If the washer was old enough and yes you cleared the coin, but while all apart just replace the drain pump, then you never need to tackle the drain pump for 10 to 15 years.
I found the drain hose clogged with the material from a rug, it was almost like sandy paper. I used a clothes hanger wire (with sharp end folded back to prevent hose puncture) to losen up the material, then a big shop vac i had to suck out the debris and water. Restarted it on a rinse and spin and thank God the pump was ok, its running again! These units are now coming up on 17 years old with minimal parts replacement, no wonder that Maytag repairman is always lounging around on the commercials lol ! Good video helpful!!

Thanks for this information. I thought my Maytag might be a goner cause it wasn't draining. Turns out there was a broken up ballpoint pen and four baby socks from my tenants of two years back lodged just in front of the pump intake. Your very explicit step by step instructions and admonishments were super helpful. All's well now.
Awesome, ballpoint pens can definitely cause havoc on machine. We appreciate you sharing this Curt. Hopefully many stress free days ahead for you. Many more helpful videos to come. 😎👍
bro naimeth, you are the man! mine turned out to be a penny perfectly obstructing the outlet from the pump. once it cut off flow the pump obviously was impacted and then spin cycle was also cut off. managed to get the penny out, cleaned everything out and put it back together. everything is working all good now. thanks for the diagnosing and disassembly info. will keep an eye on the pump to see if there is any long term issues as it may have been working harder than needed for a while.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders you probably don't remember how much room you needed to turn it sideways? In 2007 I built a platform to raise the both unit at a nicer height. So I don't think I have enough room to turn is sideways and washer is on left and dryer on right side. I probably will have to disconnect the water supply and pull it all the way out. I notice our kitchen chair seats are the same height as the bottom of washer. I thought I could get the washer partially on one seat facing washer, then pull more and get 2 other chairs on either side.

