wayne proved he could lead a film even in a widescreen epic by Raoul Walsh. Quite a feat for a first time lead role. Great choice by Allison.
And as for White Heat, one of my favorite Cagney films. Love that Allison gave Raoul Walsh a shoutout here. Fantastic filmmaker of the classic era.

The Big Trail is like having a time machine. I bought it on blu-ray a few years ago, and just couldn't believe it's almost a hundred years old. It looks as if it was filmed yesterday. Great movie, by one of the best directors! Great pick!

Watch the Trail of the Lonesome Pine from Paramount
That is a great time capsule.

Miss the Friday eve stretches from March and April. Really wish TCM would work in some films that are still 50 yrs old from 70s.

Thank you Allison. Excellent recommendations. White Heat showed Jimmy Cagney’s immense range of talent (he was so bad!). 🎞️ 🎥

Allison, are you familiar with William Everson Collection at NYU. He has a collection of pre code films that are to die for.

William Everson was one of the greAtest film historians. He wrote books on the subject as well as gave seminars on film at NYU
His archive has a vital collection of rare historic films.

Didn't John Williams compose the score for "Penelope"? (I know, I could look it up, but I have vivid memories of the covers of soundtrack albums.)

TCM should wise up and allow cable and satellite cutters paid access in an on demand site. You can only access their on demand channel if you have cable or satellite. They lose millions of potential customers by not having an on demand pay per view system.

Have you seen the 1937 , Paramount film Easy Living, directed by the great Mitchell Leisen. Mr. Osborne loved this film. The script and the passion of the film was our favorite director and creator, Preston Sturgis.
The cast is spectacular with the great Jean Arthur leading the way along with a very young Ray Milland.
If anyone wants to view this film it is available at UA-cam.
One more thing, Paramount was the king of comedy films.
Too bad Tcm has gone down hill with its terrible programming along with its lacklustre hosts

I have a question about a movie i watched one day on tcm. I've been trying to find out this name of a movie I only know the plot and that it's a romantic comedy. Google don't help so don't suggest it lol. Theirs a couple who go to France I think to get married before he has to go back into the army or navy. And theirs another couple well not a acouple. The guy doesn't like marriage. So the first couple the guy was swimming and she accidently dove on his head and she kinda fell out of love with him. And it was funny. Toreds the end she was swimming and he dove on her head and bonked the love back into her. It was a funny cute love story and that's all I remember. Can anyone help!! I don't remember who stared in it!

It's been over 12 plus years since Operation Petticoat with Cary Grant has played, The Private Eyes with Tim Conway and Don Knotts has never played, along with The Apple Dumpling gang movies, The Deep with Robert Shaw, I don't believe has ever played, TCM needs to back up and regroup on programming.

Alison, your film choices were picked by Tcm,not from you.
    This bit is so phony
    TCM stoops so low.
They can't honestly pick their film choices
Teir choices would be more eclectic.
