Hooking the Shure directly to the electrical outlet sure sounds like a good announcement it could make. Looks to be made of that extremely brittle deluxe vintage plastic.
The Shure 444 microphone was designed for radio communication use, ie Ham Radio, CB etc. NOT as a general purpose mic. Hence it's frequency response is tailored for that purpose. You wouldn't use it for Hi-Fi or music etc. it was not meant for that. For voice communication in Ham Radio it was well respected and still is, especially with more vintage equipment.
Since it’s a vintage Shure mic I was surprised that it sounded that horrible. If you ever planning to blow up a microphone, connect an amp to the output wires of the microphone and blow it up.
Someone needs to make a audio plugin to go with that that emulates "crappy over driven and distorting outdoor horn speakers" For that classic school lunchtime PA announcement vibe
It's really amazing to see you still here after all these years. I've watched you and looked up to you since i was 9. I'm 20 now and i still love seeing you around.
Yeah eh! I had noticed the ham guys were still using them and the many versions that came of it over the years, but I thought that whole CB radio tone was from the wireless limitations of frequencies not the microphone, what if I used a good microphone on a radio? haha guess its designed for vocals though but that bass roll-off is nuts its like got a high pass at 200 Hz built in
I'm curious to know how well one of my old microphones stacks up to that one. The one(s) I have are an old pair of Telefunken D-77's from 1962 that were originally used in a stereo setup to record for an old tape machine. They had been converted from a proprietary jack to XLR but unfortunately one of the mics broke. I stuffed the working one full of foam to dampen vibrations and tried using it to record guitar, though it sounded like crap lol. I'm sure they could be used for something, but right now they're just a room decoration.
I love the aesthetics of these types of vintage PA mics. I had one similar to that mic. I still have all my old CB radio equipment and including a couple D104 Silver Eagle microphones. Beautiful mics to say the least. I keep one on the shelf. Hey Garrett, I see you have a Reel to Reel deck on the shelf. Have you ever done a video about that? Do you have any other vintage stuff equipment? Just thinking I'd love to see you demo or talk about any thing else vintage you might have floating around. Cool video btw 👍
funny thing that reel to reel was given to me just like that, I never plugged it in and have no idea what is on the tapes ! I never had to use one before in my lifetime so it might be something really funky to poke at :P
@@GarretClaridgeMeerkat 👍 definitely would be interesting to see if it works and what's on the tapes. Reel to reel decks can be a lot of fun to use and even experiment with. I'm still all about analog tape.
I guess I grew up at the wrong time hehe (born 91) I used a tape player, same as I have on the shelf. I can kinda see in this video sony spots yellow thing but think around grade 3 I was using Diskmans and CD players, I'm more interested in the ipod Era than anything I think I spent my first few UA-cam payments to get the first generation ipod touch But the past gear is interesting there's so many formats... you probably didn't even notice to the right of the reel player you mentioned is another that plays smaller reels at the top some kinda philips made in Holland thing
@@GarretClaridgeMeerkat I was an early 80's kid so cassettes were my thing but my father and a few others still used open reel tapes. It had my attention from day 1. My profile pic is the one my dad bought new back in 78'. I have it now and still use it a lot. Its a little more effort to make a tape but playing it back is very visually satisfying. Plus, a good working deck and a good tape, the quality would really surprise you. For me, tape has a warm life like sound you don't get with digital formats. Sure, digital is way cleaner but sometimes real analog sounds better. Like how tubes can sound warmer versus solid state (guitar amps & home audio). Idk, this the sound I grew up. Plus the mechanics of some old decks are really really interesting. And you're right I didn't see the other tape player. You should do little videos on some of your shelf stuff. Do little demos or just talk about it. Sometimes the back stories on how you got something and why it's on the shelf, can be just as interesting as the thing itself. Just a thought. Thanks for the reply buddy 👍🍻
The bottom switch, when switched to VOX, only activates the mic when noise is detected at a certain threshold, then turns back off when no more sound is detected.
Always enjoy your vids Garrett. The two microphone types that I always remember are cardioid and condenser. I don't know near as much as you but it doesn't sound half bad.
I have one of these mics, the plastic is VERY brittle and was damaged when I moved, the extra wire like you said was connected to the switch, and was likely used to "key-up" a CB or HAM transceiver. I got my mic with a SWAN 350 rig. Since the plastics of mine are shot I may put the mic element into a Motorola mic that has a non functional element inside. That kic is made of metal!
Reminds me of that Sampson stage 5h mic you tested years ago but that didn’t make it to a sound test 😂 always enjoy these type of videos tho! Should blow a school pa speaker with that mic 😂
Oh yes I had the ugly logos tapped over :P Behringer B210D, They are fine when used in the right situation but I replaced the woofers with eminence alpha I think. Paid very little for them originally would never have paid full for that era of that brand haha but they held up good and I've been full tilt abusing them
The Sure 444 an excellent mic with a good reputation among hams. Has a good voice tone a heard over the air on HF bands. Plus it looks good in the shack and is ergonomic.
Hi I have a Wave home theater system pro series HDX-55Q. I be happy if you can help on how it works or can be used the box only contain sub woofer and couple of surround speakers.
Wow it's been a long time since I've seen one of those That's really showing my age I remember seeing one at my primary school years ago I'm sure I've seen one at the high school as well but I can't remember😆😆😆😆😆😆