Mike, i have insufficient voltage to the pump 24-54vac when the pump should be getting 110vac. what is a valid PN for the output board/control. - thank you griffin in michigan
Great video. I just replaced my pump with a new one but it still won't drain. Definitely installed correctly as was very easy, what else could it be? Not sure any of the other parts are blocked since i was able to shop vac the water right out the end of the drain hose, water seems to flow out just fine
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Let’s get this figured out. 😀 Since pump is replaced, you may have a clogged drain hose. A clogged drain hose is usually what ends up causing the pump failure...as it makes the pump take on back-flow/pressure water...which it can’t handle long. Below is a link to a video showing the removal of drain hose and cleaning it. ua-cam.com/video/Cryec0cT3RU/v-deo.html Please keep us posted, us DIY’ers need to stick together! 😎👍
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Replaced the drain pump. As soon as I took off the drain hose to the back of the machine, a guitar pick dropped out. So that would probably move into the right position to block the hose.
I have an old Maytag Neptune. What’s weird is my unit won’t drain. I tried to drain it by unhooking the end to the drainpipe and putting it in a bucket but nothing. But when I remove it from the drain pump assembly, water gushes out. I cleaned the drain tube and there is no obstruction. I think the drain pump assembly has something going on. I read somewhere that a person had a quarter stuck. Do you have a way to drain this when the tube won’t drain it?
Thanks for watching, clogged drain pump is likely and replacing it will do wonders for your machine. Is the pump first thing you check when the tub won't spin, drain & make noises? Are there other things I should check as well, if yes which order should they be checked?
T. Charles White Thanks for watching & sharing your comment. Great question. Let’s get this figured out. Are the noises you’re experiencing a grinding sound or grinding & clicking sound? If so, it’s almost always your drain pump. Once your drain pump fails, it will no longer drain nor spin nor continue the wash cycle to the end. No fun 😩 This is a great place to start as it’s a very friendly DIY project & doesn’t drain the bank account. 😎 Keep us posted & let’s get this figured out. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders It actually make a whinning noise & it drains intermittently. Think it may have debis clogging the ports. I'll definitely start with the pump, thank you for sharing your skills with us and responding to my question specifically!
T. Charles White Thanks for the update. Here’s my thought. You may have a slightly clogged drain hose. This clog may be over working your Drain Pump. Your pump is possibly working extra hard to pass water through the hose. Maytag neptune front loader. My pump works but tub won't drain all the way. I hear lots of water slosh in the background. I took the intake hose off the pump, the fat one, then took the hose off the tub, and nothing is draining. Water is sloshing in the tub. What keeps the water in the back there?
scott boelke Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. Let’s get this figured out! The most common cause to your experience is a lack of draining capabilities. Good morning ☕️ In most cases, you will get an error code on your panel that coincides with pump failure. However, once you remove panel and gain access to the pump, you can unplug the electrical connections and check the continuity with a voltmeter to ensure whether or not the pump is faulty or still good. We have an older model but it looks the same. How do i know if it is a clog or failed pump? I screwed the hose and removed from the pipe. Some water drained but i had to shake and move the hose well. It makes a loud noise when draining.... how can i figure out if it is clogged and what can i do??
Laura Leeper Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your comment & experience! Let’s figure this out together! At this point...as you mentioned, your Drain Hose should be cleared of any debris. Quick question...have you recently heard any odd noises coming from the Washing Machine during the draining portion of the cycle? Maybe the sound of clacking or ticking plastic sound...? If yes, that is clear indication of your Drain Pump & it’s inner parts beginning to fail...and sooner or later it will fail all together...leaving you with a washer tub bowl full of water. Since you know how to unhook Drain Hose & empty water out of washer bowl...I would hook everything back up & run a test cycle...if all goes well, then your unclogging hose procedure cured the problem. However if the cycle stops at the Drain portion again & does not drain...then you will need to empty washer bowl again by disconnecting the Drain Hose and then purchasing a new Drain Pump. This is very user friendly. Keep us posted! Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your UA-cam notifications that would be awesome thanks again 😎👍! Mara P.Avila Thanks for watching & sharing your experience Mara. What is the current state of the wash cycle? It it washing & fully completing cycle or is it stoping mid cycle & not draining? Mara P.Avila Thanks for the update. That’s good news! We recommend monitoring the drainage & verifying the drain pump is pumping water out the drain hose. There is always going to be a small portion of water remaining in your Washing Machine after wash cycle is complete, that’s normal. Keep us posted! 😎👍🔧🔩
