  • The Engwe EP-2 500w comes out of the box at great value. Very usable as is, and will give plenty of pleasure to the new owner. I decided to upgrade a few components for personal preference, which cost very little to do, and made a great bike even better. This review, after several months ownership, only strengthens my decision on buying this model. The price is difficult to beat for what you get. A 500w motor with a 48v 12.5ah battery, for less than something of lower spec. Engwe appear to have done a good job with this, there's even a 750w version available now too. Ok, you can't compare it to top of the range e-bikes. but for a cheap way to get into e-bikes, you can't go wrong.
Tyre liners now fitted for that extra protection.

I've had this since 21 September and still going strong. New cables and breaks have been fitted and it's so easy to do , I've done 4 rear punctures none in the front tire so far . . I've been on the road alot so I avoid prickles or thorns as much as possible now. Gunu get gluep when I get new tires for more off roading as well,. Overall this bike rocks. Needs that lube for the chain every so often job done. I'm one happy rider 😄👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I payed 1100 and I think its still worth it even at that price. This thing still has its original seat and pedals the only thing new is flued brakes and 2 puncture fixes. So far so good all I need is chain and gear lube and my bike has been faultless since September. Amazing ebike. 👍

A little tip you might need one day, If your headstock develops a slight looseness, fold away the bars, undo the allen bolt to remove the stem, under is a black collar with slots, unscrew this and under there is the large nut you need to tighten up. Reverse to reassemble. Five minute job.

I had a rear puncture on mine a few months back, but I managed to get some of the Kenda 20 x 4.125 Heavy Duty inner tubes and they are a hell of a lot thicker and haven't had a puncture since.
Regarding the brakes, the stock calipers are complete garbage. I was almost killed a few days ago because the brakes failed to work and I overshot a junction. Luckily it was late at night and there were no cars around, but it could have been deadly. The stock calipers are a cheap chinese brand that I'd never heard of, but I replaced them with some Tektro Novelas from my other bike and even that's a huge improvement. I was going to get the Zoom Xtech HB100 calipers, but I'd read that they too don't last very long. Whilst the Novelas don't have a great reputation either I'd already had them for 7 years and had no issues with them.
    Thanks for the videos.

I didn't know the difference between a cassette and a freewheel and cassettes can have numerous spline patterns whereas the latter has but one. On changing the freewheel however I still find the pedals cycle too slowly for the wheel cycle or maybe I'm simply doing 24mph everywhere 🚀. Looking to reduce the cog further. I do though use it to get to work and it's a strong capable ride. Not a motorbike.