I can’t believe it sounds this muffled, it has to have like a funky impedance or something because even cheap stuff from the 80s has better treble than that
Shure has sure come a long way
sure !
they shure have :)

Clipping, distortion, and high pass. Maybe some reverb. That’s all you need

Drunk buy a bus PA system, only the highest quality announcing.
Fun times with a classic microphone ! Great seeing you Garret ~ you rock !
I was using the same mic with an ham radio. Worked nicely with it

What a taffing good way to spend a Sunday.
Would be cool if you made a video on testing more microphones you have through the recorder. Love this channel
I swear I last saw one of those microphones at the service desk at a K-Mart...

You reminded me that I have a Astatic D104 in my attic that I havent touched in 20 yrs. I bet that 9V battery has ruined it by now.😳😞
Ayyyo.. He's back once again aha
Hey everybody Garrett Claridge here!
The king of destruction is back 😂what up Garett
The bottom switch, when switched to VOX, only activates the mic when noise is detected at a certain threshold, then turns back off when no more sound is detected.
That internal mic unit almost looks like those those old telephone receiver mics where they use another one just like it as a speaker.
looks like the microphone that’s in the music vid for real slim shady
I love your speaker blow out videos
Always enjoy your vids Garrett.
The two microphone types that I always remember are cardioid and condenser. I don't know near as much as you but it doesn't sound half bad.
Interesting microphone!! Doesn’t sound very good, but adequate for PA systems. Shure has come a long way since.
Man it looks like somthing old school intercoms would use.
Thats what it was used for
@@forzaguy1252like somthing you would see in a movie or somthin

Exactly the microphone used in the airport terminal
bro shoudl say in the pa WHO THREW A HOTDOG DOWN THE HALLWAY DENTENTION FOR YOU
Would you be able to blow speakers with the microphone?
be good to see this
not really a bad buy. maybe not the most useful mic but for the nostalgic and a collectable to sit on the vintage shelf could be a good addition
I believe that switch on the bottom toggles between push-to-talk and a handsfree talk-to-talk mode.
Nah, that was my thought too but I read the manual haha -- something I did not notice was you can push and slide the button to lock it on!
Let's go! Finally a new upload!
Reminds me of that Sampson stage 5h mic you tested years ago but that didn’t make it to a sound test 😂 always enjoy these type of videos tho! Should blow a school pa speaker with that mic 😂
i also drunk ebay bought one of those, it lives on the shelf now .
Hey garret, i would like to ask you what speaker did you hook up the microphone to? Looks quite plasticky!

Wicked microphone!
Wow it's Incredible
The triple 4 mic love to have it for my hamradio station
Lol when you recorded it it sounded like a radio station an old radio station
Garret, you defenetly have to try the song "From Zero to Zed - Timeless" to blow up Speakers! 😂👍
i would love too see if u could find an old wire mic from the 30s XD that would be super awesome
Yay! Garret Claridge is back!! 🙃
Eat the packing peanuts
Hey Everybody Clarret Garidge here
nice
maybe it could be useful for recording a sort of warm piano part
Bro I need to find the track "drop it hard akira the tyfure" I know you used it in your videos but I can't find it anywhere!
Ive heard them on the air on hamradio they sound great smooth sounding its not junk 😢
3:00 I love that sticker x3 "The best things in life are furry" hehe
That's an old school mic they used them with a 1/4 inch plug to plug them into the schools intercom
Now I think the next step is to wire an indoor/outdoor PA system into your home. Obviously
Nice!
No way. I have the same one. With timely modifications of course

the real one is made of metal
Would not make a good guest Mike at a radio station.

hi
Garret Claridge is getting old

What happend to bros teeth
He has a bone deficiency so his teeth kept falling out one by one so he had them all removed
Hi
Because instead of breaking the equipment, give me some, l'll send you an address and everything
thats terrible for shure haha

Weird.
Are you going to get tooth transplants? Its kinda off putting tbh
yeah, no clue why ive put it off so long, thats my signature move haha