Oh 😯, I didn’t think it was normal. When I wash clothes and dry it, the clothes always has a smell to it, i thought maybe it could be because of the water that’s always there. Thank you for your quick response.
Mara P.Avila The water level will always be below the bowl & never seen. The smell is most likely coming from build up. We recommend doing a thorough cleaning of the machine to get rid of smell. 😎👍🔧🔩
Hey Mike, i have commercial/front loader Maytag Neptune washer. The area got flooded and now the washer requests to continually reselect the cycle, doesnt appear to fill fully but will agitate. I changed out the water pump and now it will go to completion but doesnt spin enough to drain all the water and i dont think it fills fully. Any suggestions??? Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. We recommend performing a full system reset. Below are two links to helpful reset videos. ua-cam.com/video/p9RwpJ8dvw8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/5BeD0SHIt5Q/v-deo.html 😎👍🔧🔩
Hi Michael, I have the same model MAH6700AWW. it had a ND code, after I watch your video I removed the pump and found nothing on it, no kink on hoses and restart a wash cycle it got stuck at the end of wash cycle before it goes in the spin cycle. I then bought a new drain pump but the problem still there. I heard the clicking sounds from the control board like it is trying to do something. What else should I try? I ordered a water sensor switch and it is on the way. Thanks in advance.
Minh Pham Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. Let’s get this figured out! The ND code is triggered when the water level does not drop below the low level reset. This is usually caused by a faulty / failing pressure switch. We recommend blowing through the pressure switch hose & see if that resets it. If not, we will move toward replacing the actual Switch itself. Let’s start there! Keep us posted! Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your UA-cam notification Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩
I have this same variant of the problem. Replaced the pump but it does not spin/drain. Always there’s a significant policing of water in the drum together with the clothes. You recommend blowing into the hose?
I'm having a problem with the screws that hold the bracket on the machine ?I can't get them out they just keep turning why and what do I do. I got one removed the other two keep turning?
Thanks for watching Pamela, try adding some friendly upward pressure to screw with your fingers as you simultaneously unscrew it. If that doesn’t work, try applying some friendly sideways pressure to screw as you simultaneously unscrew it. Please keep us posted.
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. The P5 error code usually is triggered when you have low water supply to unit. You may need to clean screens inside water lines that connect directly to the washer. Video link below talks more about this. ua-cam.com/video/DwJLd7xwaUM/v-deo.html 😎👍
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thanks. I don't think I remember the code correctly, may have been PF. BTW, at 5:07, is that pump clogged?! Could removing the clog fix the drain problem?
@@yukuhana You are very welcome, it may also be a clogged drain hose. Below is a link to our video showing the removal of hose to clean it out. ua-cam.com/video/1d4ieidnTJQ/v-deo.html Let’s get this figured out. 😎👍
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I removed the hoses around the pump but no debris. So I guess next step is to buy the drain pump. What's your part number? I searched up Maytag Neptune MAH6700aww, and it came up with DC96-00774A. It seems some websites include brackets, while other only include the motor unit without the drain hose connectors. Do you have an opinion on that? Where can I get the part fast?
@@yukuhana Thanks for the reply, we came up with an OEM part # of WP34001340. That’s referencing your machine serial # you provided. If interested in purchasing this part, visit our Amazon affiliate link below. I earn from qualifying purchases. amzn.to/3HlrNDT 😎👍🔧🔩
It would have been nice to include the diagnostic steps that distinguish between a broken drain pump and a clog that could be fixed by removing the obstruction. For instance, does a clogged drain make a very different sound than a broken pump (when the washer is trying to drain the water from the drum)? If the water remaining in the drum's outer shell won't syphon out through the drain hose when the end of the hose is placed near the floor, or syphons at a low flow rate, does that imply a clog? I have two old washer-dryer stacks: (1) The Maytag MHS2000AWW makes a noise when I think it's supposed be draining, and perhaps that noise means the pump is working okay, and no water drained out when I put the end of the drain hose near the floor, so perhaps these clues suggest a clog instead of a broken pump? (2) The Frigidaire Gallery FWT445GES2 only makes a humming/buzzing sound when I think it's supposed to be draining, which reminds me of the sound a jammed garbage disposer makes, and the water syphoned out very slowly, so perhaps these clues suggest the pump is jammed by an obstruction that's also limiting the drain flow?
Thanks for watching, the Maytag E2 fault code indicates a slow-flow of water through drain hose or a total blockage. Let us know if you have any questions and hey if you’re into crypto trading, join our DIY ecosystem. toolboxtoken.com Reach out to us any time! 🧰

