I once had an 00-18 but sold it during my college years, 60 years ago. I now again have a 1965 Martin 00-18 and thoroughly enjoy playing it. At that time you had to wait many months for this guitar and it had a rosewood fret board, I purchased mine off Reverb. I love the tone and it is one of my favorite guitars. I especially enjoy mahogany guitars as I was brought up listening my father play his 1945 Martin D-18. These guitars do improve with age and are one of the best guitars to purchase and enjoy for the rest of your lifetime. Now at 82, I play mine every day!
My friend Alec has a 00-18 that I was fortunate enough to borrow for some time in the early 2000s. That's unquestionably the greatest acoustic guitar I ever got to play.
Beautiful song and playing. I play 00-18 and 00-28. Truly best guitar for any situation.. especially finger picking ❤ only change I would like would be VTS torified top standard on all standard series.
Though an excellent guitar it is not the same quality or character of the 00-18 V One advantage though, by this time Martin may have corrected the universal experience of the "tortoise" binding coming off the earlier 00-18v models. My first Martin 00 was a 1939 00-17. A magical guitar. Last of the 1 3/4 nut widths until recent times. Material quality and workmanship far superior.
nice demo , i have a D-18 and a 000-15m i love them , but i’m obsessive with guitar and i want to buy another one soon .. i’m so confused to choose between the 00-18 or 000-18 , i really like the 00-18 , it seems very good to play old country songs, i think bob Dylan used one in his nashville skyline era , i like to play in the summer on my porch outside i just worry if it’s too quiet to play outside or the dynamics and frequencies projecting are good outside
For Martin's I have a D18 ('37 authentic), a 000-16 Streetmaster & a 00-14 custom shop sinker mahogany & adirondack VTS. I'm responding for one reason. I know the feeling of wondering if the 00 or the 000 is right, and all I can say is that while I still wonder (because I purchased online) I'd NEVER sell the 00. It's that good. Now, what I care about in tone may be totally different to you. I can tell that the 00 isn't as loud as my D-18, but it's an unfair comparison to the 000-16 because that's rosewood. Instead, I would say the difference is really the bass notes. In a 000 you'll get more volume and deeper notes. You can get that from your D-18, man. What you can't get is the almost rhythm guitar style mids that blend as an overall tone, and that's what the 00 offers when you strum. Of course, my guitar is a bit different than a standard 00-18, but it's not wildly different. Mahogany + Spruce is still there. Ultimately, though, you talk about playing outside on the porch. It's too quiet without a pick, so the 000 is probably going to be that volume you want if you have a lighter attack, but again, you sacrifice the midrange of the 00 for bass with the 000, and if you get an adi top like I did you can play it hard and it's SUPER loud, even in a small body.
@@DanTrappHey Dan, good thoughts on this theme of comparing 00 to 000. Was your 00-14 Custom a limited run from the Custom Shop or did you ordered it directly to your specifications? What Bridge String-Spacing is on yours? The actual usual 2 5/32" of the standard? And may I ask you about the price of that Custom Model? Adi-Top on that one must be nice.. I'm interested in an 00-18.. Would appreciate your answer.
Ursula Myers, Martin recommends light gauge 92/8. I bought a used, 00-18 from 2018 and it came with Elixer 80/20. I swapped them out with a set of Martin’s Authentic Acoustic 92/8, and the difference is night and day. Highly recommend. Great match for this guitar. www.martinguitar.com/guitars/standard-series/00-18/

Prefer the 000-18. It’s warmer and less ‘twangy.’ That’s the ‘size’ you’re hearing. Smaller guitars are more projecting but can be ‘harsher sounding, Try a 000. Not much bigger than this 00. Tried them both. I prefer the 000.
I have two 0-18s, a 1965 00-18 and a 000-18. All from the 1960s. Of them all, I like the 00-18 the best. I also have BRW guitars from the same era. I still like the 00 the best. They have a very balanced tone and easy to play on stage. I also have K&K pickups on then for the larger venues. The guitar I played back in 1962 was an 00 that I sold back then. My favorite Martin - and I've had so many models.

Awesome. I took up guitar omly 5-years ago and play my 00-18 most days, great little guitar.

Beautiful playing

What is this tuning?
I have a 71 0018. It was in for repairs (700!) Came back with Aquila strings. Hate them. What are the best strings for this lovely guitar?

what song is he playing? I wanna learn it
It's not a "song" it is a tune. Sings are sung.
A real bone nut! Wow that must add £1 to the price
Very nice. But for that price, it better be!
Looks like a Recorder king RO-318😂
I was expecting the wood pattern to be better on a Martin.
What do you mean by "pattern" ?
Are you sure the guitar being played isn't a triple 0?
I have to agree it does look like 000 that’s being played here.
I think the guy is smaller and the guitar is right.
Definitely a 00-18.
Why so much fret buzz?
He’s pounding away with a thumb pick when strumming. A flat pick wouldn’t beat up on the strings that harshly.
Short scale guitars combined with drop tuning require a soft touch or they will buzz
@@cmakely60Who says the 00-18 has a short scale? It's 24.9". That's shorter than a Fender Strat, but longer than a Gibson Les Paul.
Too thin strings, ergo too low tension.
That mic didn't help too much 😉
got one myself but i just hate that tortoise pickguard i had to buy one without that and put a black pickguard on it , great guitar tho'
Black pick guards do not belong on Martins. Hideous.

Buzzy
Ever heard of strumming? Every video I see on acoustics in finger picking.
I prefer watching someone play a guitar rather than strum it.
So, learn to fingerpick, choose another video and stop thinking you are the only audience. 😘
00 guitars are generally for finger pickers.
@@paurelius885 And musicians.
It’s cause the 0, 00, and 000 guitars excell at fingerpicking…
