I love that Samsung uses one type of screws for all components in their phones and even across different models. Makes repair a lot easier and the phone works just as good.
As a screw collector, I must say that it spoils the fun with just one type of screw. If I had to decide, each screw would be different.

The reason you won't find Android parts in a backalley store is because the is no need for that, you can order replacement parts directly from the manufacturer.
The entire reason this market exists for iPhones is that Apple refuses to sell their parts to shops and individuals that don't want to pay their apple certification fee.
And the same goes for other Apple products, such as iMacs. Ultimately as he said, this abundance of iPhone parts is also due to the fact Apple releases fewer models compared to other companies.
You also can order online on popular sites
They won't even sell you the parts if you're authorized.
@KeonXD yeah but the difference is that if the manufacturer supports parts it's way easier for people to buy and sell parts
I will never give my money to Apple again. Huawei is for me!! 💪🏻
Great video, a reason for lack of parts in China is because Samsung actually makes it easy to order them online, whereas apple's supply chain is locked down
Actually there are not many people using Samsung in China nowadays, so it is not easy to get the used parts🤣
Or just low market shares in China. Makes s10 and s9 parts rare.
@@partrickw.gg.8541 I'm sure that's also a factor, though shengzen does repair for other countries so I don't think it's the entire reason
One of the most important factors is that stolen iPhones are sent to China for disassembly and part reuse since the iCloud lock prevents stolen iPhones from being possible to resell whole, while stolen Samsung phones are just illegally resold locally.
or maybe Samsung last longer?
Man builds an s9+ from scratch
Gets stumped by a lock screen
fast and easy to remove on pie 9 update or 8
Not really scratch. More like Man assembles a s9 plus. I was hoping he would buy a system on a chip and make a pcb and everything. There are projects on HackaDay where people actually do build phones from the ground up.
@@excitedbox5705 The video wouldn't be as interesting as it is now as he would have to do quite a bit of research and either put most of part numbers on the screen or just compare it all the time with some existing products (eg. "CPU the same as in pixel 3", "screen same as in galaxy S10", etc.) and finished product wouldn't look like a finished and assembled phone.
The lockscreen problem itself shows how unprepared he was for this video, but that's another story.
I think he went I to the bootloader to do it, which is something that not even most Android users know exist.
@@excitedbox5705 He actually wanted to do that when he first set out to assemble the first iPhone, but thought that it would be way too complicated. That's why he didn't even consider that in this project.

Strange Parts: "Do you have these Samsung wires?"
Employee of the month: "Let me ask my boss"
Boss: "We don't have Samsung" :')
well, we don´t know. maybe it was just his wife watching over the shop while the owner was taking a piss or ordering some parts online in the back office :o
Right.. I was like "You don't even know what brands you sell?" 🤔
I mean they most likely sell parts from hundreds of different manufacturers and we don't know how long they've worked there.
Boss: We sell burgers here
I wonder if it was more the employee being suspicious of what a random non-Chinese person is doing trying to buy Samsung parts. They probably checked with their boss to avoid getting in trouble. It's entirely possible they did have Samsung parts and the boss was just trying to cover their grey market asses.
Next challenge: build your own "cyberpunk" smartphone using different parts that is compatible (or maybe you can adapt) to it, choosing what screen you want, what cameras, ports, speakers, and more
Sometimes I think if it's possible today, to build your own custom DIY smartphone, choosing what models and parts of the components do you want, like the mainboard, chipset, cameras, speakers, sensors, screen. If you can find or order such a variety of tech components and custom components on China at the point that you can build a advanced piece of tech like a smartphone, will be wild, a glimpsy of the future

The Samsung parts are hard to tell the difference between, but that's what makes them so good normally. Samsung perfected the design for their parts to make it simple to assemble, so they don't make drastic changes for every new model. Apple, on the other hand, focuses on making their phones difficult to assemble, and more importantly difficult to take apart, so they change up the shapes of their parts every new model. That leads to more unique shapes for Apple, but a far simpler construction for Samsung, which I appreciate as someone who likes to fix my phone instead of throwing it away for every little problem that comes up.

Can you tell us the price of all parts combined ?!?!
Fendula Ratsq $21
@@MrNYCinc nope not really
Fendula Ratsq it is for sure under 150. Maybe 120. Since parts don’t cost much and they are used.
$69
I wa about to say the same thing
Now i wanna buy s9 plus which was my old main😅
"hello, do you-"

Because they don't say 10 , they say S - 1 - 0 , S Yao ling instead of S shi
the cantonese 4 and 10 are phonetically reversed. So there is also confusion
@@larsradtke4097 S一零?We don't say that. Proof: I'm Chinese myself. Samsung isn't popular in China, and some random electric parts seller may not even know samsung has a new phone.
@@eastpavilion-er6081 你确定你不说这样吗? 大部分的人在华强北,Scotty找这些零件都使用S一零。我应该知道因为我天天都订S10的配件。我说了S10没有人听得懂。
S10 models are still relatively new, only a few specialized sellers would carry those as they’re expensive to repair.
Lars Radtke Possibly, never heard anyone say S-1-0 but that’s just me. Probably because it sounds like S Sh*t if you’re not careful with the pronunciation.
Could we please just appreciate scotty's editor's montage skills for a moment.... 1:31 - 2:03 fckin love it

Imagine him speaking to aliens to negotiate buying UFO parts from them.
Lmao best comment
👽 am I a joke to you?
I was wondering why you were looking for an S10 then I realised this was 5 years ago 🙂😊
I waited for the price comparison, original price vs yours. but.... disappointed
The only point of interest. Any phone that's been sold for a period of time can be built as shown...
Same
X4 the price comparision
Me too
same as the rest of us... What did it cost you!!!

Well, you can make that in China, too, and it will be way more cheaper.

Everything.

What was the total cost USD on the project.Great Job!!
Yeah I'd like to know this too
@@mounirelkirafi $134.65, working off the prices provided, I don't think he gave a price for the logic board, but I don't imagine it would have cost much considering the price of all the other parts, so you're probably looking at somewhere around $140-$150ish

Challenge: Build your own concept phone.
Your dreams specs of course if possible
I was kind of hoping that is what this video was going to be.
Koome His concept, not theirs. Point would be to buy parts openly that are what they are, not looking for dubious spares or clones of a specific model.
So he could start with a reference board from one of the chip makers (Qualcomm, MediaTek, or a less known brand), hook up parts like battery, cameras, screen, plugs etc. Use the part factories software kits and the Android reference software to cobble together a working phone. Fun part is finding suppliers who don't require a minimum buy of 10000 units to give him the files.