If you do replace the pump, you can then take apart the old pump to see if the impeller and shaft are loose or missing parts of the fins that turn to pump the water.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Actually that's the first thing I did. So I tested the voltage at the drain pump by going into "service mode" and executed a "Board Output Test" for drain pump, and it did successfully apply the 120 voltage at the drain pump!! However, going through the spin cycle program (water emptied manually), I didn't see the 120 volt at the drain pump even as the washer spun. So whatever the "trigger" is isn't working, even though the control board is capable of delivering voltage at the pump. I don't think there's anything else I can do.
@@yukuhana Thanks for the reply, since you have checked voltage, verified drain hose is clean, and replaced drain pump... The only thing it can be from here is a faulty electrical part or wire/wire connection point.

These units are now coming up on 17 years old with minimal parts replacement, no wonder that Maytag repairman is always lounging around on the commercials lol ! Good video helpful!!

Thanks for this information. I thought my Maytag might be a goner cause it wasn't draining. Turns out there was a broken up ballpoint pen and four baby socks from my tenants of two years back lodged just in front of the pump intake. bro naimeth, you are the man! mine turned out to be a penny perfectly obstructing the outlet from the pump. once it cut off flow the pump obviously was impacted and then spin cycle was also cut off. managed to get the penny out, cleaned everything out and put it back together. everything is working all good now. thanks for the diagnosing and disassembly info. will keep an eye on the pump to see if there is any long term issues as it may have been working harder than needed for a while.

Since pump is replaced, you may have a clogged drain hose. A clogged drain hose is usually what ends up causing the pump failure...as it makes the pump take on back-flow/pressure water...which it can’t handle long.

Is the pump first thing you check when the tub won't spin, drain & make noises? Are there other things I should check as well, if yes which order should they be checked?
T. Charles White
Thanks for watching & sharing your comment. Great question. Let’s get this figured out.
Are the noises you’re experiencing a grinding sound or grinding & clicking sound? If so, it’s almost always your drain pump.
Once your drain pump fails, it will no longer drain nor spin nor continue the wash cycle to the end. No fun 😩

Thanks for the update. Here’s my thought. You may have a slightly clogged drain hose. This clog may be over working your Drain Pump. Your pump is possibly working extra hard to pass water through the hose. It’s most likely just shy of failing completely. 😲

How do you know that the pump is bad n not just clogged?
Good morning ☕️
In most cases, you will get an error code on your panel that coincides with pump failure.
However, once you remove panel and gain access to the pump, you can unplug the electrical connections and check the continuity with a voltmeter to ensure whether or not the pump is faulty or still good.
Let us know if you have any additional questions. Looking forward to 2024, many more helpful videos to come! ☕️🧰

Minh Pham
Thanks for watching & sharing your experience.
How do you know for sure it's the drain pump needing replaced? Was there an error code?
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. The P5 error code usually is triggered when you have low water supply to unit.
You may need to clean screens inside water lines that connect directly to the washer.

Thanks, my pump clogged. I pull out coins & mask filter. Got it back up running & didnt have to a new pump.

How much for the pump
Thanks for watching & on average, a pump ranges between $70-150 depending on how fancy the machine.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders maytag 2000 the propeller moves forwards 1/16 only .I reset it once unplugged for 5 minutes. And all works so far ,my guess is if it does not wobble and but moves forwards 1/16 means it the pump is almost due

Mine had a coin stuck in it, bought a pump for nothing.
Thanks for watching, hey nothing wrong with a brand new pump. 😁👍
Awesome job making it a DIY project, you will continue to benefit greatly by making your projects DIY. 🧰
Bad news to report:
1) check for debris : None found, still won't drain.
2) replaced the drain pump : Still won't drain.
What's the next thing I can try? It appears to be electronic problem (e.g. control board doesn't actuate pump); if that's the case, I'd be out of luck. $130 just for repairman to come and estimate required labor + parts. Feeling defeated. I might have to buy a new washer...
Thanks for the update, that’s no fun. Have you tried performing a full system reset? Below are two links to reset procedure videos.

In these videos, we reference a Samsung unit however the concept is the same with your Maytag. Please keep us posted.

Thanks for the reply, since you have checked voltage, verified drain hose is clean, and replaced drain pump... The only thing it can be from here is a faulty electrical part or wire/wire connection point.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Thus it's out of my hand. I've just placed an order for a new washer. Unfortunate ending :(

Hopefully many stress free days ahead for you with that new washer. 😎👍
Omg too much detail..
Thanks for watching & we appreciate your thoughts. Enjoy your day.

What if you swap out the pump and it still won't drain?
Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community.
Great question, it’s very likely that the hose is clogged. Since it’s a brand new pump, it’s trying to drain however will immediately turn off when it detects a back flow…which is sensed when there’s a clog in hose.

Thank you for the response. I pulled the hose and rinsed it. It wasn't really that dirty. Definitely not clogged

Thanks for the update, that’s better than a clogged hose. A clean and clear hose is a great thing!
