It's hard to believe that it has been over 2 months since I have done a hive removal, but it has. Thankfully, with the help of Good Time Charlie and Wreck it Ralph, my rustiness is hardly noticeable.
Todays adventure finds us in Mandeville removing bees that had once again moved into a shed. Last year, a swarm moved into this shed and the homeowner had them removed, but because the area had not been sealed properly, another swarm moved in this year in the exact same spot.
With the aid of the bee vac, and the skills of Ralph and Charlie, we made short work of the removal taking us just about two hours to complete. After that, we went to the abbey to frame up the comb and release the bees. Oh, did I mention we found and caged the queen?
All the comb, including the honey comb, was framed up and filled a 10 frame hive. Unfortunately, there was not enough honey stores in the hive, and for these bees to make it through the winter, and they will have to be fed. No problem.
I am making good progress on the house, and hopefully by the second week in November, there will be sheetrock on the walls. I'm still hoping to be moved in by Christmas.

Ralph did great but the 3 amigos all make great co-hosts. Jeff does swarm capture and bee culture, Charlie could do more construction teaching and teach how to film bees and Ralph could do demo teaching as well as teaching about framing and honey techniques. Or any other combination, lol. Dirt Rooster is talking more about construction and safety and that has enhanced his videos. The ambiance of each channel is very different and I can't get enough!

Wow!!! That was one of the smoothest queen catches ever. She LITERALY walked right into your hand. Jesus was with you that day and the queen too (she could have been hurt or worse if you were not that perceptive). Also - my heart dropped when I saw the comb drop and thought to myself that it looked kind of brittle which you did confirm shortly thereafter. Keep on wrangling... 😉😃
Shock swarm is a great method for calming the bee's when you are rehoming them. I spray sugar solution on them if their nasty buggers. Irish bees are cranky when their disturbed and temperatures are below 10c... Nicely done Men. Best of luck for the season...

IDK about there? but here, Winter has hit. My area use to be a lot of bees, the oil fields has ran them off! Only bees around here NOW, are MINE! That why my swarm count been down so low the last 2 years! 3 swarm last year. 1 stayed from a bee keeper that lost all of his Hawaiian honey bees to me 🤣 I dearly love them! I would never paid that much for any honey bees. HOWARD i told you they would come to me, and they did THANKS

Hey Linda! Though I poke fun at Charlie about naps, I sneak them at every opportunity I can get. I have often said that it should be made a law that all senior citizens get time to nap every day......with pay. I was concerned with her falling as well, but because there was insulation right there, she could have only gone down an inch or two. Still, I was a bit nervous about it. As soon as I get some time, I'll give you a call. God's peace.

Have you ever had the bees chew through the rubber bands before they attach the comb to the frame? It seems that there is such a large gap in those shallow comb sections that bridging the gap would take a long time and you would end up with a big mess of unframed comb.
The bees know when to cut the rubber bands even if the comb does not fit the entire space. They really know their stuff. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

Y'all talked about how to orient the comb in the frames. I was wondering if the arrangement of the frames was important, too?
As the comb is cut to fit the frames, it is no longer in the same arrangement as it was in the original hive. However, I do place all the brood comb in the center of the box with the honey and pollen frames on either side of it. This configuration is very similar to the way bees do it in the wild.
