  • In this video I repair our Maytag Washing Machine that was making a loud noise. I used a bucket, towel, pliers, and a 1/4 inch nut driver. I unplug the washer then turn the water off. I remove the drain hose from the washer. I take the back off of the washing machine to gain access to the drain pump. I remove the hose from the drain pump. In our case it was a broken zipper that was in the drain pump that was making the noise. Thanks for watching!

Great video. One thing might make your job a little easier as far as making sure there is nothing else in the pump, the white part of the pump exterior is a cover for the prop. It comes off with two or three screws (yours is three I think) but if you remove that you can inspect the fan as well as the seals without trying to feel it with the fingers. It will also help if you have something smaller stuck in the pum as often times little nails or whatever will wedge themselves underneath the blade. Cool stuff tho

Just fixed mine w/o parts! I removed the pump and separated the magnetic coil from the impeller housing and opened it up hoping I could remove and clean the impeller, but I doesn't come out. I tried cleaning with dish soap and vinegar alternately but didn't help much. I worked some Marvel Mystery oil into the impeller and worked it up and down and turned the impeller getting some results. Finally sprayed with some LU711 spray lube, like CRC and man did that do the trick. Reinstalled the pump after cleaning and lubing all seals and it works quietly without the rattles! Works like new!

Glad i found this video, I can feel the plastic fan like pieces inside the pump , they seem jammed to me, are they suppose to spin all the way wondering if there could be something lodge on the farther side that i can't reach, the sound was so loud like a 8 second startling buzzing screetch rattle , and it didn't drain the clothes all the way, had to ring out by hand good thing it was just little baby girl clothes. It started doing this when i tried to use the hand wash cycle.

Thank you! I have a different model Maytag washer but this video helped me tremendously. I’d unintentionally washed work pants that had several rivet stems in one of the pockets. When the washer drained, it sounded like a bunch of coins being tossed around…similar to a slot machine. As soon as I pulled the hose off, I found the problem. I did take another reviewers advice. I removed the pump and shorter hose and cleaned them as well, since I already had it apart.

I've got that same one, but my problem has been that wits shaking bad when in the spin cycle...the whole washer violently moves. We replaced the shock absorbers and such, but that didn't work. Any advice?

If you go inside the the washer itself you can take off the washer blade by twisting the middle nob inside. After the knob is off use a socket to unscrew the hex head. Once that’s off check around and see if their is anything that shouldn’t be there

I have the exact washing machine and went under it from the front instead of the rear. I could hear and feel my pump running, but nothing was draining. I was able to remove the black rubber pump inlet house and found a bunch of gunk, hair and bobby pins that were stuck at the outlet of the tub. By using one of those small plastic drain snakes with lots of barbs, I cleared the tub exit. I think I'm back in business. Thanks for the video and getting me headed in the direction of the tub to pump to drain circuit that ended up being clogged.

I had a similar issue, I took off the back panel , I took off the agitator , turns out what I had to do was have someone help turn the unit so the bottom can be accessed , and around motor there is a protective plastic housing, that one piece broke off and pointed up to the fly wheel creating a clicking sound, I just bent it back and the problem was solved . Hope that can help someone

    Important info (from Maytag's website):
If no water is detected entering washer after 13 minutes, the washer will go into a drain routine.
When the washer goes into a drain routine, it will sound like it's draining for approximately 8 to 10 minutes, during which time the pump will run continuously. The control will not accept any input during this time. Please wait 10 minutes before trying to perform any functions.
I just took the damn thing apart for no reason (it was a royal pain in the az because of tight quarters). I thought I had forgot to take an Allen key out of my pocket, along with a tiny hex nut on the end.
I rushed over to the machine after it already filled+started washing, and started removing my soaking wet clothes from the washer, hoping to locate the Allen wrench+hex nut. I got the whole thing apart+put back together. Soon after I was done I thought to check on my car's passenger seat for the wrench+nut and they were there. I looked everywhere except the car.
The moral of the story is that if you start removing clothes after the machine already filled up with water, it's going to go to the 10 minute long auto drain cycle. Because it kept draining after all the water in the tub was gone, I thought something was stuck in the pump (like in this video). What a 💩 sandwich.

Union made junk! My Maytag dryer broke within a year. My Maytag washer barely lasted five years. When I was a child we had one washer and dryer that lasted my entire childhood. American products (especially union made) are extremely unreliable. Time to but Samsung or LG.

Union workers just assemble them. The problem in this video and the problems I had were all design or user error related. They're engineered to be cheap to make and easy to manufacture. Can't blame the unions for that.
